The first video of yours I ever watched was the video of you saving Slinky after he spent the night out of his box. You were heart broken, I was in tears. And then he survived. About every 6 months I go back and watch that video. It's my favorite sad movie with a happy ending 😊

Yeah, maybe some epiphytes in the trees. The color really brings that tropical look. Maybe some sphagnum moss balls . Even little details make the look. Your place stands out from the others, great job !!

Put that bromeliad on to your tree stump or driftwood where the water may run under or pass through to rehydrate. Itbloves the sun but it also needs water. The sedum i think is great snack for tortoise... best to keep it on sunny spot if ur keeping it on moist soil. I feel good u started filling your enclosures with plants. These plants not only creates the feel of their natural habitat but also help keep them healthy and u continuously inspired and energized as fauna does to people😊

In nature many bromeliads -like many orchids are epiphytes that root in crevices of trees high up in the jungle canopy where organic matter accumulates. They like their planting medium well-drained and the “cup” in the center retains water that the bromeliad can utilize as needed. Several species of jungle frogs (especially poison dart frogs) raise their tadpoles in the center of the plants within the water reservoirs there.

Just some advice… The ones you planted in the rock wall were the ones that like the shaded area better! And the sedum you planted in slinkies water like well draining soil…. So basically just swap those spots!😊

When I was physically able I gardened madly. Not only was it great fun to learn as much as I could about something new, it also allowed me to work out stress, even grief, to feel at peace, and to improve my ability to meditate (I’m much better doing so in movement). It was an outlet for creativity and a place to experience the beauty of plants up close, to see insects and small animals closely, as well, and brought me such joy. Plants are good teachers. WARNING! It’s addictive!

“Butterfly gardens” are amazing. I’ve planted one for everyone I know and their mothers with outdoor spaces. Buddleia davidii (aka; summer lilac, butterfly bush), cultivated orange milkweed (and/or wild purple variety) are necessities. Also, assorted perennials & annuals (ie; rudbeckia, phlox, zinnia, cosmos, etc) create an easy-to-grow plot which will attract the endangered Monarchs - obligate milkweed feeders as well as other butterflies, insects, birds and provide shelter for various herp species.

This was a really fun video. I love creating natural looking landscapes. You might want to keep an eye on the mosses planted in the limestone. If the soil gets too acid from the rock dissolving, the plants might get unhappy. There's stuff you can get to bring the pH back closer to 7.

"jungle cactus" would be a good plant to put inside the enclosures also. They are mostly arboreal plant that doesn't take much water. What i was thought when i started keeping them is they like to see the sun but don't like the sun. the dark places that don't get any sun would be perfect for them. Bromeliads hold a reservoir of water in the center of the plants that they use as needed. All these plants bloom for long periods as well.

Speaking of Tanner next time he comes down you must introduce him to Tom Holt You have to you have to bring them over to Tom's place and show him Tom's setup and you have to go to introduce him to Jerry you have to have to have to! half a meet those two people also if you ever get up to Georgia you're going to have me Greg the turtle guy and since he's up lives up in that neck of the word you got to introduce him to garden state Taurus chris and Oh God I can never remember her name but Chris's wife I'm just battle names folks because my one downfall is trying to remember pictures names I'll probably remember in like about 5 hours ago oh yeah her name I better then it's too late to put in the host but anyway let them know about Tanner and have Tanner meet them sometime you know tell them where they are so he can get to them and visit them sometime because he'll love their setup. I love their setup he's very similar to yours cannon except for the winter time and they have to bring these animals indoors more often than you do and more permanently than you do you have at least some days during the winter where you can let some of your animals out and enjoy the sunlight that they can't not at all not unless it's 90 degrees though and they don't want to bother because by the time it they get them all out it's time to bring them all back in and God knows if you can find them all So let's put it just to keep them in doors all winter. but anyway you got to have tanner meet Jerry and Tom above all else and I don't know if he's met Thai Park yet he'd meet Tai and Ty's amazing setups and this will all just be fodder for Tanner he'll just come back oh my god I saw this this this this and this and this is what I liked about that and let me build a version of that. and what's wild is he's friends with Mikey Busto who's off in the tropics of Southeast Asia Somewhere and he does this gentle ants Canada and he does amazing stuff he just did a 1000 gallon terrarium earlier this year with various inspecies and animal species and plants and he just added a second addition on to it to make a canopy area so he can have Weaver ants and trees and stuff coming up through his house to the second floor it's amazing it's all encased in glass and he has all sorts of jumping spiders and praying mantises and roaches and crickets and you name it he's got a he's got lots of lizards He doesn't have any monitors though Let me put it this way this is where slinky would come from so Malaysia Indonesia SE Asia India that kind of area and with the crop monitors who come from and I don't think he wants to pair those he's got a baby came in in there for now it's only about 6 inches long he got it from a friend of his named from South Africa dingo Dinkelman I don't know if you ever heard him he works with Crocs so if you ever get to South Africa you might want to meet him he's just a big crocs the Nile Crocs I don't know if he works with any salty's but he definitely worth with the Niles and they're big I mean the ones he's workin anyway I can't wait for your next video which should be out sometime today later you have a great day cannon talk to you soon bye bye. g with their heads are about half the size of his body true they're like Getting close to 20 feet you know the kind like eat wildebeest the ones that used to watch as a kid crossing the Mara River you know the the wild the beast and the zebras and the crocs would come up and snag them and your dad used to call to go Ken in the crocs are running those are the kind he works with so Mikey Bustu is friends with Tanner and Mikey's friends with Dingo Dingleman so that's why you can how you can network with them since December of last year 2023 he started setting up in like November and you've been adding species ever since it's a great show it's very educational it'd be great for Sophia and Leo to watch if they're interested in ants he's certainly be jealous of your number of species from fire ants which he knows his are invasive they're invasive in his country too and all sorts of crazy and black crazy ants yellow crazy ants which are also invasive in his country he's trying to promote native species in his own acreage I don't know how much land he has but it's a good amount he built his home in the last few years pretty much he started during COVID so it took longer than he expected because of COVID the material supplies and all that stuff but it's a really good channel I think you like it they come out and usually supposed to be every Saturday at 8:00 PM eastern time US but it tends to get delayed a day or two so usually Sundays by 10:00 PM or 10:00 AM or Monday the next day the lid is one ever saw it was like Tuesday at 10:00 o'clock in the morning so it was like three days late but usually they're much much pretty much on time but if Leo and Sophia ever needs science lessons and insects that's the channel to go to by the way how's Doom doing and just we'll do eat ants is he like any of the Australian or American aunt eating reptiles Like the spiky ones like the **** codes or the I figure what they call them in Australia but they are real spiky I know bearded dragons lead just about anything plants insects

