That's a good kit. Something I like to carry is a roll of vet wrap in place of Band-Aids. I like the 4" X 5 yds. Rolls. It can be used as a tourniquet in an emergency. Some of the local police officers that I have introduces this to have told me it is been used to save more than a few people's lives. It makes one hell of a tough Band-Aid. 😁
Another great video, Dan… you lay it out such that new guys can get the drift, and those of us with some experience can enjoy your various choices…. Very informative, and much appreciated… wish there were more like you
Great video I'm getting one of those pouches! Remember the later 10 Cs Dave came up with compass, candle, cotton, canvas needle and cargo tape. For cover Id roll up 2 or 3 regular trash bags. Cutting ranger bands 1/2 inch wide from bike tubes come in handy as well. I'm sure I could squeeze some snare wire and fishing kit in the voids.
Great concept Dan, putting most of your items in your pockets will give you more room in the pouch. A headlamp would be a better choice for "candeling". I use a Maxpedition 12"X5" bottle holder for one of my truck kits.
Nice! I have a kit built around that same bottle bag. There's a round watertight Sistema container that fits perfectly in that bottom compartment; I use it for salt, bouillon and electrolyte caps. My favorite bottle bag kit is built into a Maxpedition 12x5 with a pair of Cocoons on either side. In that I carry a small multitool, knife, fire stuff, water treatment tabs, etc. I actually do like the $1 cheapie ponchos, they work fine for a few uses especially with a bit of paracord to make a belt. Mine also has an SOL HeatSheet for shelter.
I have similar pouch for metal canteen but I have a titanium Stanley style cup with lid. Inside is net pouch with knife, compass, 2. 410 caliber shotgun cartridges, a folding knife with saw, lighter, 2 small candles, pencil sharpener ( to get dry kindling from sticks) On front of canteen pouch is a front zip pocket I stuffed with first aid gear including tcp oil bandages etc. It has sling to put over shoulder and 2 straps on back I folded waterproof poncho into the straps so the pouch itself it's similar to a " T" shape. Plenty of room above metal container so added thin gloves and a heavy duty zip lock bag to put white birch bark or other resources I find. Awesome video mate, respect from 🇬🇧
@@ochocobushcraft1742 I chose titanium as it is better at heat conduction and will boil water faster. On outside of pouch I also have 2 bunjee cords and interlinked parachord to the molly on outside. I still need to add mylar blankets to the kit. Joining international legion of Ukraine in November so need to go as minimal as possible they advised.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 thank you mate I really appreciate that. Been accepted into 4th battalion for training, putting all my belongings into storage and preparing best I can.
Oh boy Dan you have gone and done it now lol!! I think that some things that I would add to this kit is as follows: 1. A small pealess whistle, such as one of those SOL rescue howler models for signaling. 2. A 55 gallon contractor bag that can be used to maybe line the inside where the bottle sits. These have so many uses I would be here all day trying to list them all. 3. A small Starflash signal mirror that could fit inside the bandana in the bottom. 4, Along with the mirror, place a credit card sized Fresnel lens in that compartment to. Would be a redundancy for fire starting at the least. 5. A small but good quality compass, such as those ones made by Sun company, for at least cardinal directions and since it does have a rotating bezel possibly navigation. 6. Some water purification tablets for obvious reasons. 7. A couple of the small chem lights to use on some cord for the buzz saw signaling devise. Like the kind used for fishing lures. 8. Maybe buy a small container of dental floss for extra cordage. Break the container and just use the spool. 9. I would add to the med kit a couple of packets of the PK hydration mixes to treat possible symptoms of dehydration. 10. I would also add, only because I have them from other kits I have made, is some kind of portable memory, such as some survival info sheets or pamphlet, because under the stree of a survival situation you or if you have become a casualty for whatever reason, another person with you might be able to use your gear to effect survival or rescue. Since a kit such as this is limited the main goal should be to be rescued ASAP!! I think the blade choices are fine. I think I would feel very confident with a kit such as this. Sorry to ramble, but great video!! One other thing that I forgot is a sheet of, at least 3ft of aluminum foil folded up in the pouch where the mylar sheet it is, as it can be used for many things as well.
