I am Thai and been living in Australia for 6-7years and I am over it. Everything cost penny and unaffordable. I am moving back in November and will start my own English teaching business. With electricity I recommend to set up solar panel at home and you can save a lot. We used to have electricity monthly bill 9000-10000THB but after setting up solar panel now we are paying 3000-4000THB. Thank you for sharing about living in Thailand. We always welcome people and grateful to make you guys feel like home. 😊
As an American that won't be able to afford to retire in my country, the thought of moving to Thailand excites me. I can live with ease on my social security. :-).
We retired to Thailand from the US in February. We wake up every morning and drink coffee, looking at the sea, and are grateful for the life we have. We would never be able to afford being so close to the beach in the states. The island we live on is more expensive than Hua Hin. Especially our electric and food bill, but we purchased a scooter and we purchased a car so those expenses are upfront and no longer added to the monthly bill. We have no regrets.
Been living in Thailand/Viet Nam for years and years now. Never have gone over 1000/mo. I don’t drink or go to bars, live a healthy type lifestyle and travel around a lot. Trying to get to Thailand by 2025. I’m trying to find a place that I could stay for 3-4 months, but also travel and see the islands and Vietnam while I’m there.
It’s cheaper than I thought of. My expenses in Phnom Penh were $1000-1200/ month with luxury accommodation and I agree it costs more to cook than eating out.
I lived in Vietnam for 2 years and 6 months in Thailand. Both are affordable. If you are originally from an English-speaking country, you can pick up a part time teaching gig 17h a week and expect to get paid anywhere from 1200 up to 2000 USD which would easily cover all your expenses for a wonderfully comfortable living standards and would even let you save up just by itself. But you already have an income stream that's just cherry on top. Also, in major cities like Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City there is a wonderful expat community you can link up with, travel together or be neighbors, have common hobbies like dancing, travels, hiking, bike trails etc. With them it feels like home away from home. You don't feel alone or alienated, locals are extremely kind and welcoming towards expats, other expats are the same as they know how it feels when you first move over there. Highly recommended for anyone who is considering, you can at least give it a go for 6 months or so and see if you like it for yourself. Also, if you think the USA is the land of the free, wait until you live in a Southeast Asian country as a western expat. They really chose to avoid getting involved in a negative manner. A lot of westerners, you will see, are abusing the sht out of that nature of the local authorities with anything goes mentality imitating hangover movies.
Having watched more than a few of this type of program content,your costs appear appropriate to the standard of your choice. Condo's are usually the go to accommodation mostly 2 bedroom,balcony and beach view. Therin lies the difference in costs. Most expats enjoy the comforts and tit bits we all find hard to give up. Your electricity(aircon etc.) costs are surprising and obviously your "must have". And yes affordable for us,regardless of condo/house preferences. We are of a different age group and preference,love visiting,love your life choices and we often weigh up our own. Thankyou for your open book approach.
Great living expenses update mate. Currently assessing an early retirement and in Phuket now enjoying Thai life. Hua Him sounds far more affordable than here though that’s for sure!

Woops, I live in TH for like 12 years. Rent House NEW 3 room and kitchen, 1 RAI, : 5000 Bath / Months. ELECTRIC w 2 air-conditioned 4000 Bath/ Months included TV Desktop Computer 2 Screens, 3BB internet 750 B / Month. 1GB / 500 mb, Honda CB 150 / 1000 Bath / Month... etc. + Have a Barefoot Tournament Tow Boat, 200 hp Mercury, Stand Up JetSki, so if smart you can live pretty good... Many not know how to do...
If you plan to live in that house more than 5 years, You may consider solar cell systems. It can reduce your electricity bill down to less than 500 baht per month.There are plenty of reliable company offer to implement the solar cell system in Thailand. The cost is about 80,000 -100,000 baht

