This was a fun one to watch! I'll never play these unless I find them on the course. There's just too many balls that are going to perform just as well for me, or better, that are half the price, or less. But it was cool to see the improvements for sure!
Well done - another excellent review. I particularly liked the comparative nature between the sibling balls. The real question however is who died in the lawn chair in your back yard.
Last season, when I ran out of my MTB prime, I went to the Tour response. The ball is incredible. I tried a TP5X I found and loved it too but wouldn't spend that much on a ball. At $35 per dozen, nothing is better than the stripe. Secondary ball is the Q Star tour.
@@gcoffey223 Tour response does not have the spin of the TP5. I'm more of a bump and run guy anyway. I will say from 50+ out the Stripe will def hold a green. I love both the q Star tour and tour response but the stripe gets the nod in putting.
Sorry I didn't mention the distance. 4 to 5 yards further than the Smell prime but I get about 5 yards less on a drive than I do with a q Star. 93 mph club Head speed.
@Golfdadoo thank you!! That QST really is a great ball. Sometimes the spin around the green still surprises me. A lot of folks don't like a matte finish, but I don't mind and I almost swear it stops better than the regular white shiny QST.
Glad to see taylormade has improved thier flagship ball. That gives me even more hope for the Distance + knowing the Speedsoft showed up and so did the TP5.
Well definitely encouraging to see, just really surprised about the around the greens feel. At least to me that is usually where the tour level balls shine vs every other ball. Oh well might pick up a sleeve at some point to try and see how they feel. Thanks for the honest review as always.
Pretty crazy that the SD-15 has better 50 yard spin. Seems to be following the trend of these larger manufacturers chasing distance by dropping spin, reminded me of the Wilson Staff review. Compared to many DTC brands that achieve similar distance with higher spin which is interesting.
So, kudos to you for not sticking to an opinion but being willing to revisit that mindset with new information. True mark of a reliable reviewer of any product. Well done. That being said ....still not for me. I am retired and I am trying to balance cost per performance and I would much rather pay $20 more to play a new hot track than spend that $20 on a big name, big dollar ball. With so many great options in the $2 to $2.50 a ball category..(shout out to my Maxfli Tours!) this would not find its way into my bag (unless it was an OPB *other people's ball!). As always, well done ....even the cheesy Taylormade for you shtick! 😄
Appreciate the love. You have to be able to admit you're wrong in this business and also acknowledge new information constantly comes out. I understand that. I won't play it either because of the price. It's just too expensive. I'd love to do the customized options but now you're getting into 70 $80.
I’ve used a couple tp5x I’ve found and I really liked it. I think it would be cool if on top of you saying how it feels if you also said the stated compression rating
Well here's the problem, most golf companies aren't labeling their compressions anymore. Don't get me wrong some still do, however the majority have quit doing it all together. I couldn't even tell you the compression of these two golf balls
I prefer the tour response. Compression more suitable to a slower swing speed, urethane cover, great alignment tool. Ticks all the boxes for me and $20 a dozen cheaper. I'll stick with the tour response.
I haven't used TP5 much. I got a dz of TP5x after winning long drive at an outing. Didn't blow me away or anything. I do like the Tour Response pretty well. Being on sale at $35 right now is a good deal. Probably means there's a new model coming soon
Love the content. Golf Ball Addict, do you believe outside temperature can have an effect on pitching and chipping results? Especially with higher compression golf balls.
Thank you very much. To answer your question, it can if the temperatures cold enough. Most of the time it would be slight enough to where only Minor adjustments would have to be made, but if you have a higher compression golf ball and all of a sudden it's rock hard, you're going to lose a lot of the spin with it.
Can you provide some details on the putting/chipping surface and wedges you’re using? It might help some of us place the results you’re getting in context.
Nick great video, have a question about future a test. Have you heard of the Saintnine, u-Pro 2 piece urethane ball? If you have what's your opinion of them and if not maybe a future test, ( about $16 Amazon)?
Have had many requests to do them for a review. I'm trying to get it done but I'm just so swamped right now. It'll probably be coming out late January or February
Agape’. 5 layer ball. M power 5 and M Power 5s. Review if you can/haven’t already. I play TP5x and TP5 depending on temp and green hardness. The Agape’ is as good and almost half the price.
If you do like the TP5 but scoff at the price point, stock up during the holiday season. Typically they go on sale where you buy 2 dozen for 70; which is quite reasonable for a tour ball. If you sign up for the email that price point goes from November until the end of January when they have new club releases.
It definitely looks and feels like a premium ball. I can definitely see a little bit of ego going into using it. I would love to have the Red Bull edition and flex on everyone
It’s a 5 piece ball. Of course it’s firm You better have a great swing speed to play this baby. I’ve been playing the your response strip. Usually get 4 rounds out of ball. I’m a 3 handicap. It’s a great call
I disagree..., TP5 (2023-204) has a compression of 85-87 ...this is not what I call firm...I practiced putting and short game with it and this is the good amount of firmness for me and less that a a chrome soft X which is fine
That's encouraging, I just picked up 2 dozen of the tour response stripe because they were on sale. Haven't tried them other then on a putting matt in the house and at least there they feel good.
Any reason you don't do half stars? On an out of 5 scale, it just seems like there's not enough granularity to be fair and precise when doing whole numbers only.
Well here's the trick. I kind of do but I also kind of don't. Think about it, if it's a half star I always make it a point to tell you guys. So even though it appears as a four, verbally it's three and a half.😁
what are the model of your clubs ? you have a very high smash factor for a 7i for example...1,4 is just out of this world ( pro trackman stats gives 1,36)
He's using like a 29 degree lofted 7 iron. Also smash factor won't always be accurate because for smash to be accurate, club speed measurement has to be very accurate.
I don't know why golfers complain so much about golf ball prices. I mean you really only need one, right? Right?! When is someone going to print a mini-movie along the alignment stripe of the ball?
I won't buy $55 balls. I'm an old guy with a normal game, so they won't make any difference for me. Volvik has 3 piece urethane balls for $20 right now. Giving those a try as soon as it stops raining.
I just got some of the new stripe I love the design and wish they would out that clear stripe on the lower priced balls but I'm starting to get to the point where I'm seeing the benefits of the premium balls but my wallet doesn't agree hahahhaa
Good for TaylorMade to have made these improvements but still not for me. I am not that good of a player. There are,as you have proved, 2 piece balls that will perform for me. Also I cannot afford or justify paying that amount when I can purchase the Inesis 900 tour or the Precept Laddie for a lot less. The money spent on marketing is working for TaylorMade but for us average golfers there are better balls at half the price.
This was a fun one to watch! I'll never play these unless I find them on the course. There's just too many balls that are going to perform just as well for me, or better, that are half the price, or less. But it was cool to see the improvements for sure!
Wow! I have some of the new ones I found! I may give them a hit this week! Thanks Nick
If you do please let me know how you end up liking them. Would love some feedback
I've always like TM balls. I usually play a Vice Pro Plus but like the TP5X also.
It feels like there's some really good competition between those two golf balls right now
Nice... I do appreciate the multi ball reviews. Best
Anytime friend. Thank you so much for watching
Well done - another excellent review. I particularly liked the comparative nature between the sibling balls. The real question however is who died in the lawn chair in your back yard.
Lol Grandpas dying wish was to be able to watch me play golf for eternity. 😁
"They're TaylorMade for you" with the grin , 🤣🤣🤣
I've had to come to the realization lately but I'm a lot funnier than I give myself credit for. I won't rob you all that experience anymore 😁
Got a great deal on the TP5. $33/dz so I racked up with 12 dz Works well enough for at $33/dz. Enjoy the content
Yeah at that price I would have stocked up too 😁

