I kind of feel like Cursed flasks shouldn't beat Ichor flasks only because there's a lot of points that are given for "in general" usage. And usually, when you see players buffing up, it's not to fight a bunch of enemies, but it's to fight bosses, which are one on one. Due to this, and the fact that Ichor becomes more effective the more "strikes" per second you're able to inflict, I don't think that the ichor flask was given a fair shake, as it's still effective even in the end game, but you don't often see Cursed flames being used past mech bosses.
hm, that's fair. That is how people would usually use flasks even though I am an advocate that flasks should be more heavily used for events...and then fail to remember flasks are a thing 90% of the time
Says you, I keep my flask buffs up 24/7. I'm not passing up a buff that lasts through death and makes melee even better. And lemme tell ya Ichor does not help all that much when used like that.
@@thedarter I think it depends on what you're using to attack, you can engineer a situation where Cursed Flame is a better debuff, but in general, if you're hitting at least 4 times a second(which in endgame you will likely be) Ichor outdamages. I'm not saying that Cursed flames is bad at all, in fact, if you're not hitting enemies enough, cursed flames are definitely better, but you still don't see them used in general that often past a certain point(usually mech bosses). Not saying they shouldn't be used past a certain point either, it's just that the damage cursed flames does over time is usually much lower than the direct dps increase that ichor provides, which is why ichor tends to be used more often by players.
@@TsuikeNovaus i mostly use Cursed flasks so I can attack enemies once or twice then have them die. Sure, if I'm hitting them 4 times a second ichor would do more, but I'm often not even hitting an enemy 4 times total.
Disagree. Flasks are one of the few buffs that remain post death and they stay for 15 - 20 minutes as opposed to the 2 - 5 minutes of the other buffs. There's no reason to not have a flask buff up at all times, if you're melee.
For the Pickaxe comparison, you confused use time with tool speed Tool Speed is the stat that determines how fast a tool mines Use Time determines how fast it swings to attack So the point should had gone to Crimson there
@@Qqmenisa It always gives me dissonance that he did all the bosses no hit and beat t he game on master mode hardcore, given he seems to have no idea how the game even functions half the time.
Yes, the deathbringer pickaxe is one of the few things that is legitimately, VERY noticeably better in crimson. Going from the nightmare pick's 65 power to the deathbringer's 70 power actually crosses a very important benchmark. Hellstone and the evil stones have 200hp, meaning that it takes 4 hits from a nightmare pick, but only 3 hits from a deathbringer pick to break them. So if you don't personally care about getting a molten pickaxe quickly, that's a noticeable change.
Honestly missed out at the end to compare the debuffs against boss immunities. There are more bosses immune to cursed flames than there are immune to ichor, so Crimson should’ve gotten one last point.
This used to be true, but has been changed in 1.4.1. The boss immunities for Cursed Inferno and Ichor appear to be roughly the same now (Destroyer, Martian Saucer, Lunatic Cultist, and Pillars if you count those). To sweeten the deal more, Cursed Inferno actually deals 24 base DPS. It displays in ticks of 10, which is why it's easy to think it's 10 DPS, but in reality it appears to tick 2.4 times per second (you can even see it ticking way more often than once per second in the video). Ichor is still incredibly strong though and a favorite personally as a summoner, but the debuffs are much closer in strength than before..
@PRORAGEGUY Sure, but among other reasons the Americans & our differing musket design bested the British & theirs during our revolutionary war. Disregarding design, we beat them military to military & with less men. I'd say we were the nation best able to utilize muskets. Some pride in that's fair I think. (Britain's power at the time & the fact that many of the war's battles heavily relied on small arms & infantry are why I have this opinion.) TLDR: The musket is prominent in our nation's history & we utilized it well against the British.
issues with the video: for tools only tool speed matters, which is same on both axe and hammer (-2 points for corruption) crimson pickaxe, while swings slower, is actually faster by 1 tool speed point (14 on deathbringer vs 15 on nightmare. lower number = faster speed). it is only slower when used as a weapon -1 point for corruption, +1 for crimson you added 1 point at the end to both while saying crimson gets one point for golden shower (-1 point for corruption) total score: corruption - 21 crimson - 21 if we take out purely subjective opinion with pets corruption - 20 crimson - 21 edit: i forgot fish were ranked too and crimson got a point which brings it to corruption - 20 crimson - 20 my point still stands: this means its purely a choice of preference whether to pick corruption or crimson
Another issue: +1 point for angler fish variety XD, first its better off having less quest fish, second its something that no one cares especially that this addictional fish is ugly
Something you ignored (or forgot) about ichor is that it's 15 armor penetration can be stacked, items like: Sharktooth (+5), Stinger necklace (+5 & the Honey Buff), and using the Sharpening Station (+12) add to the armor penetration that your character can do to enemies. Not to mention that the proyectiles of Blade Staff, Cool Whip, Dark Harvest, Crystal Vile Shard, Nettle Burst, Wasp Gun, all the flamethrowers and the stars of the Star Cloak also deal armor penetration. Ichor grants more DPS when your weapon (or proyectile from the weapon) hits more than 3 times per second (which is most of the Hardmode weapons). So you could have a ton of DPS by stacking armor penetration for fast-hitting weapons on top of other Hardmode debuffs like Hellfire, Frostbite, Shadowflame, and Venom Acid.
@@sunsfury6488 Yeah but what I mean is that you can easily increase your DPS with Ichor way more than with Cursed flames. Even if the Cursed flames deals like 20 DPS average, the sheer amount of stuff that you can stack with ichor is insane.
But defense in terraria is pretty straight forward, for example, You have 15 defense penetration, you deal 15 more damage to enemies per hit.@@SpiderJAAM
@@Kliniji Ah... Not exactly, the way it works is with a weird equation depending on YOUR amount of armor penetration, and the defense of the enemy. If the player's total armor penetration is greater than the enemy's defense, the damage is increased by half of the enemy's defense, in this case, the entirety of the enemy's defense is effectively ignored. But if the player's total armor penetration is lower than or equal to the enemy's defense, the damage is increased by half of the armor penetration value. This means that any amount between nearly none and all of the enemy's defense is effectively ignored, depending on the specific values.
I feel like worm tooth just adds inconvenience when seeking unholy arrows because it comes from a less common enemy, while crimson allows them to be crafted by the plentiful vertebrae. But maybe I'm biased 😂
The agro stat is multiplayer-only. Enemies dont have a detection distance (most of them anyway) they always know your location, agro just makes them more likely to target YOU in multiplayer. Thats why the agro stat is only increased on the melee class
You take that back. Spider brain is the closest we've got to a Doom reference in Terraria, even if it's practically a one-eyed Arachnotron or Spider Mastermind.
The aggro stuff with the trinkets only work in multiplayer from what i know if you use flesh knuckles in multiplayer enemies are more likely to target you than other players
