Number one must be the Greek people. They can be ridiculously friendly. We have been sailing in Greece for almost 3 years...(including 10 months on the hard and now Corona... not complaining). So far we have not been sailing in the Ionian so some things seem off. We only found self service laundromats in 3 places in 3 years. And we did have quite a lot of wind (especially in the Cyclades and around Crete). However, we agree it is a perfect place for sailing ⛵🐙🐢
3 Jahre ohne ionisches Meer?

And this really is just the tip of the iceberg, there are such amazing spots there! Antikithera was one of my favorites, in the right wind and with nobody else around a gorgeous little bay! But so many other lovely little places (some with free harbors and lots more...) what a place... always loved it and right now our boat is already there waiting for us and the borders to open!
Completely agree! We have fallen in love with sailing in Greece! If only we could just get back in the water instead of living in the boat yard here!!!

We had some pretty strong winds from time to time. We just went in hiding before it hit, cause we didn't feel comfortable sailing in it yet. Since we had the time anyways, that worked out good for us :) Aegina was nice too! We were there on the town quay for a couple of days. If you keep on eye out for Blue Juice, we might see each other one day ;)

Thank you for this great video, I am glad you had great time to my country. A while now is in my mind to start sailing my self and I wish that really will happen.
Great video. I enjoyed it very much as I have the rest of your work. Thank you. What a tribute to Greece!!! Often non Greeks write so beautifully about Greece as Henry Miller did in “The Colossus of Maroussi”. So taken from his writings I would say that number one reason for visiting Greece is the Light that is nowhere else to be found. This is where the magic originates.
I'm so glad I found your channel! Thank you very much for all the information you're sharing. My wife and I are planning to retire in Greece, and sailing is on our list of things to do once we're there. Please keep up the great work and happy sailing!

Sorry for jumping in, got very excited for you!....look up sail ionian, we did our ICC with them and they were amazing. The Ionian is a little busier than other parts of Greece but we still found private anchorages on less visited islands...you can read about them here twogetlost.com/the-season-highlights.... if you do go to the Ionian visit cliff bay on atokos, absolutely stunning!
Hi David, yes we can! Personally we loved the Ionian Sea. We started in Lefkas and after all we have seen so far, we would start there again if we could. Ithaca and Zakynthos are my favorite Islands. Both very beautiful!
So excited to have found you guys! Did you buy your boat in Greece? Looking to set sail SOMEWHERE 2025. I’m a new sailor so I love the fact that you said it was easier sailing in Greece. Original plan was to rent an apartment but I think you have changed my mind. I think we would have more experiences from the water…and 6,000 islands!!!
You forgot to mention the downsides. We spent three seasons sailing Western Greece and overall I agree with you but the strong afternoon winds can be scary for beginners and numerous times we spent the night on the town key as the swell made sleeping on the boat impossible. You also have to keep a close eye on going stern-to to as often the sides of the keys have rocks positioned to take out the rudder. I don't recall any of the town keys having electricity either, the marinas sure but none of the keys we were on, I remember this as I was thankful we had solar panels. Then theres the flotillas, while entertaining they can be a nuisance and often hog the keys. In the seasons we were there we had to take shelter roughly once a week from some wind from some mountain or other in a marina. Not a problem for us as we always kept an eye on the forecasts and booked ahead, but we heard of boats desperate to get in for shelter and no spaces available.
Hi John, that's true, there are always some downsides! But we felt like we wanted to focus on the positve things this time. Maybe next time ;) thanks for watching!
We're already sold on getting to Greece, the real question right now (during this pandemic) is will we be able to make it this year?? 🤞🤞🤞⛵️ You shot plenty of compelling footage too 👌🏻😁