How's the greenside spin on the tour response? Also, I hear it is pretty long too
There's so many people who love this golf ball. I did a retest recently and was impressed

Anytime friend. Love the support 😁
Some great figures from the launch monitor Nick. I believe TaylorMade has softened the compression to give a nicer feel
Yeah even though I'm not a big tailor-made guy I still have to give credit where credit is due. Unfortunately 😆
Pretty crazy that the SD-15 has better 50 yard spin.
Seems to be following the trend of these larger manufacturers chasing distance by dropping spin, reminded me of the Wilson Staff review. Compared to many DTC brands that achieve similar distance with higher spin which is interesting.
Yes you are correct. I've noticed that trend too. I'm not sure if that's sustainable but they probably know more than me

@GolfBallAddict you did? I've probably watched it but will check

There have been so many people who love the TaylorMade Tour response. So much in fact that I went back and did a retest of it.
I wish you would acually film the course testing would like to see it
Not every golf ball gets course testing. I bought a new camera recently so you will get to see some vlogs and challenges and stuff.

I forgot which model blade and mallet putter do you use for testing? Only time I’ve tried these balls is when I find one in the rough/woods.
Putting has been a Cobra vintage cuda that I loved. Paired with an old White Hot Odyssey from 25 years ago

The stripe makes the golf ball harder to find. Odd but true 👍

(I moved on from the TP5 to the Vice Pro this year, still)
Yes
TP5x is what I play when I want to feel like a high roller, or friends/family ask me what they can get me for a gift.

They aee tour balls aimed at scratch golfers. From that perspective? These are fine results.

Nothing worse than watching $4 golf balls sail straight into the woods

I love the clear stripe option as well. I hope they bring it to the tour response soon.
TP5 would be good contender of PXG XT BUT... price; You get 3 dozens of PXG for 2 dozens of TP5 for similar characteristics and performance.
The most accurate comment I've seen today😎

Yeah TaylorMade has spent what feels like gazillions on marketing
You haven’t pushed the TP5s as long as you’ve pushed out the left dash 😂
That's because they are easier to find lol. Finding a left- is like finding a unicorn
