I don't know if anybody said it yet, but you might need to change the water pump as well as the distributor judging by the overheating while stopped and the misfire. The only issue with the 5.7 LS1 is that the water pump is right above the distributor, and they're notorious for leaking around the gaskets when they fail and the distributor gets wet and causes misfires. So definitely take a look into it.

But I wouldn't have been comfortable spending $5000.00 knowing there's a limited range to make money on it . It's reality $3500.00 wasn't going to happen at that garage. I just sold a van that sat here for about two years and mice had been all through it, but the guy did drive it away. Back in 1973 I saw an ad for a 1967 Corvette roadster in the Jacksonville Times-Union newspaper, the asking price ? $ 2,800, yes, TWO THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS. I went to see it at the CHEVROLET dealership offering it for sale on the afternoon of Thanksgiving (I figured that there would be no one around and that I could look at it without having a salesman hovering over me) and when I first saw it I couldn't believe my luck...it was that light yellow color that Chevy used in the 60s that I loved. Well, it turned out there was a salesman on duty, and he quickly found me and set to work trying to get a commission on that car or any car he could interest me in. We took the car out for a test drive, but being unfamiliar with the area around the dealership we didn't really " open it up ". When we got back I made a show of still being interested even though I was underwater on my not yet 2 year old Vega. When the salesman lifted the hood I finally saw what made this Corvette a screaming bargain. It had been involved in an accident and the repairs to the front end were pretty superficial. By that I mean that while it looked good from the outside, most of the inner front fender/wheel well was missing. A section of the inner fender about 2 FEET by 2 feet was missing. To finish up this story: the salesman knew that this revelation had pretty much ruined the deal, but to try and salvage it he LOWERED the price to $2,500. Yeah, a 7 year old Corvette for TWENTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. He followed that with a further reduction to TWENTY FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS.

JR continues to be much more interesting with his shop build, car overviews, troubleshooting and fixes of an assortment of cars, and various content (Fire truck). Not every car is a POS to JR. He can appreciate most types and brands, yet share cautionary points as needed.
@@nrich5127 I will give you an example. JR did a video recently about the bad auto cruise on the '21 Elantra. JR didn't trash Hyundai or the car even...he just warned that the auto cruise feature was not good. If it was Scotty, he would have scorched Hyundai since the beginning of time, then he would have laid into his viewers about the stupidity of buying their products. JR has continually praised Hyundai/KIA for their cars and ease of working on them..but isolated his warning about the auto cruise in one of their cars. That's why I respect JR. I mean, we can't all buy '94 Celicas and become mechanics to service every aspect of their maintenace requirements on the nose 'til the end of time. Scotty often says, for $1,000..2,000 more you could have bought a Toyota such and such vs. whatever. Oh? Not everyone has that up front money laying around or wants to finance even more money on frankly, a bad investment (New car). Sure, in the long run, the Toyota may be cheaper, but not everyone wants to roll around in 20-30 year old Toyota products to get paid back in dividends.
Woo! That list of broken stuff! New harness should fix a lot of the codes, but there's still a ton wrong with that one - latches, struts, exhaust, paint/finish, and that's just what you've found so far. I wouldn't have bought it for $5000, but I'm also not a mechanic. For you, I think it'll give a lot of great content and will turn out to be a nice vehicle. You've got more vehicle projects at this point than I can keep up with, not including the warehouse projects you've got going.
The HUD is probably still working, one of the supports for the projection mirror probably just broke and the mirror dropped. If you peer through the front of the windshield directly down into the HUD box you can see if the display lights up. Fixing the broken support is actually pretty easy but you do have to disassemble most of the dash to get to it.
AT LAST! JR shows us the Corvette sitting back in the shop for the last few videos. And he doesn’t even have to LS swap this one❗️ This will be a fun project👍
It’s awesome to see this come up.The very first manual car I ever drove was a 2000 corvette convertible in the exact spec as this one...makes me really think that this is the same car I learned on. I want one just for nostalgia sake. My 1994 Miata will do for now though lol
Tear it completely apart (to make awesome videos with! just imaging a whole in-depth series of this rebuild with it's story) and replace each broken part. Keep it for 10 years and sell it for 150k when it becomes a 30-year-old car. We want to see you make this your baby. The same way Ronald Finger's re-build is going. You'll blow us a creator that way. No more half-loved cars that you only get to sell, make this one extra special. When i say "tear it apart" I mean it. Go down to the bones. I'd support the hell out of that! Way to go JR!
If the HUD doesn't come back after fixing the wiring, check for a broken spring post- on the mirror I believe. Lost the HUD on my '04 GTP and that's all it was. Happened years ago, but I think all I did was thread a screw into what was left of the post and that held the spring just fine.
I don't know if this is against WatchJRGo company policy, but I would LOVE to see this thing cleaned up BEFORE you spend 6 months working on it. Good luck with this one! Looking forward to the vids!
Looking forward to this rescue. I love rescues. I've sort of wanted a Corvette since the C4 days when I was in high school. Sometimes get hung up on the "plastic, bubba car" stigma. My wife and I finally got to tour the plant in Bowling Green during the C5 era. I did consider getting one of these instead of a Miata last year when I was getting back into the car hobby but all I could find in budget were basket cases like this or worse and I'm so cheap I wouldn't have paid a penny over $3k for that one. Just hard to beat paying $2k for an intact, non-wrecked but non-running NA Miata and getting it on the road for the cost of a battery, tires and fuel pump. Still hope to have a C5 someday. I have a soft spot for them because it's the point where the Corvette left the fat Elvis era behind for good.
I think the issues are mainly electrical due to rat problem. First thing to do will be changing of the wire harness and then looking for that misfire. Well it's just my opinion, JR looks confident to sort this out.
I’m in the same boat as you, bought a 99 frc and it sat for 2 years. Lots of chewed wires and a hacked up wire harness both on engine side and bcm side. Whole interior is out now.
A convertible with big balls is the way to go. Best of everything for a sports car lover. Parts should never be a problem with the vette. Give it hell!