I lived and worked in Thailand at an International School. I LOVED Thailand very very much. I lived in Nichada Thani for five years...The school was very political so I didn't enjoy it BUT the conditions of living was excellent! I loved the weekly massages at home! My Vet made house calls, so no traumatized kitties! My condominium was paid for by the school. It had a beautiful pool...I had a wonderful caring house keeper who was Thai...So, she paid the water, wifi, and electricity bills (I of course left her the Thai Baht) I could travel whenever I wished on school holiday knowing the two kitties will be well taken care of while I'm gone...WHY did I come back to the States after I retired at 65? I've regretted it every day since...So, now age stops me from returning...I would have to go through the moving process...getting rid of most everything...I would be fine with all of that and head back to Thailand with just two suitcases of favorite clothes, one husband and four felines, but my age makes it all harder...I am robust and healthy to this day, but in Thailand I understand health insurance is basically prohibited after age 80...sigh...I miss the lifestyle and beautiful people in Thailand so much!!!

Just came across your channel guys. Very realistic budget, I’m a lot cheaper as a single bloke, I have a great condo with pool and gym, I get insurance through my Thai bank, I bought a scooter rather than rent one, which equates to a fraction of what you guys are paying, I eat out every day, I do buy basic groceries for a sandwich and coffee in the condo etc. I live here very comfortably on 60-70k budget a month, TBH I don’t spend it all, total utilities and groceries and laundry, fuel circa 20k a month, the rest for travelling and entertainment, wine and steak dinners now and again, all the best for the new arrival,I will say hello if I see you guys walking about HH, all the best for the new arrival…Chok Dee guys 🤟🏻

I'm in Thailand right now for the past 8 months and prices are same as everywhere else except rent prices and transportation is exceptional but I'm in Pattaya right now. I came from Baja Mexico in La Paz for 1.5 yrs and I pay the same every month as I did there, rent is more in La Paz but no Immigration fees or hassle. NONE! Works out to be the same price but way more advantages in Baja, Close to the USA, can bring your car, no immigration but you will need a passport to get back, American products galore like Walmart, Costco, Sam's, Amazon delivery and absolutely beautiful beaches, culture, people and all around wonderful. Just saying. I love Thailand too. Cons in Mexico is no Maryjane, guns, barking dogs, and of course the ladies who we all know are the bomb on Thailand.

Try to turn on your air conditioning during the "Off peak" time. Which is after 10.00 PM - 9 AM. Temperature set at 25C and above. That will save your electricity bill krub. 😃
Great job explaining your expenses and what you spend on… I actually think this is really honest and helpful… I have been looking at Thailand and Malaysia, and Panama for about a year now, I worry about the language barrier in all of those places, but I feel like I really don’t want to try to penny pinch to just survive in the USA… after working all my life, I just want to retire and volunteer and maybe work for travel money… You two are a lovely couple and I am very happy your about to be parents… I will definitely be watching your journey together… Blessings to you both and your bundle of joy…

Can you get along with the local people? In case you want to live in Thailand? Or don't care, can we live together? You have to find additional income. Give more than just expenses. I am giving you strength. Hua Hin people are the same.
My Thai wife and I built our 3 story home in Thailand 5 years ago. it was obviously way cheaper than building in Australia. 😂 our life style allows us to live between both countries.
Great video. A pool and air con in that climate is a necessity. I’m single in Australia with no mortgage or rent and m y final monthly expenses are double yours 🤦♀️. Body Corp, rates, gas, electricity, car etc. Hua Hin is on my mind but I am not a fan of heat!!
Yes I agree with prices. Single person is much less. Condos provide excercise room and pools so no need for that expense either. 2500$ Canadian you should do well. love Hua HIn!