@@Throarbin im pretty sure they work in single-playerthe aggro mechanic in sp makes it so that mobs see you or aggro toward you from a greater or a lesser distance or game pixels and having an aggro of -120 or lower practically makes you invisible
From what I know aggro is just how far away the enemy will target you over your teammates. Less aggro and you need to be closer and more aggro is from farther away. If you are the only player it has no affect at all as the only target to pick is you. I may be wrong on this, but this is how I understand it.
Aggro works in singleplayer, having more aggro makes enemies able to see you from a larger distance, but it's mostly unnoticable and only really useful in multiplayer
8:08 well.... Demonite is actually slightly more common than crimtane, but not in the way you might think. Demonite ore concentration is increased in corruption chasms, making it easier to find, whereas crimtane ore isn't. Not a big difference, but I think it makes demonite better if you want a pre-eoc sword/bow/magiluminesecese
On the other hand, almost all non-armor crimtane items are better than their demonite equivalents, with the most extreme case being the pickaxe (not only it has a faster tool speed, meaning it mines faster, but the 5% pickaxe power difference also means it breaks hellstone in 3 hits rather than 4).
Crimson because I love playing true melee and the drops from crimson mimics are just more important for defense so sorry corruption you were my favorite but now I convert to crimson
@@Throarbin It is indeed my best friend and since I am mostly tank and play multiplayer is much better to kill bosses since damage doesn’t increase with multiplayer so the bosses becomes more a joke, and golem and plantera are a easy with the right defense setup
@@Guilherme-g3q That's true for single player too, there's a strong argument to be made that the optimal build for single player characters always has flesh knuckles, regardless of class.
I feel it really does depend on the class. I play crimson summoner and mage, and corruption ranger and melee. Crimson summoner because it's much easier for me to beat the brain with a whip, and corruption melee because of the Scourge and I like using the flask of Cursed Flames mostly for fun.
True. Bonus points if you make sure to kill WoF during a "crimson day" so that you can get both Ichor and Cursed Flames, since World Feeders can spawn in the surface corruption.
@@lyndsaypeters5981 In the "Drunk World" seed (05162020 or 5162020), the seed that allows both Crimson and Corruption to spawn in the same world, the primary world evil swaps between Crimson and Corruption every day, with the Wall of Flesh generating Hallow and whichever evil happens to be the primary evil when you kill it
It's close but I think I prefer crimson weapons slightly than exploration because the downfall of it is that exploration of corruption biome is harder because the entrance is vertical while the crimson sometimes have diagonals path
@@Throarbin For me Ichor is a huge upside, I consider the golden shower to be better because ignoring 15 defense is often better for damage than the fireballs and cursed flames debuff, especially since the GS lasts for 10 seconds so you can swap to your main most of the time. The fetid bakhnakhs can also be fun to use. Life drain still sucks though 💀
@@legithuman5486life drain is probably the best worm kill weapon you can get at that time that doesn’t need holy arrows to be decent. The actual “life drain” factor is useless, but for groups and especially if you are blood moon fishing for the blood eel, it tears. Edit: it’s also one of the only weapons that doesn’t use itself if there aren’t any enemies (won’t use mana or attack if there is nothing, other weapons can still shoot or swing) useful fact? No. Cool? Sorta
You know what I like about corruption? Breaking shadow orbs and then flying away through those tunnels canyons things with gravitation potions to fight EoW on surface…
I like the worm scarf. It's genuinely underrated. 17 DR and brain is "better"? The brain requires you to get hit, while the scarf is a passive buff that increases the same level of defense no matter how far through the game. I killed Moon Lord with it equipped on my first Expert Mode run, and I haven't played Classic since.
@@Hadeles good point, but my opinion is: worm scarf is better for classes with better armor (melee and ranged) cuz it "stacks" with the armor and brain of confusion is better for classes with worse armor (mage and summoner) cuz any hit will most likely 2-3 shot you and avoiding it entirely is mostly better
It depends a lot on how often you're getting hit. If you're hit infrequently enough for the dodge to get out of cooldown, the odds of dodging are almost equal to the damage reduction, while also giving you a significant dps buff whenever it's triggered. If you're getting hit while the dodge is on cooldown, though, then yeah the worm scarf is just better. The real reason the crimson is better, though, is the flesh knuckles. It's an amazing equip for every class, and you don't get anything to balance it out on the corruption. It also drops from a mimic, meaning, unlike with the worm scarf and the brain of confusion, you actually just can't get it on a world with the other biome.
As someone who has spent thousands of hours building I just want to comment on the (notable) blocks for each biome: - Corrupt & Crimson Grass Crimson grass has an entirely unique look to it, giving usage in builds more than the corrupt grass which is just a recolour of regular grass. - Ebonwood & Shadewood Both are good & have pieces they synergise with when painted, but overall I feel Shadewood has more synergy & usage - Ebonstone & Crimstone Both of these are just alright honestly, pretty equal even so I have no strong winner. - Ebonstone Brick & Crimstone Brick Ebonstone Brick is just a darker & recoloured Sandstone Brick whilst Crimstone Brick is something entirely different & is a really good piece in all sorts of builds so it wins over Ebonstone Brick. - Demonite Ore + Brick & Crimtane Ore + Brick Both of these are just alright so I don't have a strong winner - Lesion & Flesh Blocks Lesion I've worked with much more extensively because it's overall such a nicer block, flesh can be a bit harder to work with outside of purely crimson builds. - Ebonsand set & Crimsand set Both are pretty good but imo Crimsand is better due to how they paint nicer & the biome tint is more universal than corruption's. Both are good. - Ices These are whatever - Crates imo, corruption's has more usage Overall I think crimson generally has the better building materials but each biome has it's perks in that regard. Wall of text but I just wanted to leave a comment about the building side of things.
there is 2 ways to get both evil biome 1st if your in hardmode you can make a graveyard biome near the dyrad you can get corruption/crimson seed 2nd you can make a world with crimson/corruption and get mushrooms and turn them into powder at glass and spray it in the underground and surface
9:15 I'm sorry, but this is completely wrong. The nightmare pickaxe SWINGS faster, but the deathbringer pickaxe MINES faster. The tool speed is measured in frames just like use time, but it's hard to blame you for getting tripped up on a larger "speed" number being slower. This 14 vs 15 frame difference isn't irrelevant either, as with common mining speed boosts like a mining potion, ambrosia or well fed buff, the nightmare pickaxe will consistently be one frame slower, which is around 10-15% slower than the crimson variant depending on the exact buff, which is very noticeable and genuinely sucks TL;DR: The nightmare pickaxe has a faster tool speed, therefore being an objectively better pickaxe than the deathbringer
@RaidenKaiser Molten pick is THE slowest pickaxe in the game. It's so slow, in fact, that even the silver pickaxe breaks more blocks per second. The reaver shark, bone pickaxe and even the FOSSIL PICKAXE mine significantly faster, and work a lot better with buffs. The only purpose for the molten pick is to get hardmode ore. I wouldn't wish mining dirt with it upon my worst enemy