Kenan I have a tiny painted turtle what's a good planted plant for a water tank I tried a regular plant and it wasn't so good too many nitrates clouded water I added two water hyacinths but I want to put plants in that can go in the water and root into the soil or into the substrate, would it be harmful to find water plants in a pond I know they carry microbes in small animals

    • @BTQ410
      @BTQ410 3 місяці тому +2

I know I am answering a question directed at Kenan, but I keep aquariums. I would recommend an anubias which will grow planted in water, but will grow in wet areas outside of water. They are also considered easy to grow. They are slow growers too so not much maintenance. Anubias are epiphytes which means you don’t want to plant the roots in soil, but instead stick them in a crevice or use a dot of gel superglue and glue it to a rock or piece of wood. This means the pull nutrients out of water and will help filter your tank. The leaves are also tough so the turtle may not want to eat them. You can find a large variety of anubias at most places that sell aquariums products or pond products. Anubias petite or Anubias nana are popular and stay small, leaves about an inch in length and grows to a height of 2-3 inches. For a bigger variety Anubias barteri or consensus grows 6 - 8 inches with 3 - 4 inch leaves. For large, grow to a height of 12-18 inches and have leaves that are 5-6 inches in length, there are Anubias gigantea and Anubias hastifolia. These are just a few of the Anubias, but there are a bunch more, so if you don’t find these varieties you can try others. Anubias are also pretty inexpensive, but if you want rarer varieties, you can find variegated or other rare varieties, but remember, rare = pricier.

I live in the middle of the desert, so I can only grow succulents. I tried to have a container garden once, and my water bills were so high, even when I supplemented with rain cache (which is rare enough). Everything died anyway. No wonder everything here has to grow in a greenhouse with desalinated sea water and drip irrigation. Shalom from Israel!

We have been watching your videos for a long time. Thank you for being you. We live in a mobile home park, and since my husband has never been able to stop planting, our yard is a beautiful jungle. People admire it, and it's so good for our ecosystem. Plant away beautiful man 🌿

Just finished a herpetology course and about to begin a wetland and riparian ecology course. Your channel is a breath of fresh air from listening to lectures and reading textbooks. I learn just as much here.

Slinky’s enclosure is gorgeous. It’s ideal habit and looks great. I think one thing I love most about the Kamp is the natural esthetic. ❤

I love planting . From selecting the plants , to finding just the right spot. They make those yard mesh, you can wrap it around the rootball to hold it together while roots take over. Great for those rock crevices. Since it is not real rock, there are no natural crevices. The soil will wash off with the rain , and watering.
Oh , the fun you will have doing all that working
Thank you Tom for helping Kenan out. I hope he can reciprocate your generosity.

A couple small holes might be drilled in the universal rock crevices to aid in drainage.

I’d really enjoy a new video with the African cichlids and maybe adding them to the front pond with the turtles, but obviously a swim with them in the recreation pond.

When I hear you talking that you need some clouds and rain I‘m thinking that we here in Germany need sun and higher temperature. It feels almoust like autumn with the low temperatures and all the rain. 😕
I love seeing how curious Slinks is! ❤

awesome, I dig plants too, though selaginella is commonly called a moss it is not really moss, some of them are really beautiful, I have some in one of my dart frog vivariums.

Its going to look awesome. I was wondering if in those pockets that you are packing plants in if you should drill a small hole to prevent them from flooding out?
