The PROV1X has so much spin around the greens compared to other balls, like the TP5. The spin is noticeable and it helps me to play better. It's not marketing, young man, it's the results. I am a 20 handicapper. I play mostly balls that I find as I play. I keep the good ones for the golf bag, and toss the used up or super cheap ones in my shag bag at the house. I must admit, I get excited when I find a Pro-V1 and I put it in a special pocket on my golf bag. I love to break them out on par 3's. They seem to find the green more frequently for me. I am sure it is in my head as a weird confidence thing, but the results are still there.
I used to be just like you. Loved the Pro V1 but played with all kinds of random golf balls. Then I got a push cart and started using a colored golf ball because it was easier to track. My scores slowly rose, birdies went away like winter in Canada. Last month, I put the Pro V1X Left Dash into play just to try something new. Went on a tear with 2 birdies a round for 3 straight rounds and bagged my first eagle. I will not touch another golf ball if someone paid me. Makes golf life much simpler. Now I donate all my found balls, found mostly because I like doing my part to clean up the golf course hah.

To say it's not much better would be the same as saying a modern day 460CC titanium driver and a classic Persimmon driver are equal, or not much different, which is ludicrous. Hey Man, Billy Denton here, lifelong Golf Pro as well. The Spalding Tour Edition was the first multilayer with a soft cover. The problem was it spun too much. Titleist figured out how balance the spin and launch. The TW was good too, but most of the old school pros didn’t want anything to do with Nike. The ProV evolved quicker too. The ball today is far superior to the original.
In 2001 I was an 8/9 handicap and had been for a couple of years using professional 90's. When the PRO V1 was first released it was a revelation. I dropped almost instantly to a 5/6 handicap. If you have never used a wound ball for a time you will never know what a difference they were for low to mid handicap players and they had the added benefit of being a lot more durable.
The ProV1 didn't directly replace the Titleist Tour Balata. At the time I was playing on the Professional level. On Tour most players had already ditched my beloved Titleist Tour Balata. Many for the Titleist Professional. The Professional was a little longer, a little more durable, but it was also a little more firm around the green. It made a much higher percentage of chip shots, shots that the player was believing could be holed. The Tour Balata was also magnificent in its ability to make 90* turns with long to mid irons. Because the ball was so soft, big giant swings could be made with the ball only traveling 10-20 yards. This characteristic created rescue and save shots that haven't existed since. And my oh my.... On really fast greens that marshmallow of a Tour Balata putted gentle as a cotton swab. To this day, in a perfect world, I would roll those babies for sure. Now I pray and search far and wide for a ball that is longer than the ProV1 at Senior swing speeds, cuz that's all the horsepower left under the hood.😢
Starting the game as a kind I am now in my late 50th, still playing of HDCP 3 - in tournaments always ProV1, in private also Vice, Taylormade, Callaway … - nearly of any age and quality; whatever is in my bag. When I grew up Titelst balata was the ball of the top amateurs and professionals. So it was prestigious to play also a ball from at least the same brand. Not for me since I played Spalding irons. My best round is still a 65 (-7) I played with a TopFlite XL! My recommendation to all players with HDCP >10 who want to get better: play any ball you get (as long it´s not a range ball) and save the money for lessons at a good coach. More greens in regulation and better short game is the real game changer, not a ball for 5€++ ! Have fun and enjoy this wonderful game. K
I remember when these came out also. I played golf myself and I was a caddy at the closest country club. There was a definite group of players, mainly the old men that were playing old Wilson blades, that swore to never use the new Pro V. But the younger members that were playing Ping Eye 2’s or Tommy Armour 845’s…they all used the new ball. 😅 And as a caddy, you knew if you were looping for the younger guy with the new stuff, you’d be spending a lot of time looking for lost tee shots.
Thank you for this, it's a great explanation of what happened then with the advancements in golf ball tech. Always wondered what happened to Spalding/Top Flite, I still have my Spalding Pro Flite clubs from the 90s and in so many ways they are still so nice to hit (even compared to my P790s). They still feel great. Don't know why there are so many negative comments here, not deserved. Thanks again.
I was playing in college when the Pro V1 got released to the general public. I had never even heard of it when our coach handed them out. When we walked off the first green, we knew the game had changed forever.
kislux bags are beautiful and I have never been disappointed with a handbag. The leather is soft and the hardware is durable. The design never goes out of style.