@@HowardDaduk , spot on. I undub’d Scotty, wasn’t looking to listen to that every time.
Did you vacate the Corvette's former "tenants" before you brought it into your shop?
Can't wait for more videos, love all the lights
Your channel blew up. I remember under 100 k subs.but good deal on vette
As South Main Auto says....the money light is on 😉
I love that dude.... great mechanic
Eric O!
He also told us "A GM will run like crap longer than most cars will run". This car seems to confirm that.
Yeah the check wallet light is on ..
JR, weeeeeelll . Lots of work ahead of you on this one . Because you do
All the work you will get it back .
Looking forward to the Interior detail !
Stoked for the C5. Corvette content is gold.
Everything you touch turns to gold. I love the content
AT LAST! JR shows us the Corvette sitting back in the shop for the last few videos. And he doesn’t even have to LS swap this one❗️ This will be a fun project👍
There are two Corvettes, the other one is pretty unique.
Already has LS engine, makes plenty of power, and he drove it back to his warehouse. No swap needed.

Great buy! it is not nearly as bad as it looks. It is a diamond in the rough.
"It may, or may not be worse, or better than I thought".
Keep all the Cool GM content coming I'm glued to my phone, won't miss a video.....GM= GIMMIE MORE🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Scotty Kilmer diddles himself in a high mileage Celica with ice cold air while looking at a picture of the chairman of Toyota.
The mere phrase "toyotas are reliable" said from across the parking lot takes him from six to midnight
Who?
“Toyota Toyota Toyota... Honda! Toyota”

@@beefchillingham6790 Don't forget LEXUS!!!
It’s awesome to see this come up.The very first manual car I ever drove was a 2000 corvette convertible in the exact spec as this one...makes me really think that this is the same car I learned on. I want one just for nostalgia sake. My 1994 Miata will do for now though lol
Why do people always forget that Hoovie is the heiress to the Hoover Vacuum company?
Because he never mentions it
His family also has minority ownership in Hilton Hotels
Tear it completely apart (to make awesome videos with! just imaging a whole in-depth series of this rebuild with it's story) and replace each broken part. Keep it for 10 years and sell it for 150k when it becomes a 30-year-old car. We want to see you make this your baby. The same way Ronald Finger's re-build is going. You'll blow us a creator that way. No more half-loved cars that you only get to sell, make this one extra special.
When i say "tear it apart" I mean it. Go down to the bones. I'd support the hell out of that! Way to go JR!
This is exactly why I personally don’t buy cars from shops or dealerships because they just like to make things seem OK but nope in reality
If the HUD doesn't come back after fixing the wiring, check for a broken spring post- on the mirror I believe. Lost the HUD on my '04 GTP and that's all it was. Happened years ago, but I think all I did was thread a screw into what was left of the post and that held the spring just fine.
I'd pull the engine and turn the body into an adult sized bed. 😁
I don't know if this is against WatchJRGo company policy, but I would LOVE to see this thing cleaned up BEFORE you spend 6 months working on it. Good luck with this one! Looking forward to the vids!
Yay more American cars! So refreshing! Can't wait to see this girl shine!
Can't wait to see all the progress in your next videos...enjoy
I was anxious for you to get back to the Aztek, but this is good. :-)
Yes, this project is just what I’m looking to follow.
I wouldn’t have touched that car with a 50’ pole.
Just the paint makes it a problem.
AMEN , IM WITH YA BROTHER ! ! !
I've seen this so many times before. You're going to overspend 😂
It's paid for with YT views.
I think the issues are mainly electrical due to rat problem.
First thing to do will be changing of the wire harness and then looking for that misfire. Well it's just my opinion, JR looks confident to sort this out.
No way I would have bought this, but I'm looking forward to seeing it fixed up
And buying it for a buck!
I’m in the same boat as you, bought a 99 frc and it sat for 2 years. Lots of chewed wires and a hacked up wire harness both on engine side and bcm side. Whole interior is out now.
Hoovie’s LS?
He sold that car as far as I know 🍻
@@WatchJRGo he brought the porch back
No that car Hoovie refers to is Tavarshs New ZO6 C6
A convertible with big balls is the way to go. Best of everything for a sports car lover. Parts should never be a problem with the vette. Give it hell!
Honestly I think it might have more miles because of the speedometer not working
ECU would still be correct (maybe).
Had to be a gift car.
How does anybody neglect a car like this!
I definitely would have bought it!
You will make her new!
Looking forward to it.
I was waiting for the rats to run out....My guess is they are waiting for the shop lights to go out.....so they can find new homes.
Wouldn't be surprised when the car stops running once the rats left. They kept the car together...🤣😂🤣

FaceMan, Great reply, lmao
I have my third C4 Vette. I love the styling of the C4 and didn’t like those of the C5’s. But, I wish mine had the instrument cluster and HUD of the 5s.
Any updates on that Austin Healey y'all were working on a while back?
I'm excited to see how you get this car running. Working on my dad's 2000 C5 and I'm getting lots of those ABS failure, service tire pressure monitor, and Active Handling failure as well. Seems that water in his seeped into the cabin causing many electrical issues.
I love that all corvette owners have the same phrase “mine is a rare corvette because.....”. Did Chevy make any non rare corvettes? Lol
Just the ‘53 model 😀
Wow....and I thought the barn kept C3 I bought years ago had issues.......good luck with his one.
