Here's a quick how to do it yourself install of the AEV Brute Roof Rack on the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JKU in the Autoedit Garage.
This install is fairly straight forward but will take a bit of time to get it right, so pay attention! The rack looks great and is super strong so I will be able to put a roof top tent up there with confidence. - Авто та транспорт
This thing just keeps getting better and better. Can't wait for the next one
Thanks, me too!
Your setup is looking better and better by the minute! Can't wait to see where you take it next. Thanks for sharing! I'm still very new in my JK journey but you make the future seem super exciting. All the thumbs up!
just bought a 4 door JK. I've watched your videos from early on, really enjoy them. good source of inspiration
I like how you respond to everyone's comments! Small details like that make you a great UA-camr !
Well, it's easy when you have a bunch of other great UA-camrs saying nice things and showing support!
My favorite channel now. You are turning your rig into an overlander. So cool.
I always get so excited when i see you uploaded a jeep video!!
Awesome!
Love the videos. Found the channel about a year ago, have been following along on the jeep build. Went back in the last few days and binged the large Marge videos. Can't wait for an update on that one soon.
Thanks for the gentle nudge back to Ol' Marge... more is coming!
You sir are amazing, keep those videos coming, we love how the jeep is coming along!
So glad to see you got a tent!!! Can't wait for those videos!!!
Just say my first vid you made, when you changed the suspention...man, what a great vid! You deserv way more subs!!! Now i need to go back and watch them all :o) Keep up the good work! You really seem like a nice and great guy!
Greetings from sweden!
I'd be scared to drill into a hard top. That's why I ditched it for the Bestop Trektop Pro. No regrets. Although finding a roof rack that's looks good is a little more difficult now. Keep doing these videos! I slam the like button every time. 👍
You rule! Thanks so much... Yeah it was a little nerve racking to drill but I saw one on a friends Jeep and he's had it on for years with no problem at all.
Very nice build so far bro. Great looking rig. And quality install vids. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, I'll keep them going as fast as I can.
Great information and outstanding production quality! Your Jeep is getting better all the time!
Thanks a ton! That's the plan...one improvement after another!
I can't wait to see this tent install!
Yes, should be interesting.
Man you always have the best how to videos! Loving those wheels! I might have to copy you!
nice quality to everything you have put on .I really like that rear bumper and tire carrier
Love this build so far
Your jeep looks amazing with the hard top off 👌🏻
Great video as always. Really enjoying watching this Jeep turn into a monster build video by video.
Awesome to hear. It's interesting even for me to go back into the older videos and see the difference!
Love your jeep man! Always looking forward to your next video.
Thanks for sticking around!
Video so quick after the last awesome!! Nice drone shots
I love jeeps and the aftermarket is huge and keep up the great work
Yes, it is refreshing to have an almost unlimited supply of gizmos from the aftermarket that go right on this thing!
Wasn't thrilled to see you having to drill through the hardtop, but it looks worth it. Can't wait to see the camping videos.
Me too!
awesome awesome videos. you deserve so many more subscribers and at this rate im sure you will get them soon enough!
Thanks so much... I hope to grow this thing for real!
Nice Jeep! Love the videos man. Keep'em coming.
Thanks I'll keep trying!
Whats up Jason ! In some of your previous build up video's you were asking what kind off good upgrades you could do to your jeep.. Well, seing that you did some nice offroad videos with the sunset I would think that some better headlights, fog lights and maybe 1 or 2 light bars would be kinda cool to add !
If I can, I would recommend some JW Speaker LED headlight, tail lights and fog lights, there's nothing better for these ! For some real good quality and nice looking light bars, RIgid have some good stuff but as you know there is tons of companies out there right now with good quality products ! I really like the small hood light bar and the small one that you can also add to some of your bumper brackets. The 50inch curved roof light bar also gives the jeep a really good look !
If your into all these goodies you might want to think about adding an sPOD under the hood to make all the hook ups easy with a good rocker pannel in the jeep (I recommend a mid roof pannel!)
I also think that if you will be taking this jeep to work or offorad, You should defenetly add an ARB compressor ! now that's a must !
Alright, let me know what ya think ! Keep up the good work and show us what your up to soon !
(sorry for my english.. french canadian from qc :P )
keep it up man very informative and knowledgeable as always.
Yeah buddy! Thank you
cant wait till mines starts looking this good.
One thing at a time!
I do too. Nice Job Jason.
I just installed the Rhino Rack Backbone. It's very similar. Your rack looks great! Keep up the good work. Let me know if you're ever out in WV.
Came for the roof rack, stayed for the Pinto!!!
Aw...thanks... Pinto appreciates it as well!
that special helper is the bomb!
+Bruce Ticknor You betcha!
Should really do what i did to the interior of my hard top...spray paint with black bed liner...its amazing and covers up all those unsightly marks that happen so easily on a white interior! Great Videos!
Terry Haddon Nice tip, thanks!