Wedges should have been the last thing you tested. Even modern ProV's, pros are switching them out pretty much every 2-3 holes due to wear from irons. The Balata covers use to be switched out every 1-2 holes as they were much worse and prone to smiley's off cuts, which would leave a riged 'smile' on your golf ball. You have no idea how many players have had to hit chips with a busted ball.
If you ask anyone who checks their balls COG before playing them, they will all tell you that Titleist has the least duds. That's why I always thought they were so popular, because they have the best quality control.
Titleist already had a majority of pros under contract and most were going to stick with the Titleist wound ball until they came out with a multi layer solid ball. As he said, the PV1 was no better than any other comparable ball at the time, but they had the pros and even hacks want to play what the pros play.
I was a huge tour balata fan in the 90’s … only down part to those were when you would skull one it would cut the ball .. but man they spun so good on a green
The average golfer isn't going to notice a difference, that's why there's such a delta between improvement for the average, the scratch, and the tour card player. Average and scratch aren't striking the ball accurately enough to get outlier-type results, but a guy with a tour card certainly is.
I wouldn't be surprised if Tiger knew his ball was special and therefore told them to not make the balls readily available because he wanted to keep his advantage as long as possible.
You found the reason why The Nike ball didn’t work for many players ? The cover would tear up after a few holes. With a price tag that would cost you more than for the price of your green fee.
The first Nike ball wasnt a Nike ball, it was a rebadged Precept Tour Premium. So I was playing the "Tiger" ball, but $1 cheaper. I still have a few left. So there you have another premium multi layer ball thay preceded the Prov1
I’ve only bought one box of pro v1 in my life and that was to give to my adult son for Christmas, I’m not good enough to justify spending that much money on a ball I’m just going to lose lol. I usually buy the Callaway super soft max because I read a few articles that said it’s a good ball for older golfers with slower swings like myself and it’s typically one of the cheapest balls at my local shop, that’s good enough for me.
As a beginner, these expensive balls don't do anything for me. Anything I happen to have is good enough as long as it isn't damaged - I will probably lose the thing anyways after a few shots. If I ever run out of balls, I would go to your sponsor and order a tub full of something or another.
Acushnet knows how to market, and people all think it is the number one ball in golf for decades. DT wound ball used to be most sold golf balls back in the days.
You can say that again! Acushnet pours the same R&D into the lowly Pinnacle balls they manufacture. They marketed the PV1’s so well that you will now get laughed at for gaming the Pinnacles. I admit that being an older guy, there is something sort of relaxing or maybe just nostalgic when you address the ball and you see that Titleist label on the ball. You don’t think that when looking at your Pinnacle ball, 😂
I have tested all the major brands and a handful of small time brands, I find I have the best spin control and distance control withe the prov1….. I wish it was a cheaper ball but in my case it’s not. I will say the best feeling ball was a Bridgestone ball but it would hook too much
If you are not a +2 or better and can hit a PW seventeen different ways, this ball will not help. Around the green if you chip it wrong it runs off the back, if you catch it perfectly it checks up 12' short. Basically, it introduces a variable into your game that you have no control over. I won $75 last week because my opponent kept ripping his wedges back off the front of the green. He had no idea how to hit a zero-spin wedge. Nor do i.
I disagree with what you are saying. I use the PROV1 ball and my game improved dramatically especially around the greens. If Titleist was all about markering, the Tour players wouldn't play it. The thing you are paying for in addition to the R and D You are paying for consistency ball by ball.
@@AsadKhan-lm6yr to soft they don’t spin enough for me I tried them I play srixon z star diamonds great ball imo the brand new vice balls are fantastic as well
Should not make vids when you don't know the history, and have a predetermined bias against Titleist. The Pro V was a giant leap also from the Tour Accuracy. Played the TA faithfully for a year until I found a Pro V in the rough -> WTF I am missing out! 😮
I disagree about the nike ball being better than a ProV1. Maybe for you but overall? Idk. Nike has all but quit making golf products at this point. And the ONLY reason they wanted in on golf was for sponsorship purposes. They had no interest in golf before Tiger came along. The rise of Nike in golf goes hand in hand with his rise to glory. And once he fell off so did Nike. Think im wrong? Go look at the sales. Nike wanted to get into golf and put together a development team but their early gear was trash. Their later gear became some of the best on the market but id go Taylormade or Callaway before Nike. I'd rather use something made by a company who specializes in one particular sport with a proven track record over a jack of all trades sports company who came in late to the game and just wants to cash in. Thats just smart business
Now not much of that has to do with ball performance 😂 but it does. Tiger helped develop with Nike and im sure their stuff is good for pros and people who can make good use of that equipment. But id do a Titleist over a nike any day. And thats not for brand preference. I just like the overall feel of a titleist more than the Nike. The way it comes off the club face in short game and putting is what makes the difference for me. I could drive either about the same but short games the most important overall
I don’t think there’s a single “best ball” that fits everyone. I’m a mid hcp with pretty avg swing speed, and I use the Bridgestone golf ball finder on their website. Maybe other brands have that too. You enter a couple of metrics and preferences, and they recommend a ball for you. For me, it was one in the mid-price tier, and it works perfectly fine. I don’t think I would gain anything by just buying a V1 or another super expensive one.
