55 years later and we haven't learned a thing 💔
This is what happens when a legend rolls out of bed in the morning to put his A game clothes on and delivers a moment that outlives generations upon generations.
Greatly said!
That comment is absolutely spot on.
Well put, well put. Elvis was some of Gods best work - and lets not forget he was a top notch gospel singer, I think thats where a lot of this soul and feeling comes from in many of his songs
Exactly, it's like....either we control our mind or we let something else control it, and remember to choose what you go after, very wisely....
@@yambo59 He went to a black Pentecostal church. Where he got his soul filled with music 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻And his love for God 👍🏻💛🙏
The best there was. Is. Or ever will be. Nobody could match Elvis Presley. Nobody. Canada
The King
Undoubtedly never matched, never will be.
This was his public statement to what was going on at that time. This song should be heard today and taken to heart
You have to put this in the context of the time. 1968 was probably the most turbulent year of the 20th century. MLK and RFK were killed and the Vietnam War was raging, splitting the country in two with demonstrations and daily TV reporting, including Walter Cronkite's famous reporting in February. Now the special was taped in June of 1968, not long after RFK was struck down, and was scheduled for a December airing (it aired December 2nd, my mother clearly remembers it. She loved Elvis then and loves Elvis now). Elvis' manager, Colonel Tom Parker wanted to end the special with "I'll Be Home For Christmas." W. Earl Brown and Billy Goldenberg wrote this song with Elvis in mind. After hearing the demo, Elvis said "I'll never sing another song I don't believe in. I'll never make another movie I don't believe in." Parker was not pleased with the song, which does echo King's "I Have A Dream" speech, but Elvis pleaded with Parker to give it a shot and the rest is history.
He is the King for a reason and this is one example why he is
The culmination of an entire CHILDHOOD and TEEN YEARS going to church in the poorest black and white ghettos in the South during the Great Depression and Segregation ... without a pot to pee in. Brother buried in a shoe box they was so poor. I think when you have all of God's gifts of singing abilities and all that real-life experience....born in that historic time period... with a brave yearning for the harmony of people, you get something like this to occur, once in a millennium. I've never heard a greater social justice song than this. This is sung with superhuman conviction.
And that folks is the reason Elvis will forever live on..Nobody will ever come close💥💥
Amen.
Elvis skin colour was not sunbed made!! He was of cherokee indian heritage, just thought id say to the haters of this beautiful man, his s was natural, thanks Ray, Mikey
This song along with “In The Ghetto” and so many others let’s you know just how powerful his music is , and shows you this man was truly a gift from God. Enjoy him and his music and welcome to the world of ElvisPresley !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He sure looks like a beautiful God standing there
hum, elvis is the best selling male solo artist of all time, EVER in history and he died in 1977. He is one of the most beloved, loved entertainers in history, STILL. So, not sure where your comments about people disliking him come from...don't not too many people who disliked Elvis....in fact. the most famous artist, actors, celebrities....etc, if asked who they wanted to met, it was "elvis" and were literally taken aback by his unbelievable good looks. He seemed to be a very generous, giving man, growing up so poor as he did.
Where are the singers today that sing with that power, emotion and conviction. I know of none.
Amen ! Check out Upchurch
Epic, legendary performance. Elvis truly was and will always be The King. I have loved him since truly before I can remember. At 53, his pure talented, beauty from the inside out can still bring me to tears. He touches your soul like no one else can. A remarkable man that no other artist can ever touch. I wish Lisa Marie and Michael Jackson would have had a child together. Can you imagine the looks, talent, voice and dance skills that kid would have had?! Mind blowing to think about.

