I am 66 years old and live in PA. I have a male box on my property since I have been 9 years old. He loves the vegetables from my garden. He comes to me like a dog!!!!!!
I love Chris and Casey’s place. There’s so much to see and if you get bored, that’s because you don’t belong there! They’re turtles and tortoises (along with their other animals) are very loved and cared for❤
My dad lives on Cape Cod and always has strawberry patches. I was in there one day and heard, "CHOMP, CHOMP, CHOMP..." So I look around and see the cutest box turtle chowing down on a fat strawberry, eyes closed in happy oblivion! 😂 It was adorable!
Yes, turtle episode. Watching while I prepare my Western box babies breakfast! My girls are rescues that were brought to me injured, and I have my max of 5 since there's no way of my knowing where their home territory is..
I have a box turtle that i rescued from work. She came in thd back garage door and was just walking around the building. I tried to find a rescue for her, there are a lot of tractors where i work at the boat factory, but conservation said i either had to release her to get run over or take her home as a pet. I took her home and she is the bravest reptile i have ever met. She isnt afraid of anything! Not even the cats. She never goes into her shell unless i play with her mouth. She lets me clean her fave and everything. Best pet i have ever had. I wish i could post pics in the comment section to show you all the looks she gives the cats when they mess with her enclosure
I live in Odessa Tx we have the ornate box turtles. I just love them. I have had one female in my backyard for over thirty years. When I walk out back they come from all directions it’s just amazing how wonderful and smart they are.
Glad you let Forrest come over to your camp... Found your channel thanks to that visit and I am loving the content you document and create. Education and information is the largest thing lacking with all these species. The more we know the better informed decisions we can make and help the species be protected in their natural ranges/environments.
Awesome! Thank you so much! And welcome to the Kamp! We'll keep sharing and teaching and meeting other keepers so that everyone's knowledge grows together!
Absolutely amazing! As a child, I would visit an aunt who lived in Baltimore (when it still had woodland patches) and her dog would routinely bring us box turtle "gifts" that we would return to the woods. To see the variety of both appearance and behavior in just one type of turtle from just one area of the earth is so much more than impressive.
I grew up a herper in coastal NY this century, and these tales of abundant, easy to find box turtles are torment! A box turtle is the highlight of any day in the field during which one is found. I can count how many eastern box turtles I've seen in NY on one hand. They still seem to be doing okay in the Carolinas, and I've seen ones or twos in NJ and MA... but they're a rarity, and as your host said - very disjunct, occurring only in little isolated pockets.
I loved the video. I used to find these Eastern box turtles when I was a kid those are some awesome species of box turtles I still see a few of Eastern box turtles every now and then thank you guys so much respect for you all
Peter Pritchard was also just about the nicest person to talk with. He worked for years with Dr. Archie Carr and would run interference for him. Great team, indeed. Oh, and BTW, the White on the Male Yucatan Box Turtles comes shockingly early in life if they are in good conditions.
I just think that world needs more turtle & tortoises, the markings and colours are beautiful! Great episode seeing these little wonders ! Take it easy Kenan 💯
My friend, forgive my posting on this video. How us Mr. Guapo doing? I think about him all the time, hoping he's not in pain & is recovering. He is such an awesome dude!
I always enjoy your videos Kenan! I currently have a crested gecko and a blue tongue skink, I really admire your redfoot tortoises. I really do like box turtles they are a amazing odd creature. But anyways thanks Kenan for inspiring me to get a reptile!
Great video - it would be interesting to have you explain where each turtle species came from as in how you acquired it originally - surrenders, confiscations, etc. Especially the more rare ones and/or the ones from Mexico.
I love box turtles. There was a gorgeous female Eastern outside my apartment, which butted up to a wooded tree line around a stream, and it was my very first ever seeing one. And unfortunately the only time. We do have a trio of ornate desert box turtles that came from a not so great home before us. So they're missing claws and toes. 😢 But are living their best life with us now. So many awesome species. Awesome video.
This was such an awesome educational box turtle video.I always loved box turtles. Before you leave can you do a feature on the Egyptian tortoise my very favorite 😍. 👀💚🐢🐢🐢🐢
An excellent video. Very informative and fun to watch. Could you call the Yucatan Box Turtle, sorta kinda, leucistic (spelling?)? And the the last turtles you showed, their carapace pattern is sorta kinda reminiscent of Star and Radiated tortoises. Or do I need spec's!?
What happened with Matt? I feel like I haven't seen him in a while. And then you have Tom. But I thought he just stopped working with Jerry. All friends but curious what the story is. Thank you Kenan. This also brings back memories of catching turtles in North Jersey. Keep up the amazing content. Always puts a smile on my face :)
He mentioned a while back that he wanted to save money and couldn’t have Matt as a cameraman anymore. Now we get unsteady videos from Kenan recording by himself
I just made a video about my top five reasons why I love box turtles lol only has a few views but you all are inspiration to me to keep working with the animals I love !
I raise and breed three toed box turtles and all my females have beautiful speckled carapaces my males are speckled as well with only one male having the plain olive carapace but his facial markings are a dark black and red which makes him stand out among them all.
There isn't anything manmade about morphs either lol. It's all nature and random genetic mutation. Hell, many animals have morphs that occur in the wild in small populations. Not arguing for or against "designer" animals, everyone has preference, but even some phenotypes very much considered "natural" (Bells Phase Lace Monitors, Spinytail Iguanas, etc) are some recessive gene or combination thereof. Just food for thought, awesome vid and awesome torts!!!
Now he just needs the Coahuilan and the spotted box turtle and his Pokédex will be complete 😂 Edit: there’s an extinct box turtle, the Putnam’s box turtle, which was similar in size to a gopher tortoise and in fact some scientists believe that the gulf coast box turtle is a hybrid of the eastern and Putnam’s box turtle
If only they were legal, to have Mexican and Yucatan boxes would be super cool! And I love my own Ornates, super easy and super awesome to own pets that are gonna outlive me. Hence, I spoil them with an outdoor enclosure with plenty of food and hiding spots.😎
Kenan I live in Miami love your videos and I was wondering if the box turtles in swamps of florida are allowed to possess look like the one in video box turtle and what is the name ❤
The answer is no, unless you have a permit or license you can receive a hefty fine for keeping a Florida box turtle in captivity. Check your local laws anywhere in the US, laws change from state to state.

