Bill Batson (starting at 1:32) is given a "road crew" credit, but he's much better known to garage-rock aficionados as the lead singer for The Hypstrz. The "Hypstrization!" live LP (later issued as a much-expanded CD) from this band is a must-own for anyone wanting to hear how what is basically a 60's cover band can transcend the limits of that category and completely rock your world.

The Replacements were sometimes a hard band to like. Westerberg's songwriting bordered on genius but the one time I saw them live they were pissed out of their minds, which again, is classic Replacements.
I'm sure when they were marginally sober and on fire they were brilliant, but that gig was one of the worst I'd ever seen.

Paul Westerberg is the voice of my generation. Mould and Hart wrote great songs as well. But, for someone who captured everything I thought and felt during that time, and can still relate to today through song, Westerberg takes the crown. I can’t decide if I truly would want him to remain as prolific as Mould in the current day.

I don't think this video is from Dec 3 or 4, 1987 because they played the 7th Street Entry on those dates. Also, if you listen to Every Everything from the bootleg of the 3rd, the audio has Grant making an extra sound after the second line and he doesn't do that here. Bob's playing is different also. Every Everything was not played on the 4th. The last time they played First Ave was the beginning of September 1987; early & late show. I've seen a picture of them from one of those shows and they were wearing different clothes than in the video. It could be they wore different clothes for the other set.

Cowpunk was a real genre though but it had nothing to do with either of those groups. there was a big scene of L.A. punks from the 70s that got burned out on just generic punk and somehow all got inspired by old country and western music and basically they were just post punk bands with a western influence.

I guess it depends on how that influence played out. The songwriting by Westerberg, especially Tim and after, is really good but it's the package deal of chord prgressions, lyrics, and melody. If the influence was just the guitar playing style/sound, meh. Personally, I only like smidgeons of pre-Tim like Can't Hardly Wait.
