With the "Star destroyer" classification, I think an appropriate name, given that ships like MC80Bs are called this, would be "Star cruiser", and have "Star destroyer" be an imperial distinction
That is why the mon Cola named them star cruisers in the first place because calling their ships star destroyers that they produced in high gear would make people question it.
@@samuelvita6978 yes, and we all know what happened to the Republic... it became the empire... the difference is that mon cala created the star cruisers as luxury liners....but when the GCW(Galactic Civil War) broke out and mon cala joined forces with the rebellion they modified the luxury liners into warships... The ISDs and the venator star destroyers were designed for war... mon calas star cruisers were not...
The Dreadnaught class heavy cruiser is called a heavy cruiser because it's an over 100 years old design... At the time, it WAS a heavy cruiser. It's not well armed, though still fairly tough and it doesn't make the majority of the fleets because it's obsolete and only still in service because they needed more ships. They we're mostly used in the fringe against pirates and low tech worlds. They also needed a lot more crew than recent designs, you could have crewed almost 4 Victory class for every Dreadnaught, making them very ineficient.
Thank you for all of the videos you post. I can tell that you put it in a lot of time and effort researching each subject. Many youtubers only read a tiny bit before posting their videos, and it is painfully obvious that they know VERY little about the subject they are making a video about. I think a more sophisticated way to classify ships is based on volume or mass, what doesn't work as well when classifying ships with vastly different densities. Like, if you measure a vong, and an imperial ship, and classify them, you will vastly underestimate the vong ones.

So, in my tabletop rpg, I just call them Rendili cruisers to cut down on the confusion. Back then they weren't using the term 'dreadnaught' for ships larger than a star destroyer.
Correction: The millennium falcon was actually originally built to move very large cargo around. How you might ask? Think of it like a backwards semi-truck. The gap in the front would dock with a large freightbox and the millennium falcon would push it through space along hypderdrive lanes. In Attack of the Clones you can actually see the falcon flying next to the Senate building. By the time of A New Hope it's already a very old ship, part of a decommissioned line and heavily modified.

Hey Eck, Fleet building question. I am putting together, lets say for now a “theoretical” medium sized fleet. Both Imperial and Rebel that are going to be designed to go head to head. I have a "what if" video idea. What if the Empire used used all those resources used to build the 2 Death Stars and instead built Star destroyers, it would pretty much triple the Imperial navy and I think that the Empire, with so much more Star destroyers, could have crushed the rebellion.

