Same thought. Know what else I’m thinking 🤔...I’ve spent enough time/money on my cycling as well...time to reinvest in my wife and daughters. VC brah...don’t sacrifice yourself AND put distance in your relationships...trust u bro...but seriously keep it in balance my fellow humanbeing.

Unpop opin. I like VC. He's funny and he motivates me to do my personal best. But this is some straight Truman Show shit. Can you imagine filming these intimate moments of your family life for public consumption? It's beyond weird and I can't anymore.

Before kids I have trained 8 - 10 hours a week that was allot. After kids 3 - 6 hours. I can't imagine 20 hours per week with kids. I'm enjoying this series thanks for sharing your daily grind.

I lost my family, wife, kids and house for being all about me through the cycling taking over my life, became obsessed, all for no gains in the end, nothing should ever come between family and sport, you never get time back over with your children..great video 📹

I love Cycling... but these are a lot of the reasons I’ve had to step away personally , for the time being... the training, the time away from family, and those zero motivation days start stacking up.
Great job for standing up and talking about this Tyler, it’s not spoken about enough. Marcel Kittel just spoke about his retirement for the same reasons
I look forward to the day that I miss my bike and get to throw my leg back over that saddle and can commit 100% ... till then, Pedal Hard everyone!!!

Bruh... this is the realist video you’ve done... It’s a difficult balancing act... the workouts are workouts, but obligations, family commitments and “quality" family time suffer... kudos to you recognizing it and sharing it with everyone... yes cycling is a selfish sport and often times your struggles are in private... it’s refreshing to see/know that you’re not alone in that process of trying to be as fit as you can... love the Socrates quote... mad respect bro... ✊🏽🍻

Bro this is truly one of the most inspiring videos that I've ever watched. It really hit home for me because I've always focused on sports, being as fast as I can, cycling for long hours, then training in the gym, swimming, and running weekly as well to maintain some sort of all-rounded strength but I used to never be able to balance my training and my studies. I do think that it is a challenge that ill have to find ways to overcome later on but dude, you showed me that it's possible to have that balance. And man I don't want to give up looking and feeling great and being fast because that makes me feel Flippen amazing and it's my me time. Thanks, bro for opening up my eyes!!

That was such an incredible, honest video. I have two young kids 3 and 1 1/2. I understand the constant battle between family, work, self health, and personal cycling goals. I’ve often envisioned my family growing up and me missing everything while in saddle. Thanks for reminding all of us that balance is important but family is first.

  • @Paddyhudson

We all got into cycling because it was super fun to do. More than fitness, competition, culture, it was about taking a break to have fun in a way totally different from real life. Whatever your escape is, when it becomes a chore, the whole point of it being your source of relief, becomes mute. Having a good time in life is what matters most, if you aren’t having fun anymore then something’s wrong.

  • @crypto_que

Videos like this get overlooked. This is one of the best cycling videos ever. What you’re doing saves relationships. Fitness of any kind strains relationships of all kinds. Cycling has several overlaps too involving financial strain or gain based on our performance and perceptions of reward. You’re a good man Charlie Brown

Watched 11 and 12 tonight while catching a short Zwift. Hit me the right way. I squeeze to get in 6 hours or so a week of riding time. For me this is usually 3-4 rides. Usually a couple short and 1 ride that's 2-3 hours. It's all I can get in. Work, nearly 3 year old, and wife all have schedules and things that demand time and attention. So to go from encouragement that I'm becoming an OK cyclist, to the absolute recognition of this being a selfish endeavor isn't lost on me. Keep them coming!

Tyler I just wanna say how much I enjoy this series (and all your production as well), and the quality? It is mind blowing! This particular episode is literally like documentary level quality (in a very good way) and I also use your video to learn English, It´s a very natural way to learn for me since the topic is something that I live by myself and I can learn a think or two from a older and more experience person, so Thank You for that as well

Many cyclists / people / family fathers / bro's / dudes etc have character but only a few are special because of their character. Maybe that's why they are so unique because they give everything. embodying a character and raising it to the highest level takes courage, authenticity and a certain lightheartedness. thank you for being who you are and for letting us take part! massive respect for you and your great family! stay tuned brooooohhh !!!

I get off the bike after 160k and just want to lay there for a few hours, I respect that you put that mental state aside, to do what needs to be done. This whole series has been quite personal and kudos to you for getting through everything! Keep given er, almost there!