@Lystr0saur i mean all 3 are slow the evil picks and the molten pick. If you gotta use an evil pick it's not for speed its for getting access to molten pick thats it. it you wanna go fast you wouldn't use either of the 2 evil picks.
With pickaxes, Pickaxe Power matters more than mining speed, because the more pickaxe power means that it will take less hits to break the blocks; this is specially noticeable when you compare the Gold Pickaxe with the Bone Pickaxe, the Bone Pickaxe will hit more times before breaking the blocks but Gold pickaxe will break blocks in less hits (and generally less time than the Bone Pickaxe against harder blocks).
4:59 it is actually an absurd damage boost for most pre hardmode bosses, dealing 10-20% extra damage if you use this right. It is essential for legendary mode if you can't dodge some bosses (like me) Edit: also the whole cursed flames vs ichor part made me cry inside
Clinger staff being better than life drain is a wild take ngl Also some misconceptions about the effectiveness of some of the hardmode stuff The cursed flame and ichor buffs vairy significantly as they can be better or worse depending on the weapon, with weapons that have faster attack speed being much greater, as for example a weapon having an attack rate of 2 per second would be able to gain an addition 30 damage from the flat 15 defense reduction compared to the 10 dps gained from cursed flame. This is reflected in the arrow debate, where for example the tsunami or the Daedalus storm bow has a slightly higher dps with ichor than with cursed flame, due to the more frequent attacks (even with the 2 higher base dps of the arrows). This is again in the Flask debate with something like the terror blade or Fetid Baghnakhs being able to utilize ichor much better than whips. For the cursed darts, the only times it was actually better than ichor darts was during the destroyer fight due to the piercing, for example on the Twins, the cursed darts ranged from around 450-550 dps with the dart rifle, compared to around 520-610 dps from the ichor darts as the spread shot increased the dps significantly, even when some darts missed. Not hate and all, was just a bit confused when I saw the results as they were much different from when i've experience
The cursed flame actually increases your dps by 24, not 10, and ichor increases your damage per hit by 7.5, not fifteen (the damage you deal to enemies is reduced by half their armor, not by their total armor. I don't know why it was designed like this, don't ask me). That said, the majority of builds will be hitting more than four times each second, meaning the ichor generally still wins out on dps... Provided you're actually consistently hitting the target. That said, if you have a really slow weapon, like the sniper rifle (which hits a bit less often than twice each second) then shadowflame is better.
The ability to damage enemies while you use another weapon is great so for that reason I prefer the Clinger staff, however the Life Drain is absolutely goated for survivability
i object to the fetid baghnaks point even in mastermode, fetid baghnaks are a viable plantera option with the right tank melee setup and the hassle of using them is, in my opinion, one of the most worthwhile hassles of any niche hard-to-hit-with weapon in the game (unless you consider starlight to be one of these kinds of weapons) fetid slander is so sad, such a goated weapon 😭
The Fetid Baghnakhs are super underrated. If you are running a tank melee class you can literally stay still and completely destroy plantera in seconds.
Crimson's better because you don't have to worry about the eater of souls that will chase you all the way across the entire map of Terraria. That has happened to me multiple times every time, you can literally be like 20 blocks away from the corruption and then it chases you forever and just does not stop
Something you missed is the Ancient Shadow Armor, which is easier to obtain than regular evil armor as it does not require a boss fight, and only available on corruption worlds. +1 corruption.
how come you gave the point to the clinger staff and not the crimson cloud considering they are both sentry type weapons that deal extra damage with little downsides?
I was frankly baffled by the clinger staff in general. The only uses I could seriously imagine are building an afk farm and OOA. Neither of which are at all necessary for any casual playthrough
@@endthelag4490 I think OP means that the crimson cloud and clinger staff are both support weapons and they don't understand why Throarbin neglected the crimson cloud for being support but chose the clinger staff over the life drain specifically because the clinger staff is a support weapon.
Alright I'm not sure I agree with the judgment myself but I understand the logic. Early on, you don't have a lot of unique mage weapons at your disposal, so the vilethorn comfortably fills a niche that hasn't been filled yet. The passive damage of the rod is less important than having a decent main weapon that early on. Conversely, by the time you get to the clinger staff, you have a lot of options available. So by that point, having the bonus damage DOES matter more. Short version: mage players do better with the vilethorn, and everyone does better with the clinger staff.
One thing to account for with the ichor versus cursed flame flask is that for summoners, armor penetration and reduction really helps the dps of your mass of minions so the dps is more based on how many minion slots you have at any point
Ichor scales with your hit per second. It increases your dps by 7.5 x hits per second, while cursed flame increases your dps by a flat 24. This means that, if you're hitting 4 or more times a second, the single target dps of ichor is stronger than cursed flame. Most (but not all) hardmode builds will benefit significantly more from ichor, with Summoner being the most extreme example.
@@axolotlgaming9144 Brother literally nobody is gonna try to say a 10 dps weapon is better than a 60 dps weapon assuming its just the same thing but different damage and speed. That's literally just a downgrade. Also for a 1 damage weapon defense and damage reduction wouldn't matter, again just making it a literal upgrade. Assuming you cant use accessories, armor or reforges (even though they'd just widen the gap).
A 40 damage weapon that hit three times each second and a 20 damage weapon that hits 7 times a second is a much more realistic comparison, and the answer is: depends on your build and the target.
21:12 iirc enemy aggro refers to the chance you will be chosen out of all players in range. Literally useless in single player, because if you're the only option, it can't be less than 100%. If you have 5 players though, the default is 20%, and if you have less aggro it can go down even more
@@Throarbin Clickbait title then?? You make it seem like this video is supposed to confirm which biome is objectively better with a title like that. "Preference" shouldn't be in this video at all.
@@Inmortuae2233 yeah. Also the points system is very flawed, since it makes the reward for having tiny positives, the same as the reward for having huge positives. For example, the Corruption is always easier to navigate, and survive in, however the crimson has a single fish thats slightly more useful to certain rare people, and those things are treated equally, somehow. The video seems like it most likely exists to spark even further debate for easy engagement.
@@Inmortuae2233 If your objective is min-maxing, then the only things worth comparing are the exclusive items (mimic drops and biome chests), and then the winner is obviously the crimson, because the optimal build for every character, regardless of class, is a defense-stacking build, and the flesh knuckles (and its upgrades) are a huge part of defense-stacking.
