Idk how I forgot to mention this but music has also helped me sooo much as well - making playlists, zoning out/dancing to music or playing it in the background while I do my other hobbies is one my fav things to do nowadays
social media has been very unenjoyable for me with the rise of rage bait content, and how comfortable people are with being mean online recently. my hobbies are crocheting, scrapbooking and journaling. I love your channel, calm videos are so refreshing with how overly edited and attention grabbing content is made to be now.
I’ve decided to reduce my time online on social media in 2025. There’s just too much toxicity online. It’s the same ish day in and day out. I like to journal, read, and I’m starting to listen to positive podcasts. 2025 is a year of A LOT of shifting for me, so I need as much positive energy as possible. UA-cam is my favorite platform!
not using your phone for the first hour after waking up is HUGE omg, I have noticed a big difference doing this. also love your point about how social media FEELS like connection if we've grown up with it and it's just normal, but it's not true connection, especially if we're just scrolling and observing. finding people in my community, even just acquaintances that I see every week at a shared event, has been so helpful for me!! ps always happy when I see you've posted a video!! :)
I deleted social media a few days before Halloween. I picked up journaling, reading, writing, and scrapbooking during the time. I got back yesterday and I was expecting a huge hit of dopamine but I was so turned off by it after being on there for five minutes. So glad I realized that I can live without it. Its so boring and unbearable😭
It’s boring copy and paste content where everyone is the same. Social media is really quite boring. So many more interesting things going on in real life.
this year my relationship to social media changed sooo much. i noticed it negatively affecting me to a point where i said i gotta get off of this. draining me, too much comparison. definitely makes a difference using it less. im still navigating how much but i have a time limit on it so i dont use it to much. im currently finding myself wanting to devote more of my free time to hobbies or betterment of self
I started knitting the beginning of the month when I got sick. Definitely has helped me unplug. I took an almost 2 month break from insta. Recently re-activated but I’m bored with it and don’t feel the need to post really at all. I like knitting because I can take it anywhere with me and I gravitate towards that rather than grabbing my phone. I’ve been exploring new UA-camrs that resonate more with my current state. Always look forward to your videos though, I feel like we have grown together and are on similar wave lengths. I too have been very okay with solo hobbies, not even needing to want to hang out with people. I still occasionally get lonely, I’ve been single for a while and don’t have many friends in the area I live in now. I deff want to get into classes as well. I want to do knitting and sewing classes… I’d also like to get back into going to pole and Lyra classes… finances just haven’t been in order for all that but whatever.
No foreal. I've already been tapped out of IG and most of the time I'll pop on and off of Facebook, twitter etc just to stay up to date but I don't do social media. These days' I'm on UA-cam, I'm painting, sketching, walking, yoga, reading just living with ease. Kudos to you Lynette!
answering ur question, I do not have social media on general about almost 4 years now, and I dont miss it at all! actually, it seems to me that never existed, lol. the only thing that I can say that I am kind of left off is from some events from places that I would like to go and that use instagram to post everything, so sometimes I miss some nice events because of it. also, this detachment shows who really cares about you. not being on the internet as a gen Z (I'm 25) literally makes you kind of invisible in some ways because people (that are not so close) literally forget that you exist. I am very private person, so I really enjoy this feeling, but I dont know if everyone would. plus, it taught me to get rid from the need of attention, which was a total game changer for me. after years without it, I literally do not see any reason to post a selfie on the internet, for example. why would I do that? like, I literally see no point at all in doing it, so it really changed me and my perspective about myself and approval on general. but this is totally personal! the only ones that I use are youtube and pinterest, and i really like them. yk, I like technology, but at the same time I really miss life before social media be so viral, and I also think that life really happens outside of it. you can literally get lost on the world of the internet and forget about real life and this is pretty much scary and I think that we all had been there somehow. I am taking painting classes, which I wanted since I was a teenager, and it is truly incredible being crafty with your hand, and not digitally! I think that we are learning to come back to the amazing activities that life can offer after so much internet in anything and everything. 🥰
This is so cool wow thank you for sharing! This literally seems like a dream to me. I def agree, I wish I got to experience life before technology took over
This video literally popped up as i opened the app to search for “I stopped watching tv”! My relationship with social media has definitely dwindled. I’m only on Instagram every once in a while to share, or when I’m absolutely bored. If I’m doom scrolling it’s usually a sign that I’m not doing well so i try to redirect myself or allow myself to feel bored. For me Social media isn’t the same as of late. I find myself gravitating toward UA-cam the most because it’s less curated and I’m able to find more genuine connections. Thanks for sharing ❤
For a second social media took my capability to think for myself. There is so much content with opinions, ideas, world views etc which could inspire but also take ones ability to develop an own opinion and self of sense. I love journaling. Recently I started writing essays on my laptop about topics that interest me or have been going through my mind. Writing fulfills me and gives me confidence because I get to know myself better. Minimalizing my apps, contacts etc AND not going on my phone the first few hours after waking up definitely changed the game because you start your day with a clear mind. I love to wake up a little earlier and sit by myself drinking tea on my bed during the beautiful christmas time and sometimes talk to myself (I am a hopeless romantiziser😂). Sometimes you really have to force yourself to not look on your phone, it might be tough in the beginning but you actually dont want to grab your phone anymore😂
I’ve been realizing the last couple of years that I’m too attached to social media. This video came in time, as I’m looking to reduce even more in December. UA-cam is my main social media source at this point.