Sweet build
The rack looks awesome, well done! I enjoy going topless too much to take that plunge, I would like to find one that was easy to take off and on, yet maintain the strength of the roll cage supports.
mmmhhhmm. That thing is looking mean man! Great work on the videos!
Nocturane Thanks!
I would probably paint the rack flat black. Keep up the good vids!
this jeep is turning out to be a bad ass rig all the upgrades are great keep on making videos also what is going on with the mustang I really loved that car.
Thanks Joe! I'm just getting the Jeep to a good spot and then digging back in on the Mustang.
autoedit you should do a huge lighting kit install. That would look sick.
jeep videos are awesome but i cant wait for more of your mustang build!
Thank you for your patience, the Mustang stuff will be coming soon!
You'll be coming to EJS '17 I hope! You've got a lot of fans.
At this point I think I am scheduled to shoot a bunch of videos at EJS... never know with the people at my work though.
Oh yeah, filming for Fred and the crew? It sounds like you'll have a work truck rather than your own rig.
Great video. Your content is awesome!
More to come...hopefully!
great video
dude living the jeep dream. love this build so much and like the overland direction it's taking!
How is the wind noise? I had a gobi on my last Jeep and it was loud. Your videos are the best, thank you!! BTW I got a black Jeep Rubicon because of you, MetalCloak lift on order!
Great to hear from you! The wind noise is noticeable but not intrusive. I have been using the rack less lately and may try TrailRax system which mounts on the sides... looks pretty cool. Check them out instagram.com/trailraxofficial/
my saturday just got better yo
Awesome!
Love it!
I really want one of these! Some day.
Yes you do!
I'm getting so jelly of this rig
Drone action!!! Well done jason. What drone do you have?
That was with an Inspire that I use for work... had to drain a couple of batteries before taking them on a plane so I thought I would have some fun with it.
Really Nice build so far, what's the bike ive saw?
How is the removal of the hardtop with the rack? I've read the blurb that it's not meant for those who frequently remove the hard top. But let's face it, taking the top of the jeep is a huge reason why we all bought one.
Thanks for your videos man. Your channel is awesome.
You simply remove the 8 bolts that hold the rack mounting pads in place and the whole thing lifts off. Maybe 5 or 10 minutes worth of effort... not a big deal considering the strength of this thing.
Thanks for watching!
Bad ass Jeep!! You have very similar taste to me.
You should take your Jeep to the next SEMA show :-)
New to your channel.. Great videos.. I'm just curious, if you had a 2 door Jk, what rack would you choose?
I would still go with the AEV just the 2dr version for sure.
new wheels👍
It's a nice detail to the jeep but I don't wanna drill holes into my hard top are there any other roof racks like this one that are strong that can hold a lot of heavy weight on top of it?
Great video, when will more videos of the truck be coming?
I've got a few more things on the Jeep and then a few on the Mustang scheduled... then find an engine for that poor truck!
I wonder if there's any roof tents that are as wide as the jeep but can be open to the back so the roof can also a shade .
Dude i beg you to powder coat those sheet metal wheel wells over the front tires ,your jeep would look so much better. Grate video by the way!
Hey Jason with regards to suspension upgrades was there any thought with installing heavier springs to account for the additional expedition weight???
way cool, thanks for sharing
For sure!
hey jason, i am getting ready to put this rack on, and was wondering uf you had any tips when mounting the brackets and alignment..? i have the rack put together, but have been putting off the actual drill and install of the brackets.. any tips will be much appreciated!! thanks in advance and love the channel
I'm trying to remember... I think the key is to follow the directions EXACTLY and measure then measure again. Take your time and it'll be great.
thank you for the tip!!lol i will let you know how it went!!
Jason, I been toiling over racks. I think I have narrowed it down to 2. Any leakage issues? How's the wind noise? Any issues with accessories mounting to the rack?
Last question, since this is an install/review video, I thinks it fair to know if you were given the rack to review (paid endorser) or if you bought it and did the review on your own?
Thanks. Jeep is looking good. 👍🏻
I like the rack a lot. It's been on for months now and there are no leaks and the wind noise is completely acceptable. I have not put a roof top tent up there yet but will soon and do a video on that as well.
Jason, I have the Hothead headlines in my jeep, do you think the bolts are long enough to account for about a 1/4" of materail to compress? Thanks.
Yes, I think you would be fine. Worst case... could you cut the headliner just in those areas?
Great video, as usual. But please get a stronger helper when installing your roof tent. No need to crush anyone 😉
LOL! solid advice
Out of curiosity was was your thought process with going with the brute rather than a soft top friendly roof rack? No soft top plans?
Josh Davis Yeah, living in LA feels like a bad place for a soft top. Already had a smash and grab on the Jeep
Ah right that makes sense.
that roof rack looks classy. .the only down side to me is if i want the top of is like forget it..that thing is on there. too much work to get it on and of i think is to stay there..
Are you going to add the rail attachment to this rack? It's like $300 more, but will help keep things in-place.
