Wow, this is pretty wild. According to UA-cam's analytics, 94% of people who watched this video so far were male and only 6% were female! Any theories as to why? (I think we'd have more clarity if UA-cam could tell us how many of those men watched it with their pants off).
The demographic breakdown was also unexpected (to me anyway).
    18-24 year olds = 0.2%
    25-34 = 5%
    35-44 = 21%
    45-54 = 31%
    55-64 = 27%
    65+ = 15%
I assumed most of the viewers would be younger….but maybe they're too young to even know or care about her? And I almost forgot, I'd old af now.
Comment below and tell us your age and what's appealing about her to you, as well as how you came to know her (Parks and Rec? White Lotus? One of her movies?).

      Male, 35-44 cis-het. Pants on.
I identify with April/Aubrey because she's the kind of person I wanted to be when I was like 17-22, but I wasn't witty enough and cared way too much about what people thought about me.
Discovered her in Parks but she's great in everything, especially Emily the Criminal.

late 40s. I saw her in a movie sometime around 2010 or 2012, then over time in late night show interviews or clips. Never actually watched Parks and Rec. Her persona is sarcastic, suffers no fools, and is a living embodiment of deadpan delivery. I didn't think about it much at first, but she's the archetype for the kind of friends (both guys and girls) I gravitated towards in high school and college. Albeit with the color saturation turned up for TV/movie entertainment.
There's probably a joke here about how middle-aged men just want to be verbally abused by a sharp-tongued woman. More generally though, I think it's the artificial schadenfreude of seeing a dumb twit character getting it with both barrels -- the lower Internet is a cesspool full of "instant karma" and revenge content channels, so it clearly taps into something a lot of humans harbor. Aubrey Plaza just has great timing and delivery when pulling the verbal trigger that most of us are too timid or mentally slow to do in the moment ourselves (and I absolutely include myself first and foremost in this).
We also tend to latch onto stuff in pivotal or key developmental points in our lives. That's why our older relatives keep thinking of us as still 10 or 15 years old or whenever they last saw us most regularly. For your audience, maybe it's b/c many of us were in our 20s to 40s and watched movies that left some kind of lasting impression on us at that stage in our lives.
I know for me, the 2010s were the last period I ever watched movies. So actors on the rise in that time like Aubrey Plaza are the last impression of any kind I had at all from entertainment media.

HAHA!
anyway love aubrey just because i've seen a lot of interviews and i think she's funny as hell, the timing and also her personality. and pretty in an interesting way. idk how else to call it but some people i guess are pretty but seem boring? like it wears off? might be personality stuff doing that. anyway i hope to see her in a lot more stuff!! :D

I think I first saw Aubrey in Scott Pilgrim. I watched it with my then pre/teenagers. I laughed my @ss off and her character in SP IS exactly how I imagined she could be in real life. I don't know her, so will never know for certain, but Aubrey is one of the funniest-via-awkwardness people I've ever seen. I'm now 63 & she's still a fav.

How to win the part for a character who doesn’t give a sh*t about anything.
    Sheer genius.
    Or maybe sheer luck.
Or maybe God has a massive crush on her. (Don’t we all?)

  • @NeverEverFaceTheDark

Crazy. Michael Schur sure is a storyteller. She pitched him the character then he told the story like she was only the 'muse' for a character of his own making... Maybe that really is what he thought happened. But she calls him out on stage for it without anyone noticing. Impressive.

That's why he cracks up laughing and says "touchez", cos what she said was pure genius,.... funny as hell, but true.

24 y/o here; saw her on Parks of course. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but she just seems like the kind of person I'd never get tired of talking to. It's not just the deadpan delivery-everything she says is steeped in a strange sort of meta-irony. It seems like she aknowledges the validity of cynicism, but still appreciates the absurdity of the human condition and loves the chaos of life. She's smart enough to keep herself out of trouble, but she doesn't feel the need to behave exactly as every 'perfect' holywood type has no doubt perscribed. She just keeps it real and does what she knows is entertaining.
Also hot as fuck, can't go wrong with that.

Meh. IRL someone who is this freaking deadpan and sarcastic, unrelentingly, for years and years is just a drag. It goes past the point of endearing and back to just annoying and depressing, for me. At some point I just got tired of her schtick. 7 seasons of the same thing. I get why people like her character, but for me she was the one character that was too one dimensional for too long. Maybe it was because I was like this for my young adult years and grew out of it, so watching someone just stick to a lame, mildly funny but mostly grating personality as a life choice just depressed me. I feel like for a real person acting with this kind of negative sarcastic façade for this long is detrimental to the personality, mood, and relationships- but she flourished and didn't seem to have to battle any demons like someone actually going through life with this attitude their whole life realistically would, imo.
Other characters with better attitudes had problems and life issues to tackle, things to overcome, but the constantly negative person who would actually most likely struggle on those fronts, was the one who seemed to face the least adversity and didn't find any need to change or grow. I feel like almost every other character had notable challenges, arcs that lead to change. She was the same person from the first episode to the last. Like the show teaching the message if you don't want to face adversity, or have to grow like all the other characters, just be negative, sardonic, and sarcastic your whole life
