I was on the outer fringes of the storm about 30 miles Southeast of Tampa. Didn't get much other than moderate wind gusts and very little rain overall. The power stayed on throughout, but I went through another hurricane years ago when we lost power for five days, no fun at all. I feel your pain, good luck with getting your power back soon.
I was going to say this. We lived in Ft Myers, FL for 8 years, but moved to Winston-Salem, NC a little over a year ago. I just told my wife I can’t believe how FAST she’s traveling. I was figuring a couple/few DAYS before she started hitting up here. Where we currently are is blue & sunny skies, 85-degrees. But, it’s wired bc 1.5 hours west in Bristol it’s flooded, & just east of us on Asheville is flooded. No kore rain in the forecast for US till Sunday. But, yeah. He travel speed is like I’ve never seen before. Had she been SLOWER? Down south would’ve been screwed badly. But, it does hurt more further up north bc of how fast she’s moving. Places like Bristol & Asheville aren’t ready for this type of storm & flooding.
And how weak it was, it moved directly over where i live, the wind took some leaves and small branches from the trees and made the wind chimes do alittle more work than they've done in a while, but thats about its lol
RIP to those who have lost their lives! Should change the state motto from "The Sunshine state" to "The Hurricane state" since Florida has the highest rate of hurricanes, year after year, decade after decades! If it's mandatory to evacuate do so, get out! Staying behind is foolish because once you're in trouble like they say, they can't help you or get to you until it's too late and the storm has passed! These hurricanes/tornadoes are going to get worst due to climate change and rising sea levels, more rain, flooding per scientists/meteorologists! Pay heed!
My mom said she wants to move to places like Florida and Galveston, but isn’t that where high water goes and houses aren’t even 2 stories? 😮 So not safe 😔
If you move down near Palm Bay or in an area close to that, it never gets hit by hurricanes too bad most the time and I’ve lived around that area for years on and off.
If this storm moved even 15% slower my parents house and the cars there wouldve been done for. Luckily the tree that did fall barely touched the house !
Storms like this were almost unheard of 20 years ago. These once-in-a-lifetime events that keep happening aren’t regular at all. Let’s not normalize this.

This storm was very weird. Here in Tallahassee we were only about 20 miles from the eye but our winds never got above 70mph and the rain was heavy but not inordinately so. As a result we had very little damage while other parts of the state that were not considered “in the path” were hit very very hard. It seems that we need to improve how we predict what areas will be hardest hit. We got about the same storm intensity as Gainesville.
Hurricane season in Florida…nothing like it. My wife’s sister used to live there….and would evacuate north two or three times every year. We visited…but decided not to move there.
I'm in South Central Kentucky and though we're getting constant rain, we're not getting the downpour that we tend to get. This kind of stuff my driveway can handle. Rain all day is okay. It's a sudden daily for 15 minutes that really washes stuff out. We've had a lot of that the last year but this isn't that at all. Same thing with the wind. It's been going on for a while, but I'd rather have moderate wind all day than massive wind for an hour.
