This was a very easy to follow DIY, you explained all aspects of sewing this skirt. I am a guy learning to sew an outfit for my daughter and wife and you made it so simple, thank you very much for this tutorial because it now gives me confidence which I did not have as much before viewing your tutorial.
This pattern was my first skirt pattern. The instructions are very easy to follow. I have made three skirts. I love So-Sew-Easy patterns and instructions.
I made it! It was my first project with a knit fabric. Not as hard as I had thought. I'm looking forward to seeing your other videos. Thank you so much for this video. I could not have done it without your tutorial. Even though this is an easy project, it still took me a while as I am learning and everything is new. I do need easy projects like this one. I plan to make more of these as it is comfortable and looks nice.
This tutorial was well explained in simple easy to follow instructions. I have been looking how to make a stretch pencil skirt so many thanks teacher. X
very easy to follow instructions. I have some old dresses that are a knit fabric and out of style. I'm going to make skirts from them. Thank you for the video 😊.
It would be helpful if you showed the final skirt on to see how it ended up from a fitting standpoint. I'm not sure that adding 3 inches to the waist width makes for a very nice fit using a knit so it would have been great to see how it fit you.
Nice shaping advice. Very disappointed, though, that there wasn't a final reveal of you wearing the skirt so we could have a better idea how the shaping actually looks when finished. Otherwise a good tutorial.
The fabrics are beautiful and you are so clear with your instructions. I'm glad you Subscribed to my channel which brought me to yours. This is really a very good tutorial. And the end result, very pretty. Thumbs up!
Hi Debbie, how would I go about adding a flare on the bottom of this skirt like a trumpet skirt style, I have a skirt I purchased, made of knit materials it is straight like this one but at the bottom it flares out with triangles. I'd love to make one but don't know how. Thanks Debbie Little
Went to fabric link and don't know if this is jersey or knit or how much stretch. Is it 20% or 40% or 50% stretch? Can't find pattern and used the link. I would buy the fabric if I could find it.
the hem looks like a straight stitch, is that right? I'm so happy to find this tutorial. I have a pretty 4 way stretch purple paisley that I think will look great with this pattern. oddly enough your measurements are the same as mine so the math is done! If you still look at this, it's been a couple years since you posted, I would like to be sure about the hem stitch. thanks so much. Debbie, silverado, california
For sewing knits, you have to do a very narrow zig zag stitch. On most machines, you can adjust both the width and length of the stitch. Make the zig zag the most narrow it can go. Hope this can still help as you posted a year ago. :-D
Why did you mark 9" on both sides? Was that the difference between your waist and your hips? I'm short so my difference is 7"; therefore, would I mark 7" on both sides?
If your hips are 47", then you need 47" + 2" +/- for ease and a seam allowance of 5/8". Total 49 5/8" wide rectangle. There is a variable of how much ease (room for comfort) is needed. Depends on the stretch of the fabric and how much comfort is desired. (Tight fitting or more loose fitting.) Hope this helps.
This one is from here - www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7018035/type/dlg/www.fabric.com/buy/0302021/laguna-stretch-cotton-jersey-flower-dark-grey It really does feel very nice too, very soft.
For the woven fabric you'd need to be rather more precise and include some ease and darts. I've got a step by step on how to make a custom fit woven skirt here - so-sew-easy.com/making-a-pencil-skirt-sloper/

What a great skirt. I'm going to make a long one and use my surger.
Thank you for making it easy!
I love how you added shaping to the skirt....I just have to sew it up tomorrow and probably even the sides a bit with rotary cutter then sew 😊

Can instead sew wide waist hem, wide enough for 3/4 inch elastic to be pulled through with safety pin or tied to crochet needle.

I'm just experimenting with learning how to sew and this tutorial is great. Made me far less intimidated
Do you think these dimensions will work for a less stretchy fabric. Not much give to my fabric. Would I need to add more fabric for the hips?
Thank you for a great video I found it very easy to follow
Very nice tutorial. Just what I was looking for.
Hi
Really fabulous tutorial. Can I use this tutorial with poly cotton fabric?
Thank you Suzanne
I love your tutorial! ❤️ Thank you!!!
Did you go back and zig-zag the seams?
I love the print. Great video.

Why did you mark 9" on both sides? Was that the difference between your waist and your hips? I'm short so my difference is 7"; therefore, would I mark 7" on both sides?
Jamie Treuting I know I'm not who you asked, but I am a sewing teacher. Yes, mark at 7".
Jamie Treuting yes plus 1" for waistband. So 8"
Thank you! well explained
Thanks!

yo love it u can teach very good
excellant video!
So, how big is the fabric you spread on the table, if my hips are 47 inch then I cut 47 widht rectangle?

Where do you get your beautiful fabric?
This one is from here - www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7018035/type/dlg/www.fabric.com/buy/0302021/laguna-stretch-cotton-jersey-flower-dark-grey
It really does feel very nice too, very soft.
Thank you so much
Thanks! This is very helpful.
Looks easy
Can you use this same technique with woven fabric as opposed to knit?
For the woven fabric you'd need to be rather more precise and include some ease and darts. I've got a step by step on how to make a custom fit woven skirt here - so-sew-easy.com/making-a-pencil-skirt-sloper/
Wanted to see you wearing it at the end to see the fitted outcome... 😕
11:35 Cool trick!
