    Dad, you have raised a very confident daughter in Malin. You should be proud.
    Johan, "I guess they had different preferences back then." An excellent way to phrase it!

    Only a crazed family of Vikings would jump in 15' water, swim, and log roll. Something no-one from Vancouver has ever done.
    All you needed were a few Canadian black flies to complete the experience.
    Congratulations !!!!!!!! ))))))))))))))

    I have noticed with these Alaska/BC episodes that RAN's hull color perfectly complements the color of the waters it moves through. Thanks for the laughs, I needed a blanket just watching this one!

    I have completed watching every single episode over the last 4 days staying up til well past my bedtime most nights. The immense amount of work carrying camera equipment, filming, editing plus the frustrations you must have encountered hasn't gone unnoticed. In the end you have rewarded us all. I've cruised to quite a few of the places in Hawaii and the Gulf Islands plus Desolation Sound and a few points north being from Vancouver. Thanks again!!

      But , don't we hafta sauna first ? Then roll in the snow and Then jump into the frozen over lake ? That's what me Minnesota relatives told me about Finn life in the Minnesota .
      But , the ma n pa came west to Seattle after the war, only going back almost every year.
      But , only did sauna , no lake diving haaaaa ! Brrrrrrr haaaaa.

    G'day folks! Thanks for sharing the latest video...I love : RAN slicing through the glassy waters of the Sound, the fact that family members have also joined the crew, the amazing drone footage (I just can't get enough of the different perspective you get from the drone!) Thanks for taking me/us on a journey to such a beautiful part of the world. My little trip to Desolation Sound has been amazing!! Safe travels, as usual!

    There are many deep fjords around Desolation Sound. They have little tidal exchange and get quite warm in the summer months. Excellent swimming in 68F water temp. A special place, be glad that you are there late in the season and avoid the crowds - enjoy - and be watchful when you go to cross the Georgia Straight. A very long reach with big tides, it can be very rough even for seasoned ocean sailors such as yourselves.

    Looking for the warm water? Go up to the head of the inlet on East Redonda Island, stern tie to a tree then carefully slip into the water, being careful to float in the top foot of water, which can warm up to 20 C in the peak of the summer because of no wind or currents. Don't stir the water up though, the water below 1 ft is likely 8 C

  • @HansQuistorff
    @HansQuistorff 5 років тому

    With just the right timing of change of tide and wind warm surface water can pile into small bays and make them warm for swimming. Our small bay opend to the north with a large bay to the north so if the wind shifted from north to south on an incoming tide the warn water would come in.

  • @kimhadley

    Lovely to see you in my neck of the woods, it's beautiful country. You're videos have done it justice. The trick to swimming in the cold BC waters is to stay in for at least 4 minutes. Your body acclimatizes, and then you can actually tough it out longer than you think. Of course the other trick is if the day is super hot, which isn't the case in september!

  • @kunstmol
    @kunstmol 5 років тому +2

    To find the warmest sea water in Desolation sound you need to find a long inlet, without a river flowing into it. the tides just go up and down here, there isn't much current. so the water gets "warm"

    another spectacular video. I did travel through Desolation Sound twice with friends on a sailing charter and it seems around every corner is take your breath away scenery. some of the memorable anchorages were Prideaux Haven where we took kayaks out for a while and entered an area where there were multitudes of jellyfish, never seen anything like it. another special anchorage was Ramsey Arm where we all woke in the night to the anchor dragging! yikes, you've never seen the captain move so fast. but everything was ok and the location was fantastic. washed our hair in the waterfall and did some fishing there. Anyways, I am sure you have found your own favourite spots. Enjoy! Oh yes, we did this trip in September but the weather was very summer like so we were able to do the occasional swim off the boat. thanks again for showcasing our beautiful province!

    Savory Island, just a bit south of where you are here has the warmest waters north of Mexico. We sailed there this summer and the water temps were mid-20s. There are lots of little bays etc. in the Desolation Sound area that can get very warm, but of course that all depends on the tides, air temp. and sunshine from day to day. But good on you guys for swimming in the lake.

    Well so, yes, I think I did see a Sequoia , a type of coastal redwood. Very high latitude for that. I live where most of them are, the ones that haven't been cut down. It was the one which was hollow. I grew up in forests where nothing but them could grow. They make a very small light wash machine for RVs . You should look into them. At least wash socks, underwear, maybe t-shirts.

    Yes, caution is good around falls+"slippery." I saw someone slide in once and I spreadeagled myself and caught her hand as she was going by. Any more current and we could not have done that; the alternative was going to be a 150 foot drop. Luck was with us that time.
