I met Julie Andrews in 1987 in St.Louis,MO.after her presentstion at the Fox Theater.I waited in line at the parking lot,and I welcomed Ms.Andrews to St Louis.I expressed to her that I thought she had guts, and I like people, who have guts.Whiie expressing this to her,she shook my hand and smiled.Julie Andrews IS ONE Special Human Being❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was born in 1962 and these two beautifully grown up talented women set The standard fir humor and that knowing sense of grown up fun . They were so aware of what each was known for but what set them apart was that both could deliver. What a treat and forever their friendship will go on because they loved to have fun together. Lucky us
Carols a brilliant belter, and Julie is a brilliant singer, works perfect for the act of showing how Julie is very classy and English and carol is the opisite
I was 4 years old. A rambunctious, active 4 year old. My mother tells me I sat still for the entire show. A first. I fell in love with both ladies and the love affair continues to this day. Thank you ladies for a lifetime of music and laughter.
I was 15 when I saw this performed on TV. That same year, 2 girls in my high school drama class lip-synced to one of the songs from this show during an extravaganza our class put on called Dramarama. It was so perfectly done they got a standing ovation. I was supposed to appear in a number from West Side Story, but it was cut at the last minute and I ended up working in the lighting booth. After the show, we celebrated at a favorite local ice cream parlor. I sat through the entire celebration, eating no ice cream, with my lip poked out in disappointment.
You should have enjoyed that ice cream! Lighting is an important job on stage and I’m sure you did an awesome job! Thank you for sharing and have a Merry Christmas!
What you said/wrote, your sentiments, are so sweet. I was 7/8 years of age at the time. And I'm just seeing this now in 2023. Better late than never. 😊
I have the LP record from my parent's large collection of show music. This is the first time I ever saw the broadcast that the record belonged to. Boy, what a show!
I was 10 and remember it was a big special for our family to watch - like the Beatles on Ed Sullivan--everything like that was the big entertainment for families in the 60s
Love this one.I saw some clips when I was at "Carnegie Hall".Not for a concert.Just with a guide.I have found the vinyl album.Thank u for posting this.
My favorite vocalist and my favorite comedian together in concert! What a gift! I’m so happy to be alive in this technological era to still be able to enjoy amazing performances like these. Thank you so much, Dame Andrews for sharing. God Bless
When Carol Burnett was Carol Burnett. So exciting, so fresh, so talented, so funny, so down to earth, so likable, so genuine. She was my idol. The talent remains. That never dies.
Diamonds 💎 caught on camera I love them 😍 carol has to pull a face and everyone laughs so effortlessly and Julie sings a note and the room goes quiet with anticipation
Extra - ordinary! I've seen the other two follow up specials but this one eluded me until now. Never, have I heard West Side Story sung so beautifully and effortlessly (seemingly so) as right here.
The Nausiev Ballet was a spoof of the Rudolph Nureyev ballet tour of the time and of course ,From Switzerland: The Pratt Family was a spoof of the stage play The Sound of Music I wish this were available on dvd
@@jamesmoconnell Yes, both alive but not singing anymore. And I disagree about "talent like these two"..Julie had a 5 active voice that was pure with perfect pitch. Carol and a wonderful contralto voice with great comedic acting skills . Singers today scream. Very few sing Bel Canto. You have to go to Opera to find that. Pop stars of my era. with flawless voices: Joan Baez, Linda Ronstadt, Barbara Streisand, etc, are sadly missing on the scene. Screaming loudly and shrieking does not count for what I am taking about.
I have loved this show for most of my life seeing it as a kid, listening endlessly to it on record, and now seeing it again here. But it's mortifying to know that Carol won an Emmy for this (and her other special that season Carol and Company) and Julie wasn't even nominated for her work on it. Julie didn't win her first Emmy (despite four nominations) until her TV variety show won in 1972 (beating Carol's show in the process).
Thank you SO much for uploading this!! I love these two together, they are both so funny and flawless :) I wish that there were people like these two again!
When they chose the best female Carnegie Hall concerts this was one of the three best ones with the 1975 Barbara Cook concert and of course the best one the 1961 Judy Garland performance
Thank you so much for uploading Darling Lili and The Americanization of Emily!!!! I love them!! I've watched The Sound of Music but could you please upload it if possible?? On dailymotion? Cause I don't think you could do it on UA-cam!! I'm a huge fan of Julie!! Love you Julie!!!!!!
That’s not true. My Fair Lady helped Julie land Camelot, helped Walt Disney to discover her for Mary Poppins, helped Robert Wise to secure her for The Sound of Music. These specials where for American Broadway enthusiasts to see to Broadway stars perform.
Fun fact at 33:10 when carol hits Julie stomach Julie was pregnant and carol was the only person who knew so carol felt bad that’s why Julie covered her mouth.
I always thought the 'The Nausiev Ballet' sequence was based on the Moiseyevs which had recently toured the USA. "The Moiseyev Dance Company made its first American tour in 1958 and its second in 1961." (The New York Times - May 6, 1964). That certainly fits with the style of exotic high end folk dance they did, rather than classical Ballet of Nureyev. The West Side Story ending of the Musicals sequence always gets me.
Or , as the late great Joan Morrissey sang ..... " oh dear what a catastrophe..... 7 old ladies got lock'd in the lavatory.............. "..........thank you kindly for posting.....slainte
I have this CD and the 1971 Lincoln Center performance but this one is better. Julie Andrews sang a The Sound of music sátire two years before she played Maria.
It seems to me that Carol is not feeling well and is ill. She is sweating profusely and it explains her periodic odd behavior. Especially towards the end during Julie's solo. She looks like she's about to pass out.
it might be bc of the stage lights, and the heat. as a performer, the stage is really hot when you have all of the lights on you, and singing for 50 mins straights is really hard.
Julie said: "Carol tells a story at the end of a one song. She(Carol) wacks me on the stomach with her hand and it's part (Julie thinks) of a joke. But after it was over, you know she said Oh my God, Julie's pregnant, I know, it's ok. " Reference: BBC Omnibus The Julie Andrews Story( m.ua-cam.com/video/wnRrbiVbvrE/v-deo.html)
I used to wonder whether Carol was genuinely upset and apologising for whacking Julie in the stomach so hard when she was pregnant, and Julie was laughing it off saying she was okay, but according to her autobiography “Home”, this can’t be true because Julie only found out two weeks after their performance that she was pregnant. Carol was horrified when she remembered this gag in the show; but honoured to be the first person Julie told she was pregnant.
True. But Julie is contradicting herself on the time line, as well. In other interviews she has said that she (and Carol) already knew about the pregnancy filming this show. In the Book she says the opposite. I haven’t read anything from Burnett on that topic though. Anyone?
I’ve listened to her audio version 2 years ago (almost to the date), driving down from Canada back to Duluth, MN and remember going like “wtf? I just read an interview where she said Carol knew at that point and was mortified about hitting her”. 2yrs is a long time, I’ll go searching my brain, @sam carpetier. :)
Carol sure knows how to belt out a song. She reminds me of my older sister who can sing like an angel.

