I had a few skirts like that when i was a young girl, mum made for me!!! Then i made myself a few as i grew older they are comfortable and easy to wear, no zips or panels!!! I also cut down a few dresses i no longer wore and gathered them with elastic in the waistline!!!

Back in the 1950s, I wore homemade skirts almost like your's to school. Mine were made from cotton. Thank you for showing me how good these skirts look. This type of skirt would be perfect for Summer. I don't wear shorts or short pants. Long, pull on skirts will be perfect. I need to get my T-shirts out and go shopping for fabric to match my best T-shirts. I thought at first that you had made a matching blouse to match your skirt. Making a matching blouse of the same fabric and print will give me the look of a dress. Plus the skirt and blouse may be worn with other tops and bottoms. Thank you for this wonder idea nd video.

I prefer cotton, cottons are for summer. If you look at hot countries, they only use natural fabrics like cotton & linen. Plastics like polyester make you sweat because it holds in the heat, plus it’s not biodegradable.

After I successfully completed that 7th grade Home Ec class, in early 1960's, I was told to make all of my clothes... with 1 piece of advice by my mother...ONLY cut out what you can sew up, immediately.
So, I was able to make my wardrobe from then on. Even charged a quarter, in college, for sewing patches on jackets & bluejeans... we didn't let ripped jeans stay ripped, back then.
All she really wanted was for me to KNOW how to be responsible for HER light green Singer, in HER mahogany cabinet...including how to keep it clean!

My hips are a size larger than my tops so dresses either have to be homemade or altered. Thus I usually wear skirts and tops.I usually prefer mid calf length - I'm 73, so legs no longer good looking. Thank you for this very simple method to make a skirt.

Thank you so much for this video. You make sewing a skirt look too easy. My abilities are so bad, my mother said she didn’t have the patience to teach me, and she was right. I retained nothing from my sewing lessons. She passed a few weeks ago and watching this video reminded me of her. She made me the most gorgeous dress and also my bridesmaid dress for my friend’s wedding. She was truly gifted.
Im going to get some fabric and give this a go. Thank you, again.

My favorite outfit is a flowy skirt, camisole, and cropped short sleeve light sweater or thin bolero style over piece. So when I saw your outfit I was like YES! This is mine kind of sewing! I have just the fabric for it too, waiting to be made. And that’s exactly how I do elastic to keep it from twisting.

You have inspired me! I first began making my own clothes in 1965, and continued until I began quilt construction in 1995. I have not made a garment since then. I do, however, have a beautiful piece of knit fabric that would result in a lovely skirt. It wouldn't take long to do. I just need to buy elastic for the waist. Thank you for sharing this today. Nina in Wichita, Kansas.

Nina Trusty be careful, those trips for elastic can get costly in the fabric store.
That material looks nice, oh it feels nice, one skirt and new quilt fabric or two or ten maybe. I think material store should come with a warning, Enter at your own risk. 😃😄😅😉

Thanks for the tutorial. That's an easy way to make a skirt. Lovey it. My Mom was great in making any type of clothes. Even seeing in a catalogue something she liked and rapidly it was ready. Her sewing machine is mine now and I use it a lot makes me have fond memories of her. Sigh. But readily I say I'll never get to sew perfectly as she did. It's one of my hobbies now.

I made a similar skirt in 7th or 8th grade Home-Ec class I had finished the assigned project and there was still a week or so left in the sewing portion of the class before we switched to the cooking portion so this was an assignment that kept me busy while the others were still struggling with their own projects. Back then 60 inch fabrics were not the norm so mine ended up a lot tighter, harder to take big steps.
Mom taught us (three girls) how to sew when my older sister was in Home-Ec class three years earlier and I was already making some of my own school clothes by the time I took the class.

I thought one yard of fabric was going to be plenty for the two of them as they want mini skirts but after watching your tutorial they are going to have the best skirts now and I most definitely need more fabric. I think I’ll make a practice one first to be on the safe side as the fabric they have chosen wasn’t cheap and I’d hate to mess that fabric up. Blessings

Really enjoyed your video. Your skirt turned out so nice. You are so pleasant to listen to and seem so nice. I am petite too, in height. I've made many such skirts over the years. They're fun and easy. Tho some of my methods of sewing such a project are different than yours when finished they end up with the same results, a cute, simple skirt. Ive gotten to the point where I more enjoy the drapier fabric rather than the stiff cottons. I'm thinking of making a 18th century style full length skirt, but modernizing the pattern just a bit...best wishes. Happy sewing!

You can also pick up dresses in charity shops, chop the bottom off and add elastic/tie to the top. I’ve found some really beautiful older fabrics that way.