I wish they'd use or at least cleave close to the navel warship types. Major classifications: - commercial ships (used for ship classes designed for non-military purposes) - industrial ships ( designed for non-commercial non-war purposes like transport, hauling, etc) - sub-capital ships (war ships destined for war/battle but smaller than capital size used to supplement capital ships) - capital Ships (large military warships that serve as the backbone of fleets) In each classification there's types or classes based on size and function: Industrial ships: - transport ships (used for transporting personnel) - hauler/cargo ships (vastly varies in size but used to transport goods and cargo material) Sub-capital warships: -Corrvettes (small ships used for fighting other ships) - frigates ( slightly bigger than corvettes but not by much. Generally used for harming other small ships and fighters and able to deploy fighters tho not much) - destroyers (bigger than frigates by a tad but able to use cruiser sized weapons, designed to take out specialty ships and larger ships) - cruisers (medium sized warships with bigger guns and armor but slower) - battle cruisers (slightly larger than cruisers that use battle ship guns but vulnerable armor, glass Cannons) - battleship (largest sub capital warship, difficulty in fighting smaller ships (i.e. Star destroyers)) Capital ships: - carriers (giant support warships used for ability to carry a large number of personell, fighters, and other warships. Essentially a mini movable command center) - dreadnoughts (giant capital sized warships designed for mounting giant weapons for dealing the most damage possible. Best against structures and such(i.e. Executor)) - super-weapons ("ships" that are ginormous and singularly used for their ability to mount weapons of catastrophic destruction (deathstars, mega star destroyer, etc) From there there are specific ship classes that designate specific designs and or function (the fact that all three levels are all "classes" makes it initially confusing) that are usually named after the name given to the first of that line. Then theres specialists classes of the above like assault frigate, reconn cruisers, and the like. But they are just specialization to the class that are diff enough to warrant a name. Then there's ships outside of the big 4 classifications like: - entertainment barges (I guess that'd be included in commercial ships) - fighters (1-2 manned starships used almost exclusively to combat other deployed fighters and supplement larger crewed war ships(it's not included because they don't require a "crew" per-say. ) Then there's the term "flagship" which isn't a class but rather a designation of a ship (almost exclusively a capital ship) that serves as the centerpiece of a large fleet. Though more than one can be active in a battle. ^ I feel like this would be better for Star Wars as it's more recognizable in that it cleaves to established navel classifications. Just imo tho
id jam a z95 fuselage through a TIE defender on each space between wings there would be a light turbolaser it would be named 'predator class heavy assault fighter' also i would swap concussion missiles for proton torpedoes
Star wars seems to play pretty fast and loose with ship classes, espcally considering how a good deal of it's space battles are based on wwii type naval combat.
simplest way to fix this is to just call it different fleets using different terminology. This is not uncommon in real life where different military's will use different terms for the same thing- the German's in WW1 did not use the term "destroyer" and called their small ships torpedo ships for instance. Star destroyer should just be a term that was created by the Republic and later Empire to describe their main line of Heavy Cruisers/Battle Cruisers also Terms change over time what they describe - "frigates" were once sailing "cruisers" but then became cheap escort ships- while the mission of the "Cruiser" went from long range patrol and attack to heavy escort in real life. In real life originally the Term "cruiser" was just a ship sailing by itself- and if you applied modern terms onto classical sailing warfare a sailing Frigate could be classified as a Cruiser. and once powerful ships become surpassed and obsolete- the Old Republic "Dreadnought" for instance could have been classified as a Dreadnought historically but time has made it obsolete.
MR.Chickennuget 360 Makes sense, though I always viewed something like a Star Destroyer as the Empire's main ship of the line, i.e. a battleship (or possibly a battleship carrier since they carried a good number of TIEs.)
well Battleships in the Starwars universe is reserved for ships like Executor and other super star destroyers. Imperial Class Star Destroyers should be considered battle Cruisers.
A lot of the things in Star Wars could be compared to real life, I.e. An x-wing is quite close to a Corsair or a P51 (a small stretch since it wasn't carrier-based)
can u explain everyday items/ food drinks/bandaids things of that like in the star wars verse and how they are generally used or are suppose to be used
My star wars faction doesn't have a decide between batllecruisers and cruisers. But generally it either uses REALLY outdated General Cruisers or heavy cruisers.
I would have based the ranking system on combat role ie dreadnaught as you did, a fleet killer. Battle cruisers as your capital heavy ships that have heavy armour and weapons designed for delivering and taking heavy bombardment. Cruisers which carry similar armament to a battle cruiser but sacrifices armour for maneuverability. Frigates as support/screening ships that bolster the fire power of a capital ship and tasked with taking out fighter craft. Destroyers as more screen and heavy weapons for killing support classes (frigate and below). Corvettes as fighter screens.
You forgot to add the Death Stars and World Devastators in your list. Granted, in Star Wars, the Death Stars are referred to as space stations, but space stations don't go from planet to planet, they remain in one spot. So, from a certain point of view, both Death Stars are ships. What class would they be?
I would class Corvette 100m-200m Frigate 200m-400m Light Cruiser 400m-800m Crusier 800m-1200m Star Cruiser 1200m-2000m Battleship/Battlecruiser 2000m-5000m Dreadnought 5000m-15000m Star Dreadnought 15000m-20000m

EckhartsLadder, what would the Supremacy MSD be classified as? Even though we don't know much about it, I think on size and possible function, we need a new category, like Super-carrier Heavy Dreadnought or Ultra-heavy Dreadnought.
I have a few 3d cgi models I could send in if you need anything for a video. I have a concept tie and a few star destroyers, but i can make pretty much any vehicle as long as there are references
I'm honestly curious... Aren't all ships larger than a corvette now obsolete? I mean starfighter size vessels have hyperdrives and it's been established in lore you can hyperspace ram ships to destroy them without regards to weapons or armor.
There is actuall super drednought class that includes 2 ships: Eye of Palpatine and that was biggest ship ever (it was as long as an executor but it was designed to imitate an asteroid so it was much wider and thicker) it actually could indoctrinate like mass effect reaper. The second one is is star of corusount (I should adress that its smaller but it was old republic ship) it took a beating from 3 imperial fleets i think? then fell down from the orbit on hoth and hull was intact.
The lasers fired from clone blasters are too slow to hit a Spartan. Spartans perceive things in slow motion. Even Rex was seen dodging a blaster shot in the clone wars multiple times.
If you ever watched halo legends the package, blue team ran through an entire CAS class assault carrier. The feats they pull off there are more akin to the books. The games usually lessen the power of a Spartan for gameplay reasons.