If you haven’t been there, may I suggest Baan Kuhn Por ( the house if my fathers) just west of the rail tracks on Soi 88. Very reasonable good with live free entertainment every night. Subsidized by 13:0613:06 Chang beer and I 13:06 great bargain for me as I like to dance and drink club soda with lime
We pay less the 3000 baht with AC on 24×7 Never used VPN and have 3 scooters and a truck we own. We also have a little farm with 10 cows and geese and ducks. We pay around $1000 USD a month

As mine is similar in cost but it doesn’t cover dental or smaller type issues. Only the serious stuff. Also with the baby on the way, have you looked into education? As i got custody of my Australian daughter at the age of 3&1/2 and she lived with me over here for 15 yrs what are you going to do school wise? As the schools of an Australian level are $20k-$30k pa. They Thai or semi international schools won’t cut it incase you move back in the future

lloyd you forgot one expense...weekly massages :) that is around the price i expected for 2 soon to be 3 humans. you guys do have a nice house and life there. been trying to get the other half to speed a year or more there but no luck so far. seems like a lot of people are moving to Hau hin hopefully it does not turn in to Phuket. anyway there is my thoughts to help your algorithm.
LLyod you are doing extremely well in Thailand compared to the rent what we pay here in Brisbane, AU for a month. Our rent costs more than your total monthly expenses for a 60 plus year old cottage with no luxuries. Not to mention night life in Brisbane is very very boring compare to many other similar cities in Asia or Europe and limited shopping hours, products, poor transport etc.
1) health insurance is not a luxury...It is a necessity.... like your motorcycle helmet. You can choose not to wear it but when bad stuff occurs. It hits you hard. 2) I estimate your 60k THB per month now will go up to 100k and later on around 250k per month because your child needs foods, clothes and education
Let’s be honest, Thailand can be super affordable but when I went, it definitely cost me about the same. (Not complaining) I stayed at really nice places and it was such a great time! There are options for all budgets!

Regarding the electricity bill, the government has it at around 4.3 baht per kwh, but every landlord (where i live at least) charges 8-9 baht per kwh, which is a piss take, they are literally stealing from us. The Thai baht is also very strong so now its quite expensive for us foreigners, in fact i went to central in Pattaya the other day and some items from the west were 10 times the price, even tomatoes where 4-6 times the price. I bought some cream cheese and it cost 450 baht which is £10.34, in the UK its only 85 pence (£0.85) ffs wtf haha. Also we used to get 68 baht per £1. now its around 42-43 per £1. it's Dreadful. The exchange rate has killed everything really. I can remember the hotel prices back in 2004 when i lived here then and they haven't really gone up too much, its just the poor exchange rate that has screwed us all lol
I have a house in the Philippines, monthly rent is 6500 pesos, including the rats. Electricity per mont is around 4000 pesos per month when using the aircon. I also rent a one room apartment in Pattaya, Thailand, for 2500 baht per month. Electricity bill has been like 350 baht per month. Now I am in Norway, and live in an old barn (chicken house and piggery) and pay 0,- kroner. The mice are included, and no need for Airconditioner here. No toilet, no shower, but in this climate you do not need to change your T-shirts four times a day, as in South East Asia. I have lived for almost 10 years in the Philippines, and 4-5 years in Thailand. Thailand is much cheaper than the Philippines, but finding a good loving woman there is quite difficult, so better go the extra mile and go to the Philippines if you are looking for wife material.

Lloyd, your accomodations are HUGE! I live in a bed-sitter, Mate. And, I do not have a pool, or SERVANTS to tend to me and my needs, as well. I am almost 70 years of age. I must do everything for myself.
Thank you. Nice video and information. When the video started I thought the monthly budget would be higher than 60,000 baht. My wife and I are considering retiring in Thailand. Is a villa like yours in hua Hin easy to find for around $700-800 per month?
That is very low, The minimum we have paid for a dinner in Hua Hin is 750 (5 dishes some rice and noodles and a couple of drinks each). I would spend about 300 each day at 711 grabbing a coffee, water, juice odd snack. The Gym membership is an excellent price. It will be a while before we move back over, but I am budgeting for 120,000 per month excluding accommodation. Have a family farm up North where we can stay, Son will be buying a holiday house most likely around Hua Hin which he will most likely only use a couple of weeks a year.
As you get older the biggest expense is gonna be your health insurance , especially as the older you get the more long term illness’s pile up and make it unaffordable , as compared to the free at point of delivery nhs we have in the uk . Unfortunately even though we own our own villa we could never afford to live there with my pre existing probs

