Don't put sugar, and use olive oil instead of canola oil. Otherwise good.
The good thing is that there are no preservatives, and it easily costs one-fourth of the store-bought bottled dressing.
I agree! Sugar is stupid in Italian dressing! As is Garlic powder which is 1/2 salt, and Onion. Powder, which is also 1/2 salt!
I did 1 and 1/2 TBS salt / TBL dijon / fresh garlic / teaspoon fresh lemon juice. came out great!
This is really delicious, albeit a tad saltier than I usually make. I added 1/4 t. of red pepper flakes to make it a bit zestier. So tasty! Next time I make the mix, I'll probably use garlic powder instead of garlic salt, or reduce the amount of table salt by half.
Excellent work here! I like how you made the herbs and spices the center of the dressing, and showed us how to make a simple stock of spices, to which we can add the oil, the vinegar and an emulsifier of our choice when we want to make the formal dressing.
Finally! I always wanted to recreate the taste of store bought Italian dressing but always missed the key ingredients. Amazing recipe, thanks!
I made this today to use in a pasta salad rwcipe that calls for italian dressing. Delicious!
I didn't have celery salt so I substituted Lawry's Seasoned Salt because Lawry's is loaded with celery salt. Yummy.
To all of you who are complaining about the amount of salt in the dressing...make it your own way and use the amount of salt you want. It's a recipe for crying out loud. It isn't inscribed in stone from God.
This isn't a season to taste example video. I made this and the amount they used obliterated my salad. I don't blame anyone saying it's too much salt. It just was.
CJ Zanders
Then YOU added too much salt. It isn't the fault of the person who created the recipe.
Sharon Mynes - Omg, how can you be so dense? THEY told you the amounts to use. It's clear and finite. If I'm a lawyer and give you bad legal advice, then IM responsible.
uprite88 then just don't make it that way.... Is it really necessary to name call just bcuz YOU disagree? Some of you UA-camrs really seem to be *MENTALLY UNSTABLE* 🤦🏾♀️ your screen name should be "uptight88" 😂
CJ Zanders then make it your own. Just bcuz you disapprove doesn't make the recipe WRONG. You do know there are others who share the planet with you and have their own style of cooking right????? Lmfaooooooo. All this name-calling & criticism and for what??? An Italian dressing recipe???? Lol😂😂😂. Season it to YOUR OWN TASTE.... SIMPLE. The time you spent comparing this to the legal system and the law, you could've made your own version of this recipe and tweaked it to your own liking😅😂😅😭 HILARIOUS
i think Italian dressing would have Olive Oil not Canola Oil, just saying!
mwaseem also canola oil is banned in europe 😂
@JOE SMITH Olive oil can be purchased in bulk, that's weird.
@JOE SMITH 5 gallons provides a lot however. And olive oil is a clearly superior product for that purpose.
They are cheaping out needlessly for an inferior product.
To use 5 gallons of olive oil would require them to sell thousands of dollars in product.
@JOE SMITH Most restaurants don't charge for dressing. But they tend to give it away proportional to purchases. Like 1 container of dressing per salad, or whatever. If they're generous with dressing and give it away in bulk, that could be an issue of course.
As far as store bought, I do tend to buy the olive oil based ones. Much better
IS ANYONE ELSE CONCERNED ABOUT ALL THAT SALTY PRODUCTS CAN I JUST GET A REAL ITALIAN DRESSING WITH NONE OF THOSE POWDERS AND ONLY WHOLE UNPROCESSED FOODS
Just made this..wonderful recipe!! I used Olive Oil instead of canola!
Glad you liked it!
This recipe is basically Neely's Zesty Italian Dressing from the book, Down Home with the Neelys. They even name the ingredients in the same order as the Neely's recipe! They changed the amount of thyme from 1 tsp, replaced the olive oil with canola and replaced the cajun seasoning with salt!!!! What were they thinking?
Anyway...the Neely's version is incredible as a chicken marinade!
Thank you for your comment. This particular recipe does call for canola oil, but you can certainly use olive oil instead.
1 tbsp garlic salt
1tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp dried oregano
1 tsp ground blac pepper
quarter thyme
1tsp basil
1tsp arsley
quarter celery
2tbsp salt
2 tbsp of mix in quarter cup vinegar, 2/3cup canola, 2 tbsp canola oil
Thank you for your question. Without adding the oil, the dressing mix can be kept in a dark, dry space for a while. Once you add the oil, we would recommend storing it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
I just made this and it turned out ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!! Everything mentioned was INDEED right in my cabinet! I will NEVER BUY Italian dressing again. THANKS ALL RECIPES!!!!!!!
