Around two hundred homes in one neighborhood southwest of Fort Meyers along Summerlin Road are flooded. Residents were going back and salvaging what they could. One resident tells me the water mark was way up her walls and there is now thick mud everywhere. She has lost everything and doesn’t even know where she’s going next. Included several sots after video and name and spelling at end of vid.
I am 65 years old I have lived in Florida my whole life my first hurricane was Donna in the '60s I was 7 years old since then I've been in several more including Ian. When I was a child you could drive down the coastline and see the beach for miles and miles now I drive down the coastline I can't even see the water because we have overbuilt like there would never be a tragedy we've sold people a false dream. Florida's beautiful and yes it's tropical and yes it has hurricanes and yes if you build on the coastline this is what happens wake up and be a realistic person stop building a block from the water
Well said. People have caused more destruction in this state than any storm ever has.
Brandon, don't tell the truth! The snowbirds who came to find Shangri-La in Florida will be disappointed.
the end of the system
I agree.
To add, over development lead to destruction of mangrove forest which keeps these storm surges away from the coast and stabilize it.
Thank you for not putting music on your videos. The silence is much more powerful.
I'm so so sorry. My heart breaks for you. I know what you feel - my home was destroyed in Katrina.
Fake
The devastation of Katrina was horrible, thanks for sharing you lose. 3 of my family members lost homes in Florida after Ivan..
Que se puede esperar con esas casas que parecen portables. Teniendo tal riesgo debería haber mejor construcción.
Praying for everyone affected 🙏😢
To who?
Certainly not to the god who is responsible.
@@jerrycallender9927 😡Loser
@@jerrycallender9927 exactly. I guess the prayers being made ahead of the storm to keep it away from landfall were ignored. Oh wait, I forgot that the devil did this. My bad.
As native from Miami it’s sad to see all the suffering our fellow west coast Floridians are going through. Can’t even Imagine the scale of destruction if that hurricane would entered Florida south from the keys. I’ve lived through many hurricanes in just the 22 years of my life and I never wish to experience what happened to these people
We don't care where you're from. Tmi you're fake
Is there any safe place in Florida to live??
@@eckankar7756 I lived in Fl my entire life(35) I lived in south florida for most of it. I am in Jacksonville now, been here for 8 years, and I have yet to experience anything like I did when I lived in west palm.
@@eckankar7756 there is high ground in Florida, but those areas shown were built long before elevations were raised to current codes.
It was absolutely the worst day and night of my life. We will never stay again. The hurricane was headed to Tampa then to Sarasota which is about an hour north of me and then to Venice and then fort Myers. I heard that at 2pm the day before the hurricane. At that point in time pretty much only option is a shelter and with 5 pets really hard to do.
Thank God my area was spared the surge! House is good for the most part. Roof is a yr old so it's good. We're watching shingles fly all around. A solar panel hit my house. Winds were well over 100 miles per hour. We were in extreme wind warnings from 1245 pm until 840 pm. Scariest day of my life. I will never stay again.
Excellent job shooting this video 👍🏾👍🏾
🙏🏾 Praying for all those families.
My parents home is in the opening shot and the initial passovers thru the park. Thanks for putting this up so we can see the impact and try to plan accordingly. Thankfully, they are safe as they had not yet returned for the season. Hearts out for all of those who are displaced in this awful mess.
Was that thunderbird park off San Carlos?

Gives a whole new meaning to living next to the beach. Im sorry to everyone effected by this storm. 😔 I could never live in Florida for this very reason. I'd be afraid to step on an alligator 😬