@@henriquepacheco7473Yeah nah, the flesh knuckles are much better than putrid scent, but the Dart Rifle with Cursed darts is literally one of the best weapons in the game and the chain gs are far better than fetid bagnahks. The crimson and corruption are very even in regard of exclusive drops, I think the corruption is slightly better because it has the Dart Rifle. Like, for real, this thing is one of the most overlooked weapons in the game, it’s so disgustingly good.
I feel like this rating system, where you give one point to each thing that's better is inefficient when comparing the two world evils, because there are aspects one biome has that are far better than that of the other, yet if it's just one thing, it still only gives the biome one point, meanwhile, when one biome has many things that are just a teeny bit better or even close to draw, that can give it a ton of points, as seen especially when you covered all the stuff you can make with cursed flames. There are different aspects that are generally much more significant to differenciate than others, like how good general navigation or difficuilty is, compared to how good a random fishing drop is. Yet all of these ratings give one point each, making quantity of perks a lot more important in the rating than quality of perks, although I'd say, in the actual game, it's actually the opposite.
Small correction: at 23:10 you say that Cursed Flames deals 10 damage per second when you can very clearly see it's dealing 10 damage faster than every second. It actually ends up being 24 damage per second according to the Wiki
Just because I did the math and the musket is only slightly better DPS wise (without damage spread) than the undertaker with musket being 58 DPS and the undertaker being 57 DPS but you do also use ~1.5x as much ammo with the undertaker
I personally feel like crimson has MUCH more personality than corruption. Corruption just feels like a “generic evil world” while the crimsons sheer existence feels like a sin that needs to be purified.
I disagree. The Crimson to me just feels like default biome but red, whereas the the deep chasms and disgustingly amazing enemies of the Corruption are so unique and cool.
@@SilverSwordCreative the corruption enemies are literally all the same though. Generic AI and repetitive design makes me not want to be in the corruption purely because of how boring it is to both be in and navigate.
I'd even say this extends to the bosses as well as the Eater of Worlds just seems like a generic boss, but the Brain of Cthulhu is tied more into other bosses in the game lore wise, what with the Eye of Cthulhu, Skeletron, the Mech Bosses (each piece being a recreation of Moonlord parts, its brain, spine, and eyes), and the final boss Moonlord itself.
The brain works every 6 seconds after getting hit😢 so it’s better against single enemy’s where there not even a threat and if you’re getting swarmed don’t say your taking damage every 6 seconds!!!! You can see why the brain is bad right.
I think which evil biome you choose depends on what class you are planning on going for. I choose crimson for melee 100% of the time. But I really haven’t played all the classes in depth…😅
EVERY SINGLE ICHOR ITEM is LEAGUES better than the cursed counterparts. While cursed darts are good against the destroyer, ichor darts also pierce and have really good single target damage with fast velocity, making it especially good for a pre-mech duke fishron kill. Cursed arrows do have higher base damage, but in every other aspect, INCLUDING multiple targets, they are much better. Ichor flasks are the only reason the blade staff is even viable, and the cursed flask is just some pitiful 10 dps tacked on to your 400-600 dps around pre mech and 1000-2000 dps for pre-moonlord.
It's 24 dps, not 10. It's 10 damage per tick of the debuff, but it ticks 2.4 times each second. Ichor still should be generally better, though (The only example I can think of where you get more dps with cursed is the sniper rifle)
I disagree with vilethorn vs. crimson rod. The thing with the vilethorn is that it is outclassed by pretty much every other magic weapon that you can get at this point of progression, and while crimson rod is weaker than vilethorn, it has a use as a support weapon that you place down for extra damage like a sentry.
It's just not that reliable in the long run either, after the brain it's barely worth to use it bc it despawns so fast and most bosses just move too fast for it to actually take it's effect of support to it's fullest potential
@VortexF it's incredible a killing queen bee and helpful for skeletron so it's definitely worth using. I used it to passively kill early hardmode bloodmoon enemies while fishing in my last summoner playthrough. It takes like 5 minutes to despawn which is enough for pretty much any bossfight
The shadow armor movement speed buff really surprised me when I tried it for the first time. Because it increases not only acceleration, but the player's max movement speed, it actually pairs really well with a lot of the stronger movement accessories you get later in progression. I made one of my endgame characters wear it and its really crazy how much speed you can squeeze out of it. Now I have one of my loadouts set to my "movement" set and trust me when I say it gets me anywhere I want to go VERY quickly.
So many flawed testing methods, false informations and just plain out stupid and unnecessary arguments in this video. If it was a subjective video I wouldn’t care but calling it „definitive“ is embarrassing. Shame on you
They did recently buff player inflicted debuffs, so it wouldn’t be surprising to find that cursed flames is actually good now. Before it was just regular fire but couldn’t be put out with water. Now it’s much stronger as well.
he is right about the cursed flames vs the ichor flask thing lets say you have a sword that deals 100 dps and the enemy has 20 defence since enemy defence reduces incoming damage by half its value the sword imbued with cursed flames still does 100 dps as (100 - 20/2) + 10 = 100 the ichor debuff reduces defence by 15 so the weapon imbued with ichor does 98 damage per second as (100 - ((20-15)/2)) is 98 since defence cant be in the decimals i.e 2.5 it rounds down to 2 although this calculation is half hazard and possibly wrong but i feel he stands corrected in this debate BTW THIS IS COMPLETELY WRONG DONT TRUST THIS LOOK IN THE REPLIES FOR A MORE CONSISTENT ANSWER
that calculation assumes that the weapon only hits the enemy once per second, something there's barely any weapons in the game that do and also that the calculations are done in normal mode where defense is 0.5 damage reduction per defense point. If we take the slowest hardmode sword, Breaker Blade, it has a use time of 35 and a damage of 70. this means that it deals 70 damage every 35/60 (.58) seconds The Breaker Blade then with cursed flames against a 20 defense target in normal mode, rounding defense down to even numbers, deals ((70/.58 - (20/2)/.58) + 10) = 113 dps With Ichor flask it instead deals ((70/.58 - (4/2)/.58)) = 117 dps This is the single slowest hitting hardmode sword and it already deals more single target damage. If your weapon swings faster or multi hits, as every other hardmode weapon in the game does, ichor pulls further ahead. It's not even a contest in which debuff is better since ichor wins every scenario. By the point that you can make cursed flame flasks you should already have a weapon capable of clearing up a lot of enemies so that should never matter.
@@scoinc2469 let's calcu late it damage wise for a more consistent answer let's take the paladin, it has 50 defence and Dmg taken = [ dmg - defence of enemy/2 ] The meowmere does 200 base dmg. With cursed flames the paladin takes 185 damage With ichor the paladin has 30 defence so around 15 dmg reduction So the meowmere does 185 dmg Now the meowmere has an internal use speed of 14 ticks or around once every .24 seconds so the damage per second is around 46,250 for cursed flames and 46,250 for ichor so it is the exact same and ichor reduces defence by 20 for enemies no 15 my bad .
