Canon EOS C400 | In-Depth First Look & Test Footage - Фільми й анімація
You guys didnt even wait for the Canon video to end. LMAO
I was thinking the same thing haha
its so boring im glad this came out
😂😂😂
started the canon, seen this on side, stopped canon to watch cvp's one
I find other channel provide actual information faster. Just a whole lot of fluff in theirs.
Got bored by Canon's own launch video so came here for the no-nonsense, facts and user review. Was not disappointed. EDIT: I also pre-ordered based on this in-depth review.
CVP saving me from the Canon livestream and getting to the point lol
Legit. CVP killing it.
Soooooo much better than the official announcement video with two guys reading a script below the table….
Great work Jake! You work so hard!
Thank you for your hard work on these videos. They're greatly appreciated!
You guys knock it out of the park every time!!! brilliant work putting this together. Thank you!
CVP came out with the review before Canon's even has ended. Ha love it!
That's what we do! Thanks for watching, Jake
Absolutely amazing job for having only had a test unit for
C400 with the 24-105 2.8 for documentaries seems pretty unbeatable!
The Sony fx6 still seems like the go to option
@@Yupthereitismand the Sony fx6 might be way lighter than that canon one😂😂
I still prefer the FX9 (Variable ND, true xlr ports, shoulder ready, evf, great image quality...). And with the tiny FX3 as your b cam (for gimbal shots, tiny spaces, interviews, when you want to be discreet), you are good to go. But yes this camera looks amazing too, I understand why you are saying that (especially for the 24-105 2.8)
@@Yupthereitism why would fx6 be better?
@@Yupthereitismcurious why you think fx6 is better this has better resolution for stabilizing , better recording formats, and canon colors nicer. The lenses have always been legendary
This video is a masterpiece! I'm amazed by the incredible amount of work you put into it. Hats off to you!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching! Jake
"canon have no input on this video" well dah, you haven't gave them time to even think about it lol
It’s good having full disclosure about videos like this. Sadly sounds like Insta360 just recently got busted paying for reviews but asking for creators to not make those disclosures.
Canon media dept: So are we final on that edit?
CVP: Too late
Canon colours are blessing my eyes 😍😍😍
You guys are the absolute best.
thank you for this first look with your usual thoroughness.
Well done guys. Another great & informative video. We collectively thank you! 👍
The absolute gold standard in camera reviews. Great work.
the real question is, are YOU getting one or sticking to the S35 setups? 🤔
@@theyoungsphoto definitely going to get one, you know I can’t pass up a good Canon release 😂 joking aside though, the c400 looks like on paper the perfect do it all camera for me
What a time to be alive! If I only had money for even half of this great camera 😅😅😅
As a c70 user i'd love to see these 2 cameras head to head image wise.
you kind of already saw it when they compared it to the C300mkiii. Identical sensor to the c70.
Yes Canon! This seems like a really great option and for a reasonable price. Would be interested in renting one for bigger projects to go along with my C70
Thanks for this test!
Fantastic video. Tons of detailed information. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this insightful and professional review ❤
this has become the best channel for camera reviews, feels objective, factual and technical, but with the right mixture of different shooting scenarios (although I would love to see more fiction/commercial shoots).
We are planning on doing more fiction & commercial shoots, it just requires a lot more preproduction! Thanks for the kind words and for watching, Jake
Great review! Thanks!!
This sets the bar high for the next Sony cams. This is an incredible camera.
The contender in a smaller and more economical package will be Panasonic SH2.
Great review!
Nice to see some of the ideas you've had for months to shoot finally became a reality
Hell yeah man! Hope you’re all good mate. Jake
Excellent video! Very informative and some good points here. Currently a R5C & R5. Looks like a brilliant upgrade, can’t quite justify the cost of upgrading just yet as I’m pretty happy with my current setup.
Canon punching air RN seeing CVP dropping this video during theirs
Canons video was quite bloated in my opinion.
