Years ago I used to do contract work for a few dealerships in my area, the Nissan store still used these locks on the windows of their used cars. They'd usually stay on overnight and it wasn't uncommon that I'd show up before they started their day so I could get setup and inventory this weeks work. One day I noticed they had a box on a fairly new (at the time) maxima, the first generation that had the proximity keys. I walk up to the car thinking surely they're not that dumb. But they were, I was able to hit the button on the door, unlock said door grab the locked box from the window, start the car and drive it directly up in front of the sales floor where a very confused looking sales manager was standing. They stopped using lock boxes all together not long after that lol
@@lankymaccrazyhair264 when this thing was still in use the lock picking universe probably hadn't figured out how to tension it in order to pick it. That was probably it's biggest strength and the fact that you have to manually turn the cylinder in between core positions.

Nice work. Supra makes multiple types of boxes some older one with push buttons a-f and some with numbers. Also they make an old lockbox with the dial just like school combination locks. Would be cool to see those done as well. Thanks for making these vids.
Yes there is something very relaxing about lock picking. The small mechanical noises, the clicks, the tools, the experiences. You can literally watch his videos @ twice the speed without noticing it but you're loosing that ASMR effect.
CableTV lockbox in my old condo had this core on it to stop people from adding splitters they weren’t paying for. Never got around to picking it, but bypassed it by wedging the panel door open a bit and using a thin blade to spin the locking nut off the back of the actuator. Easy.
My dads bedroom door lock is serverly flawed. I took a paper clip. Straightened it out. Took a small flat head. And pushed up all the prongs. Then turned then unlocked.
Not that this has any bearing on the subject, but Supra is and has been owned by General Electric for some time now. The new lock boxes are more less computer controlled. I've had to cut a couple of them open, because they can become jammed. Good times with a 4 inch angle grinder. :-)
What I was in real estate the new boxes would have a battery die and the only way to remove them was destructively. Fortunately that was covered by Supra.
2009 I was 20. I worked at a car dealership that used that same exact lock box. They left car keys in it over night. People would cut that box off the window. Then come back a month later to steal a brand new challenger or ram
I know I'm late; but nobody picks them. They take a 3/8" bit and go straight thru the aluminum of the camlock. Takes about 10 seconds with a cordless drill.
I found a supra lockbox with a huge flaw.. it's a blue colored supra, but a simple bump on the bottom of the housing will cause the latch to fail. Feel free to contact me if you want me to send it out to ya

I have one of these it has a metal door covering lock and I have no key I guess I can try this I doubt I’ll get it 😂. Also have a similar smaller one of a different brand.
@@tomherron4334 I don't get this, if they are gonna remove them at night, store them and know which car each one was on.. why not just store the keys? this is lots of unnecessary work and if well organized they can find the key fast.
Huh. Most dealerships around here just leave the doors unlocked during the day so customers can get in and try the seats out but you have to go find a salesperson if you want to hear the engine because the keys are in back. Also the cars are parked so that simply driving one off is difficult without the cooperation of at least three others even if you had the key.

I love how this lock allows us to see very clearly exactly what is happening rather than imagining what's happening inside a lock.

@@sammichmanjr well, tensioning is.... Whenever he can get proper tension, locks seem to fear him and open by their own will.

@@karisasani7006 why would they fire him, he exposed a shit product they had bought to protect inventory, are you fucking daft???
Cool story
Oh I'm sure that happened
They've since added a rfi blocking metal container you put the keys in so you can't do that.
I kind of love how this super old lock was a tougher pick than most of the new offerings.
And, despite that, it's still not a great lock

i love how the key to picking this lock is using the back end of a tensioning tool and a broken pick
Pretty sure it could have been done with 2 broken picks. Or, really, any 2 stiff bits of metal that are of a relatively similar size.

I so can't wait to get my hands on one of these type locks, awesome again sir
My step father worked for Supra for years. Before that it was Multacc. Now hes a realtor, Interesting how life works.
Very cool lock and very unusual. Also cool that it's for a car. Easy for you as per normal. 🍺😎

Dude the ASMR factor in your videos is super high! Very relaxing.
Can you make an information video of the types of locks? like waffer and pin or the others.
Also listing the differences and pros and cons. Thank you

Although a lot of lockboxes have been removed, in the telecom world these are fairly standard.

I haven't seen one of those locks in at least 10-15 years at a car lot I did some work for

My grandpa used these same style lock boxes when he had his old dealership.

I remember those from when I wa a porter at a dealer... memories
there is this weird satisfaction from seeing this