Even if your calculations are correct, it would still be a massively faulty argument, not just as pointed out in the first reply, but also cuz it only looks at a single weapon in favor of cursed flames. However what annoyed me MASSIVELY in this video was that he didnt seem to consider a summoner using... well actual summons instead of only a whip.
9:23 the actual stat that matters for mining is "tool speed", not "use time." Also, the extra 5% pickaxe power means it can mine ebonstone and crimstone with one less hit, making it even better. The crimson pickaxe is objectively better
The weighting for the points in each section is debatable, but overall a well done analysis. I prefer Crimson, due to valuing the smoother exploration process and have found the brain of confusion more useful long term over multiple play throughs. Randomizing the world evil is honestly the way to go, since its nice to mix things up. Other than that, I do tend to enjoy the higher difficulty of the Crimson enemies.
Yeah, the weight of points is a little wonky as having cursed flares isn't as important as something like boss drops. But trying to weigh every thing point wise felt like it'd make things too convoluted
I prefer the corruption boss and weapons, but also I prefer the crimson music and aesthetic. Around 22:22 You forgot to mention that the sound design for the Scourge is AMAZING, and how it shoots out cute little corrupters.
@@SilverSwordCreative The hallow makes a point of being extremely bright. The boss of the region uses rainbows, and is buffed dramatically during the day. Also, unicorns, fairies and the like are typically portrayed as good. If you compare the two evils, one is dark and shadowy, using the most traditional colors to represent the concept of evil, (the same colors as Maleficent from disney’s sleeping beauty, for example), and the other one is an amorphous blob of flesh and teeth. The crimson is still very evil seeming, but isn’t as traditional in doing so, which doesn’t mirror the hallow.
@@SilverSwordCreative I know you didnt ask me but i want to chime in anyway. Nothing about crimson is inherently evil but corruption is literally THE evil biome, from the color scheme, the debuff is *cursed* flame, the armor is *shadow* armor, the ore is *demon*ite ore, and the biomes name is literally *corruption*. Even the terrain is more evil with giant chasms where early game you have to bridge over or work your way down as to not die of fall damage, while the crimson just gives you staircases to the underground. Crimson is definitely more scary and gross but nothing about it is thematically evil unlike everything about corruption. To put it simply, the theme of crimson is blood and gore, while the theme of corruption is literally evil.
@@fuy1648 isnt the corruption just the crimson but decayed? (i know it came out first i just wanted to point that out),the crimson wants to conquer and assimilate, while the corruption just wants the world to be a lifeless void
There were a LOT of unfair points given. A great example was at the end of the fishing section. You gave a point for ichorfish and rambutan for looking cooler. THAT'S AN OPINION! Also, no one* cares about kites, so corruption shouldn't have gotten a point there either. I know you said we were taking your opinion as science here, but come on, at least have SOME restraint!
You NEED to remake this, mate. There is a lot of incorrect stuff and flawed tests. The crimson is so much better than the corruption, and thats coming from a long time corruption enthusiast. So many random opinion points given here...
And there also are objective mistakes, like when he talked about pickaxes. Not only does the crimtane pickaxe's extra power make it break hellstone in one less hit, but it also actually just mines faster in general - its tool speed, which is the stat used for mining, is faster than the demonite pickaxe's.
I prefer the corruption mostly for aesthetics and I find the 2 to be quite balanced. That being said, there were sooo many moments in this video where I was like "Wait no dude the crimson item is way better" or "What are you doing the Ball O Hurt is really strong and has great range"
@@Throarbin the death bringer pickaxe has a slightly faster tool speed hence it mines faster the other tools ie the axe and the hammer have the exact same tool speed but they have different use speed or how fast the animation plays and how fast the hitbox scans for available enemies and how fast it attacks hence the tools are redundant and the corruption should lose 3 points and the crimson gain 1 point. crimson actually is the winner if the pets which are based on your opinion are not counted for so yeah the corruption ends with around 19 to 20 points whilst the crimson has 22 to 23 points. hope that clears stuff up otherwise this video is a great analysis over the quote on quote best biome.
I dunno, I feel like I don’t care about flasks until I hit the really big bosses where I need to be optimized. Stuff like fishron and empress. And I feel like the lowered defense will help more at those late stages of the game than cursed flame would. That’s the real advantage of ichor: it scales with your character. 10 less defense is huge for quick-hitting weapons, while the cursed flame doesn’t matter. Also, dismissing the claws so quickly? Those are OP as all get out against stuff like plantera in the right setups, I have never once used the chain thingy though.
21:08 Crafting Putrid Scent into the Scope or Quiver will let you stack buffs. Meaning if you craft the Stalker's Quiver you can then equip Stalker's Quiver and Magic Quiver to get 2 dmg buffs, same with the scope, which neither of the flesh knuckles crafts have that advantage.
TL;DR: Crimson is harder with almost always better loot, (golden shower, brain, flesh knuckles, and imo life drain should’ve won bc it tears apart destroyer, wyverns, blood eels etc like nothing else does) while corruption is less difficult with more passive items (worm scarf, clinger staff, putrid scent) and crimson is generally less forgiving when it comes to enemies. (Floaty gross, derplings, ichor sticker, variety of enemies prehm and early hm) but in the end, corruption has more enjoyable things and are used more (chain guillotines despite being just a bad shadowflame knife, dart rifle and musket for ever so slightly higher dps when using low damage bullets)
The brain and the scarf are honestly pretty even (the scarf is more consistent and generally better for boss fights, especially if you aren't great at dodging).
I generally find the weapons to be pretty balanced honestly. I think the Corruption has better high damage weapons, while the Crimson has more tools for survivability. I love the Ball O Hurt and the Musket, but the Crimson Rod is good for having a little extra DPS. I also favor the Scourge for raw damage but the Knives are nice to have. As for the brain and scarf, I tend to use the scarf for mobbing and the brain for bosses. Also I didn't know till recently that after the buff, the chain guillotines are WAY better than I ever gave them credit for.
So, as a corruption main, you basically just gave corruption more points for being/having cooler things. So therefore corruption is better than that cringe crimson.
I think this needs to be redone to also consider the hallow. I know it's a difference between crimson and corruption only, but the comparison can go both ways. Why pick crimson or corruption when hallow also exists as a viable (and often better option, im talking to you daedalus stormbow, crystal bullet and crafting options). Ultimately the choice would only really benefit pre hardmode and post plantera PS: the hallow also gets 2 bosses instead of 1 each, and one of them is probably one of the most beloved fights in the game, aswell has giving summoner one of the most viable weapons in the game (same can be said for the sword staff too from queen slime but that's more stage progression locked)
The true answer is…
Just pick whatever the fuck you like the most
Yep