Hey man was just circling back to this video. Question, do you know any roof racks that don't extend over the freedom panels? I wanna use a best top and the hardtop with a roof rack
I can still remove the freedom panels with this rack on there!
I see that, but I want to be able to run a retractable soft top for the front freedom panels, and have the roof rack!
what made you choose this top over rhino? the rhino is 72x56 what does the aev measure? nice build
How does it do at highway speeds? Any buffeting? Looks like it will act like a sail.
Jason, are you concerned with water leakage? I don't know if I could bring myself to drill into the top.
alpha kilo The foam tape should take care of it but I'll do a video as time goes on.
alpha kilo you could pick up some rubber rings - they would wrap around the bolt and seal them when tightened.
Or, run a bead of silicone around the holes prior to install.
Hi Jason was wondering what the load rating for the roof rack is? thanks
Do you know how much weight it can hold? I dont see it listed on AEV's site
Nice
@autoedit How does the roof rack work WITHOUT the hard top? or is it required? If you ever used it without the top on and have pictures that would be awesome to see them. Thank you.
You can take the top off and put the rack on the brackets that mount on the roll bar.
Would you ever return to Viper in maverick again? :) i know you drop it but would have been funny
Noswolf kop I'm sad about that one
Jason,
We are heading out to Borrego Springs in two weeks if you are interested
Thanks, I've been meaning to email you but work has me constantly traveling right now. I'm not sure but I have to get ready for Easter Jeep Safari and have a couple of work trips even before that. We will connect after that for sure!
autoedit No Worries. Just keep me in mind. I also plan on heading to Joshua Tree and up 395.
Whenever I see people with racks like this or the Front Runner models I kinda start to wonder if I made a bad choice getting a Gobi rack. It's heavy, it's cumbersome (though I kinda like the look), and it's quite complicated. However, if I don't like it I can just take it off pretty easily without very much if any permanent effects. Why didn't you choose something like the Gobi Rack?
What is the fuel capacity for this jeep?
Are you considering a larger fuel tank capacity upgrade?
So now are you going to have to unbolt the rack if you ever want to take your hardtop off?
Bryant Lopez Roman Big whoop, 8 bolts!
where did you get that roof rack! i've been looking for one for months now!!
MinecraftApolo Link is in the description
Nice jeep. Wheres the old third gen camaro?
Jason, how is the wind noise with the roof rack on the highway?
Nice jeep! So I bought a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, I want to know what are some good tires for 37" with good suspension/ lift kit. Nothing to expensive, but something that would last. Thanks!
Maurice Toledo just remember your going to have to re gear
BKAGOSTO what would be the best to re gear to?
Maurice Toledo ask Jason he re geared and runs 37s. But I know you have to.35 and up have to re gear. I am running 4:56s with 35s
I think auto edit has an video on his re gear.
Apart from functionality....the roof rack gives the jeep quite a good look.....and yes.... the rims too are sick and off the hook..... if i am to buy a jeep....those there my friend..... they have to be my rims.
Are you able to take your hardtop off still? If so, do you have to take the roof rack off as well?
Well yes you have to take the rack off to remove the hardtop.
Where did you get the “can and tire mount?” What’s in the green can? Extra gas or water? How do you like that set up? Thank You in advance
Those are called Cam cans from daystar and the spare tire mount had a tab to mount them. There are a lot of options when you go to check them out.
@@AutoEdits thank You
So to take off the top, now you have to unscrew the brackets from the inside? Won’t that loosen the rack off the top? I don’t get it. Please help. Thanks.
Yes, the rack comes off with 8 screws and then you take the top off. Then you have the option to put the rack back on without the top.
So you’ll be driving around with the brackets on without the rack? That doesn’t make any sense to me.
How would you take the freedom panels off? Does the rack interfere with them?
The freedom panels come off with no problems.
I'm waiting for either a Ripp supercharger, new axles or a trip with the Jeep jamboree
A supercharger would be rad!
You already have an awesome jeep that would just make the build perfect and your mustang jealous
You could potentially mount the rack with the roof off as well?
TomJunWing Absolutely!
so does this rack take away your ability to take off your top without unbolting from the mounting brackets?
I'm wondering the same thing.
You just take the 8 bolts off from the perches and then remove the roof and then you can bolt the rack back on or leave it off. I kind of committed to just having the top on the Jeep for the time being.
thats what i was thinking based on the way it mounts and i would just keep the top ob too at that point. But the sherpa racks that bolt from the outside of the jeep in the rear bumper moints to the windshield are a good soft top option. if anyone is wanting a rack and maintain function of their soft top
Rhino Rack's Pioneer rack lets you remove the hardtop without having to undo any hardware. AEV sources the rack from them too.
Can you not take the top off anymore?
notification squad
LOL! and thank goodness for ya
are you still running factory steering? tierod linkage and draglink
Derek Derosa Yep
What are the original specifications of your jeep, without any upgrades and all that.
2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, manual transmission
lol ill high five you for those wheels!
What type of tires and rims do you have?
