Nice to see so many fans are enjoying this! Would be honored to get a medal, so long as the ribbon is plaid. Alternatively, my venmo is open to anyone who wishes to leave a tip :) @austintolin
Without these guys so many popular subgenres of rock that today's youth take for granted wouldn't even exist (grunge, emo etc.) Truly mindblowing that these guys dont get due credit for what they've contributed to music
credit where credit is due, they did have a lot of influence through their attitude and playing, but grunge and emo would still exist. it was a collective effort of the 80s scene to bring what we go in the 90s
@@t-man5196 no they weren't dipshit. GREEN RIVER. Mats aren't even from the pacific north West. And Embrace is where Emo starts. Please stop lecturing on shit youknow nothing about.
Did he hilariously fade on the "buss" to intentionally sound like "kiss me on the butt"? Love the video! Still wearing Mats (and Big Star & Hüsker Dü tshirts) around NYC. A good way to strike up great stories with people who get it.
Man, just found this. The fucking energy from the get-go on Takin' A Ride gave me chills, dude. Was lucky enough to be in the states from Australia when they played ACL in Texas back on this tour and I was so thankful to be there. Rock 'n rock saves, man.
My dad died in 2012 at the age of 60 & it crushed me for a long time. Seeing my favorite band ‘The Replacements’ at riot-fest 2013 (Chicago) was the only fun I had for a year or two. Thanks for posting this.
One of the best cell phone video edits I've ever seen or heard. Huge thanks ! Oh, and Josh Freese is a monster player and imo he took the songs to a new level. I mean NIN, Devo and The Replacements among others is an awesome pedigree to have. Just an incredible performance, 100%.
I saw this show, the Midway show and the Fillmore Denver show on the reunion tour. This was by far the best. It was new to them, they were having fun, etc.. By the Fillmore show PW was so over it - it was kind of painful...but Whole Foods Blues was funny..
This is amazing. The transition from Jingle Jangle to Color Me Impressed makes me understand exactly why people would go see these guys in the 80s even when it was a gamble that they'd be goofy and shitty. MATS, TOUR AGAIN
As far as I know, he refused to rejoin the band. Josh Freese is an awesome addition either way! If I could have asked anyone else to fill in, it would be him every time
This is Blowing me away. Been hitting the 'Mats hard since the reissue and this is like such a pleasant surprise. Definitely gonna hit ur Venmo dude...THANKS!
Glad you enjoyed! Of all the reunion shows with footage from multiple angles available, this seemed to be the one with the best potential for an edit 😃
thanks for this ... i was at the Riot Fest show in Chicago ... they didn't wear the cowgirl outfits @ that show , but they sounded great ... again, thanks for this ... made my day watching this
Very nice job, thanks! 10 years already since the warm day plunged to cool night in that pasture. Waiting for them while AFI rattled my teeth from the sockets. Still Riot fest was a great choice for the return.
I'm having flashbacks to that AFI set, when I just kind of disassociated for over an hour while getting crushed in a sea of people. But once it was over, I made it to the front row for the Mats!
That's Dave Minehan on guitar and Josh Freese on drums. Both played live with Westerberg during his solo period. Josh also played drums on the I Don't Cares - Wild Stab album (Westerberg and Juliana Hatfield's project from 2016.)
When did folks start calling them The Mats ??? I do remember, from their Twin Tone days we jokingly called them the ReplaceMats, but had no idea about The Mats thing.
Me and a couple buddies packed into a car and drove down from Canada for this show.. One of the greats I'll never forget, thanks for putting the work in so I can relive it again 👌
Whoever took the time to put this together deserves a medal 🎉
Nice to see so many fans are enjoying this! Would be honored to get a medal, so long as the ribbon is plaid. Alternatively, my venmo is open to anyone who wishes to leave a tip :) @austintolin
Thank you! Between this video and the reissue of Tim, it's all Mats all the time over here 😁
Without these guys so many popular subgenres of rock that today's youth take for granted wouldn't even exist (grunge, emo etc.) Truly mindblowing that these guys dont get due credit for what they've contributed to music
Bullshit.
@@QuickhistoryEdword nope, they were the first grunge band, the first emo band etc
credit where credit is due, they did have a lot of influence through their attitude and playing, but grunge and emo would still exist. it was a collective effort of the 80s scene to bring what we go in the 90s
@@the_cat_squeaky4554 it was collective but they were a huge part of it
@@t-man5196 no they weren't dipshit. GREEN RIVER. Mats aren't even from the pacific north West. And Embrace is where Emo starts. Please stop lecturing on shit youknow nothing about.
"Far be it from me to give you shit for being in Van Halen.." lolol
😂😂😂 Paul busting Tommy’s balls like an older brother. Or I guess his replacement older brother?
Did he hilariously fade on the "buss" to intentionally sound like "kiss me on the butt"?