I really enjoyed your 8 reasons to sail Greece. There is some brief footage of a secluded long line & anchor anchorage at 5min:15s - can you tell me which island or co-ordinates that is located, please? I feel the need to spend some time there next year!
Hey Nick! Thanks for watching :) the bay you’re talking about is on the south west side of Spetses. You can see the exact location of this place and many more on our map: seethelittlethings.com/map
Shame we cannot stay there longer than 3 months, being in Schengen. There are many other lovely places where food arrives soon after it is ordered. Turkey for example. That said one of my favourite places is the old marina on in Corfu town. Under the conservatoire music drifting down to your boat and a dinghy ride around the moat.
I just finished binge watching all of your videos. SUPER!! I look forward to watching more. Both of you speak excellent English. Mandy: You use some phrases that are typically American. Did you ever live in the USA?
Awesome! Thank you for watching them all! I never lived in the USA, but in the Netherlands we have a lot of American movies and series on tv. I learned all of my English from Friends ;) been a big fan since I was 9 and I've seen every episode more times than I can count. I guess that's where I get it from hihi
Thank you, guys, for sharing your sailing adventures with us. We learned a lot from your videos and we are still learning, preparing ourselves for the summer and our new boat. I would like to ask you something about staying in Greece as EU citizens. How can you stay in Greece more than 90 days allowed as EU citizen ( without a prior visa)? Thank you and keep safe!
Hi guys, thanks! Well that’s the whole point of the EU 😁 that there is freedom of work, travel and living. I can live anywhere and stay anywhere in the EU without a visa. I lived and worked in Germany for 6 years as a Dutch person. Nobody cares.
@@seethelittlethings Thanks for the answer. I understand this ...but as I see on the official greek sites, they say all EU citizens can stay up to 90 days, after that they need to register ... I don't get what this registry is ...as we do not work, but only intend to stay in Greece for 4 months, which is more than 90 days. Probably we only have to show proof of income...
Great info. Could you please give info as well concerning wifi. For example for your channel, did you have to rely on coffe shops or are there more options. Thank you
Great informative vid....thanks....we live in Spain and plan to buy a boat in the future and spend months on the water.....#point of safety.... never board a boat with a backpack on as if you fall over it can fill up fast drag you under ... just saying :)
SOLD. I was on the fence, but the history of Greece is spectacular so we are going. But this is it. It will be one whole season just Greece. Now, how about winter in Greece? Any thoughts? (We have a 5 year plan, so we buy a boat in -25.)
Great! Enjoy as much as you can! Wintering: you can definitely Winter there, but it’s more cold and wet compared to Valencia or Sicily/Licata. Lefkas Marina is run by D-Marin and has the best liveaboard community but slips are not easy to get.
see the little things Many sailors overwinter in the Ionian Sea in Western Greece which from a weather point of view is not ideal. Overwintering in Eastern Peloponnese Crete or the Dodecanese islands is a much better idea weather wise and on average probably milder than either Sicily or Valencia. Winter weather in the Med is variable, unpredictable and different from year to year. The problem with Southeastern Greeece is finding a suitable marina or boatyard. Some exist but not many. Southwest Turkey may be a better idea, also due to significant current price differences.
Remember Greece is quite large. The Ionian is quite wet in winter, hence quite green. Further east and south will be warmer and dryer e.g. Crete. Thessaloniki has snow.
Lots of people sail Greece in the summer and hop over to Turkey for the winter where (if you're happy to hide out some trickier weather) you can sail all season. Might be worth looking into!
Family Upgrade In general, easiest seasons for beginner sailing, both in the Ionian and in the Aegean, are May-June and September to middle of October due to prevailing winds. Ionian is generally easier sailing than the Aegean although one should be mindful of the afternoon NW Maistros wind which starts as suddenly as it stops in the evening.
Agree, Ionian Greece is great. But Croatia is even better and also bigger. Harbor towns are much more historic and charming. But harder on the budget - restaurants and docks are definitely more expensive.
Great video! I will be completing sailing school next May, and will be traveling to Greece for Honeymoon. Any possibility I'll be able to charter a boat without a captain on my own?
Thanks :) sounds great! Get in touch with the charter company islandsailing in Lefkas. Ruth and Jonny will let you know and tell them Blue Juice sent you ;)
see the little things I was just wondering if that’s why you left. It looks like it’s 90 days for most folks visiting from outside the EU (Schengen), i.e., US, Canada. So you guys could stay forever! But then there’s the world to explore. 🌎🌝🌼🐚
The second anchor keeps the boat more stable :) helps with the sleeping;) we always tie it up so we can get rid of it in a second if things go very sideways. We’d loose the anchor. But that’s all. No worries 🙃
This was my retirement dream but thanks to Brexit and a wife that prefers TV as a lifestyle choice it wont happen. I couldn't imagine how nice it would be to have a partner that wanted to do the same things.
I just hope you guys didn't accept a once only fee from Greek Tourism and instead opted for a trailing fee - deadset the video is that good!! A charter company has even included it in pride of place on their website!!!!!! Hollywood awaits lol!
pierre zucchi that’s an exaggeration. 40 or even 30 knots is the exception rather than the rule. Also this commonly does not start before middle of July and is usually over by the start of September. Weather in the Med being very unpredictable these are only statistical averages, mind you. Btw, meltemi is always N to NE not NW.
Hi Pierre, we were in the Cyclades for only 2 weeks, but didn't really encounter any Meltemi. It's true one has to keep the weather in mind! But when you know it's coming, it's alright. You can find nice hiding spots.
Yes maybe you didn't find too much Wind in two weeks bit It Is an exception . It Is linked ti the seasonal high in Russia and the seasonal low over cyprus . If It Is good weather you have strong Wind and rough Sea when you get out the islands. That for the main boat rent agencies give you the boat in pireus (Athens) and you leave It in Bodrum ( Turkey ) and the they pay skippers to bring boats back . Never the less Greece Is very very beautifull
I´ve been to Greece by charter,+10 times, and one SAILING!I love Greece, the people, food, wines, history and the islands.
It's all just very good over there :) :)

