A spinnerbait is one of those baits that you can fish so many ways. To me, it's very much like a jig and I tend to fish them that way. Try this retrieve - slow roll it for a few cranks, then give it a quick couple of pops followed by a couple of quick cranks before back to slow rolling at again. Alternate all of that back and forth randomly. I've caught so many fish along grass lines and lay downs by doing that.

I was on a good spinnerbait bite earlier this year straight retrieving it for the most part, but when I started sweeping/pumping the rod like you do I started getting twice as many bites, especially around cover
it makes a big difference!

I have an idea…go down to the river for a scent test!!!
Rig up about 5 exact lures ,lines , etc. setups…
And try no scent and four with different scents…..and keep rotating all setups until you catch something!!!!!!

Thanks again Matt. Try pulling to the surface and slow roll down repeat as needed. You will notice they all hit either on the way up or the way down on a given day. Usually down .

Years ago I used to straight retrieve almost everything with every cast. No more. I'm constantly pumping the rod and and changing things up. Great tip, Matt.

Matt, great tips. I knew about the last one, and have done the 2nd one kind of accidentally while burning it back. The first is kind of a new one to me. From your videos collectively though, I always try to stop n go retrieve in some form or fashion. Great info!

Aw man, I do great on spinnerbaits- I'll have to fish it right now& see if I can't get bit more! Seriously though, like retreive#1- i sort of " change direction" on the bait to get that flare effect; I actually try to burn+wake the blades without blowin' em out-works great for me. I'll blow it out once or twice doin' that& see what hits.
I always pick up at least one new technique if not more from these videos and I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share 🎣

Use a single colorado blade and fish it like a buzz bait. Makes a really great gurgling sound. I have caught a ton of fish over grass and points doing this.

spinnerbait is one of my fav's I always work it in some fashion, I like to let it flutter after I bump some cover like wood or grass

I've been trying to fish spinners more often and while looking for nicer spinners i found place that makes some nice baits called Taylor man's custom lures and pretty impressed with thier jigs, spinners and bladed baits, very well made, nice paint job and skirts.. they also have some crazy blade options with upto 7 willows or Colorado blades..

Great tips. Other than slow rolling a spinner bait on the bottom I use these techniques on every horizontal bait I fish. Maybe a video on how to sharpen hooks would be advantageous for many people as spinnerbait hooks aren't as good or as sharp as the single hooks we buy these days

First off great video!! Growing soo fast this channel!!!! But I figured this out on my own when I caught 2 on a straight retrieve and next 20 mins nothing. I figured since I caught 2 it would be a pattern so I changed out the retrieve like a square bill and boom got my limit next 10 mins love a spinner bait bite especially when they choke it!!!
thats awesome! always good to pay attention to what you did to generate the bites and then replicate!
I will say that the burn and pause, burn and pump are some of my favorite retrieves.

I'm sorry tell you that I've never seen that bait, but I can definitely tell that it would be good one, spinnerbaits don't get bites down here on the chic like they used to, I could be wrong since it's been a long time since I've thrown it! 🎣

Right on brother! My philosophy with a spinner bait is add action to it as it doesn't have a lot on its own. Bling is one thing but put it in their face and kill it or rip it away that the deal!

Can't wait to try that first retrieve! I do the other 2 , but use straight instead of first one. The bottom retrieve i use in cold water and at night. I gotta try it during day. Thanks. I usually use spinnerbait more with wind. On the bottom, is it being windy as important?

What are your thoughts on a pistol grip rod? I'm 48 and most of my life I've fished them and don't understand why they went away, they definitely have a place.
they have a place but i primarily cast two handed so i prefer a longer butt on my rods

Do you prefer a particular brand of spinner bait over another? Say like war eagle over terminator? What do you think of berkelys new spinnerbaits?
war eagle is my confidence bait at the moment. i havent tried berkleys new spinnerbaits but they look good.

Hey guys, what's everyone's absolute favorite rod and reel combo?
Tough question. I’ll kind of bite first but have to go with 2. One spinning and one casting. I’ll take my NRX+ 852C JWR and my Shimano Aldebaran for casting (Largemouth) and my NRX+ 901 S with my Shimano Stella spinning reel which is now discontinued. If anyone has any Stella spinning reels for sale let me know. I’m not a fan of the looks of the new Stella.
I have a fishing 13 blackout rod and reel I love it you can check out my Chanel and you can see it
My favorite rod/reel is also my cheapest. A kastking zephyr with 6lb flouro stuck onto a 6.5ft basspro shops cranking stick. I use it for weightless worms and small swimbaits, casts a darn mile and it's so cheap I don't have to worry about it at all
NRX and stella they make a great pair
@@fishaholic122 Agree. High end, quality. Sensitivity, light, strong and a great drag system that casts very well. The rod and reel allow you to use smaller diameter lines that help in clear water for bites, feel, and action.

It's just a a better way to get your point across
without being demeaning.
I don't think that's your intent.

I dont think im being demeaning with my title. just that the majority of people dont know these retrieves. plus its kinda the name of the series now and lots of people have told me they are enjoying them.
