You are a doc and have command in human anatomy but to be fair to trainers, the method of trial and error sampled across millions with legitimate gains in muscle mass can't be ignored. Yes, trainers don't understand science behind the scene but they do know the path. I learnt the hard way after I dropped science micromanaging calories and blindly following gym ustaad in frustration.

I am 18yr old and my bodyweight is 78kg and my height is 5'7"... I have fair amount of muscles too but I'm around 20%-25% bodyfat....
So technically, my lean body mass (excluding fat weight from body weight) would be around 60kg-65kg.
So using this formula of 1.6g/kgBW/day protein intake, should I use my lean body mass (62.5kg) or my overall body mass (78kg) to calculate my protein requirement?