1st time commenting on your channel. I love your reaction! I'm 55 and have loved Elvis all my Life. It is such a thrill to see people now connecting to his music in a whole new way. There are a few really great youtube DOCS on Elvis's early life and career. His gospel origins are massively important to him. Congrats on your journey to discover ELVIS!
You know what's crazy...Elvis and all the greats in any category ever, not a single one of them even knew that they would be on a thing called the internet where generations after generations will watch them and be inspired, they still influence people through their music, and years yet to come, it's a miracle in itself.
Elvis is a legend he is the best
The best we will ever see the man had so much talent, just perfect
Elvis is one of the most recognized & famous people in music history, & no doubt, one of the most talented, however his heart & love for humanity, is his true legacy 💗💚💜 I wish with every fiber of my being, that his dream would come true right now!!! 💗💚💜 RIP **Martin Luther King** RIP **Robert Kennedy** RIP **Elvis Presley** 💗💚💜 3 amazing men, who tried to change to world for the better, & paid the ultimate price 😔 *GREAT REACTION*
Elvis has more plantium double plantium and gold albums more then Michael Jackson and Beatles put together Elvis has over a 1 billion albums sold world wide and over 1 billion people listened to him in concert on tv in Hawaii in 70 s I don’t think there’s any singer in history that can get that much people to listen to them ever elvis can sing blues gospel country rock pop blue grass soul etc t to me he s the greatest singer the world will ever no
I'm writing this in 2023. 55 as in fiftyfuckingfive years after this powerful song. And we still haven't learnt... not a thing... in 55 effin years.
I’m a Chicano dude from Southern California. I grew up on Elvis. Elvis was universal. My dear mother who has passed on was an Elvis fan. Elvis is deep in my heart, as he is with many folk, all across the globe. You should check out Elvis’ gospel albums; real good stuff, you won’t be disappointed. Elvis had a deep soul.❤🕺
Take me to church Elvis.
Elvis was one of the most kind loving caring people we've ever seen and the earth needs more of today
It's genuinely heartbreaking how much hate this great man gets and the worst part is he gets it from both sides, from good people and evil individuals. The world needs artists and music like this today desperately.
For some reason Most Black people dislike him. I don't get it. Makes me sad.
@@laurawilloughby4000 sadly it's because of false articles in newspapers back in the day saying that Elvis said some racist comments but it was completely false, they were just framing his name and sadly for some it succeeded.
A lot of it's because he groomed (and later married, once she was of age) a 14 year old, the prescription addiction and there were a lot of stories, articles, videos about how much he didn't like the black community and stole their music, etc. The first 2 don't have anything to do with his music though but most of the people I know that dislike him, is because of point one.
@@laurawilloughby4000 Who gives a shit what they think. Most who dislike Elvis dislike him for reasons that arent real. Let them swim in their ignorance.
@@valeriea475 Groomed? Again. are you going to be one of those people that relies on misinformation? Elvis met Priscilla in 1958 when she was 14 in Germany. They were never alone and basically met at parties......He left Germany and she didnt see him again until she was way past 17 (age of consent in Tennessee was 16 at the time). She indicated in her book they never had sex until their wedding night when she was 21 and she also indicated that it was she that wanted to come and live with Elvis.......Where does the groomed part fit in?.
Many times Elvis said he was not the king That Jesus was the king.
Elvis got a lot of flack for insisting this be the final song of the show. His manager and others wanted him to do a Christmas song for a finale. But he stuck to his guns and sang If I Can Dream. There are few who are near Elvis's stature, charisma, and God-given talent. None of them are alive today. We all think of Micheal Jackson, Freddie Mercury and maybe a handful of others, but who can you name today that has the same impact across all cultures? I just discovered your channel today, so this is my first time reacting to you reacting to Elvis! haha! New sub from AB Canada.
The reason he knows so much about black music he was raised listening to it , when he was born he was really poor his best friend was a black boy, and his first taste of music was going with him to listen to Jazz and Soul music at the nearest black Club, so I hate it when people say he was racist they did not know this man
“ For you to sing something like this , at that time , is why you’re the King.” 👍👍👍
HAPPENS TO BE ALL THAT HE DID, MADE HIM KING! ANYMORE QUESTION'S??