Superior fucking Rock and Roll! Thanks for putting this up! Wow. Great.
My dad died in 2012 at the age of 60 & it crushed me for a long time. Seeing my favorite band ‘The Replacements’ at riot-fest 2013 (Chicago) was the only fun I had for a year or two.

The magic of music. Sorry for your loss.
19:38 Paul joking with Tommy about his stint in Guns n Roses
One of the best cell phone video edits I've ever seen or heard. Huge thanks !

Just an incredible performance, 100%.
Maybe the best ending ever for a Replacements concert
That was vintage mats, just screwing around.
rare singer who's voice sounds exactly the same
Cigarettes and alcohol gives that rasp every time. Love it.
I love that their reunion shows were not simply a cash grab. They sounded better than ever!
Fuck ya!!! They sound so tight
The dresses ... that was for Bob, imo.
This is a masterpiece. One for the archives. Thank you!
"takin a ride" is as great an opener as riff raff is for AC/DC
Thanks for this. As an attendee (I can see myself in a few of the shots) this brought back some good memories.
I just discovered this while at the gym. Fantastic! They were so fucking good
Great mix… the sound is amazing- man I wish I saw them during this reunion - I saw them on their last tour supporting all shook down…
Holy shit! F'n awesome! They even rip 3rd Stone! Got to see them in '89 opening for Petty. Been a fan ever since.
I saw this show, the Midway show and the Fillmore Denver show on the reunion tour. This was by far the best. It was new to them, they were having fun, etc.. By the Fillmore show PW was so over it - it was kind of painful...but Whole Foods Blues was funny..
Ps, glad to see these guys returned and have a huge fan base, as I was used to constantly see them playing small clubs gigs.
This is amazing. The transition from Jingle Jangle to Color Me Impressed makes me understand exactly why people would go see these guys in the 80s even when it was a gamble that they'd be goofy and shitty. MATS, TOUR AGAIN
Paul hitting the guitar with the shoe during bastards of young was one of the most punk things I’ve seen.
Thanks a lot! Wish they would have asked Chris back for this "reunion" tour.
As far as I know, he refused to rejoin the band. Josh Freese is an awesome addition either way! If I could have asked anyone else to fill in, it would be him every time
Chris was asked but he declined.
Now that is what you call an encore! 'Mats forever.
Paul looking sober and happy and in CO. Why wasn't I there!
This rips! That crowd should be a lot more wild though!
The Chicago show was out of control!
I just love how Paul and Tommy can't stop fucking with the audience even after all these years
What a treat. I had no idea they were back to playing as the 'Mats. Thanks for creating and sharing this!
This is gold, never got to see them live.
Uhhh these must be their colorado cowboy/cowgirl outfits...lol awesome...
Thanks so much for doing all of this work. Was at the Chicago riotfest show: should have gone to them all…
This is Blowing me away.

Greatest encore ever
This is the best these guys ever sounded. Too bad Bob isn’t alive and Chris isn’t interested in touring.
How did I not know about this tour? They sound awesome and having some fun. The Mats baby!!
you're a hero, thanks for this video!!!

Eternally grateful for this. Thank you thank you!
Who is in the band with Paul and Tommy?

13:36 is that the kings of Leon front man?
Nice one!

Paul had been friends with one of the best drummers of all time. I am a HUGE MATS fan but to have Josh Freese... another level.

*Suckers in the beginning*
listening to this and watching the NLCS game 7
Y'd they ever go away. My college (Buff St Wbny) played @ll these early songs believe it or not. Smtimes @t 2,:00 in the PM. Yeah, 40 years ago.
I used to listen to the "Cool Punk Rock Show" on WBNY in the 80's.
