I did the passenger's side in 30 seconds. After 40 mins and my hands destroyed, I'm still trying to install the driver's side...
For anyone watching this video today I found that rubber kitchen gloves grip the hell out of the bulb base. Made a 1 hour job into a 30 second job. Try it.
+Phillip Kiefer that's a great idea! Thanks
Phillip Kiefer thanks for the tip. It works with small plastic kitchen bag too!
I just hope my led DRL's last me the car's life span...
Thank you for your video! I was looking to do this to my Jetta too, yours is the first DIY Ifound! Subscribed :D
Excellent JETTA, engine and lights!!!
Easy peasy! Love it
Found one aid that helps a lot on th DRLs. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to reach in and twist. On assembly, a spritz of WD-40 on the perimeter of the socket (not in the contact, and before bulb is inserted) makes the twist-lock motion much easier.
+JT Pedersen that's a great tip!
No problem to change it, i got smaller hands than my brother but it’s still a tight area. The video was very helpful!
I'm glad you liked it!
The drl worked well, i replaced the passenger’s side without any problem. I then proceeded with The drivers side but the light wouldn’t turn on... could it be the socket..? Need help
Ebay 7506 LED light bulbs.. Your welcome.. Also remove top bulb above it to give you more room. You can leave it attached to the wire and move it to the side. Then install DRL..
So did the LEDs last for you or did they die? I have had bad experiences with non incandescent bulbs. They never last as long. Let me know please.
by any chance would you know what bulb I have to use for my parking or reverse light in led style
look it up..GOOGLE is a great experience.. If thats too much for you go to autozone and they will tell you..
This might be harder for someone with meatier hands... I'm 6'4" and my hands are fairly large but pretty slender, and didn't have much trouble. Did both sides in about 15 minutes. So just plan around that.
I just bought these LED DTDL and was wandering if the LED would trigger the light bulb warning light on the dashboard? I keep reading about adding a load resistor but in you experience did the warning light come on and did you experience any issues? I have a 2011 VW Jetta with the same body style
When I wanna know too
How to reset the light that pop up when u change the light
Is there any other way to get those bulbs? It says they’re not available on Amazon.
eBay
Took me almost a hour because I have wide/ big hands... my shits are all cut up
do you know what led size bulb would i need for my 2014 jetta se
1156 CANBUS LED
For DRL 7056 LED's or 1156 LED's. Available at AutoZone, Advance Auto or Pep Boys.
I can not twist my bulb off.. it's literally in the weirdest angle
Hi I changed mine also but now the dashboard daylight warning light is open can we fix it?
I wanna know too
This video is completely misleading. This IS NOT EASY, IT IS HARD TO ACHIEVE (not impossible but REALLY HARD). My hands are all cut and took me awhile to do this. Other videos here in UA-cam show people taking the fender liner out, others the headlamp assembly (this one requires to take the bumper cover off). Not to discourage anyone as the results are great, just be advised.
Yes, for some people it is difficult for some reason. The first time I did this for the video, it was easy, but when I went back to do it again, it was really difficult. What do you mean by bumper cover?
Bro Ive replaced mine 4 times now because they burn out does anyone have a recomendation on a brand because ive tried road pros, sylvania, yamimoto and some other brand both on the cheaper side off amazon..
Sounds you like you may have a short somewhere. I'd get it checked out by a pro
lights are not available on amazon at the moment. where else could i purchase them and why does it say only for back up reverse lights
Sorry for the late reply. I hadn't noticed until about 6 months ago that the link was dead. I've since updated it!
Ebay has tons!
Link doesnt work again lol
@@doraemifa Ebay 7506 LED light bulbs..
@@doraemifa Just installed me some lastnight 🤙🏻
Does it work with 2011 Volkswagen Jetta base SE? Would I need a converter/capacitor for it since I would be changing it from incandescent to LED?
+SpudCommJuan you don't need a converter as long as you use the recommended LEDs I listed in the comments.
What do i do if led dl bulbs create a spider web pattern on the wall.
Alan Shcherb might just be the brand you purchased. Like that's probably the pattern the LEDs are laid out.
Fight crime.
Instead of Bat-Signal, Spidey-Signal???
Can h7 lights go on for the low beams?
Michael Gonzalez Yes. Those work fine.
@@CamCitizenTV Sucks because my Mark5 gti needs vcds to turn them on. There not on from factory in the USA. Gotta switch to Brazil settings in vcds
Did you change your headlights to led also? If so what brand did you go with and do you have a video of the installation and final result. I liked the way your running lights looked I had one that was out and I switched to led they look way better. Thanks
Hi Robert,
No, I haven't changed the headlights to LED, but I'd like to some day. I will definitely be making a video on that install as well!
You lost me when you made it easy looking "comes right out" my butt. I am willing to replace an engine on a Toyota than to do this again. Note: I dont know how to change that either, but fore sure its easier than the jetta stuff.
