i have the ez bars with a 23zero rtt, the only thing i did different is i used one of the bars that is supposed to cover the removable tops and put it on under the tent so i have three bars under the rtt. So far been out with it two weeks in west virginia and the extra support of the third bar makes it feel just a bit more solid.
Thank you for taking the time to review the Dee Zee roof rack. I found your explanation of the rack very useful both in terms of whether it might be a useful product for me as well as whether I should consider the creation of my own platform using aluminum extrusion.
Heck yeah! Teaching them how to install and how it works is awesome and fun. I’m always asking the boys for help when working on the Jeep or the off-road trailer so they get the hang of how it all works and hand on install so they get the hang of it when they get ready for there’s when the time comes. 🤙🏻🤙🏻
It’s a blast to wrench with them, but more importantly, like you said, is for them to understand and see how everything works and gets assembled and tightened down, so she can keep an eye on it while out on the trail. See u soon brother!
A year later, how is it? I just bought it, but my question is more for accessories and what I need to mount things like an awning, or adding some storage boxes etc. not so much an RTT yet.
Cool, laid-back video. Always nice to see families do things together, especially with Jeeps.😎🤙 Just recently got the dee zee rack today so thanks for the reference. Cheers, buddy~🍻
Thats good to hear. Do you run the rack above the freedom panels too? And is that where you are putting the wind deflector? I dont see her ever using that front rack, and I'm curious if we should put the wind deflector on the back rack.
@@395jnky You will definitely want to put the wind deflector on whichever bar is on the front. I've run with both the front and back on at once, or just the back. That usually just depends on how much space you need. If you are running the front part of it without the wind deflector, you will hear vibration in your ear drums for a week. It's also a VERY good idea to occasionally shake the bars to be sure the are staying tight. On a real rough road I've had some loosen up a little.
@@nickfelix3157 No. What you are thing of is a "fairing". This rack just has a small "L" shaped bracket that goes on the front most crossbar that prevents insanely loud wind noise.
Was out at Monache meadows last weekend great area safe travels your video that you posted a while back at Monache was great helped me find the campsites 👍
So far so good. After the first trip we noticed some of the bolts were coming loose, so I added some blue locktite and no issues since. She loves it and stands up well to the weight of a RTT! Thanks Deepu
If you’re not going to use the front portion, over the freedom tops, you could use the extra gutter clamps on the main bars, somewhere in the middle. It adds a little added security, and piece of mind. You could add in the extra support feet, when you get them. :)
I haven't done a follow up video yet, but I can tell you my daughter loves it and she hasn't had any issues with it! Great little rack for RTT's that is easy on the wallet!
How has this roof rack held up? Any rusting on the hardware itself? Did you consider some blue loctite on the bolts to keep them from backing out? This is something that's mentioned quite a lot on the JL Wrangler forums for this roof rack, the adding of loctite.
Noted! Next time she goes out I'm thinking of doing a review on the Roof Rack and I'll shoot some footage of the tent on top and attached to the rack. Happy Trails
Hi Pat and Jessica - Thanks for the kind words. And I’m happy to report she just got back from her trip with everything in tact and no issues to report! So far, so good!
I’m glad to hear that. She just got back a few hours ago from her trip and everything held up well. Fingers crossed everything holds up for quite some time! Thx for the comment!
This is an awesome review and definitely helping me out with my decision to get this roof rack. The only thing holding me back is all the wind noise people have reported. What’s your experience so far? Any chance for a video at freeway speeds to hear the noise? Thanks for such a great video!
Hi Nick - We never reinstalled the wind deflector after we moved the bars from over the freedom panel to the rear racks. I asked my daughter about wind noise and she said she didn't hear anything on her trip last weekend. However, I did receive a comment from another subscriber who said he has the same rack and it was real bad for him...So we will likely put it on just in case...Perhaps having the RTT on top of the rack contributed to the noise reduction??
So those small 4 bolts resting on the corners.. were enough to hold a rtt? Whats the weight capacity dynamic and static? Id like to carry kayaks, awning
I don’t remember the recommended dynamic and static weight limits, but I know they are greater than that of the RTT. She still uses that rack all the time to hold her RTT with no issues thus far.
Thanks for the video. I am waiting on my rooftop tent for my F150 super crew and can't find a rack. Will this one work or do you still recommend a rhino? I've been researching dispersed camping for years and finally decided to go scouting.
Personally I like the Rhino Rack, but for my daughter who is on a budget this was a great alternative. I'm not sure if this would work on a F150. But reach out to DeeZee, & perhaps they have something for your truck that would allow it to fit. Take care.
I ended up going with the Rhino Platform 60x54 Rack and having custom tracks installed by Rack Attack in Pasadena. Also just got my Raptor Series Rooftop Tent today! So stoked!!! Going up to Big Bear to scout some yellow post sites first. We aren't ready yet. Got more gear on the way! Never heard of Overlanding before. I just found your channel searching for tents but it's a great way to go Off Grid and Bug Out for Preppers like me too. You are more prepared than I am so kudos to you and your Family!
Hi. I have one of these installed on my JLU - have you found anything to help with the windnoise? I was looking for something to install to just decrease the noise a bit
I know it comes with a wind deflector that is supposed to help. We didn't install it on hers because she doesn't mind the noise. Personally, it would drive me crazy.
Pretty lame of DEE ZEE to claim the amount of weight it holds when it is dependent on fibreglass rain gutters. I too am looking for an easily removable rack. Time and use will tell. Great job teaching Dad!
Yah...I’m a bit nervous and skeptical myself. For what it’s worth, she made it back from her trip a few hours ago and everything is in tact, and nothing became loose. But we will have to see in 6 months or so if there’s any hairline cracks or not. I’m hoping for the best.
@@395jnky I helped design this rack and we have tested the JL Roof at element test labs( they do all of the OEM tests for us and most OEM's) Most of the weight is being handled by the foot that touches off on the roof not the gutter. Hit me up if you need anything.
That’s great to know. You guys nailed it. My daughter loves it and we are all headed out again this weekend to continue to put it to test. So far..so good.. Happy Trails