I take regular social media breaks! About once a year I dedicate time to deleting everything (facebook, twitter, tiktok). It creates a lot of mental space for me and gives me a chance to enjoy my hobbies. I love journaling and yoga and resonated a lot with this video. As someone who is 27, I totally understand having a different relationship with these platforms now versus when I was in my teens!
I would not have social media if I didn't have a business. Years ago, I decided to take a 90-day break from it, and that turned into 4 YEARS 😅. Tbh, it was some of the most peaceful, less stressed out and most rejuvenating years of my life. Nowadays, I just find a balance. ❤ Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts! I love going to art galleries, working out, listening to music and studying up on my passions.
I love this topic! I can totally relate, I make content as well but I understand having boundaries with social media too. You mentioned the Nintendo switch, that’s one of my favorite things to do outside of social media as well as working and trying new workouts. And then there’s my dogs and going hiking with them. There’s soooooo much to do outside of social media and getting caught up with that “fomo” feeling ❤
i used social media a lot these days for learning english. it's something that i put on my daily basis and i utilize ur channel for my learning journey. i enjoy watching ur videos because i find it's easy to understand and love the way you express urself through this content💗
I feel like the content I consume now reflects me in my middle school years 😭I love true celebrity culture, I don't care for the influencers that post their every step/product anymore (I have a couple OGS I will always support but I'm not quick to jump to their content anymore), I love listening to videos like this/self care tips (not even products, just methods), celeb news commentary, soft white underbelly interviews (I listen to them all day it's crazy), funny entertainment like Druski, etc. I'm just over consumerism and drawn out vlogs now. I don't even have patience to watch, I just like to listen to them most of the time.
Thank you for sharing this it was really insightful! One thing that’s really helped me with making sure I’m not spending too much time on the social media platforms that I have is by turning off the notifications on them so I’m only getting on there when I feel like it or I know I have things to post or respond to. I have been making social media work for me so I love creating content that will add value to someone’s life or encourage and uplift them in one way or another! I love journaling it’s something I’ve been doing for years there’s just something so special about unloading all your thoughts and feelings into one safe and private space! I also listen/ watch to a lot of podcasts that teach me things as well as motivate and encourage me! Next year I’m looking at getting into trying different forms of fitness outside of the gym and taking up singing lessons acting interests me too! Sorry this is turning into an essay 😅 BUT UA-cam is my fave platform ❤
just started this but we're so aligned lol ive been off instagram since august, just really felt like not keeping up with other people and being on my phone so much
I utilize social media strictly for fashion & lifestyle content like this! Sometimes I dabble into other interest but I mostly use it to try to grow my own content. Rn I find myself being in bed and scrolling on tiktok.. so I am breaking fro that however for IG I just delete it whenever I feel like i need a break and reinstall it. It’s a journey but something that I don’t overthink anymore like I used to
love the video Lynette! I often feel like you and I are living very similar themes. I just turned 33 this past wednesday (sag sun, leo moon, libra rising) and I gotta say that i’ve been reflecting on my hobbies and experiences over the past year and getting off social media has been one of the best decisions i’ve taken. my depression is gone 😂 I took a compassion & mediation course through stanford university online and loved it and think you might too! I also picked up my camera for youtube content creation and i’ve been really enjoying that. you’re one of my favorite creators and i’m happy to see all the ways you are trying to take care of yourself. sending you love from seattle 🫶🏽
I also think that living in major cities like nyc LA or Chicago is a big plus because there is always something to do. However in smaller cities it’s sometimes hard to find stuff to do so oftentimes we resort to traveling as a way for us to feel like we’re in a new environment.