I mean, how can you top this?
NO ONE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Red Scarf was for the Soldiers who gave their life in Vietnam and the White Suit is for Hope
Add it up, you get a DEMIGOD!
Best of the best of the best. Pure heart and perfection in the most relevant and important song I’ve ever heard. Try to top this one!
You cannot!!
When Elvis sang this song he sang it as a message,he took it hard when MLK and Kennedy died.Elvis loved everyone
I went to Graceland in 2018. My girl is a huge fan of Elvis and we stood next to that white suit. It was the 50th anniversary of the special. Elvis cared for everyone. He was devastated when MLK got murdered. They didn't want him end the show with this song, but he refused to change his mind.
GOOD FOR HIM!!!!
This man melts your heart....I grew up with listening to him and till to this day it's always like hearing him for the first time...He brings tears to my eyes each time .He was always a great person...Body n soul... Amazing
I love Elvis fans. People who get it. Who look beyond the caricature that has spewed a thick fog over Elvis' true brilliance. I'm so grateful I finally looked beyond that fog.
Elvis sings, Martin luther king speaks. Now we are taking double power and unity, with you 1000%⚡
When people listen and engage with the music of Elvis, they all understand the legacy.
Elvis Presley sang that song in dedication to Martin Luther King Jr after he was killed. Did you know that Elvis really loved MLK Jr
This song "If I Can Dream" was a tribute to the late Doctor Martin Luther King who had just been assassinated ❤️❤️❤️
This song stirred people up Created conflict between parents and teens. It was a significant point in time that not only opened our eyes but moved us to do something to make the world a better place. The '60s were turbulent years but it changed a lot of things for the better. When I see so much emphasis on skin color today, I am baffled that we forgot what MLK and Elvis and Jack and Bobby Kennedy and all those people who stood up to authority...the establishment, to make the life better for everyone. Colorblind like Elvis.
Elvis is an Angel without wings.
This song was written special for Elvis, because the producer wanted to end this special ,with a song about how Elvis really felt about the senseless killing of MLk,and Robert Kennedy , and to bring peace for everyone ,now what is even special yet ,his manager said Elvis doesn't sing message songs, but Elvis said let me try it and after he recorded it ,he said from now on I will only sing songs that mean something to me that's why this will only be Elvis's song nobody else
No it was Tom that wanted Elvis to sing blue Christmas but Elvis wanted to sang this song. The colonel was pissed off when the king started singing this song.
@@terrygarcia897 uhh bro this is literally what this persons comment is conveying. Read again lol.
The colonel held him back so much
Ok I'm sorry about that. Thank you for your comments. Am always high on pot. Good night Graceland that's for the king. TX
Wrong ..... Elvis wanted to end it with a message from Elvis ...... Read my bigger post to get the facts correct ......
Rev. Martin Luther King had just been killed and the writer of the song met with Elvis - asked what he was feeling, etc., went home and wrote the song and presented it to Elvis the next. After Elvis did the above performance, the camera doesn't show but he went to his knees with TEARS IN HIS EYES. The Colonel wanted him to do a Christmas Carol instead. THANK GOD ELVIS WENT HIS INSTINCT. eLVIS WAS SO UPSET BECAUSE REV. KING WAS MURDERED IN MEMPHIS, ELVIS' HOME TOWN.
"If I can dream of a warmer sun...." is in reference to a poem by author Richard Wright, who himself moved from the South to Chicago, in the 1920s
I was leaving the South
to fling myself into the unknown...
I was taking a part of the South
to transplant in alien soil,
to see if it could grow differently,
if it could drink of new and cool rains,
bend in strange winds,
respond to the warmth of other suns
and, perhaps, to bloom.
- Richard Wright, Black Boy, 1945
This was by far his most passionate performance he ever made he put his heart and soul into this it was more than just a song for him...
💯 agreed
That was Elvis’s Tribute to Martin Luther King!😢
anyone else?
AND ROBERT KENNEDY -- “The song was not only inspired by MLK but by Robert Kennedy's assassination also -- it was after Kennedy's assassination that Elvis & producer/director Steve Binder had a long sit-down discussion, & Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song to reflect what had taken place (based on MLK's speech). Parker wanted a Christmas song (of course) but after Elvis looked at the song sheet he told Parker i want to give it a shot.”
Zappa troll how long did it take you to memorize everything? Hahahaha

