I definitely see why it's so popular. I only ever tried the prepackaged stuff. But it's was simply amazing and I agree that it would be the the one I'd pick if I could only eat one noodle dish.
Thanks for bringing up a somewhat alternative for people who don't like ginger. I'm Asian and people are shocked that I don't like raw ginger. I've never had jjajangmyeon before and I don't really cook, but you make it look less intimidating and makes me want to try it out. Thank you!

has become one my most favorite dishes thanks to your recipie , i also have the XXL jar of Black bean paste in my Fridge. Lasts forver so its a pretty good a cheap dish. I also add a ton of Garlic all the time . I also love it with the yellow daikon. I get it 1 KG bags this last for a long time. I used dry instant ramen noodles , the ones done in 3 minutes i got bag with 10 noddle potions no powder, also amazing with this and cheaper than buying ramen. Oh btw i'm in love with the spicey ramen tomato egsdrop soup ... a umani mix from heaven

I love jjajangmyeon but the pre frying the chunjang in a ton of oil keeps me from making it more than 1-2 times a year - gonna try this because I’d love to make it at home more than buying it from a restaurant!!! Thanks Aaron and Claire!!!

finally gave in n ordered the black bean paste off amazon ( used your affiliate link) and it turned out great . i used a couple strips of bacon instead of the ground pork ( i have texture issues with ground meat and don't like meat much anyway) , i also added a bit extra cabbage n 2 small zuchinni , it turned out amazing. my fiancee didn't mind it but hes put off by the color for some reason ... o well more for me , thanks a ton for this recipie!
i'll be trying to make tteokbokki with rice cakes from scratch (ordered the rice flour so hopefully it goes ok) fingers crossed with that one , that'll just be for me tho as he can't do spicy
