At the 0:59 mark, the guy in the yellow shirt is Robert Haimer, also known as Artie Barnes. He and Bill Mumy (Art Barnes) performed as Barnes and Barnes, and created that "Fish Heads" song that you hear in the clip. The bearded man directly above and behind Dr. Demento is "Musical Mike," the man responsible for all those fart noises you often heard in early Weird Al songs (Mike made those sounds with his hands, by the way). Since the "Real People" crew was there on the day Weird Al debuted "Another One Rides the Bus" live on the air, I have to think that, somewhere, there must be a complete video of that performance. Now THAT would be a treasure!
sadly we lost robert haimer in march 2023. in addition to his hand music "musical" mike kieffer is a very intelligent music historian, much like dr. demento. also in that studio clip you can see su-lu (with the short brown hair) famous for "i love your toes" and "chocolate toenails" among other songs.
Dr. Demento was also in the weird Al movie UHF. He was in the Stanley Spadowski Clubhouse in the audience when Stanley was shooting whipped cream in his mouth.
i’m here as a teenager in 2024 and i’m glad i found out about dr demento (i might just be one of the coolest teenagers i gotta say) but i love the music he produces my i love dead puppies and the vomit song for sure ✌️
When "unscripted" television became all the rage 20-something years ago, I expected Real People, That's Incredible and other old "reality" series from the 70s and early 80s to get a revival. Never happened. I guess that's why they don't pay me the big bucks.
Huge fan since 1978. Remember kids to always
God bless the legend,83 years old and still going!

There was and is interest in Real People, but it hasn’t moved beyond preliminary discussions at this point. You should get the big bucks!
