- Definition and meaning of a Honda P0497: Evaporative Emission System Low Purge Flow Diagnostic Trouble Code as well as fixes.
Causes of a Honda P0497 DTC:
Purge Valve
Charcoal Canister
Gas Cap
Leak or clogged line
Thank you. My daughter neglected to tighten the gas cap. I think that was the only issue. Very grateful to you. God bless you.
I wish all youtube videos were as good as this one. No BS. To the point. Thanks!
This was a very helpful video.
Thank you sir.
Great video. To the point and concise. Much appreciated!
Best explanation I’ve seen on this issue!
Very informative and to the point.
Much appreciated. Having this issue on my '15 Civic Si
Great video
In all honesty, If you get this code, I would start with the fuel cap, because it's the cheapest & go from there 🤷🏾♀️
When O'Reilly told me what code they read an older mechanic that was there said... "Sounds like a bad fuel cap"! Lol
Very helpful video... Thank You!!
Nice video thank you very much for making it.
Could fueling up with the car running also trip this code then?
I'm wondering about that too, because I been fueling up while running & now I'm getting this code in my Accord 😩
Very nice video!
I’ve a question, could it be possible that evap (charcoal) canister can be full of gas if people full the gas tank too much?
I’ve an ep3 and I have a p0497 code lighting 50% of my travels.
I’ve not heard it in the video and i think it may help others too.
No
Yes this is possible. Topping off and then doing a pull or punching it can cause a code especially if you're modded. I know from experience. So I wouldn't top off too much or punch it when your tank is all the way full
Question; you stated that the purge valve is on when the engine is running. Do you mean it is always on when the engine is running or does it cycle on and off as needed? FYI I replaced a faulty evap purge solenoid and I am still getting a P0497. I did confirm the valve coil was bad - very high resistance (~18 Mega ohms). The new valve had a low resistance
It varies depending on the year and engine when the purge valve opens up, usually after the engine warms up, but it can vary. It is closed when the engine is off or the intake will be flooded with gas vapors.
I would think that the purge valve would cycle on and off while the engine is running depending on the pressure sensor.
My understanding is the pressure sensor sensor is the only way the on board computer knows if the vapor pressure changes positive or negative.
I question since I replaced the original valve because the coil was bad. The new purge valve failed within about a week I surmise due to a failed coil. I did confirm voltage to the valve but the valve did not open indicating a bad coil most likely.
I will be replacing it again with the same aftermarket Dorman valve.
If the valve is meant to cycle with the pressure sensor but if the pressure sensor is bad then maybe the new valve burned out because it overheated.
I'm only guessing but it would make sense the valve should cycle cycle on when it senses a positive pressure and off when the pressure drops.
If you are not sure of the answer that's okay.
When I again replace the purge valve and if it burns out in a week or two, I will need to consider whether the pressure sensor might be bad. Thanks for your feedback.
Would it also cause a low oil pressure light to come on and off?
No needs oil or oil sensor
I changed mine same code came back on 😢
me too lol i might just bring it to the dealership
Changed which part
? He listed 5 possible parts
@@chrispaul1117purge valve sensor
Purge valve, evap cannister, gas cap, hoses in your system... especially near the connection, and finally the file tank pressure sensor could be bad
Hey there! I am showing codes P145C and P0497 and replaced the purge valve solenoid with a rock auto replacement. My engine light is still on and I’m still getting horrible mileage. Is it common for the vent solenoid to go bad?
A P145C Code is a Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor. When the pressure sensor goes bad it sends bad data to the computer so it thinks there is an EVAP issue. There is likely no issue just a bad pressure sensor.
@@whyingo7964 I’m definitely getting horrible mileage since this has happened. I’m lucky to get 200 miles for a tank of gas where I used to get over 300 miles for city. Could the bad fuel sensor cause this? If so is it hard to change?
@@recbone1999I have the same codes did you ever get this fixxed??
@@Sxhwiftyy unfortunately no. I’m driving around with the engine light on and getting horrible gas mileage. If you figure it out please let me know 🙏🏼
@@recbone1999 any luck with this yet bro?