You should buy the scooter of your own if you live long term cuz 2 years of your rent can almost brought it out right😅 and consider brought an suv car for your family too. The 2nd hand car market in Thailand are now facing over supply right now so you can find a new and cheap car like never before so just check it out
Electricity is high, although similar to Aussie. AC and a pool eat electricity but the climate necessitates such things. Renting vs buying a scooter, although baby will complicate matters, so I see your logic? Love the early settler housemaid look, just missing the home baked scones😂😂😂
That is actually quite expensive to be honest, more so than i thought. Obviously better than what you would get for the price in Australia but you would still need to be making a decent amount of coin consistently to pay that.
As a comparison l live in Cha Am on Aussie pension of 40,000thb per month for 2 people. Rent a 3BR house ( old style) fully furnished for 9000thb per month(1klm from beach) Electricity 1700thb per month, bought a 2nd hand scooter for 18,000thb, spend 10,000thb per month at Makro or Lotus on groceries for 2, enjoy a beer about 3600thb per month, WIFI and water 1000thb per month. Dont save anything per month but comfortable. I think u pay overs for Electric and Accommodation but if u have got it then spend it.
what about visa costs? about a $100/month for the visa run every so often? Also, from what i've heard apartment deposits are rarely returned in Thailand so that has to be figured in as well as a cost.

You two are pretty well-off. 35K baht a month for rent sounds crazy to me, but that's because I will be working as a teacher on a very low salary (35-40K baht).
Your rental costs in Hua Hin are high. You can get decent to good places in BKK for that - given maybe not in desired location as Thing Lor but affordable houses are plenty. What gave me pause, Hua Hin is deserted in terms of real estate. So many empty homes that go for cheap... but then, maybe you looked for a specific setup with furniture and such. It made the impression you are not planning to stay longer as you even rent a scooter, which is the first I would have bought. I get your choice for help with housekeeping, not cheap but likely worth it and fairly limited. Your other costs, particular gym and activities sound cheap from a Bangkok point of view. Food as well. And you already realized, going to overpriced food stores sucks you dry. Maybe consider Makro, the one in Hua Hin is quite decent, not far and it makes a difference - the quality might surprise you. You skipped internet (I was curious about that how it compares to lightning fast speeds for cheap in BKK) and communication, also the car that was shown you didn't mention in your listing.

Dig the video sir, but seems you did not include, internet, mobile phones, entertainment, water, cable t.v. i.e. (HBO, Netflix, etc), miscellaneous (clothing, cleaning products, etc) or visa cost? Nothing bad intended, but it seems you left out $300-$500 worth of expenses. Love the channel.
Buy a used bike for 30-40k. You would have had it paid for already. A new one is probably only 90,000ish. You can always sell it when you leave and get some of that money back.

Thai minimum wage is 300฿ per day 9000 per month. So Thai people can live under 10000baht but can't compare to expats.
U should definitely do, u can do much more with your money here in thailand. The living standard is higher. Enjoy life and relax

Condo's are usually the go to accommodation mostly 2 bedroom,balcony and beach view. Therin lies the difference in costs. Most expats enjoy the comforts and tit bits we all find hard to give up. Your electricity(aircon etc.) costs are surprising and obviously your "must have". And yes affordable for us,regardless of condo/house preferences. We are of a different age group and preference,love visiting,love your life choices and we often weigh up our own. Thankyou for your open book approach.

I lived and worked in Thailand at an International School. I LOVED Thailand very very much. I lived in Nichada Thani for five years...The school was very political so I didn't enjoy it BUT the conditions of living was excellent! I loved the weekly massages at home! My Vet made house calls, so no traumatized kitties! My condominium was paid for by the school. It had a beautiful pool...I had a wonderful caring house keeper who was Thai...So, she paid the water, wifi, and electricity bills (I of course left her the Thai Baht) I could travel whenever I wished on school holiday knowing the two kitties will be well taken care of while I'm gone...WHY did I come back to the States after I retired at 65? I've regretted it every day since...So, now age stops me from returning...I would have to go through the moving process...getting rid of most everything...I would be fine with all of that and head back to Thailand with just two suitcases of favorite clothes, one husband and four felines, but my age makes it all harder...I am robust and healthy to this day, but in Thailand I understand health insurance is basically prohibited after age 80...sigh...I miss the lifestyle and beautiful people in Thailand so much!!!

