Peej! Eric from Black Arts here. You could frame that photo of the 48 and the squirrel! It’s beautiful! 🤩 Luckily for me, an experienced airgunner pointed me in the direction of the 48 about 30 years ago when I was in the firearms business. I couldn’t believe I was spending over $300 for a .177 pellet gun, but he assured me that I would fall in love with its accuracy and handling. He was absolutely correct on all counts. I don’t know how many rounds I have through that rifle, but it has never once given me an ounce of problems and is more accurate than I am! I recently picked up a model 52 in .22 from a client of mine. It had sat in his gun safe for a couple decades because the anti bear trap had gotten bent up somehow and he didn’t know how to fix it. $50 for the gun and $15 for the part off of eBay and I was in business. I threw an old Vari-X 3 I had laying around on it and that thing is just as accurate as the 48! @@efrey1911 thanks for tuning in and for sharing the stories of your Diana’s. I’m lucky to have had chances to review all kinds of airguns, and hands down the Diana’s have generated the most stories like this.
In 1989 my dad picked up an RWS Model 52, which is basically this gun with a checkered stock. It was the gun that got me into air rifles. We spent ages shooting it of the porch at my dad's shop or in the indoor range at his buddy's garage. When he passed I inherited the gun and I love shooting it. Every shot brings memories. That being said, I had to add an anti-barrel droop riser and a scope for my eyesight. My only complaint with this gun is how heavy it is. It's more than capable of hunting, but it's just not fun to lug very far.
I use my 48 for shooting gophers all the time, I use a Bogpod tripod with the platform rest addition (can't think of the name of it off the top of my head). You can just leave the 48 on the rest between shots, saves your arms because as you said it is a beast to hold and carry around for any length of time, LOL.
Had one a few years back and had it tuned to perfection spent a small fortune on it. It was set at about 11ftlbs the limit in the uk but the accuracy was incredible out at 56 yards I could get all my shots under a uk 5p coin which is 15mm. It had the T01 trigger it was stripped tuned and set at 1 pound 5onces. But I sold it on and regretted it as you do.
Now i had install the Steyr bridge with 0,5° down to front and the Ritter 6-24 x 50 vision3. Also i change on the Front of the barrel to the barrelweight from the 56th. IT works well
You are absolutely spot on with your comments regarding finding out how the springer should be held to produce the most accurate results. I have a Gamo Fox, which is a springer. I have never seen a review of the gun claiming it to be a very accurate gun. My experience with it was, every time I shot it I would get widely varying groups. I blamed the Fox, I blamed the scope, which was a good quality scope. In frustration I put the scope on one of my pcp's and was getting very tight groups. I put the scope back on the Fox and took great care to hold the gun precisely the same way each time I shot it. A miracle, I started consistently getting groups between 1 inch to 1/2 inch groups at 20 and 25 yards. Certainly not as accurate as my pcp's, but a far cry better than what I previously was getting. I found that moving my hand hold as little as an inch along the barrel support would markedly effect accuracy. So it wasn't the Fox, it wasn't the scope, it was me not finding the right hold to produce the best accuracy for the Fox. Incidently, your videos are very good.
I can concur about using what is known as the artillery hold to produce the best results with a springer. I own a few different types and brands of airguns with differing power levels, and I achieve the best results with the light hold sensitivity of the artillery hold with all my springers. I just found your channel and subscribed as I’m debating purchasing a Diana model 48, and find UA-cam invaluable when gleaning information one can trust. Ciao and namaste

I own a diana 48 and have recently put a Vortek PG4 steel HO kit in it. The gun has become more accurate. The springbuzz is gone and it has become silent. More fun to shoot. Open notch and blade sights just aren't very precise. They are great in low light, against targets of low contrast at close range. Perfect in the woods!
