You don't have to remove the lens to fit the camera into the SmallRig cage. Just open the front and the side of the cage and slide the camera in.
For those who seek an alternative setting: Get the Pgytech cage and use the Ulanzi OA-11 clip that offers a 1/4'' screw. This way you will have one extra clip in your repertoire of accessories. Additionally, the OA-11 clip can be either screwed or attached in a 'traditional' GoPro way.
Either way, very nice vid.
Hey mate, just got the smallrig cage. I just learned that you just need to remove the rubber in the lens in order to insert the main camera without removing the whole lens. Great review!😁👌
Just to point out that when I got mine yesterday, the first thing I tried was to fit the camera in the SmallRig cage and as long as the rubber protection ring is not fitted, then it goes in just fine without removing the lens cover. Best Dave
Very good point. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Great compariso and I have been looking for a clear clean comparison.
Wonderful review! Thanks! Makes you wonder why Smallrig didn't create a detachable side panel to protect the USB flap for when not using the DJI mic, or why they didn't place the smaller quarter-20 near where the mic is, but other than that, looks like a good case!
Hi! How's the camera holding up with the pgytech cage? Someone tells that it does create scratches on the camera but haven't seen any reviews showing them. Thanks!
Attention: The cages are great and have different mounting options and side openings. However, they are not to be used when riding a motorcycle. All metal cages with a metal lever or slider for the side openings will rattle and rattle. From a certain speed you only hear a rattling and rattling. It even gets on my nerves while driving. The sound of the recording can no longer be used.
Thanks for the information, I just want to buy the smallrig cage for motovlog...after reading this I just wonder what is the cage that proper to used for motovlog filming
Thanks. I have the PGYtech cage and found that the magnetic mount on the short side wobbles and is not as stable as the one on the bottom of the camera. Both cages have some pros and cons. Sstefano
the sound is very low, use "hard limiter" from premiere, block it max at -3, fill it with 10 db in your case. Just to be heard. Thx
2.6K views, and you're the only person to complain about sound. I think the sound is good. Thanks for the advice, and thanks for watching.
@@lenzwizard nice vid :)
Lenzwizard!love it!that is superb dji,take it easy~
Excuse me, sir, can cages for Action 3 and 4 fit to Action 1? Or they're unfitable one to another?
@@FuriousCommunist No, the cages for the Action 3 & 4 will not work with Action 1.
@@lenzwizard Thank you very much for the information!
Great video! Exactly what I was interested to know 👍
Sawaddee kub 🙏. Thank you for the vdo, just bought Action 3 and looking for a comparison. Now I know what I wanna get. Hope to bump into you whenever you visit Thailand.
Thank you sir for watching the video. I'm usually in Thailand in December. I love Thailand and hope to retire there in a few years.
@@lenzwizard Please let me know if your are coming this December, and I'm looking forward to your next video...Subscribed :)
Can you use nd filter with these on?
I wish to compared the Smallrig to the Tiffany cage, seems comparable 😮. Thxs
Thank you for a very useful video.
No problem.
what about screen protective screens, do they work with those cases?
Hi dude, what is the difference with dji cage included in the adventure combo?. Thanks in advance
The DJI cage is plastic, and in my opinion if you're not putting your camera in rough situations, the DJI cage is OK. If you're hand holding your camera in walk around situations or shooting travel/tourists video the plastic cage is good.
However, it is an "action camera," so if you're going to be in situations where the camera has the potential to be knocked around, a metal cage is the way to go.
@@lenzwizard thanks for your reply. Getting from Chile
The DJI cage doesn't have a coldshoe. It also doesn't have a door for the battery. So If you're swapping batteries, you actually have to remove the magnetic mount first so the camera will be able to slide out of the cage. Then take the camera out to swap the batteries.
If you put lighting on the cold shoe,, that make your top microphone will closed..
That’s a speaker.
Any chance you've tried the SMALLRIG Magnetic Adapter Mount with the PGYTECH cage? This mount has the 1/4-20, and foldable feet, so it gives you both options at the ready, and I personally like what I'm seeing about the PGYTECH cage better than the SMALLRIG cage.
Yes, I have the Smallrig mount you're talking about. It is good, but the folding tabs are horrible if the camera is moving and not stationary. When the tabs are used they have a little bit of movement side to side and I found it very annoying. The 1/4-20 works great and the magnetic connection was better than the DJI mount.
@@lenzwizard Yeah, I've had similar and expected a possible wobble; I use 1/4-20 most of the time anyway and heard the magnetic connection is solid. Just to be sure; does it fit with the PGYTECH cage?
@@MeanderingMax Yes, the Smallrig mount is the same size as the DJI mount and it works with the PGYTECH cage.
Great video!
I appreciate you showing all the features and weighing it. I prefer the look of the PGYtech, but the cutout for the DJI mic on the Smallrig makes me want to lean that way. I'm really not sure. A lot of times I don't even bother connecting the DJI mic to the camera and would rather just sync it up in post. The placement of the coldshoe above the mic is also a weird choice by Smallrig. I think right now I am going to get the PGYtech version.
you know that the position of the cold shoe on the smallrig is actually a good thing? Try mounting something into the cold shoe on the pgytech and it most likely covers your power on button. I also saw another video where the cold shoe of the pgytech could not even mount every cold shoe but was in fact to slim (dont remember which video it was here on the platform though)
@@Coli272 I have the product now. When I mount an LED, it doesn't block the shutter button at all. It would only block it if you were to put something really wide on the top like maybe the DJI mic. Even then, it only covers a portion of the button and you can still press it. I still prefer the PGYtech design.
@@blackmamba6938 it all comes down to preference, many people have the rode wireless mic and it def. covers most of the power button. :-)