This is a real workhorse of a camera. You can’t ask for much more at that price. The rf 24-105 f2.8 on this will be such a nice package. Great job Jake and co, your productions are so on point and genuine, ‘camera reviewers’ - take note!
You guys such a damn good job. Big trust in your delivery of info. Gonna get one for sure. I'll reluctantly sell a C70 and my R5c.
This camera is amazing I am in love
this is the video I was looking for, another win for CVP!
Thanks for watching! Jake
Great work as always, footage looks amazing!! C400 looks like promising camera and for $8k this is a very compelling camera for owner/operators.
CVP was even before canon Great JOB!!!!
informative content looks very impressive Thanks CVP.
Thank goodness for making another C400 launch video 🙌🏼 much more in depth and straight to the point to be honest. Also, Canon forgot to mention about internal NDs, fortunately they are still included 😅
Super solid review! Would love to see an updated video down the road with more comparisons to the C500II
Great work!! Much better review than the official Canon one!
the nd filters and the clear filter with good ir cutting is really nice to see
Canon should have you do their releases. Theirs was abysmal. Slightly disappointed about the lack of DGO, but looks like a good body!
I am shooting canon eos cinema cameras since 2018 starting with the c200, now C300mk3 and c70 as b cam. I was anticipating and craving a new flagship canon cinema camera, but tbh for me I don't have a need in buying the C400 unfortunately. Especially the lack of DGO and dynamic rage compared to the C300mk3.
I really, really hope that Canon comes out with a C700mk2 esque, 20-25k€ Burano/V-Raptor Competitor, as im craving (even) better image quality. I know, im being pretty picky here, but I feel a little bummed frankly. Nonetheless it seems to be an awesome camera especially for that price point, but not worth the upgrade if you own c300mk3 and c70 (with speed booster) for me at least.
Thank you for that superb review! Cheers!
It has better dynamic range than the dgo camera with the bsi
this looks amazing but hard to justify upgrading from my c500 ii right now. that triple ISO is neat.
I always come to CVP for the best reviews. Looks like a great camera!
Looks like a very compelling cinema cam
It’s pretty damn good! Jake
Man, UA-cam compression really doesn't like those noise comparisons 😅
Great video guys, beat the life out of Canon's overview efforts!
Almost there. I think (at least for me) folks want better dynamic range, and anamoprhic height of a sensor. It would have been great if it was full frame (24x36mm) DGO, even at 4k, with much better DR. Decent price, but I won't be upgrading.
Gotta love the competition! FX6 setting Canon on their backfoot forcing them to come back with this incredible price-performance package. And with that new 24-105 it's a killer doc combo. Well done. The only thing I would love to see is a proper EVF. And an awesome video as always, guys, cheers!
They’ve done a good job and hopefully we get more unique lenses like the 24-105 from them too! Thanks for watching, Jake
I was watching the Canon reveal video and thought, damn this is boring. Luckily my boi Jake was here with some real info.. Good job as usual 🦝👍
Fair play to ye for this video. I'm a bit more interested in it now after struggling through Canon's boring as hell presentation. Would've loved to see that they used the DGO sensor, but maybe that had to be the trade off for the triple base iso? And I'm a bit disappointed to hear that the autofocus improvement isn't as big as I'd hoped for. Still, thanks for your thorough breakdown which actually answers the questions we all have.
I love the fact that you can have a LUT on the monitor but still measure exposure in RAW and hate that you can’t do that on a Sony. Finally Canon are competing with Sony and here’s hoping they make inroads into Sony domination - I would switch so fast back to Canon if they started becoming more widely used.
This is the one to watch.
I hope someday to work with Canon. I really feel like they are closest thing to Apple in the camera space. Although I am an Android and Windows user but I still am impressed by what Apple can make😊
Hello, guys, Canon EVF-V50 OLED Viewfinder Will this viewfinder fit the new Canon C400 camera and will it work? and the second question is, is it possible to fix the manfrotto pad directly to the bottom of this chamber? or do you need an additional platform separately?
