Tbh this year had too many great games, like the 5 he listed I would say are must plays. The yakuza games are great but sort of a one and done type deal. Most games on this list will give limitless replay ability. Plus not everyone might be fans of the yakuza series.

And if we are talking all genres that aren’t just roguelikes, I put risk of rain 2 on the same pedestal as games like elden ring. Not as ambitious or story driven, but just based off of pure fun. And honestly just the fact that im on console (there hasn’t been an update fore the console version in like 2 years) and im STILL playing it and STILL having unique and fun experiences each run shows how replayable it is. Its replay ability honestly makes it more enjoyable to me than legendary modern games like elden ring.

Even though it had the standard mechanics of floor after floor, die and grow stronger with different upgrades, it perfected the formula so well in conjunction with its combat that it feels like something completely new. Not to mention the standard it sets for voice acting and dialogue in roguelikes

not a big fan of either. both of their art styles are amazing but the roguelike nature of just going again and again gets tiring after a while. i havent touched hades since i beat it and got through the first like heats and risk of rain is always a chore at the start, i love the game loop but it gets to the point where you're trying to not die, rather than trying to kill everything. but thats probably cos my builds suck because im a noob, so i imagine its more fun the better u get... which is a good thing but for some but not for all

As soon as I saw Nioh 2 at number 5, I knew this was going to be a fantastic list. It’s so underrated.
This is definitely a great way to end 2020. Although this wasn't a good year I was glad that I found Charlie's channel. His videos definitely got me through this year. We had to suffer but I hope next year is gonna be good for everyone.

Hades has blown me away with how deep it is in story AND gameplay.
So glad Hades won the Moisties. Absolutely deserved. Not only a great narrative, but incredible gameplay and a wonderful system of rewarding death.

@@xdem6746 I play roguelikes almost exclusively and I can confidently say that Hades was like a renaissance. Even though it had the standard mechanics of floor after floor, die and grow stronger with different upgrades, it perfected the formula so well in conjunction with its combat that it feels like something completely new. Not to mention the standard it sets for voice acting and dialogue in roguelikes
@@cowboynortheast I'd say there are probably better roguelikes/lites if we're comparing the roguelike aspect only but Hades is the better and more complete game. The characters, narrative, and soundtrack complement the game beautifully.

not a big fan of either. both of their art styles are amazing but the roguelike nature of just going again and again gets tiring after a while. i havent touched hades since i beat it and got through the first like heats and risk of rain is always a chore at the start, i love the game loop but it gets to the point where you're trying to not die, rather than trying to kill everything. but thats probably cos my builds suck because im a noob, so i imagine its more fun the better u get... which is a good thing but for some but not for all

man, i'm sad that Half Life: Alyx seems to have no recognition anywhere considering how revolutionary it is, but I guess it makes sense. The HL fanbase is pretty small, and the game itself is VR-only, so very few people could play it
I think it could gain a massive following many years later as VR becomes more prominent.

VR simply isn't accessible to the mass market as it is. It is too expensive, too niche, and too clunky as it is now. maybe the current console generations could make it easier in a few years.