Very realistic budget, I’m a lot cheaper as a single bloke, I have a great condo with pool and gym, I get insurance through my Thai bank, I bought a scooter rather than rent one, which equates to a fraction of what you guys are paying, I eat out every day, I do buy basic groceries for a sandwich and coffee in the condo etc.
I live here very comfortably on 60-70k budget a month, TBH I don’t spend it all, total utilities and groceries and laundry, fuel circa 20k a month, the rest for travelling and entertainment, wine and steak dinners now and again, all the best for the new arrival,I will say hello if I see you guys walking about HH, all the best for the new arrival…Chok Dee guys 🤟🏻

I'm in Thailand right now for the past 8 months and prices are same as everywhere else except rent prices and transportation is exceptional but I'm in Pattaya right now. I came from Baja Mexico in La Paz for 1.5 yrs and I pay the same every month as I did there, rent is more in La Paz but no Immigration fees or hassle. NONE! Works out to be the same price but way more advantages in Baja, Close to the USA, can bring your car, no immigration but you will need a passport to get back, American products galore like Walmart, Costco, Sam's, Amazon delivery and absolutely beautiful beaches, culture, people and all around wonderful. Just saying. I love Thailand too. Cons in Mexico is no Maryjane, guns, barking dogs, and of course the ladies who we all know are the bomb on Thailand.

Try to turn on your air conditioning during the "Off peak" time. Which is after 10.00 PM - 9 AM. Temperature set at 25C and above. That will save your electricity bill krub. 😃

We pay less the 3000 baht with AC on 24×7 Never used VPN and have 3 scooters and a truck we own. We also have a little farm with 10 cows and geese and ducks. We pay around $1000 USD a month

Great content, as an Aussie that’s lived here in Pattaya, Thailand for 19 yrs (now 40yrs old.) what insurance company are you using? As mine is similar in cost but it doesn’t cover dental or smaller type issues. Only the serious stuff. Also with the baby on the way, have you looked into education? As i got custody of my Australian daughter at the age of 3&1/2 and she lived with me over here for 15 yrs what are you going to do school wise? As the schools of an Australian level are $20k-$30k pa. They Thai or semi international schools won’t cut it incase you move back in the future

LLyod you are doing extremely well in Thailand compared to the rent what we pay here in Brisbane, AU for a month. Our rent costs more than your total monthly expenses for a 60 plus year old cottage with no luxuries. Not to mention night life in Brisbane is very very boring compare to many other similar cities in Asia or Europe and limited shopping hours, products, poor transport etc.
1) health insurance is not a luxury...It is a necessity.... like your motorcycle helmet. You can choose not to wear it but when bad stuff occurs. It hits you hard.
2) I estimate your 60k THB per month now will go up to 100k and later on around 250k per month because your child needs foods, clothes and education

Let’s be honest, Thailand can be super affordable but when I went, it definitely cost me about the same. (Not complaining) I stayed at really nice places and it was such a great time! There are options for all budgets!