The EVF-V50 & V70 will not work the C400 and yes a regular 500 series plate should mount fine. Jake
I would love to see this compared more in detail with the C300 Mark iii, I've been debating about investing in the c300 for awhile and was waiting to see what Canon would release this year. I still use and have alot of EF lenses so the c300 is an easy choice but the full frame c400 has a S35 mode already and I can use an adapter so now I'm really split. The main thing that is making me want a C300 still is that DGO sensor. I'm honestly shocked that didn't add that but like you said, they may be saving it for the magical C500 Mark iii
Came here right after Canon's video!
Great job! Really good work. 👍
Thanks Gerald! Hope you get your hands on one soon too! Jake
Canon is back in the game! Do you know if the internal NDs will clear the protruding elements in the PL Nisi Athenas?
This look like an outstandingly busy two days 😂❤
It certainly was! Jake
Great, informative review. Thank you!
Such a good review!
This will be my next camera!
If you make a want to buy video:
FX6, FX9, Komodo(-X), C70, C300 mkIII, Blackmagics new Cinema cam if available.
Hi,
Could you elaborate on the AF (autofocus) capabilities? Are there any scenarios where Canon still lags behind the current competition? Is it at the level of the FX6, or is it less reliable?
I want Canon to make a new C500 mark 3… guess ill stay with my 2x C70 my R5C and my R3 camera a little bit longer 😆
Love the DGO sensor.. just wish it was full frame
Can you compare it to the Komdo X. I'm looking for a great B camera without breaking the bank. I've considered being cheap and going black magic. I also miss Full Frame so this is very enticing.
TY 🙏
If you consider adding the handgrip and a V-mount battery to the Burano, the C400 is near a quarter of its price. I honestly think this camera is a Burano killer. Sony would have to drastically reduce the price of the Burano and/or add some features to it, like to include the handle without extra cost, add internal X-OCN S, maybe even sell it with a G-Master lens included in the price of the body.
Why did they make one CF Express memory card slot, can we say forget about the copy? 4K 120p only for the S35 is strange for me too, so a lot of questions to the manufacturer?
Great video guys! Amazing to get through all of that in 48 hours.
Considering selling my Komodo-X after watching that. This ticks a lot of boxes, trying to think of why I'd keep the KX instead??
Great video, very curious to know since there are two XLR as well as the 3.5mm jack can the C400 do 4CH audio?
Lol, that guitarist had an Eyehategod shirt on. That band is kick-ass!
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Galatians 6:7
I'm really curious how this camera compares to the R5c since the image and possibilities looks the same to me
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Seems like a perfect A cam to go along with the R5 C - except those damn mini XLRs!
Daaaamn! 6k raw internal up to 60, 4k 120 and 2k 180. Damn! They not playing! FF and 3 Native ISO wow!
Could you test the BM Ursa EVF with this camera in your next video? One thinks they could work together since they are both USB-C, so here's hoping.
Such a great rundown! At 13:15 you discuss something not being well publicized or mentioned elsewhere that I've seen, that you can shoot 4K 120fps compressed while using the whole full frame image raster, but the example shown says it is in the S35 mode cropped. Just to confirm which is it?
Incredible review! Thanks
Thanks for watching! Jake
It'd be really interesting seeing how it stacks up to the Komodo instead of the Raptor. Give how much more I/O and accessories you get with the C400 over the price points aren't that far apart
Cvp is absolute best. In business , 100% 1000%
Comparing this to the Komodo X in the should you buy video would be great!
Great review.
Regarding highlight DR comparison with C300: C400 is exposed higher in your test.
I love that your are including the black metal show into this 🤣
I'd like to see this compared to the c70
Would love to see how high movement situations look after post stabilization with gyro data. I know some Davinci Resolve uses it to compensate for rolling shutter on Blackmagic cameras. Can gyroflow do that on this cameras footage. For comparison vid I would love to see Komodo-X in that. Would also like to see comparisons on the canon raw light vs other raw codecs such as Prores Raw. I really think this is gonna be an interesting competitor with Komodo-X. Both having an internal raw codec & common non raw codecs.