I love how the turtles always look like they’re saying “put my DOWN!”😂
The air swimmies 😂 Tbf, they are basically suspended upon their bellies. Maybe better if their legs were supported, but idk how that'd go

I think boxies are adorable. They are tons of fun in a little shell❤❤❤❤
Everyone should check out Garden State Tortoise. Otis the eastern box turtle is the coolest thing ever.
Peter Pritchard was also just about the nicest person to talk with. He worked for years with Dr. Archie Carr and would run interference for him. Great team, indeed. Oh, and BTW, the White on the Male Yucatan Box Turtles comes shockingly early in life if they are in good conditions.
Whoever says Science is an absolute has never attempted to keep up with North American Box Turtle taxonomy.
Waitin on Chris to ship my baby eastern :) first turtle, so excited and honored to be able to support such an impactful individual.
Always good when we get Tom behind the camera!
Y'all went full on turtle nerds for a minute. 😂🤣😂🤣
I just think that world needs more turtle & tortoises, the markings and colours are beautiful! Great episode seeing these little wonders ! Take it easy Kenan 💯

I love the eastern box turtle, I helped one across the road 2 weeks ago near our local dump, someone would have hit it for sure if I hadn't helped it

I'm pretty sure if you dump box turtle into the water, it's like a rock..Drown😢😮
Uk weather not favable to keep torts/turtle. I'd love to know if any species would do well
Garden State Tortoise was there recently and did a few videos (in the last month). They visited an amazing facility. Check them out.

Are you and Chandler still friends
💚🩷🩵
Dont throw a turtle in the middle of a lake... its like something a teenager would do for sure
Yeah and crazily people love to purposely hit turtles with their car I don't understand that
Lol i see way more rare turtles than common snakes here it's horrible.
I love when they pick up turtles and tortoises and their stubby legs stay moving and flapping..