Or let the game pick for your when creating the world
Man his words are as wise as Gandhi's
eh, i just do random or do the drunk seed to have both
I kind of feel like Cursed flasks shouldn't beat Ichor flasks only because there's a lot of points that are given for "in general" usage.
For the Pickaxe comparison, you confused use time with tool speed
Tool Speed is the stat that determines how fast a tool mines
Use Time determines how fast it swings to attack
So the point should had gone to Crimson there
This comment summarizes the whole video its poorly researched and more than half the points are cosmetics which are personal preference
iirc there are scenarios where either pickaxe is better than the other

@@paragonvice1128to be fair that’s most terraria “”veterans””
Yes, the deathbringer pickaxe is one of the few things that is legitimately, VERY noticeably better in crimson. Going from the nightmare pick's 65 power to the deathbringer's 70 power actually crosses a very important benchmark. Hellstone and the evil stones have 200hp, meaning that it takes 4 hits from a nightmare pick, but only 3 hits from a deathbringer pick to break them. So if you don't personally care about getting a molten pickaxe quickly, that's a noticeable change.
Honestly missed out at the end to compare the debuffs against boss immunities.
There are more bosses immune to cursed flames than there are immune to ichor, so Crimson should’ve gotten one last point.
oh, good point

(Britain's power at the time & the fact that many of the war's battles heavily relied on small arms & infantry are why I have this opinion.)
TLDR: The musket is prominent in our nation's history & we utilized it well against the British.