Deleted Instagram for about 2 weeks now and my mental health has never been better. It feels nice to not see what other people are doing and then comparing where I’m at vs other people. I have so much more time now and have invested that time into learning new things and getting more done. I have a relative who is a pretty big influencer and had a large following, you’d think this person had it all, luxury items, nice apartment, nice car etc. little does anyone know the LENGTHS this person goes to make all of it look real. They literally asked me to help pay their rent and car note when they literally just posted a photo with full Balenciaga from head to toe like 😑 it’s soooooooooooooo fake and the ppl who put on this front to make their life look ‘perfect’ really do not have it like that.
me personally i love working out & just being to myself lol but im trying to find new hobbies to get off my phone too because doom scrolling is real & can make me spiral but thanks for the video made me want to think outside the box & im going to try the exploring my city trick never thought about that
i just got rid of social media because it's too much misery. My issue at this point is UA-cam (exhibit A). But I want to work to limit my time on it. It's a tough addiction to break
I like thriller n mystery n horror movies, sometimes the of the end of some movies left me "huh"? What just happened?I also like going online read the reviews to see what other ppl take on it.
My beautiful blk Queen. I'm always looking forward to all your videos. Keep that throne of yours guarded 💂♂️ 💂♀️ and continue to reign over the peasants
I don't have TikTok. I started right when it was fresh and then I just quickly loss interest & didn't want to partake. I'm really a YT person. There's more storytelling and a handful of creators who do like a cinema style that I find engaging. I'm still on IG, I think I'll forever love IG but it's SO boring now. Lol. As a creator, I'm seeing that as an opportunity to be more creative on there. But yeah, there's definitely a shift.
I loved listening to this. Social media has rlly done a number on a lot of us. There are positives and negatives to it and I believe now we are finally realizing how negative it can be. I definitely want to lessen my screen time more and more. I want to get into crocheting soon 🤎
I truly appreciate this, I always love and appreciate your videos! I literally was just thinking about how I can be a content creator without being so addicted to Instagram and TikTok. But I’m trying to read, work out and paint more. But we’ll get there 🩵
Idk how I forgot to mention this but music has also helped me sooo much as well - making playlists, zoning out/dancing to music or playing it in the background while I do my other hobbies is one my fav things to do nowadays

I deactivated social media the day after the election 😂 it’s been almost a month and I’m so proud of myself!
Omg I thought about doing the same, love this for you!
I did the same thing! I've been off and on social media all year and i think this time it might be for good... other than UA-cam of course
I just deactivated all my social media a few days ago. Gotta live in the real world for a while..

So I'm a Podcaster (video based) which means I produce episodes that require me to be seen on camera ....but lately Ive been regretting making that decision because I've reached a point where I dont want to be on social media really at all. So I've set my next few episodes to run on autopilot (I recorded them months ago) 😂 and I've removed the apps I use to showcase the podcast to a different phone
The apps are no longer on my personal phone AT ALL.....now I'm deciding to make a decision soon in the future to completely ghost social media all together because IM SO OVER IT
So I'm thinking of converting to just audio based podcast moving forward
& This holiday season is the first in a long time where I didn't feel compelled to pull out a camera and take pictures for "the gram"
I just enjoyed time with my family "Off The Grid" and it felt soooo good y'all
It's time to go back to living without feeling the need to take a picture for the world, ITS TIME TO LIVE IN THE MOMENT AND BE PRESENT!
I 2nd the gummies and a movie, my latest was Arcane season 2 - and it was GLORIOUS.

On tiktok heavy and unhealthy. UA-cam is healthier for me
They would put a add for instagram when I open the video 😂, and I’m currently no on it
I am sooo close to deleting tik tok! Deleted twitter a while ago and just hope to over time get off each app.
Ugh I feel you I’ve deleted it a few times. Sometimes even for a few days is helpful

Gummies?
Could we please get a curly hair tutorial? ?!
I truly appreciate this, I always love and appreciate your videos! I literally was just thinking about how I can be a content creator without being so addicted to Instagram and TikTok. But I’m trying to read, work out and paint more. But we’ll get there 🩵
