I own two C70 cameras, a R5C and an R3.. I was looking forward to seeing new cameras have DGO sensors.. full XLR that the bigger bodys normally have..
But its cool that its full frame and RF with build in NDs.. and a fair price also..
But I think ill wait for the C500 mark 3.
Low light is fine but I rather just turn on a light and have the better DGO sensor for retaining highlights closer to the “ARRI effect”
Well done Carl! Great footage, exciting camera!
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video
Yeah Carl is nice with it
This is a nice little channel been subscribed for years!
Looks to be a great camera.. the Camera I was hoping the C300 III would have been. The only gripe I have is with the way the battery mounts on the rear.. sticking straight into the person handholding /cradling the camera.. sigh.
BP-A 30's fit much better and sit flush with the camera
How does the Canon c400 compare to Reds cinema camera lineup?
Indeed would love to see an EVF on par with the A7s3
The c400 has flickering light in the video comparisson in the FX6
Oh really? Illl look into it. This is a preproduction camera of course.
Did Canon just go ahead and gave us the perfect cinema or even ENG camera? For not even THAT high of a price? HOT DAMN Canon... Hot damn.
Its very impressive isn't it! Thanks for watching
@@carlyates2487 Very! Can't wait to get my hands on it! Although I just invested a lot of money in all new Sony gear 😅
What is the lens port for? Could a B4 broadcast lens be connected and powered from there?
Exactly. Most likely a PL lens though for the sensor coverage
I've always feared Canon couldn't do full frame DGO, so is this a DGO sensor? I don't see it listed anywhere, just three base ISOs.
Edit @1:41 I see you answered that. Would love to see shadow noise compared to c70.
So would I. I think it’s best to wait for final production cameras before doing too in depth tests though.
You guys should make videos again!
a second cfexpress typ b would be better imo, but it is a very decent camera. Although at this point I was really expecting a 8K camera from Canon, so it came really as a suprise. They are developing a 8k camera for quite long time now, probably the C500 Mark III will be the 8K superior model to this. Maybe there is no real market for a high priced feature rich 8k cinema camera from canon? This is a very interesting release.
I agree, I would have preferred two CFexpress slots.
AS for 8K, resolution isn't everything. They would have been balancing between resolution, dynamic range and sensor readout speed
The image does fall apart when over exposed or under exposed compared to c300 mkiii and even c500mkii.
We haven't tested latitude, but its important to remember that this is a pre-production camera.
Canon just missed up the entire Sony cinema family tree; size, price and features. Sony fire sale coming sooner than later.
Do you think? There are a lot of Sonys out there in the market!
Any ETA when units will start shipping?
September.
why not 6k 120 FPS and option for EVF ?? it would have been my full time cinema camera. Canon developed hot-shoe for top handle, but forget put record button on it.
I agree, a record button on the top would have been good. No camera is perfect right?
I'd love to see an optional EVF which uses the USB-C cable like the Blackmagic one for Pyxis
Why not 8K the R5C DSLR is.
Resolution isn't everything. They would have been balancing between resolution, dynamic range and sensor readout speed
Dual SDI output: Mon 3G-SDI, and 12Gsdi. One for my DJI TX and 1 for my SmallHD 5inch monitor. Cross conversion with optional HDMI output Type A is a bonus. Glad Canon didn't use micro HDMI output like my R5C. Impressed with triple ISO sensitivity. Compared to my the R5C that uses 1600 and 3200 dual native ISO.
No open gate 6:5 or 3:2 for Anamorphic like the BlackMagic Pyx 6K?
No, sadly no opengate resolutions.
@@carlyates2487 Makes me wonder why Arri and Blackmagic decide to have features like that but Canon don't want to implement those features with their cinema line up.
Okay but no v-lock option?
Full Frame Camera co make a fantastic little Vlock adapter plate which will screw straight onto the back.
The SD Slot is bad for dual Recording...
I kind of wish it was 2x CFexpress slots but I speak to a lot of customers who love having an SD card slot so that they can shoot simple codecs and hand off to the client on the day by just giving them the media as SD cards are so readily accessible.
@@carlyates2487 Sry Data Protection is more important...
Impressive
Thanks for watching
How are you going to use this camera for run and gun if there’s no internal stabilization?!
It has digital stabilization - which in my experience with the C70 and R5C is doing a fantastic job
Run and gun existed before ibis so.....
Probably the same way that we’ve always filmed with cameras that don’t have ibis.
Most of this video was what I’d consider “run and gun” filming.
A very very large number of current day productions are shot in the wild on Sony FS7 bodies with no ibis 🤷♀️
Can you us their EVF from the C500/C500?
No I’m afraid now. That needs their proprietary video terminal which this doesn’t have.
I’d love them to release a USB-C one which works with this!
@@carlyates2487 why are the options for viewfinders so limited?, I'd much prefer it over just a monitor. Can you explain?
Burano killer 🤣
I doubt it. But it interesting to compare them.
Any way you can do a shadow detail comparison swap against the c300miii? Mainly a dynamic range comparison I suppose.
Curious to see the DGO vs this Censor.
Awesome! 👏🏻🎥
Thanks for watching!
@@carlyates2487 anytime! Will have to check it out in person, this might actually be perfect for some up coming doc work!
@@notjustanygeorgeWe will be doing some hands on events soon!
@@carlyates2487 excellent! 🎥🎬
Welpppp later C70... Selling you for the C400
What features made your mind up?
You'll have LESS DR...and no more DGO sensor. The image quality from the C70 seems way more organic and less digital than the c400
So underwhelmed…
Oh really? What were you hoping for?
The Canon demo film footage looked the same as the stuff they were producing 10 years ago to me. Nothing special. Very Canon looking, and honestly way too dark. Your footage looks so much better than theirs. I've seen some stuff shot on C70 for B cam, that looked just like the Alexa A cam, so I'm a bit more impressed now after seeing your footage. Still very happy with my FX6 and FX3 though, and I think it will be a few years before I will feel like I want/need another camera. Hoping we see a Sony 24-105 F2.8 PZ lens to really make the FX6 complete.
Well that’s a shame!
Glad you found our footage more useful though. We were all very impressed with it here.
All of the footage here is only very lightly graded as well. For the most part just a Phantom LUT and light exposure tweaks.
Agreed, I’d love to see Sony rework their 28-135mm to be something more like this Canon RF 24-105mm f2.8. It’s a fantastic lens.
Because he shot it on DZO’s and not Canon photo glass
@@michielrotgans I think that demo film also had canon cinema primes in it. The point I think I'm really making is that they didn't do a very good job at the grade. Looks like they shot it in the Normal picture profile, on a 5D. lol
@@billmakesmoviesI wouldn’t go quite that far, but I get your meaning. I shoot on the c70 and their scary demo felt way more clinical than what I love about the 70 - that said this will probably be my next camera and seeing your DZO Arless footage kind of clinched it for me. I love my vespid cybers, and I’m glad to see the contrast between the RF photo glass and cine lenses is alive and well in the 400 :)
I feel u…
At US$ 8,000 plus required add-ons, it's not worth the money. $10,000 to make it usable is folly. I could buy 3 BMD cameras for this price.
Excellent review! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Does the digital stabilization work when shooting in RAW Codec?
Nope
