"I'm not living... I'm just killing time." is one of the greatest lines I have ever heard in music. It really hits me during the personal struggles I am currently going through.
@@teamataraxia6244 Thanks for commenting. But honestly, I'm not. I have a lot of friends that I'm very thankful for, yet none of them know about my depression. None of them know that I've considered very serious things. None of them know any of my struggles over the past two years. I wish I had the strength to vent to them, but I just don't... and I don't think anything will get better anytime soon. I hope you're good. I return to this performance quite a lot.
and if anyone is wondering where they can find the full performance, there's another video on UA-cam that shows it all: ua-cam.com/video/gYHPplTwdw8/v-deo.htmlsi=f0OSfdCpxMtbmgm6 Cheers.
I’m a huge fan and have loved this song since seeing it live in 1995. It means as much as ever nearly 30 years later.. especially considering the grief and loss you experience over the decades. I first read the line “This isn’t living. This is just killing time” in the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I don’t know whether Thom was influenced by that, he may well have been, he’s well read. Although he’s obviously capable of coming up with genius on his own repeatedly.
I give so much credit to Thom for having the maturity to perform this song without tearing up. There is no way his heart wasn't broken when he wrote this.
There's nobody out there who can come out on the stage like that with jeans and a button down shirt... and give an acoustic performance like that with their eyes closed. It really is amazing, whether or not you're a Radiohead fan. I used to hope like 10 years ago that they'd record this song, but it's almost like a phantom now and I think that's why people always request it.
Amazing comment. I love seeing that kind of comments, because as someone who got into Radiohead at the "end" of their journey, seeing the imput of someone following their journey alongside Radiohead is amazing
Even though he messed up at 1:51, it genuinely sounded like a beautiful new piece to the song with immediate "I'm living" he didn't even waver either... just kept strumming beautifully
"This is a song that really didn't see much of the light of day, for a long time. And it sort of did, but, whatever, it needs to do it more. This is called true love waits!!"
This is the song that my girlfriend and I fell in love to and my biggest wish was to take her to a Radiohead concert. We broke up the day before the Coachella lineup was released... :(
everytime, i come back to this song, quite often actually, not the song’s lyrics but the melancholic melody just proves me again and again, how ‘true’ love could never be understood or expressed, it could only be felt through your heart and bloodstream. i guess we’re not evolved enough yet to understand love but it exists and we’ve understood a very very little of it’s meaning but we have made this ‘love’ very unnatural and with a selfish intent of our feelings and emotions but it is much more and beyond the level of our thinking and feeling. anyways i guess i’ll listen to this bittersweet and melancholic melody and feel it running through my heart and only get goosebumps. sigh.
Before I die there are two things I want to do; Travel the world, see Radiohead live. I will die with a smile on my face knowing I have seen life from a different perspective... well, until then it's google earth and youtube for me.
Their (radioheads) tunes are so melodic and addictive it feels like you are wandering down the rabbit hole. I am sure they have featured in so many good film soundtracks. What a band...
you just know there's bands out there who would kill to have this as a major release and dine out on the song for their whole career. yet radiohead haven't even bothered doing a studio recording of it. crazy.
i saw them at the roskilde festival this summer. it was a beautiful summer night and they played perfect. Liturally perfect. sad they did not play this song, but a perfect concert never the less and one for the ages. one of the best concerts in Denmarks history.

Yeah. You can hear the difference in the versions though. The connotation changes, the feeling shifts, but its still the same song. It is beautiful and sad.
You rarely hear such clear, unbridled joy from an audience at a rock concert. Listen to the audience when he introduces this song, the response is almost comical (but mostly heartwarming.)

Sometimes you go years thinking you'd be the subject of a song like this, only to wake up one day and realise you're the singer.