Will there ever be talent like this to perform live upon whatever hi tech screens we may possess?
Oh God, what an amazing TWO WOMEN show!

This makes me so happy! My two favorite performers of all time! Sing on ladies!
The Pratt Family Singers bit never gets old. It’s almost 60 years and the spoofing of The Sound of Music is so deadly accurate.
The Pratt Family sátirewas before The Sound of music movie.
@@dianaaljadeff2983 yes but the stage show with Mary Martin had been around since 1961 and was well known.
Such *pure ascendant talent* what a gift for us

Extra - ordinary! I've seen the other two follow up specials but this one eluded me until now.

This is probably my favorite version of that song apart from the OBC
Carol is still Carol in my book.

Fashion fades, but style and class remain - Andrews & Burnett - personify it
Can we just take a second to appreciate julies southern accent lol
Makes me sad we don’t have talent like these two anymore.
We do!! Our culture just doesn't value it the same way so you don't see it.
we do, you just have to work harder to see it. Traditional vocals are no longer part of the mainstream.
They're still around. Just very old, both in their 80s. Carol is the eldest of the two.
Um... its been a year since your comment.
We do, indeed, have takent like these two -- they're both still very much alive.

Crimeny. Not that Carol was undeserving, but how could they not nominate Julie?
Brilliant! Pure genius. Well, some of it.

As a small child I would watch shows like this and actually believe everything they sang and said as if it were real life.
This is the fun we all enjoy for generations, i remember this sets of show the missing funniest part is the greek god show lol
This is what they used to call a "Spectacular" on tv.
Wow thank you so much for posting this! What a fantastic show, I laughed so much, they make such a great team😂❤
OMG WTF.....THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY AMAZING!!!!! WHY IS THIS NOT THE RE RUN ON CHANNEL THIRTEEN!!!
This is 6 years before Carol's show....and 2 years before Mary Poppins. But they were known for Broadway (well Once Upon a Mattress was Off Broadway!)

Would've loved to see Julie play more trombone.
Did Julie and Carol ever do a commentary on any of their performances? I think it'd be so wonderful to hear their thoughts and stories about them