+The Immortal Super Being But warriors have the ridged heads. Plus the height for normal Xenomorphs changes alot in different stories, movies, comics and games so Alien Isolations Xenos are bigger (which they should be. About time Xenomorphs stopped being the same size as us)

I have a "what if" video idea.
What if the Empire used used all those resources used to build the 2 Death Stars and instead built Star destroyers, it would pretty much triple the Imperial navy and I think that the Empire, with so much more Star destroyers, could have crushed the rebellion.

freudian nightmare could probably take them all on at once and win
I wish they'd use or at least cleave close to the navel warship types.
Major classifications:
- commercial ships (used for ship classes designed for non-military purposes)
- industrial ships ( designed for non-commercial non-war purposes like transport, hauling, etc)
- sub-capital ships (war ships destined for war/battle but smaller than capital size used to supplement capital ships)
- capital Ships (large military warships that serve as the backbone of fleets)
In each classification there's types or classes based on size and function:
Industrial ships:
- transport ships (used for transporting personnel)
- hauler/cargo ships (vastly varies in size but used to transport goods and cargo material)
Sub-capital warships:
-Corrvettes (small ships used for fighting other ships)
- frigates ( slightly bigger than corvettes but not by much. Generally used for harming other small ships and fighters and able to deploy fighters tho not much)
- destroyers (bigger than frigates by a tad but able to use cruiser sized weapons, designed to take out specialty ships and larger ships)
- cruisers (medium sized warships with bigger guns and armor but slower)
- battle cruisers (slightly larger than cruisers that use battle ship guns but vulnerable armor, glass Cannons)
- battleship (largest sub capital warship, difficulty in fighting smaller ships (i.e. Star destroyers))
Capital ships:
- carriers (giant support warships used for ability to carry a large number of personell, fighters, and other warships. Essentially a mini movable command center)
- dreadnoughts (giant capital sized warships designed for mounting giant weapons for dealing the most damage possible. Best against structures and such(i.e. Executor))
- super-weapons ("ships" that are ginormous and singularly used for their ability to mount weapons of catastrophic destruction (deathstars, mega star destroyer, etc)
From there there are specific ship classes that designate specific designs and or function (the fact that all three levels are all "classes" makes it initially confusing) that are usually named after the name given to the first of that line.
Then theres specialists classes of the above like assault frigate, reconn cruisers, and the like. But they are just specialization to the class that are diff enough to warrant a name.
Then there's ships outside of the big 4 classifications like:
- entertainment barges (I guess that'd be included in commercial ships)
- fighters (1-2 manned starships used almost exclusively to combat other deployed fighters and supplement larger crewed war ships(it's not included because they don't require a "crew" per-say. )
Then there's the term "flagship" which isn't a class but rather a designation of a ship (almost exclusively a capital ship) that serves as the centerpiece of a large fleet. Though more than one can be active in a battle.
^ I feel like this would be better for Star Wars as it's more recognizable in that it cleaves to established navel classifications.
Just imo tho
One of the defining characteristics of a star destroyer is the dagger like shape
3:35 anyone remember the part from lego star wars where the dudes get off this red ship, and then it explodes?
what from that little animated rebel fleet at the beginning of the video?
I think would want too fly one of thoses ugly ships, I'd probably make it look good ;)
I'd get 2 B-Wing bodies and attach them to an ATAT head and call it a BAT-Wing!
jwatson15
Amazing
id jam a z95 fuselage through a TIE defender
on each space between wings there would be a light turbolaser
it would be named 'predator class heavy assault fighter'
also i would swap concussion missiles for proton torpedoes
@@doubledekercouch good luck getting the power system working on that thing
Good luck in the DIE-Wing.
Can you explain all major battles i get confused in your videos which battle was what
Star wars seems to play pretty fast and loose with ship classes, espcally considering how a good deal of it's space battles are based on wwii type naval combat.