Does it use gyro-data for the digital stabilization and record it in the metadata?
The dynamic range on this camera looks great 👌🏾👌🏾😁
same as the C70 (listed at 16 stops and the C70 is listed at 16+ stops)
C70 is better. It’s in the video
@@JeanSebastienLEGERSo, probably around 14 realistically.
Actually 12+ realistically. Only Arris are doing something different to get 14 usable stops
close to 13 stops according to cine d.
Thanks for the great vid. What was your experience with getting clean footage. We're looking for a new camera to upgrade from our FS7 and leaning towards the C400 but we do a lot of chroma key work and need a camera than can really shoot a very clean, noise free image. We have a ton of light to throw at it, so it's no problem shooting a really low ISO. Any advice on how clean it was shooting lower ISOs?
Really bummed that didn’t do dual cf express and full sized xlr. Weird if this is replacing the c300 and c500
Hopefully this sensor will be adopted in a C70mii or new similar compact body!
Looks like an awesome camera, but run & gunners like myself don’t really have a need for the higher end cine ports & extras.
A smaller version of the C400, with a box shaped body would be sick
Hey guys, great video. I have a few Questions, maybe you could help/enlighten us:
- I'd like to shoot a lot in 4k XF-AVC I, thats over sampled from the 6k sensor. Whats the image like comparing 4k OS vs 6k Raw ST?
- The noise performance seemed a bit concerning in the shadows (even at low base) - Is it significantly better in XF-AVC I with noise suppression on vs RAW?
- Lastly, could a user get rid of the c400 monitor, and use the SDI/HDMI monitor port with an external monitor and get the full menu overlays etc?
Many thanks for any additional info!
Dan
I would like to see ProRes recording options on Canon cameras, since all the major camera manufacturers (Panasonic, Fuji, Nikon, Red...) are doing it.
I have two BMPC6K pros for interviews and a Lumix S5Mk2 for gimbal work. But for run and gun I always grab my old trusty C200. It just works, the pictures look great and I love the ergonomics. Please can you compare with the Black Magic G2 and 12K. Great video, thanks.
Will add those to the list! Thanks for watching, Jake
Canon nailed it with this camera.
I dont understand. How is this amy better than the other cameras in the c line like c300 etc? Im asking sincerely. What has improved with this?
@@rossdanielart It's an RF mount cine camera in a cube body that comes with all the accessories for a reasonable price. Like yeah I too would like it to bring more cutting edge stuff like global shutter, internal 32 bit flot audio, etc etc, but then it would be 15k, I'm sure that camera is also coming btw. For someone like me that is shooting on R5C but wants to move to cine-style bodies and keep the R5C as B-Cam, this is basically perfect and at a price point I can actually consider. Whereas a 15/20k body is just out of the question for me and then I would've probably gotten a Pyxis or something instead. I didn't want to invest in 4/5 year old cameras as my new main cam, there were no options with RF besides the C70 for me and I was feeling meh about that camera, whereas I really want this one bad.
Is the normal profile straight out of the camera limited to 4K?
If this had IBIS and 32bit float onboard mics it'd be perfect but that's probably asking too much.
This C-400 camera would be an alternative to the Red Komodo X so I’d love to see it compared. Especially a proper DR test like Gerald Undone does. I have not seen DR results from Red and it would be interesting to see this camera chart results. Also side by side high contrast scenes with post footage grading comparisons. It’s so much to ask but it would be awesome. Your reviews are excellent 🙏🏼👏🏼👍🏼
I'd love to see it compared to the Red Komodo X!
I'm sure I'm not along in thinking I'd love to see the C400 compared to the FX6mkII. Yes, I'll wait. 🙂
Is there a viewfinder available from Canon?
Great video again. Thanks. Could you share your export settings for youtube?
