    Have done this same trip many times with my dad and brothers in the late 70's to mid 90's, thanks for the video's it brought back memories of the great times we had over the years. We went always in mid May, much colder and several scary paddles on Burntroot and Cedar lakes. Now I am to old to do this trip again but I suggest if your in shape to carry a heavy pack and canoe, get use to a canoeing in fast and rough water, as well as back packing ..... take this trip with a good friend or family , you'll never forget it. Thanks again....Gary D

    Emma is so very smart, and very well behaved!!! She rides so nice in the canoe, my dog (lost her /October 17 2023 bone cancer 15.5 years) she would jump out of the canoe all the time! She too loved the water. She swam on top and under the water! I miss her so much. I love watching your dog on your canoe trips!

      Emma did the same on our first few trips, but it slowed us down a lot so we worked at teaching her to stay inside while we travel, play time at camp 😜 she loves it.

    So glad you went to check out the alligator. I see several marked on the map. (you had gone right past another one, when you were on Catfish Lake earlier) Abandoned infrastructure is a bit of a passion of mine.
    edit: Oh! I should have waited to comment. I see James checked out the alligator on Catfish afterall. Quite amazing they operated via a single cylinder steam engine. I would have thought for sure at least two cylinders would have been used. (for ease of starting, steering, and reversing)

      @@bobtaylor3194 Thanks Bob! Many more to come soon. Actually the iPhone 12 Pro has amazing image stabilization. Everything is handheld because I don’t want filming to interrupt the trip pace and need the phone to easily slip in and out of a side pant /shorts pocket. When I upgraded from my 8Plus I was extremely impressed. I expected some stabilization, and that was a partial motivator for the upgrade, but it’s exceeded my expectations.

    Great series! Love EMMA!!!
    You're 100% right about the way people are treating the park. I wonder if part of it is that with 'self-check-in' and no interaction with park staff or rangers, people aren't being given a briefing on how to operate in the park. I've definitely noticed things going downhill since park staff stopped giving their "leave no trace" etc talk at check-in.

    • @TwoPacksandaPup
      @TwoPacksandaPup  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Benjamin, we will pass the love on to Emma ♥️😄 We totally think lack of education / information combined with influx of new campers is the reason for the decline of park conditions. Even recently though while having to pick up permits in person, we haven’t been given much of a talk or passed information about how to carry yourself in the park. So there has been a decline in educating those going in. We really think this is key. Likely people are just unaware, and would try to do the right thing most of the time if presented with the information. Hopefully some changes can be made in the near future.

    • @TwoPacksandaPup
      @TwoPacksandaPup  2 роки тому +1

      That’s awesome Robert! Perhaps the other way could be slightly easier as the second day has a lot of portaging the way we went and our packs were super full at that point.
      James has the Stohlquist Fisherman, mine is the Salus Ungava. I had an NSR side buckle pfd that got displaced in a move, but found it awkward to take on and off over my hat multiple times a day, I much prefer the front zip I have now. Have a great trip!

    • @TwoPacksandaPup
      @TwoPacksandaPup  2 роки тому +1

      There has been a recent surge in camping popularity during the Covid times, and it’s likely just a matter of not knowing the correct way to handle yourself and your ‘things’ out there. More education prior to issuing permits would be helpful we think.

    I’ve been loving your videos! I love bringing both my dogs camping it just makes it that much more special. Just wondering how do you pack Emma’s food? I usually just do a big zip lock bag and then put it in with our food, is there a better method?

    • @TwoPacksandaPup
      @TwoPacksandaPup  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Breanna! We used to do plastic zip locks as well. We’ve recently switched to paper sandwich bags. We like to portion her meals out so we put one meal per bag and our first few try’s at it we’ve used Ziplock brand paper sandwich bags that seal with a sticker. The next round we’re hoping to use something without printed designs and stickers just to try and be more eco friendly. Originally we tried it looking for alternative methods for our own snacks but have just stuck to using this for her food for now as a first step. Works well, but we do find that after a longer time oils from the kibble will start to absorb a bit into the paper bag. Always looking for better food packing methods so we may try other options.