The positivity that VC emanates has become my main take away more than any of the training/cycling content he has to offer.
I really idolize the Greeks for their virtue towards physical training as a way of life, as opposed to it being an add on or a hobby that one may or may not take up. Props to our man for motivating us in all the right ways.

Omg brother this vlog has me so hooked. I have the same thoughts about this as you and you wife. (Around 11:00 min mark) I will not leave this house without cleaning the common area (kitchen mostly) and when I return it’s all about them once I’ve showered and eaten (sometimes at the same time) anyone whom believes they should be catered upon needs to be shat upon by there spouse unless and only unless cycling is the career that is making the household income and I mean the entire tire family involvement in cycling as a career but even then how can anyone even a pro be that big of a douche. My wife will make me dinner, prep a salts bath and some other nice recovery me stuff if I do a major achievement ride because she’s actually proud of me but you better believe the next day I’m making it about her as much as I can

This video of all the videos that are fantastic viewing, is really just absurd. The idea that giving the 'family time's of a few hours in a day and 'forgetting' about riding is nonsense in reality. What I'd love to see from this vlog is VC giving his wife 20hrs+ a week for HER and then coming back to cycling a month later and doing a vlog about what life is like when your partner wants to spend half their awake life with their friends and without you. I bet she would prefer that to the occasional 'my wife is amazing' comment that sounds good but really is just fluff compared to the hours and hours of selfish solo cycling. That being said, keep it going, because as someone not in the vc family, I'm here for the cycling content !

But when I’m home it’s just as taxing as I’m trying to make up for not being there for my kids for a week doing school runs and sporting activities, being a husband, doing the yard chores and cleaning and just managing to squeeze in 6-8hrs of training a week.
But it’s finding your limits and working within those because we love doing what we do.

My wife and I had this conversation last week. I started riding in March - lost 40 pounds, seeing a lot of gains now that I’m actually training more seriously. But fitting in 8-10 hrs/wk with a job, wife, and two little kids (2&4) is tough. You definitely have to be awesome off the bike to make it all work. Having a 20 minute video to watch every day isn’t helping with my time management 😉

Really nice take on all this, thanks. I got into endurance sports over the last year currently doing 6 hours a week. I'm not competitive & don't race. My wife actually got us into cycling & we now do joined rides with her on an ebike and me on a regular MTB. That way many of my zone 1/2 rides are actually together time. I feel many amateurs don't get that performance really isn't health. Cardiac Health is actually reduced by spending so long at higher intensities.
I do find cycling on a spin bike is really an easy way we can also spend time together. Im on the bike watching TV with her on the sofa.
Now obviously the above isn't a perfect recipe for executing a complex workout but it does the job of getting fitness gains
And for sure your kids are gonna remember that meal. Just think back to the memories you have of your parents. Great family time

I definitely appreciate this deeper look into the stuff you're cooking. I plan in trying to make some of it.

Your video production keep getting better, A-grade Hollywood stuff right there. You know how to tell a story and shoot a camera.
It's all about being flexible with your training hours. People first, stack or flex training hours on different days/times as life happens.

Love this vlog series VC. Definitely an inspiration to my own life. Luckily my wife trains as much or more than me but when kids come into the picture I can imagine the balancing act gets more difficult. Yuh 🤙🏻

I can totally relate to the selfish statement. I got home from work one day, went straigth out for a ride and was pissed at my gf for not preparing any dinner. We are very lose about who's going to cook. Usually the one with the easyer working day. I totally forgot that my bike riding is MY personal Hobby. And I cannot blame anyone if I'm too tired to cook after training!!!

A herculean effort to combine 20+ hrs training, a demanding job together with a family to support. Tyler has shown from the off that family still comes first, wherever happens. I'm sure it has and will take its toll but from what we have seen his wife and kids are totally supportive which goes a very way to making this months challenge ends on a positive note... just a side note when gcn Hank tried to " Train Like A Tour de France Pro Cyclist Around A 9-5 Job?" he lasted 3 days.... enough said....

In honesty, all sports endeavors can be selfish. I am saying this while looking in a mirror. But I know skiers, golfers, hang gliders, triathletes, crossfit champions, this is the balance we all struggle with, wanting to push ourselves yet be someone that is there for others and not merely a selfish athlete.
    Very worthy discussion.