So true my brother, that's why he's the King!!!
…Elvis was the first and the best! ... A millennium singer for eternity ... ✨💎✨ Thank you
He’s the king for a reason!
Elvis is the best ever…that VOICE, the passion & the man is gorgeous 🔥
It's so sad no matter what Elvis sang certain ppl would still call him a racist....He was for everyone...There are so many people that are hater's but we can't let that get us down...They walk around with a poison soul.....
I love this tribute to MLK! ❤ This was supposed to be a Christmas special .....Elvis ended the show with this song! He said it would be more impactful that way....he was right. They didnt want him to sing this due to racial tensions at the time. Check out "Elvis and the Black Community" documentary here on YT....it will give you some insight into who Elvis was. 😁 He put his heart & soul into this song!
We were so lucky to have him!
He is in your soul now!! So much more to discover from his lifetime👌💕🕺
Once this special ended, everyone was forced to sit down and watch one person take what he realized he was owed; the world.
Right before Elvis was set to do this Christmas Special in 68 he started to back out he was afraid he couldn't do it but he got himself together and put on an entire special that is legendary.
Elvis admired MLK! He was against segregation and loved the black community 🥰! You can feel his soul in the way he sings this song.
Going back and rewatching, getting my Elvis fix for the day 💙 Love looking at your first reactions to Elvis 💙 Ray if you’ve not watched already, watch Reinventing Elvis. Steve Binder talks about the making of this show and it’s such a good watch. Have a good day 💙
He is the Man 👍🏻🎶🎶🎶🎸
That song needs to be played to the WORLD NOW!! We need help!!!
Thank you so much for reacting to this magnificent song. Elvis sings with so much passion. Your reaction is priceless!!
His Song’s will ALWAY’S make you happy anytime you need a spiritual lift, go listen to Elvis.
He sang from his heart..Thank you for playing this timeless song.
The magic of ELvis ... welcome to his world !!!
Absolutely amazing...goosebumps...
That was a great reaction. Your comments are so awesome. I can tell you understand music you point out everything he does in his performance is on stage.BTW: if Elvis would’ve had you as his promoter and manager, he would have slide just like he sang the song in reference to Martin Luther King!!!👍👍👍👍👍🔥👑🙏🇺🇸⚡️🎸🎹🎶🎤

We need Elvis's dream to come true right now!!!!!! Hater's get over your-selves!!!! It can be a better world!!!!!!!

What a heartfelt reaction! RIP, King of Rock and Roll ...
I love watching your reaction to Elvis
Elvis was born and raised in poverty, he never ever forgot where he came from his dad even went to prison when he was little due to Vernon altering a check because they were so incredibly poor 😢people really should watch the video called Elvis and the black community ❤❤ so they can understand him better 😮
ELVIS is THE BEST FOREVER!!!!!!!

Love your reaction you,are so real God,bless you, and your family 👪 ❤ The GOAT. MR Elvis Presley, ☝👍👌🕺🎸🎤🇵🇷🇺🇲⚡TCB⚡🙏
To Elvis, his king is Jesus Christ
Oh, I almost fell off my chair I was laughing so hard how you were saying I’m screaming like one of those girls. It was coming out of my soul. His greatest gift he left us was how emotive he was & how he passionately sang. He grabs on to your soul and doesn’t let go until he gets you to feel what he’s feeling. I watched him my first time singing Bridge Over Troubled Water live 1970 & when he was done, the tears were rolling down my cheeks & I thought why am I crying? I wasn’t even aware I was crying. That’s how he affects you. Another great song by him he sings live is called In the Ghetto. It could have been written today. He even mentioned Chicago ghetto. 53 yrs ago he sang it & not much has changed. It’s amazing. He’s sung over 800 songs, so you’ll have plenty of choices. Some are so powerful. I’m not sure who you were talking to initially but if they question Elvis, there’s a documentary on U tube that many have reacted to called Elvis and the Black Community part one which clears up a lot. Also this yrs movie is great in teaching a whole new generation just what he was about. It’s on streaming now. Apple is the best because they have extras. But Prime Video & even U tube one can rent or buy. It’s also on DVD too. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. God bless.
ELVIS SHARED IN WRITING THIS WITH
HIS WRITERS. WHEN THEY STARTED TAPING SPECIAL IN JUNE OF 68 HE WAS VERY UPSET WENT IN A ROOM AND JUST WAS JUST TALKING AND ALOT OF HOW HE FELT INFLUENCED

AFEW MONTHS AFTER ROBERT KENNEDY WAS MURDERED. SO WHEN FINISH TAPING IN DEC. RESPECTFULL
WANTED TO DO IN A FORMAL WAY WITH THAT SUIT OUT OF RESPECT FOR BOTH MEN. TWO KENNEDY
WERE KILLED BECAUSE WHAT THEY STOOD FOR. THANK YOU FOR SUCH COMPASSION YOU

Thank you for your beautiful words about our idol.
This is why this great man is the KING 💕💕💕
MLK speech was before this. MLK was killed few months before he did this song. That’s why Elvis did it and why it was so fresh and painful for Elvis. Also, new Sub. Love you too.
This song was written specifically for Elvis. I read that the man who wrote the music, but not the lyrics, basically donated his time so he could record it.
I believe this was recorded around two months after the MLK death.