I lived in Broward County for over 30 years. I was there when Wilma hit us dead on. My friend and I got really lucky. I was living in a mobile home, so I stayed at my friend's house in Coral Springs. I was looking out her bedroom window, which overlooked a field of trees. One tree uprooted and fell on the next. Then there was the domino effect, as ALL the trees uprooted.
The next morning when we got the all clear, I went outside and looked at the parking lot. 13 cars in a row had their back windshields smashed in. Not a scratch on Arlene's car. I went inside and woke her up. "Arlene, nothing but God just saved your car." She looked around and said, "Sharon, where's your car?" I pointed further down, but we couldn't see it. We walked down to my car. A huge 30 foot oak tree uprooted and landed between my car and another car. All the branches were behind my car, touching the tires, so I was trapped. But at least my car wasn't smashed.
Back at my mobile home park. My neighbor's tree fell on top of his trailer. Down the road three trailers flipped upside down and landed in the canal.
I had a broken window and lost all the skirting. The manager of my park replaced it for free. Arlene's dad fixed my window for me.
My mom used to live in Everglade Lakes mobile home park, but she moved six months earlier. Tornados went through, destroying 4000 trailers. My mom's friend and neighbors trailer was destroyed. They had evacuated, but they returned to find a pile of debris. Her friend's husband literally had a heart attack on the spot and was rushed to the hospital.
Great video footage! If you look at each mobile home, they all have damage besides sitting in water; some more than others but all have damage of some sort. Wow 🥺 Hurricane Ian was and is no joke.
Sending love and light to all involved
I pray for all the abandoned, abused and stray animals that humans neglected.
Tables are Turning ! 🙏
Living in a tin can in the tropics is like living with a ticking time bomb in your house, it's just a matter of time until nature blows it away and or floods it. Living up off the ground near the coast is a must if you don't want everything to get wet some day and building a house the proper way, CBS, with concrete and hipped roofs with concrete tiles will prevent the need for expensive repairs, losses or even buying insurance every year. Build, rent of buy a solid structure as your insurance, or roll the dice like so many chose to do. It is a choice. From drone videos, you can easily see which structures were built for the tropics and which ones were "temporary" structures. Same story every storm.
May God give these people strength.
Devastating. Some of these images and videos have taken my breath away, and not in a good way.
Super fake
My town, Bay St Louis, Mississippi had over 32feet of surge from Katrina. Debris piles were 40 feet high. Our tiny county lost 260 plus. They all stayed in their homes to stop looters. There was no home left to loot. Or owners....some bodies have never been found.
We rebuilt BUT...most middle class and working families could NOT afford to rebuild with a new building code (actually our county adopted Miami-Dade, most strict hurricane code), extremely high wind insurance, flood insurance, regular insurance, prop taxes, insurance companies fighting its customers to this day (17 years). I see miles of mobile homes in SW FL raised 4 or 5 feet. They won't allow those anymore, I guarantee. I am so sorry to see the flood levels there. I will light candles tonight to help light your way.
PS I would not walk in too much water without protection, especially children or immunocompromised folks. Sewage, chemicals, gas, toxic bacteria and othr coliforms are in that.
Peace.
Prayers for all.
We are a survivor of the May 3rd 1999 F5 tornado, we rebuild because it’s our home our place
Most of these huge mobile home communities are retired people that spend the winters in FL and the summers up north.
I sure do wish you would identify what mobile park this is. My 85 yr old parents have a place at the Tropicana.
This is Sunshine Mobile Home Village
This is what you sign up for when you move to Fla. I lived there 13 years and went through Five Hurricanes. But I was Smart enough to Leave four years ago!
It's just miles and miles and miles of flooded homes. I have never seen anything like it prayers for everyone!

Hello how are you doing?
Did all those trailers at that park get water inside them? That's a huge amount of trailers. This woman in red rented an apartments for 29 years? She could have bought a house ages ago cheap in a less risky flood zone area. Shame. I guess live in apartments on the second floor in Florida. Wow, I bet there are more areas like what is shown here. So sorry for those people. It's not like it's a surprise, it's not like IF a hurricane tears Florida up, it's WHEN will the next one be?
In Saint Petersburg and Tampa still Allowed to build Multi story apartments with wood frame

Was this along Iona Rd? Our family has friends in this area, but I don’t think this was the exact part where their house is.

Is it just me. Or do I see lots of places are now waterfront docking properties?
That is what Florida is supposed to look like, hopefully they let it return to nature
I can't imagine why anyone would want too rebuild here. It will only get destroyed by the next hurricane that rolls through Florida. This is only the beginning. It will get much worse.
I moved from Florida … I keep my cold beautiful forest in Virginia
Boy I hope she had renters insurance. Folks get renters insurance if you rent, it’s so Afordable and worth every penny!

How can I help Michele Reidy? I’d like her to contact me so I can help her and her family and 2 cats have shelter for a few days.
Maybe try Facebook. How kind of you
God bless your caring, giving heart.
I've lived in Florida all my life, I've seen this destruction many times. This is very sad. I still don't understand why people build so close to the coast. I wish insurance companies would give those that don't build on coast an insurance discount but instead these companies will just hike up everyone's rates. So we all will pay for this destruction. I pray for all to find some peace in this disaster.
I say the same thing, don't build where there could be significant loss!
That's how insurance works.
I always wonder the same why would you own a home so close to the beach. I get it, having a beach side property is everyone's dream but the risk is too high.
People want to move to/live in Florida but can't afford housing in the less flood prone areas...so builders build homes/push people to nature's natural buffer to hurricanes which is marshland/everglade areas.
Those areas all intended to flood. It's the housing that was never intended to be there
Same thing happened during that Texas hurricane a few years back.
I would at least build a house on stilts, you know what I mean, up where the bottom part is just parking.

When the Mayor tells you to evacuate, please evacuate. Keep money saved up so you can go to a hotel somewhere else or stay with out of town relatives during emergencies. It comes with the territory. Living in Florida, you may have to evacuate sometimes. Have a plan ready ahead of time.