Always a great video, Dan. Thank you. :) My knife of choice is the Swiss Tech Stahlern. It's $40 at Walmart. The knife is excellent. The sheath is crap but I'm buying a different, and much better, sheath for it come pay day.
I agree with your bottle choice… have a couple of them myself… i was using the maxpedition bottle pouch, but the Orca you have is much more versatile… so i ordered one… you should consider some affiliate links so we could order through your channel… and you could sock a little coin back for your effort…. Thanks again, Dan
My main water bottle kit has this pouch. The bottom area holds an alcohol stove and stand, with a book of matches. Imho it must have a filter straw (I like the Survivor Filter best) and purification tabs. I also keep a bandana, 1/2”x5” ferro rod wrapped in jute twine, nesting cup and lid, a Mora Eldris, a glow stick, and of course a small bottle of denatured alcohol for the stove. Some of my bottle kits have a tea ball. Some have a silcock key.
Bravo! Well done Sir. I have seen so many "kits" and most of them are garbage and have so many useless items in them. I recently was talking with someone who was pushing a "Hunting Survival Kit" and to say it was lack luster is an understatement. I was going to make a "Hunting Survival Kit" of my own very similar to this one you made, but I haven't been able to do so yet. I will in the near future and will share it with you.
Looking forward to hearing what you put in it. Unfortunately a lot of survival kits are both made and promoted by people who have never even been in the woods.
I Always include a folding saw, like the silky pocket boy or bahco just make sense to me. I have the condor water bottle carrier and I have a mora companion, and a drum liner/ large trash bag 3 to 6 mil. Frerro rod 1/2 5 in with striker stainless steel water bottle( single wall ) 100 ft of # 36 bank line. Also have bottle of water purification tablets and a Sawyer mini water filter few other things. We just need to convince people to carry one someday they may need it great video
I had the same idea a while ago. It has a Mora Garberg. Maxpedition dump pouch, ferro rod, stormproof matches, a Silky pocketboy 130, a couple pieces of fatwood, bottle, nesting cup, and a little bit of type 1 paracord.
Great video, I thought of doing the same thing. I assume you'll put clean water in the water bottle, but if you need another source of it I didn't see any other way to purify it except to boil it. Maybe another way?
New subscriber here ( enjoying the channel) I have the Geo Grayl with SS cup from Pathfinder , will this setup fit in that bottle holder ? And if not does anyone know of one that will hold this press and cup ?! Thanks!
The Bottle Carrier by Centerline Systems (along with The Mother) fits The Grayl. Plus if you add the padded strap wrap, you can wind up 50’ of cordage along with a 5 L Sea To Summit Silnylon dry bag and a Suunto wrist compass. Ask me how I know… 😂) I attached a Wilderness innovations poncho plus Sea To Summit bug net , some cordage, gum blanket & Ti stakes in a matching roll bag onto the strap and along with all of the other gear I fit in the pouches of the carrier, I’ve been able to camp out for 2 nights with nothing but my H2O kit. I agree with Dan in that a H2O Carrier carried daily is something to never be without.
@@Bosher_Bushcraft yes, thank you! Every summer when fire season is declared and all the restrictions are in place, I don't do as many videos. Especially if the woods are full of campers around 4ty of July. We had one major fire in Lapine and a couple smaller ones near by.
Just saying what everyone who views your videos know is that many of those items are pocket EDC items, even if someone does not have a bottle bag. This would surely leave much more room for possibly a little larger tarp. and possibly a snack or two.
Absolutely. In my years of teaching I have the most difficult thing to get people to do is just take your kit with you. Whether it be EDC, vehicle, pack, etc.
@@ochocobushcraft1742I feel your pain. I have trouble getting friends to carry an extra layer of clothing (like a sweater) for weather changes.
