      Both.
Your icon should appear as it is pretty unique but it should not come always as it might also distract viewers.

    Great video! Nonetheless, some notes:
    1. Leopold II was Joseph II's brother, not son
    2. Not all Vonckists accepted Austrian rule again, and some would flee to France where they formed a committee dedicaded to restoring Belgian independence. Before later assimilating into the Jacobin (mostly the Girondin faction) clubs after the French annexation
    3. The Statists were actually prepared to compromise with the Austrians, even offering to make Charles Habsburg (Leopold II's third son) grand duke of Belgium in exhange for maintaining Belgian independence, which the Austrians rejected
    4. The Statists' ideology was a bit more complex than just wanting to maintain privileges, they more so wanted to broadly maintain the old order. Not just limited to aristocratic and clerical privileges, but also the privileges of the provinces, merchants, and so on.
    5. Many of the Belgian patriots (both Statists and Vonckists) actually wanted outright unification with the Dutch Republic, both for romantic reasons and because it was believed that an independent Belgium likely could not survive on its own.
This however doesn't mean they weren't Belgian patriots either. They were both Belgian and Lownandic patriots. You could kind of compare it to how during Imperial Germany, Prussian and German patriotism were both promoted rather than necessarily conflicting.
    6. It's actually not really accurate to portray all of Flanders as Vonckist. While Flanders was the most Vonckist of all the provinces, it still had a HUGE Statist faction as well, perhaps even outnumbering the Vonckists.
    7. I feel like you missed a chance to mention Jean-André van der Mersch, the revolution's main general who was often called the 'Belgian Washington' at the time.

Great video. I absolutely love videos about revolutions in the age of enlightenment and the history of the 18th century.

Well that goes for history too

If Belgium remained alive after this revolution they might have become a major power nowdays

Belgium remained alive, and now houses the NATO and EU in Brussels, the president of the EU is Belgian, Ursula Vonderleyen, is Belgian, i think they still are alive thus, not really to be proud of, but it still is there.. Not to forget their colonial past during the reign of Leopold who ruled ruthlessly over colonies in Africa , naming the democratic republic of Congo nowadays. Again certainly nothing to be proud of!!

its fascinating to think that Belgium used to be republic at one point and in 2:54 its interesting that belgium used this particular tricolor flag and just switched and change the colors to the flag we know of belgiums flag but i have to ask why would belgium use the tricolor? did it had meaning on it? and was belgium inspired by the german tricolor and switched the colors or is it just a coincidence that they used that particular tricolor

    • @italianpc4119

I read that the origins of the Cockade that gave rise to the Belgian flag used the colors of Brabant (black and yellow) plus the Red for the blood of the revolutionaries. As for the similarly with the German one, I suppose it was a coincidence, since the german one was in a different order and had a different meaning. The reason the stripes on Belgium's flag are vertical instead of horizontal though, is indeed because of inspiration from the french

I have heard that the similarity of Belgian and German flag is just a coincidence
German flag was actually made at basically the same time as the Belgian one

I have heard that the name Belgium comes from the name of the Germanic Tribe living in this region called "Belgia" by the Romans, I don't know much more about this, I only heard it once and it stuck with me, Is this true? If then, It makes Belgian history feel much more alive.
Belgian politics is too much to deal with, It's too confusing for me.
There's a Belgian saying that goes "If you understood anything about Belgium, we explained it wrong"
And "If you can lead Belgium, you can lead the EU"