This is now another person mentioning Tiger playing a superior ball to every other pro during the 2000 season. If this is true it diminishes his accomplishments in what is often considered the greatest golf season ever.
Wrong!! They are the best and I also was playing when they arrived on the scene and I still play them at 63 years old and a 5 hdc. I’ve tested many many balls over the years and some these days are certainly comparable but give me the choice and it’s Pro V1 period.

Reading his book right now. I thought he'd be way older
or just get a snell ball as the founder dean snell created the pro v1
Snell fell off
kirkland is better and cheaper
Nor do i.
If you’re a single digit you need to play a pro V or equivalent or you’re losing shots.
If you're below 15 handicap you should know how to control spin and shape your shots, spin control is one of the most important aspects of the game
Bro drank too much yappacino
Are you the company man YT channel?
Smashing content! Keep it up bro! ❤❤
My favorite was nike David Duval ball.
Tour Accuracy DD
I always shoot my best numbers with a ProV1 or X. I use Srixon Z-Star XVs as well. Those two balls are the best for me.
Bridgestone was making the balls for Tiger and Nike all the way back then!
I disagree with what you are saying. I use the PROV1 ball and my game improved dramatically especially around the greens. If Titleist was all about markering, the Tour players wouldn't play it. The thing you are paying for in addition to the R and D You are paying for consistency ball by ball.
I play The Pinnacle Rush
How many dimples? Not 388
We always tell folks, hit a new ball one time and bingo it's used!
I prefer Callaway’s chrome soft
i think the tp5 and z star play better for me!
The TP5 is a really nice feeling ball!!!
Like the tour response?
@@AsadKhan-lm6yr to soft they don’t spin enough for me I tried them I play srixon z star diamonds great ball imo the brand new vice balls are fantastic as well
Should not make vids when you don't know the history, and have a predetermined bias against Titleist. The Pro V was a giant leap also from the Tour Accuracy.
Played the TA faithfully for a year until I found a Pro V in the rough -> WTF I am missing out! 😮
What? Vox isn’t a good news source? 😂
Are you on a personal mission here or what:)
Wait, is this a #PaidAd
I know that practice area! LOL. Nice job on the video!
I loved the Nike 20xi but Nike screwed the pooch.
😊😊
I don’t think there’s a single “best ball” that fits everyone. I’m a mid hcp with pretty avg swing speed, and I use the Bridgestone golf ball finder on their website. Maybe other brands have that too. You enter a couple of metrics and preferences, and they recommend a ball for you. For me, it was one in the mid-price tier, and it works perfectly fine. I don’t think I would gain anything by just buying a V1 or another super expensive one.
Great video!
Overpriced to pay tour players.
Just play a Maxfli tour or a Vice Pro and save your sweet moola from uncle Rico.
Never liked them, preferred the nxt tour. As usual Titleist changed the name
Everybody luvs TW so who cares
I hit it so far i still can't find it. Titleist lose a customer here 😂
This is now another person mentioning Tiger playing a superior ball to every other pro during the 2000 season. If this is true it diminishes his accomplishments in what is often considered the greatest golf season ever.
It wasn't some juiced up prototype; it was a conforming ball and allegedly was a rebadged Precept Tour Premium.
Tiger wasn't the only person using them and they have been around since the mid 80s. Mark O'Meara won an open with a solid core ball in 1998.
Weird how a man with a 1990’s haircut has captivated your attention.
Wrong!! They are the best and I also was playing when they arrived on the scene and I still play them at 63 years old and a 5 hdc. I’ve tested many many balls over the years and some these days are certainly comparable but give me the choice and it’s Pro V1 period.
