    Yes. I had a big male chesapeake bay retriever i trained to tow the canoe. He was like a "water sled" dog .Was helpful in adverse winds. Plus was a great pack animal.
    Your dog is awesome. Nice and calm.

    Finally, folks who know how to paddle - with a dog - who swims like Clydesdales. You really should train the dog to tow the kayak... one strong swimmer who loves the water. Sweet!

      😂 we should work on that training, Emma pulling us, would be useful for sure! She’s certainly a water dog, can’t keep her out of there. Almost always wet from April-Nov. Thanks for watching and the kind words Joe 😊

      @@TwoPacksandaPup Emma is a caretaker, as evidenced by her alertness and concern of the companion paddler. By enabling her benevolent tendencies she should respond like artic pack dogs when sledding - they absolutely reach their full engagement in life. Cherish her while she is with us.

    I can't wait to get a puppy and take them with me on canoe trips. I have been going on canoe trips since I was in diapers. I love canoe tripping and when I watch your videos I feels like I was there with you. I love watching your videos in the winter when I can not go canoeing myself.

      That’s awesome! We love watching camping trips videos in the winter too, it’s very therapeutic 😌 Having a dog that enjoys the trips as well is priceless, it took us a lot of practice and training to get here with Emma, and choosing the right breed (although at first we thought we chose wrong because we couldn’t keep her out of the water and in the canoe 😂) but it’s worked out perfectly and we’re so happy to have her.

    Nice trip you two did. It is a shame that people leave so much trash around. The stair portages you did made me think of a big one in the Boundary Waters, Minnesota. Actual wood steps, 99 or 101 steps, can't remember but it was a climb. Heard stories of a person who dropped an aluminum canoe and it bounced all the way down, what a noise that was. Take care and happy trippin!

    Just came across your channel and watched 4 videos (2 trips) in the last few days. I love your dog! I wanted to see how you managed with a young dog and a canoe, as I am in the same position, although my dog doesn't like to swim, but won't sit still in the canoe either! I've only had her on Opeongo via motorboat - she had a great time! Anyway, it's nice to see your experiences as you are in areas of the park I am familiar with and/or would like to go to sometime. I like your camping ethics - quiet, no trace. I always end up bringing out someone else's trash! You guys would be great to camp with! Nice trout btw - that looked delicious! Happy tripping!

      Thanks for watching Richard! We really wanted Emma to love the water with how much time we spend around it. As a puppy she really took to swimming up at our cabin, and she really is obsessed now. Will be helpful I think if your pup isn’t as huge of a fan of swimming lol because having them jump out every few minutes and hauling them back in is pretty exhausting haha 😅 but while we were canoe training we had many treats on hand, and the main thing that helped was not to fight where she really wanted to sit.. we were trying to teach her to lay or sit on the canoe floor on a matt, but once we gave up and let her up onto our packs where she could see everything, it was smooth sailing. Not ideal for centre of gravity lol but oh well. Absolutely passionate about quiet and respectful camping. Good on you for chipping in and taking trash out too! That’s awesome. Maybe we will see you around 😊 Have a great time out there!

    I just starting watching your channel and you guys have great content with lots of tips! Emma is truly the star of the show even if she doesn't know it yet. I can see how you both really love the park by the way you treat it with such respect. You went above and beyond by taking out the trash! I am going to "dip my toe" in back country camping this year. Any tips or lake recommendations for someone starting out?

    • @TwoPacksandaPup
      @TwoPacksandaPup  Рік тому

      Awesome! We would recommend starting with smaller lakes and shorter distances at first. The summer is safer rather than spring or fall where temps and water can be very cold and different gear is needed. Watching videos of others tripping can be very helpful prep and help you think of things that you may not have though of otherwise. A life jacket, map plus backup map 👌
      ..I suspect Emma may know she is the star, she has some attitude sometimes 😂 Have a great trip! The first one is always special.

    With all the trash that appears to be in algonquian, it woukd be cool if someone coukd arrange a volunteer campsite cleanup weekend and in exchange for the work you get 5 free permits to stay at the park. Seems like the parks pretty trashed by aholes from every site that you guys have gotten. The maine island trail association does a volunteer trash pick up weekend and clean up the islands.