Regarding the electricity bill, the government has it at around 4.3 baht per kwh, but every landlord (where i live at least) charges 8-9 baht per kwh, which is a piss take, they are literally stealing from us. The Thai baht is also very strong so now its quite expensive for us foreigners, in fact i went to central in Pattaya the other day and some items from the west were 10 times the price, even tomatoes where 4-6 times the price. I bought some cream cheese and it cost 450 baht which is £10.34, in the UK its only 85 pence (£0.85) ffs wtf haha. Also we used to get 68 baht per £1. now its around 42-43 per £1. it's Dreadful. The exchange rate has killed everything really. I can remember the hotel prices back in 2004 when i lived here then and they haven't really gone up too much, its just the poor exchange rate that has screwed us all lol
I have a house in the Philippines, monthly rent is 6500 pesos, including the rats. Electricity per mont is around 4000 pesos per month when using the aircon.
I also rent a one room apartment in Pattaya, Thailand, for 2500 baht per month. Electricity bill has been like 350 baht per month.
Now I am in Norway, and live in an old barn (chicken house and piggery) and pay 0,- kroner. The mice are included, and no need for Airconditioner here. No toilet, no shower, but in this climate you do not need to change your T-shirts four times a day, as in South East Asia.
I have lived for almost 10 years in the Philippines, and 4-5 years in Thailand. Thailand is much cheaper than the Philippines, but finding a good loving woman there is quite difficult, so better go the extra mile and go to the Philippines if you are looking for wife material.

That is very low, The minimum we have paid for a dinner in Hua Hin is 750 (5 dishes some rice and noodles and a couple of drinks each).
I would spend about 300 each day at 711 grabbing a coffee, water, juice odd snack.
The Gym membership is an excellent price.
It will be a while before we move back over, but I am budgeting for 120,000 per month excluding accommodation. Have a family farm up North where we can stay, Son will be buying a holiday house most likely around Hua Hin which he will most likely only use a couple of weeks a year.

As you get older the biggest expense is gonna be your health insurance , especially as the older you get the more long term illness’s pile up and make it unaffordable , as compared to the free at point of delivery nhs we have in the uk . Unfortunately even though we own our own villa we could never afford to live there with my pre existing probs

You should buy the scooter of your own if you live long term cuz 2 years of your rent can almost brought it out right😅 and consider brought an suv car for your family too. The 2nd hand car market in Thailand are now facing over supply right now so you can find a new and cheap car like never before so just check it out

Electricity is high, although similar to Aussie. AC and a pool eat electricity but the climate necessitates such things. Renting vs buying a scooter, although baby will complicate matters, so I see your logic? Love the early settler housemaid look, just missing the home baked scones😂😂😂

That is actually quite expensive to be honest, more so than i thought. Obviously better than what you would get for the price in Australia but you would still need to be making a decent amount of coin consistently to pay that.
As a comparison l live in Cha Am on Aussie pension of 40,000thb per month for 2 people. Rent a 3BR house ( old style) fully furnished for 9000thb per month(1klm from beach) Electricity 1700thb per month, bought a 2nd hand scooter for 18,000thb, spend 10,000thb per month at Makro or Lotus on groceries for 2, enjoy a beer about 3600thb per month, WIFI and water 1000thb per month. Dont save anything per month but comfortable. I think u pay overs for Electric and Accommodation but if u have got it then spend it.
what about visa costs? about a $100/month for the visa run every so often? Also, from what i've heard apartment deposits are rarely returned in Thailand so that has to be figured in as well as a cost.

You two are pretty well-off. 35K baht a month for rent sounds crazy to me, but that's because I will be working as a teacher on a very low salary (35-40K baht).
Your rental costs in Hua Hin are high. You can get decent to good places in BKK for that - given maybe not in desired location as Thing Lor but affordable houses are plenty. What gave me pause, Hua Hin is deserted in terms of real estate. So many empty homes that go for cheap... but then, maybe you looked for a specific setup with furniture and such. It made the impression you are not planning to stay longer as you even rent a scooter, which is the first I would have bought. I get your choice for help with housekeeping, not cheap but likely worth it and fairly limited. Your other costs, particular gym and activities sound cheap from a Bangkok point of view. Food as well. And you already realized, going to overpriced food stores sucks you dry. Maybe consider Makro, the one in Hua Hin is quite decent, not far and it makes a difference - the quality might surprise you. You skipped internet (I was curious about that how it compares to lightning fast speeds for cheap in BKK) and communication, also the car that was shown you didn't mention in your listing.

May be the owner charges more Baht/unit electricity then the real cost (from provider) is?

Buy a used bike for 30-40k. You would have had it paid for already. A new one is probably only 90,000ish. You can always sell it when you leave and get some of that money back.
