Born in 1966 and I listened every Sunday night from 10 to midnight. Definitely a dementite...lol. This is so great. CBS Radio Mystery Theater all week and Sunday with the Doc. Couldn't wait to hear the top 5 of the week. Wish I could still hear it. Thanks for this!
LOVE DR. Demento. Listened on KMET every week. For some reason for the last week, I've been singing "Pico & Sepulveda" over & over.... So, here I am :) One day I tuned into KMET, to hear Cynthia Fox & the mighty met was gone... Just gone. A slap in the face to their loyal listeners. Woke me up to the corporate way of doing "business".
Good memories. The Dr. would keep me company every Sunday Night on the long drive back to school every week. The good Dr. just fell off the dial, but he'll be remembered by those of us who do and don't admit it.
Dr D's archivist would probably like to talk to you! He's on the lookout for tapes from the early days. jbmorris@dmdb.org New Dr D shows weekly at DrDemento.com
I was lucky enough to be able to listen to the Doc live every Sunday on KMET, and then for awhile on KLXS before he disappeared and I stopped listening to the radio. I was also lucky enough to hear him again live on a KMET tribute day not too long ago. Other than that, I REALLY THE MISS DOCTOR DEMENTO SHOW! :( At least I can hear him on here now. That's almost as good. :)
thank you for this. I grew up in the 80s with dr. d thank you. I used to hide under the covers and tape on old radio onto a tape recorder. with tape recorder held up to the radio. lol.
Best Radio show on earth, it's just to bad I moved to Florida where I can't hear the show anymore. But thanks to the Internet I can hear the show again!
I used to frequent Blue Meanie records in El Cajon CA about 1985/1986. They had a box full of radio transcriptions of the good Doctor's shows for 5 bucks a show. They are pictured in the video with the yellow labels & Westworld one logos. They are 2 record sets with the commercials pressed in on the discs. Anyhow the first time I saw them, i went up to the owner and said "How much for the whole batch?" I was a regular basis 2 times a week customer probably spending a couple hundred bucks a month at the very least, so he gave me the whole collection for 100 bucks. There was about 50 shows, 100 LPs in all. Somebody must have grabbed them at the radio station they worked at, it's probably the best buy I ever made! The records are pressed like fine wine, beautiful to listen to & played maybe once when they went out over the air. THE BEST THING EVER! The Doctor, as much as I want, whenever I want, & crystal clear & clean to listen to!
Did you get these transferred to digital. I am in a trading group on the look out for more shows. If you have 1984 shows, they are first that Westwood One put on vinyl.
Thanks for the memories! We listened to Dr. Demento at night and Dr. Don ("Morning") Rose in the morning on the way to school-anybody from the SF Bay Area remember?
omg, i haven't heard dr demento on the radio since 1998 (when the local am radio station in miami stopped brodcasting his show). but i do remember listening 2 his show back in the mid-80's when i was in middle school. i used 2 record his show on tape every week. it was the only thing that got me thru the hell called 'middle school'. lol
I remember listening to Dr. Demento many years ago on (I think) KZOK in Seattle. Definitely some way-out-there classics... somewhere in the bowels of my home there's a Dr. Demento album with a few of the most popular tunes on his show- I also loved the *original* closing theme, it was a really catchy tune. I think it was called "Home Sweet Home"... Thank you for posting this and bringing back some far-out memories!
The show is great I really loved it back in the 1980s - the radio industry has changed to the point that the show is not on the radio anymore but has instead moved online in a 'podcast' format last time I checked.
The good doctor has never really been appreciated for his talent. His "Doctor" title comes from the fact that he holds a doctorate in music from my understanding. He's getting up there in age and I just hope he is recognized for the talent he really is before he passes on.
MGR1900 The Doctor aka Barry Hansen was one of the jocks on the orginal 94.7 KMET along with Tom Donahue & the other "long haired rebellious radio freaks" in the early day of progressive FM radio history back before playlists, contests to win gimmicky prizes & what not. They sucked you in by playing different kinds of music back then, not AC/DC over & over again. The Doctor was one of them. We'll never hear that kind of radio again. The huge conglomerates have seen to that.