Good for you, Karen.
@Sirharryflash82 aweee.... you sound as tho you tried making this and failed miserably, considering your very negative reply. Maybe when you achieve following such a simple recipe, you can use it to dip the chip on your shoulder....😂
And no. I'm not reading replies beyond this point
@@KAMALAISHERNAME Didn't need to make it. Maybe you can learn to be a human being instead of a miserable Karen. You'll read it. See you next Tuesday!

I added a teaspoon of Lemon juice SOOOO GOOD
I only use two ingredients.
Olive oil and red wine vinegar. If both ingredients are added in the right amount its delicious
Depends on the quality of your two ingredients as to how delicious it will be.
Don't use canola oil, its one of the worst oils. Use avocado or olive oli instead
The ingredients needed starts at 00.37 minutes
sure looks good
i believe that you would need to reduce the salt, remove the sugar and use extra virgin cold pressed olive oil, and this would be healthy. Research what highly processed seed oils and surgar does to you body.
Love this dressing!
Awesome
Why wouldn’t you use olive oil?
Exactly. Olive oil is great for you and Canola is poison. If you are making your own, why would you make it with poison?
Thanks for sharing
IMHO canola oil is not healthy. I use olive oil.
This looks so good.
At 2:12, the narrator states that this recipe is flexible; try different oil, different vinegars, different seasonings. Here's to Freedom of Flexibility!! 😃
Omit the salt and sugar. Use red wine vinegar and cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. Let it stand overnight. Lower the amount of Oregano, too.
can we use extra virgin olive oil instead of canola oil?
Yes, that's a perfect substitute, Safa Rafi. It will have more flavor, too.
Safa Rafi yes
Safa Rafi canola oil dos NOT exist in italian cusine
yeah dude!!!!!!
Please do! Canola is poison.
A lot of salt, and I would not use canola oil at all. However what an awesome post. Thanks.
Or white vinegar
Can I use extra virgin olive oil? Thanx for your response
I rub the dry seasonings on chicken halves and then add the vinegar and olive mix for amazing marinate d grilled chicken.
I can believe they still call italian dressing when you go to Italy try to ask let's see what they will give to you! Guys in Italy they just olive oil vinegar o balsamic salt and pepper very simple no more we don't use all this herbs o garlic
@Billy Conforto 😂😂😂
i like this!
this recipe needs more salt!
joel mcilveen 😂😂😂
Then add MORE EFING SALT
not if you don't like salty dressing it doesn't.

Learn to grasp sarcasm, bro.
I will never use canola oil again. Olive Oil always!
Holy heart attacks! The vinegar gives it plenty of flavor so I think you could cut the salt to one half tablespoon and it would still taste fine.
How long will this keep in the refrigerator once its mixed?
That is a ton of salt! Especially with garlic salt
Yikes...two FULL 👀 tablespoons of salt 😱😱😱
Don't forget the tablespoon of garlic salt! 😬
And some celery salt on top of that!
You have a tablespoon of garlic salt snd two tablespoons of regular salt plus two tablespoons of oregano. Sounds like a salty pizza to me.
Do not use seed oil like canola, the whole teason for making your own is to get away from polunsaturared oils. Use oluve or avocado oil instead
Even Olive oil and avacado oil are an issue. It's only safe if it's COLD PRESSED extra virgin
Otherwise it's safer to just stick with animal derived oils
And even with cold pressed extra virgin you're still not supposed to heat it EVER.
Can you substitute garlic powder instead of garlic salt?
If you substitute please let us know.
That’s what should be. No idea why they want to put ANY salt in this recipe.
I could not get the name of the ingredients if you text it be great, thanks
Could you use yogurt to make it a creamy Italian dressing
You could use mayo and stir or put it in a food processor and emulsify it with an egg added.
WAAAAAAY TO SALTY!!!!!
Italians never ever use canola oil!!! The recipe is okay but use olive oil instead.
The difference between a regular diet and a low sodium (salt ) is only a couple of points (mm Hg) in healthy people.
I have had HBP for 27 years now and I am only allowed 2,000 mg. Salt/Sodium per day,, or up to 2,400 mg. but my recommendation is 2,000 mg. Also I would have to eliminate or substitute the sugar being a diabetic as well!!! But I can live with that,, this sounds great!!! ❤
The salt is ridiculous. Canola oil? Ick! That is NOT Italian.... Olive Oil only....
Sorry there is no way I would put sugar in Italian dressing!
You ain't even taste the sugar. The other spices cover it up. It just balances the taste from all the bitter herbs that are in there. But if you want to eat for a cardiac diet. Don't add the salts or the processed sugar.