issues with the video:
for tools only tool speed matters, which is same on both axe and hammer (-2 points for corruption)
crimson pickaxe, while swings slower, is actually faster by 1 tool speed point (14 on deathbringer vs 15 on nightmare. lower number = faster speed). it is only slower when used as a weapon
-1 point for corruption, +1 for crimson
you added 1 point at the end to both while saying crimson gets one point for golden shower (-1 point for corruption)

While yes, armour penetration can be stacked, stacking it won't increase the actual potency of the ichor debuff

The aggro stuff with the trinkets only work in multiplayer from what i know if you use flesh knuckles in multiplayer enemies are more likely to target you than other players
Yeah, that's what they are meant to do, but it means that the stat is useless in single player 😔
Aggro affects spawn rates, increasing how many you get during events in particular.

I like the worm scarf. It's genuinely underrated. 17 DR and brain is "better"? I killed Moon Lord with it equipped on my first Expert Mode run, and I haven't played Classic since.
@@Hadeles good point, but my opinion is:
worm scarf is better for classes with better armor (melee and ranged) cuz it "stacks" with the armor
and brain of confusion is better for classes with worse armor (mage and summoner) cuz any hit will most likely 2-3 shot you and avoiding it entirely is mostly better
@@Hadeles the worm scarf also requires you to get hit in order to do anything and the brain also scales no matter where you are in the game.
As someone who has spent thousands of hours building I just want to comment on the (notable) blocks for each biome:
- Corrupt & Crimson Grass
Crimson grass has an entirely unique look to it, giving usage in builds more than the corrupt grass which is just a recolour of regular grass.
- Ebonwood & Shadewood
Both are good & have pieces they synergise with when painted, but overall I feel Shadewood has more synergy & usage
- Ebonstone & Crimstone
Both of these are just alright honestly, pretty equal even so I have no strong winner.
- Ebonstone Brick & Crimstone Brick
Ebonstone Brick is just a darker & recoloured Sandstone Brick whilst Crimstone Brick is something entirely different & is a really good piece in all sorts of builds so it wins over Ebonstone Brick.
- Demonite Ore + Brick & Crimtane Ore + Brick
Both of these are just alright so I don't have a strong winner
- Lesion & Flesh Blocks
Lesion I've worked with much more extensively because it's overall such a nicer block, flesh can be a bit harder to work with outside of purely crimson builds.
- Ebonsand set & Crimsand set
Both are pretty good but imo Crimsand is better due to how they paint nicer & the biome tint is more universal than corruption's. Both are good.
- Ices
These are whatever
- Crates
imo, corruption's has more usage
Overall I think crimson generally has the better building materials but each biome has it's perks in that regard. Wall of text but I just wanted to leave a comment about the building side of things.

Same, drunk world ost is just amazing pluz it's much more rewarding, except for the underworld

@mendoza6260 and the drunk world seed which spawns crimson and corruption naturally.
This 14 vs 15 frame difference isn't irrelevant either, as with common mining speed boosts like a mining potion, ambrosia or well fed buff, the nightmare pickaxe will consistently be one frame slower, which is around 10-15% slower than the crimson variant depending on the exact buff, which is very noticeable and genuinely sucks
TL;DR: The nightmare pickaxe has a faster tool speed, therefore being an objectively better pickaxe than the deathbringer
I mean it doesnt matter which is faster cuz youll be moving to a molten pick in like 15 min anyways if you dug a hellivator lol
I wouldn't wish mining dirt with it upon my worst enemy
unrelated but
scug pfp
@katranian related. Scug pfp
@Lystr0saur i mean all 3 are slow the evil picks and the molten pick. If you gotta use an evil pick it's not for speed its for getting access to molten pick thats it. it you wanna go fast you wouldn't use either of the 2 evil picks.
9:46 I have been wanting this for years. It angers me that nobody else cares

It is essential for legendary mode if you can't dodge some bosses (like me)
Edit: also the whole cursed flames vs ichor part made me cry inside
DUMBAHH testing go brrr
Clinger staff being better than life drain is a wild take ngl
Also some misconceptions about the effectiveness of some of the hardmode stuff
The cursed flame and ichor buffs vairy significantly as they can be better or worse depending on the weapon, with weapons that have faster attack speed being much greater, as for example a weapon having an attack rate of 2 per second would be able to gain an addition 30 damage from the flat 15 defense reduction compared to the 10 dps gained from cursed flame.
Life drain is ass, clinger staff is good for old ones
i object to the fetid baghnaks point
even in mastermode, fetid baghnaks are a viable plantera option with the right tank melee setup and the hassle of using them is, in my opinion, one of the most worthwhile hassles of any niche hard-to-hit-with weapon in the game (unless you consider starlight to be one of these kinds of weapons)
fetid slander is so sad, such a goated weapon 😭
fr like you can completely shred plantera in seconds
Corruption vs crimson is like terraria vs Minecraft at this point
But Terraria wins definitly having around 50 times more weapons and video like this about Minecraft vs Terraria would be pointless
The Fetid Baghnakhs are super underrated. If you are running a tank melee class you can literally stay still and completely destroy plantera in seconds.
Crimson's better because you don't have to worry about the eater of souls that will chase you all the way across the entire map of Terraria. That has happened to me multiple times every time, you can literally be like 20 blocks away from the corruption and then it chases you forever and just does not stop
crimeras and eaters of souls literally have the exact same ai.