Some 15 or so years back, a local used record store had a box of radio show lps of his show. They were about 5 bucks each, and could only afford one of them. A slice of the past, a full program from the 70s, just as it aired.
I remember him before he went to KMET a deedle dee. What great times those were. Young teenagers like me spread the word every Monday at school. We recorded the shows on cassette and played them for our friends. Why hasn't anyone taken up his banner and continued playing comedy music for a couple hours a week? People still listen to Al Yankovic, there is still an audience for humor.
This is great! Does anyone remember a skit about Timmy and the arcade? His dad came and unplugged the machine right before he won! I remember it, and I thought it may be from one of his shows.
I want "Your Morning Feature" off the 3rd show of 1990. That is the one and only time that song was broadcast anywhere on Earth. That show has a few other songs that had their one and only airing on Dr. Demento, possibly their only broadcast ever.
dr demento has rocked my world since I was about 11 lmao ps I was never allowed to sing dead puppies when I was at grandma's making stew sigh no sense of humor I swear lmao I miss this show
the radio station where I live stopped carrying the Dr Demento show but I see there is enough youtube videos of demented songs that MTV should give Dr Demento a weekly TV show since I have cable
I remember hearing a song that went..."matso balls gefeltha fish makes me want to order up an extra dish"... I find myself out of nowhere singing that line. Somebody help me w/ the title.
DR. DEMENTO fans! Hear the Doctor's visit to the Dave's Gone By radio show, live Saturday, March 19, 2011, 10am-1pm(MT) on UNC Radio (uncradio. c0m). Missed it? Catch it, free, in the show's audio archives at davesgoneby. c0m.
The Doctor is STILL in! New shows every Saturday & 100s of classic shows available. Plus currently beta testing the Dr Demento App for Dementophones (get new shows as they're released, search shows to add to listening queue). DrDemento.com
there are 2 WOODPECKER songs I think i swear is the WOODPECKER song on here anywhere? because I have the STICKBALL one...also my childhood froend reminded me of the WOODPECKER songl, where is it on here?
Can anybody out there please upload the song "Hey Saddam Who's Sane-ee" by Doug George? It was on the Dr Demento show in 1993. I really enjoyed hearing it. It was a funny song.
I remember the 4 hour show from the Mighty MET! He is a great hero to me. I would love some of that memorabilia! Thanks for sharing!
Takes me back to my High School Days listening to Dr. Demento.
LOVE DR. Demento. Listened on KMET every week. For some reason for the last week, I've been singing "Pico & Sepulveda" over & over.... So, here I am :)

I miss the Doctor soooo much!...in L.A. I used to listen to him on "The Mighty Met- 94.7- KMET!"
Oh how I long for those days from a much simpler time.
Good memories. The Dr. would keep me company every Sunday Night on the long drive back to school every week.
The good Dr. just fell off the dial, but he'll be remembered by those of us who do and don't admit it.
Nothing used to excite me more than hearing that phrase, "The Doctor is in."
My friend reel to reel taped most of the shows from 1973 and 1974. I've been transferring them to CD. What a trip!!!
Dr D's archivist would probably like to talk to you! He's on the lookout for tapes from the early days. jbmorris@dmdb.org New Dr D shows weekly at DrDemento.com
I always spent late Sunday evenings heading home from my girl friends place listening to his show. Great memories to this day.

I used to listen every Sunday nite back in 1980-82 High School days. I want to hear again that old Moral Majority song but cannot find anywhere.
Doctor Demento's annual Funny 25 was an event you waited all week for.
The good doctor has never really been appreciated for his talent. His "Doctor" title comes from the fact that he holds a doctorate in music from my understanding. He's getting up there in age and I just hope he is recognized for the talent he really is before he passes on.
MGR1900 I think the good doctor won't pass on anytime soon. He's got a life ahead of him indeed :)