simplest way to fix this is to just call it different fleets using different terminology. This is not uncommon in real life where different military's will use different terms for the same thing- the German's in WW1 did not use the term "destroyer" and called their small ships torpedo ships for instance.
Star destroyer should just be a term that was created by the Republic and later Empire to describe their main line of Heavy Cruisers/Battle Cruisers
also Terms change over time what they describe - "frigates" were once sailing "cruisers" but then became cheap escort ships- while the mission of the "Cruiser" went from long range patrol and attack to heavy escort in real life.
In real life originally the Term "cruiser" was just a ship sailing by itself- and if you applied modern terms onto classical sailing warfare a sailing Frigate could be classified as a Cruiser.
and once powerful ships become surpassed and obsolete-
the Old Republic "Dreadnought" for instance could have been classified as a Dreadnought historically but time has made it obsolete.
An x-wing is quite close to a Corsair or a P51 (a small stretch since it wasn't carrier-based)
Could you do a video were you rank all the space faring sci fi civilizations from least advanced to most advanced
You should do more classic Vs videos
The LAAT drop ship can also be classified as a gunship.
this video deserves to be alot longer lol
Why aren't you doing Timber Wolf (BattleTech) vs AT-AT?
can u explain everyday items/ food drinks/bandaids things of that like in the star wars verse and how they are generally used or are suppose to be used
The mandalorian Kandosii class dreadnought isn't actually a dreadnought right? It's way too small. What category would it actually fit in?
Not sure how his video would go but a halo version would be pretty cool
You forgot to add the Death Stars and World Devastators in your list. Granted, in Star Wars, the Death Stars are referred to as space stations, but space stations don't go from planet to planet, they remain in one spot. So, from a certain point of view, both Death Stars are ships. What class would they be?
I would class
Corvette 100m-200m
Frigate 200m-400m
Light Cruiser 400m-800m
Crusier 800m-1200m
Star Cruiser 1200m-2000m
Battleship/Battlecruiser 2000m-5000m
Dreadnought 5000m-15000m
Star Dreadnought 15000m-20000m
😂 the one in the thumb that's says cruiser is a dreadnought....great video just saying that was funny to me 🥂
Its name is dreadnought but not its class.
Dreadnought-Class heavy cruiser
@@v-Lex-v first you said not it's class but then you said it's exactly what you said it's not 😂......
@@jeffreylessard7538 ... Its the ships N A M E. Class as in VERSION.
IMPERIAL-Class Star Destroyer
ARQUITENS-Class Light Cruiser
QUASER-Class Carrier
VENATOR-Class Star Destroyer
DREADNOUGHT-Class heavy cruiser
Its not difficult to understand.
I’m curious, why use the size difference metric at all, why not use role in a fleet?
Because we cant have 100m Dreadnoughts and 200000m Frigates
there seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today
EckhartsLadder, what would the Supremacy MSD be classified as? Even though we don't know much about it, I think on size and possible function, we need a new category, like Super-carrier Heavy Dreadnought or Ultra-heavy Dreadnought.
Are just a battle station
I have a few 3d cgi models I could send in if you need anything for a video. I have a concept tie and a few star destroyers, but i can make pretty much any vehicle as long as there are references
I'm honestly curious... Aren't all ships larger than a corvette now obsolete? I mean starfighter size vessels have hyperdrives and it's been established in lore you can hyperspace ram ships to destroy them without regards to weapons or armor.
Lore vid on the Zann Consortium :D
Does the Assertor class star dreadnought have a super laser
Martian Tripod vs AT-AT plssssssssss

This is like my 15th try
There is actuall super drednought class that includes 2 ships: Eye of Palpatine and that was biggest ship ever (it was as long as an executor but it was designed to imitate an asteroid so it was much wider and thicker) it actually could indoctrinate like mass effect reaper. The second one is is star of corusount (I should adress that its smaller but it was old republic ship) it took a beating from 3 imperial fleets i think? then fell down from the orbit on hoth and hull was intact.
what is the star wars Anime you show at beginning

Blue team (Halo) VS the 501st (star wars)
You want a team of spartans vs a whole legion? Thats dumb
The 501st? That is an entire army of itself...Interesting.
Goofy Goober I'm a massive halo fan, but you guys overestimate Spartans way too much. It's sad and honestly annoying. They would lose. Lol
My preferred class would be battlecruiser. It can out shoot smaller ships but out maneuver dreadnoughts