Very nice shots and commenatrry is very good, relaxing to see, well done!
Thanks Dimitrios! Happy you enjoyed it :)
No. 1 reason may be the weather ⚓️👍😀⚓️
WOW
🤯🥰
Ruth and Jonny will let you know and tell them Blue Juice sent you ;)
@@seethelittlethings I definitely will! Will I be okay being a young sailor at that point in that region? Looking forward to it!!!
@@spencerherrick9392 Of all things that could be an issue, I don't think age will be one
Number one reason that YOU liked sailing in Greece, was that you got engaged in Greece......😳😳😳😳
Hm that would’ve been an epic reason! I am still waiting for that one though ... 😁😬
I can see why you were sad to leave Greece. I’m sure you’ll go back. Is there a limit as to how long you can stay (I.e. visa, etc).
For Schengen flagged boats not that we know of 😶
see the little things I was just wondering if that’s why you left. It looks like it’s 90 days for most folks visiting from outside the EU (Schengen), i.e., US, Canada. So you guys could stay forever! But then there’s the world to explore. 🌎🌝🌼🐚
Exactly 🌎 😎
Next time you visit Thessaloniki the beers is on my.
Cheers 🍻 will be in touch 😎

No #1 , it's where you proposed :)-....
that would be something right!
Ist da im Sommer auch genug Wind?
#1 ta rembetika
you should know that you have to anchor with one anchor only . if needed for bad wheather a second one in front otherwise you will never sleep
The second anchor keeps the boat more stable :) helps with the sleeping;) we always tie it up so we can get rid of it in a second if things go very sideways. We’d loose the anchor. But that’s all. No worries 🙃

Shit. I wanna go to greece now. Stupid covid keeps me from sailing places.
Belly-Air-Ik islands?
This was my retirement dream but thanks to Brexit and a wife that prefers TV as a lifestyle choice it wont happen. I couldn't imagine how nice it would be to have a partner that wanted to do the same things.
Break the borders, use physics and come back very very soon....We need you in our life bitches! Love you xxx
Alex will invent a new physics law to make that shit happen..! He just has to pull the right lines 😬 we love you guys too ❤️❤️ xx
@@seethelittlethings I imagine us breaking physical distancing rules together in july/August. Hope it comes true x
12:09....cute look!
I just hope you guys didn't accept a once only fee from Greek Tourism and instead opted for a trailing fee - deadset the video is that good!! A charter company has even included it in pride of place on their website!!!!!! Hollywood awaits lol!
watch out meltemi 40 kn north west every day of sunshine om june to end sept
pierre zucchi that’s an exaggeration.
“While we try to find happiness”. Hmmmmmmmmmm, odd statement.
