The internet bothers me at times because I feel it takes away people being creative in their own environments. Always looking to do and see what others are doing instead of being original.

    Chance is 100% right.
I had a broken cellphone and did not replace it for 3 days. My sister in Atlanta had called me, unknown to me, and called my other siblings in Texas, Florida and Georgia thinking something happened to me because I did not call back in 3 days.
I loved being not accessible for those 3 days.

My husband and I literally just had this conversation. I remember when i was younger, im 46 now and we never saw dead ppl or blood, bullets on the news. I can't right now watch the news w/o being so sick with the topics and definitely can't watch with kids in the room. The world is too desensitized now and thats so sad.

Chance you'd be surprised how many of us do this exact thing. Periodically taking fast from social media, phones, certain foods, environments. Simply because we despise being "addicted to anything" and take pride in not being so attached to anything. I love when Chance allows the spirit to speak through him..even if subconsciously he sees it as his own words. For there's many men who need to hear other men validate the voice of God we're hearing. He's always speaking . Very good my boy✊🏽

So many things from growing up are gone: going to the library, writing a letter, sending a thinking of you card, calling friends on the phone and talking for hours, running an errand and not think about who’s trying to call me.

In spite of all the good things, studies have shown that children are retaining less information in their learning and that social media us having an impact in mental health. Plus, human imagination is not being cultivated and nurtured. Balance.

As I sat and "listened" to you (on my computer), while playing on my phone with my Ipad open too, I realized where I am and how addicted I am. My husband and I are constantly in separate rooms on our devices watching and listening to things. This was very helpful.

My grand niece owed me some money. When I told her how much she owed she asked me if I had VENMO or Zelle. I replied, neither….I’m old school and prefer cash…she sent a text to my sister, her Grandmother, who was downstairs, if she (my sister) could give me cash…since she never carries cash! She is 18 years old…it was an eye opener for both of us.

I think ppl in this age think they have the right to have instant and 24 access to you! My Ex would want to text and chat all day even at work, and if I was busy seemed like an issue. I remembered working jobs where I didn't speak to my significant other all day. I would tell my family and friends if it's an emergency call me. I think having a break from ppl really gives you more time to connect later on and really focus on the time spent together versus talking all day non-stop. I don't have any social media but my UA-cam usage has definitely picked up which I'm not a fan of either since it's information overload at times.

Thanks for sharing this important message. Technology is has many pros and cons. I made a decision to delete my IG account this summer. I haven’t had FB in 8 years. I’m in grad school for cybersecurity which has changed my perspective about oversharing. I was also inspired by my Brother and Sister-in-law. They’ve never had a social media account. We usually spend Sundays together eating and catching up… no phones… just family. 💞
I’ve replaced my time on social media with reading, running, and yoga. I love being outside.
‘Digital Minimalism’ by Cal Newport is a great book to read to learn more about life without social media.

I was born with a disability so I can't run like a normal person and try to play sports with him but we do go out to the movies when there is a good movie that comes out that he wants to go see if it isn't on the streaming devices.

This is so right when I came up you went to the encyclopedia now your cell phone is your encyclopedia. Now my grandson asked me what are "they" for😂. And l can also remember when I wrote a paper on how cellphones were becoming a leash because we always had one on our hip yet they made our memories of our loved ones numbers null and void because we just needed to push 1 button. Please don't loose the phone the numbers were lost if you didn't keep a back up in the beginning. 😢

I haven't been on any social media sites since February and I honestly don't miss it. I was addicted to seeing family and friends and people who I admire and it went on for over 12 years. That's how I discovered Tabitha Brown, one of my favorite people. But it does become a desensitization of the human nature of connecting with other human beings. I no longer connect with a lot of people because they're on Facebook and IG. I'm not ready to surrender my human life to the internet yet. I enjoy seeing you on UA-cam now but I don't give it as much time and attention when I was using Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok to connect with other human beings.

My landline is Vonage. It goes through the internet 🤷🏽‍♀️!!!! I’m a senior citizen & in the 50’s,60’s etc. girls were taught not to leave home without a handkerchief & a dime to call home. (Later it was tissue & a quarter)Those days are over. I’ve been on Zoom, since the pandemic. I had a pager, then a cell phone since the mid 90’s. I left it in my glove compartment in case I got a flat tire. My spouse talked me into getting it. He was a gadget guy. Now I’m past 69 & addicted like everyone else. I grew up knowing the internet in elementary school and growing up me and my brother (2000 and 2002 babies) had limits for how long we could be on the internet or watch tv after school. My sister was born in 2008 and had a tablet in her hands around 2 years old. I definitely see a difference in our abilities to concentrate, do things outside of the home, be without a phone. I personally am more aligned with Chance, especially after noticing my tv show consumption was hours each day. I’m not really on social media often, but technology has definitely changed and influenced my behavior, thinking, and the way I spend my time. I’m currently implementing limits for myself the way I would want to with my further children because the best way to lead, is by example.

Kids do their work via computer….. gone are the days where the teacher had a red pen to mark mistakes and sends the paper home so that not only the child could study but the parent could help the figure out where they went wrong and see what areas the child needs help in.

We sure did have to go to my Grandma's house and get those encyclopedias and go to the library to do our homework. We played outside, but technology became big when I turned nine years old and we got our first computer at home. Glad I knew what it was like before it took over. I'm the that tells everyone to put their phones down in group settings. We came to spend time together not be on our phones!!!!! It's kind of sad. It's getting harder to guard your gates. What we see, hear, and consume. Technology and social media fasts are very healthy. Disconnect and clear your mind and stop going down so many Internet rabbit holes.....

I agree with the rushing part.
Even though I know how much time a video will play, I still tap the screen when I already set aside the time to watch. I also don't watch live TV, I wait until the recording comes on.... Then I skip the credits and forward through commercials

My grandson's elementary school doesn't even give spelling words for homework. We had to incorporate that in addition to his other homework ourselves. Technology gives them correctional type misspelled words.
I worry in the future, who will know how to spell, to update the technology ? I'm just inquiring 🤔🤔🤔

Great discussion it is a shame how technology has deprived our young people of learning how to give the correct change to a person unless the cash register tells them how much to give back. You go out to dinner with people and everyone is on the phone instead of socializing with each other.

They got us! I am praying that one day I will be able to move to the country to live a slower lifestyle without all this technology. It’s going to destroy us if we don’t be careful.

We are living in the last days so social media is one of the distractions of this wicked world we’re living in so through these different things you become desensitized to a lot of things that are of the devil’s work it’s part of his intention

I heard a pastor say what are you bowing to as he proceeded to demonstrate with his head bowed like rolling a blunt, then cell phone, laptop as he was typing, ipad, over eating, etc. What have you allowed yourself to become addicted to that you bow to it more than seeking the face of GOD😮😢 ......i had to examine myself because not long after that Tab and chance popped up and i knew i had to examine myself because my bowing belongs to the LORD😮😢 HOW ABOUT YOU GUYS, DO YOU EVEN RECOGNIZE THAT YOU ARE BOWING OR HAVE REALIZED HOW MUCH ATTACHEMENT YOU HAVE ALLOWED TO TAKE OVER?