@@nickey4god75 Ever been to Florida? Trailer parks near the water are a foolish thing. I have been through too many hurricanes to remember starting with Andrew in '92. It was always these people that had flimsy trailers and / or those that build on the water. So, I am a person that speaks from experience. God gave me a vision and I saw God wielding an Axe devastating Man/USA and God told me to command disasters on d USA until compensation paid as his Hand will fight for me against d USA. I had met an accident in Houston, Texas in which hearsts runaway 18-wheeler flew over d road to hit my car injuring me severely. . America then sent 4 kkk to brutalise, terrorise and made 9 attempts to kill me secretly. They also jailed me arbitrarily and then framed 3 false charges to lock me up again. This was why God was very angry with the USA. USA fulfilled d prophecy of Obadiah to break d eternal covenant of brotherly love made with God thru d shed blood of Jesus Christ. D covenant requires d blood of Ephraim (USA & western nations of d cross) to be shed. It's d nature of blood covenant. My experience indicates that America is a very dirty , merciless and unjust nation. They refused to correct d injustices since 1989 and my life was totally ruined since 1989. I am wondering why Americans refused to heed Micah 6:8. Americans don't seem to trust in God. Is it just words and not from their hearts when they mentioned God?

This is what I was worried about the most. People that were trying to survive the best way they could already , then this happens and for people that were living in trailers. It should be a law in Florida....if they live in a trailer they should either make them evacuate or the government should pay to put these trailers up higher incase of floods. I know the wind can damage them too, but if they could keep the water out... they just might have a chance of saving their homes. God bless them. I've been praying for them the most. I know it's God's will for whatever reason, but it's hard to watch people's lives turned upside down like this. 🥺😥🙏🙏🙏🙏 I tried not to worry and tell myself just have faith. God has a plan for these poor folks. We are only here for a short time, then we all go back home.
This is not God's will. He is not a cruel God. It is the stupid people who wanted to live near the ocean and this is their fault only. Nature did this not God and you have to take the consequence. I feel bad about the Sanibel Causeway. No way on or off Sanibel. A 15 year old Causeway should have been designed for hurricanes. The people who built this are at fault.
all I hear , are future mosquitoes & the noise is unsettling!
Keep the government out of it. Seniors move there because of climate and ranch or trailer less expensive living.
It is a law to evacuate if you are in a trailer in designated areas
the government should pay for it., what a ridiculous statement. The government doesn’t pay for anything we the people pay for everything.
My God 🙏 for this people. This reminds me of Andrew I went through Andrew when I was 21 years old I'm now and those feelings never went away cuz we lost everything I pray for these people.
I saw the aftermath- horrible.
I drove a rental from the airport to Stuart Island during Andrew and I have never been more terrified in my life. You couldn't tell the edge of the highway from the ocean it was coming over the side. I had to really concentrate on keeping the car in lane. I got off at the nearest exit and fortunately there was a GM dealership (I was working for GM) as I came up and they kinda took me in until it was safe for me to reach my destination. I am from Michigan and was there for a meeting. I was never so relieved when I made it to the hotel. My family was so worried. Been to Florida several times on business but I never liked it. Never saw what all the fuss was about. Don't really like the weather. Great food though!
Prayers for those who have suffered loss. This is, in large part, why I moved away from the coast. I've been through hurricanes in Texas, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, and even Massachusetts. Never again.
yes....I'll never forget the stench after the water recedes!
Fake. You could have done that privately but I guess you want point. Fake your god knows you're evil
Temporarily these people will have to be moved to areas for safety that can take them, later mass trailers will be brought in for these people to relocate to until insurance companies can assess the damage or livability of living there. My grandmother lost her home during Katrina so it is unfortunate but they can rebuild slowly back to a community.
Depending on the damage to the floor line some homes will be repaired . Others will be removed and new homes put in . This was a 100 year storm someone posted . I’m going to get more info and check in 6 months to see the progress .

We need to focus on the assignment. Many of us are literally one medical, physical m, or natural disaster from being in her shoes… everyone’s disaster look different.
🙏🏽 bless her that she is holding up so well. I am praying for all who have lost as well as those who will pour into rebuilding and helping these families.
Hello how are you doing?
This makes me so sad especially since Ian was projected to hit Pinellas County where I live. It shifted and came in further south and made its way NE after that. This could have been us! These poor dear people. God be with them!
and NONE of those buildings, can't ever be occupied again ! watch-out for the gators & snakes in that swamp water !
That also is false. These trailers & mhs will be repaired & lived in again. Clearly not all but most
@@salty-tomato ; it will cost more to sanitize them of black mold than just buying new ones !
Omg this is so sad. Never seen such damage in Florida.. Im in tears ,still want to retire here.. Prayers to all be safe🙏🙏❤🙏🙏

Dont be near the coast
As a Floridian it breaks my heart ❤️ to know millions of Floridians are hurting 😞
I am not even Floridian but just seeing this from afar breaks my heart. I don’t even know what I would do if I lost everything. I wish everyone the best in the recovery and rebuilding process
This is heartbreaking 💔