@@endthelag4490 vilethorn does terrible against any sort of defense, while some may prefer it, i prefer the cloud
Hm, interesting point
I really question how he didnt consider this. It looked like he thinks that summoners only use whips...
These is just one answer to this, Corruption is better because 1 it looks cooler and 2 the theme is a banger

A 40 damage weapon that hit three times each second and a 20 damage weapon that hits 7 times a second is a much more realistic comparison, and the answer is: depends on your build and the target.
dont let him learn about the minishark
21:12 iirc enemy aggro refers to the chance you will be chosen out of all players in range. Literally useless in single player, because if you're the only option, it can't be less than 100%. If you have 5 players though, the default is 20%, and if you have less aggro it can go down even more

what would the score be if preference wasn't included in the final score?
In the end, almost all of it can come down to preference
That’s actually great…
But at least corruption isn’t like corrupting the game files…
Wait that’s actually a cool idea
Hm, interesting point

Ichor flasks are the only reason the blade staff is even viable, and the cursed flask is just some pitiful 10 dps tacked on to your 400-600 dps around pre mech and 1000-2000 dps for pre-moonlord.
you sure ichor darts pierces? I'm pretty sure that's not a thing
@@Throarbin Nope Ichor darts don't pierce.
@@Throarbin i do think they pierce if you hit before they split up, but i might be wrong
It's 24 dps, not 10. It's 10 damage per tick of the debuff, but it ticks 2.4 times each second. Ichor still should be generally better, though (The only example I can think of where you get more dps with cursed is the sniper rifle)
Thing about ichor items is that they have worse stats than cursed items
Maybe cursed flame is not that good as effect, but stats are higher

@aetherius6221 you know what? That's a solid take.

Consume carbon dioxide.
People need to stop debating this, YOU CAN HAVE BOTH IN ONE WORLD WITHOUT OTHER WORLDS OR MODS
he is right about the cursed flames vs the ichor flask thing
lets say you have a sword that deals 100 dps and the enemy has 20 defence
since enemy defence reduces incoming damage by half its value the sword imbued with cursed flames still does 100 dps as (100 - 20/2) + 10 = 100
the ichor debuff reduces defence by 15 so the weapon imbued with ichor does 98 damage per second as (100 - ((20-15)/2)) is 98 since defence cant be in the decimals i.e 2.5 it rounds down to 2
although this calculation is half hazard and possibly wrong but i feel he stands corrected in this debate
BTW THIS IS COMPLETELY WRONG DONT TRUST THIS LOOK IN THE REPLIES FOR A MORE CONSISTENT ANSWER
that calculation assumes that the weapon only hits the enemy once per second, something there's barely any weapons in the game that do and also that the calculations are done in normal mode where defense is 0.5 damage reduction per defense point.
If we take the slowest hardmode sword, Breaker Blade, it has a use time of 35 and a damage of 70. this means that it deals 70 damage every 35/60 (.58) seconds
The Breaker Blade then with cursed flames against a 20 defense target in normal mode, rounding defense down to even numbers, deals ((70/.58 - (20/2)/.58) + 10) = 113 dps
With Ichor flask it instead deals ((70/.58 - (4/2)/.58)) = 117 dps
This is the single slowest hitting hardmode sword and it already deals more single target damage.
@@scoinc2469 yeah i mean i did say the calculations were half hazard but enemy defence always reduces damage by half the defence point.
@@scoinc2469 let's calcu late it damage wise for a more consistent answer let's take the paladin, it has 50 defence and
Dmg taken = [ dmg - defence of enemy/2 ]
The meowmere does 200 base dmg.
With cursed flames the paladin takes 185 damage
With ichor the paladin has 30 defence so around 15 dmg reduction
So the meowmere does 185 dmg
Now the meowmere has an internal use speed of 14 ticks or around once every .24 seconds so the damage per second is around 46,250 for cursed flames and 46,250 for ichor so it is the exact same and ichor reduces defence by 20 for enemies no 15 my bad
.
I contradicted my own sentence 💀💀
Even if your calculations are correct, it would still be a massively faulty argument, not just as pointed out in the first reply, but also cuz it only looks at a single weapon in favor of cursed flames.
However what annoyed me MASSIVELY in this video was that he didnt seem to consider a summoner using... well actual summons instead of only a whip.
Magiluminescence "a brief light in my dark life"
9:23 the actual stat that matters for mining is "tool speed", not "use time." Also, the extra 5% pickaxe power means it can mine ebonstone and crimstone with one less hit, making it even better. The crimson pickaxe is objectively better
Comparing crimson to corruption is like comparing chicken to beef. Both are good for their own reasons and neither can replace the other
The weighting for the points in each section is debatable, but overall a well done analysis.

Corruption wins, exclusively because it mirrors the hallow in a more thematically satisfying way.
I’m not disagreeing at all, I just want to know, why do you think that?

There were a LOT of unfair points given. A great example was at the end of the fishing section. You gave a point for ichorfish and rambutan for looking cooler. THAT'S AN OPINION! Also, no one* cares about kites, so corruption shouldn't have gotten a point there either.

4:06 talk about being biase
I would also like to mention that Icker flasks are better for summoner because it effectively allows your summons to deal extra damage as well
The real answer is Hallow

Ultimately the choice would only really benefit pre hardmode and post plantera
PS: the hallow also gets 2 bosses instead of 1 each, and one of them is probably one of the most beloved fights in the game, aswell has giving summoner one of the most viable weapons in the game (same can be said for the sword staff too from queen slime but that's more stage progression locked)