@@michealjaye283 I do not use sugar in anything! I live a low carb Keto lifestyle. Sugar is not good for you, that is why I do not use sugar.
I love it except for the Canola oil!
Italians are going nuts over the fact that you used canola oil and not extra virgin olive oil..olive oil always!
Can I use apple cider vinegar and yellow mustard????
Mmmmm! That sounds really good, glasses girl. Go for it!
I made a dressing with both and it's sooo good! Also, I used olive oil instead.
half a cup of red wine vinegar is plenty
In America we call it Mustard vinaigrette
Okay.. now I see what the comments are saying. That is quite a lot of salt. But considering she is only using 1 tablespploon per serving I feel it's okay
Honestly, there shouldn’t be any salt in Italian dressing at all. Not only did she use heaping amounts of table salt, she also used garlic salt instead of garlic powder. Insane.
Don't use Canola oil please for your own health.
You had me until canola oil. Blech.
Waaaaaaaaaaay too much salt!!! Pickling people?
Shut it
Fuck you bitch
Thank you!!!
I know this comment will disgust some people but I'll simple pour a drop of Italian dressing on my finger and taste it. I get it at the store, I'm not a good enough cook to make it myself. I love salads with it.
That is a ton of salt compared to the rest of the ingredients.
"How to Make Italian Dressing" - Add Soybean Oil. How is this a real video... also soybeans are horrendous for you when unfermented.
this recipe = kidney stone!
Why
Only if you drink it straight from the bottle, lol but if you use just a touch of it, it will enhance the flavor of your salad.
Canola oil? Now THAT’S Italian…
please don't call it italian because it's not! no one here use canola oil, it's banned in italy! also no one puts thyme or oregano or onion or garlic powder and all that spices in a salad, it's groos and too overdress! we just dress with extra virgin olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper
Whoa you are right. I tried this recipe. The 2 table spoons of Parsley was a complete waste of parsley. I couldn't even taste it in the food. That was a bunch of Oregano too but I could taste it. The onion powder was a waste too. To be honest, an italian woman who was one of the best cooks I've ever met said what you said. Salt, pepper, olive oil, and vinegar.
Is that really all they typically use in Italy?
CJ Zanders when it comes to italian food, less is more! our food is simple, but delicious and one of the most appreciate cuisine in the world
CJ Zanders with green salads just extra virgin olive oil, vinegar or balsamic vinegar or lemon, salt and pepper (citronette or vinaigrette basically) only recently we discover dressings, but stil we keep them very light and simple. what's the point of a salad if you have to put a 400 kcal dressing in it? i personally like citronette or french dressing in my salads. we have fresh and tasty vegetables so there is no point in hide the flavours with heavu dressings
Ok, I'll try it. But what about adding a table spoon of water to it?
Ok minus the conola oil my gosh your crazy!
Canola oil is very bad for you. Definitely use olive oil!
I have none of these
Loaded with salt and unhealthy seed oil. Canola oil. Pass.
Canola oil? There’s no getting away from the lie…. If it was good for you then we would stick with a store brand. And I bet you recommend margarine as well instead of butter.
Can you text me the recipe
Italian and you used Canola oil? Oooook.
You ruined it with canola oil
This video must be a troll..
The original title was "How to completely crush everyone's palate at your next dinner gathering"
💯💯💯💯💯
Canola oil? Really? That...is not Italian. Olive oil. I was looking for a recipe with fresh herbs and spices. I won't down vote you though.
American recipes all have a lot of salt in them. I'd only put 1tsp of sugar in this.
I wouldn’t put salt or sugar in it!
I don't think Americans use this amount of salt on things. This recipe is completely outrageous with the salt.
Canola oil? Lol that's not Italian. Use light virgin olive oil if you're making this.
ulwaz ulwaz ulwaz rplas wutur wth gren te n rsupez. wurued.
Haha that brocoli was not cooked
LOL, thats not a TABLESPOON
Canola oil his horrible for you.
First
Yes connola is bad,bad,bad!!!
As I am not a rabbit, I will pass.
that's a whole lot of salt....you shouldn't need so much....salt is bad for you.
2nd
This tastes bad.
Lol. What a joke, adding sugar to an Italian dressing. You talk about this homemade version being better than store brands because of preservatives… store brands also idiotically add sugar to theirs too. Sugar is added to everything in our food these days, when it shouldn’t be. It is not good for you!
And the amount of salt was redonkulous as well. It honestly doesn’t even need any! Hell, didn’t you even start with garlic salt instead of garlic powder too? Lol.
No idea why you are adding water either. It doesn’t need to be thinned down.
This is not italian dressing. Ugh!
too much salt for me