Wasn’t that bad. It helps if you pull the top bulb while attached to wires out of the way. That’s key!
@@hardcore4476 yea your key didn't help 😆
After 2 hours and a blister on my hand it's jammed on 1 side and just not coming off.
Off to mechanic.
Which LEDs and how did you decide on these?
They are 1156 CANBUS LED's. I can't remember the make, but I bought them at Walmart. Pack of two for about $15. The CANBUS bit is important for European cars, as the car will constantly send extra voltage to the light to check if it is out or not. A non CANBUS light will constantly make your car think the light is out.
I was going to get the bulbs from superbrightleds.com - but even though know they would have been a higher quality, I couldn't justify spending $19 PER bulb.
I got a pair of Sylvania ZEVO 7506 LED's installed (still bleeding), they are both working and look great, but now the idiot light on my dash for the running light is on constantly. VW dealer says there is nothing they can do about it. Do I need to get the CANBUS bulbs?
Clark Pickett i was reading about adding a load resistor to curb that problem. I just got Sylvania LED 7506 and I’m going to try them out. I’m just tired of replacing light bulbs non stop on this car.
Hey this installation won't get a error code ??? If that happens what can you do ??
+Ramon Ramirez you have to get error free bulbs. Check out the link in the description!
Daily Dirt thanks !!!
+Ramon Ramirez no problem!
Will this work on my 2016 Jetta sport?
ForeignBorn Patriot yes, 2011 to 2016 they were all built identical.
ur 2016 jetta has led daytime running lights along the whole bottom does it not??
@@studley31fly23 nope I just got one yesterday. The SE trim and up do have it though
Will it give me a burned light warning?
no
How to replace the running lamps on a 2013 tdi Jeddah can't find how any where
help me. someone has to know how to replace 2013 tdi desll pamp
what the hell is a jeddah tdi desll pamp?
"Jetta tdi diesel lamp" procedure is exactly the same.
Seriously, it takes so much longer to change the drivers side than passenger side. And the LED bulds died QUICKLY. The incandescent bulbs lasted so much longer.
How long did they last i have a 2015 jetta tsi se
Michael Gonzalez Are you referring to the LED replacements, or the original incandescent bulbs? Normally, incandescents will last a few years, but LED bulbs are far superior and will last over ten years.
I meant the led ones sorry. You got them at walmart?
+Michael Gonzalez Yes I did.
Okay thanks your video is very informative!
Thanks for your kind words!
LED looks nicer and up to date but I was told by some friends in the car industry that there could be a problem with electric bulb that's not OEM . Liable to have all sorts of dash problems, not durable and they might not match ohms or however u say it. Lol not a electrician by any means...
does this work on 2014 Jetta MK6
+Christian Rios Yes, my friend has a 2014 and it does work.
Daily Dirt I don't need a led resistor right
No, you don't. Just make sure you get the LED's with "CAN BUS" on them, because Euro manufacturers require those.
Daily Dirt which bulb do I need
I originally got mine from Walmart, but I recommend getting better quality ones like these: amzn.to/2nJRvtJ
Honestly, I just did this on my 2014 TDI for the first time, and it took maybe 20 minutes total. I would say I have average sized hands.
Glad it worked out for you!
i found out last night that once your done with this project your hands and wrists will make everyone question if your trying to off yourself... screw this job
Funnily enough, the first time I did this for the video, I had no problems. The second time though? Cut up hands and lots of swearing involved!
The passenger side, no problem at all. The driver side drl is a bitch to remove and especially a bitch to re install!!!
+Basement31 Yeah, I'm hearing from different people that they had issues with either side sometimes!
Daily Dirt gotto have slim/tiny hands for easy install
Should have done driver side first lol. The video would have to 60 minutes or longer.
Show them how difficult it is on the drivers side.
It wasn't any more difficult for me than the passenger side, but according to the comments you're not the first to have this issue.
Sorry but your video COMPLETELY downplays what a pain in the a$$ this actually is. Were you a Chinese contortionist in a previous life? HOW DID YOU GET THE DRLs OUT SO DAMNED EASILY? We've been trying for an hour on the drivers side and only have chopped up knuckles and bruised wrists to show for it!
+Sarah Liners I'm sorry it's not easy for you. Mine just untwisted right off. Make sure you're going counter - clockwise
2 hours + WD40 and a whole lot of bruising! Even had my 13 yr old daughter with her tiny little hands give it a try. Wish Volkswagen would have given us an extra inch to work with! Didn't mean to be so harsh, just INCREDIBLY frustrated with the over-complication of the simplest repair.
+Sarah Liners hey its cool! I'll admit it took me a couple of tries, but I have big hands and it unscrewed eventually. Glad you got it!
shit busted up my hand I just could not get the leverage to turn
The truth is the driver side is 10 times harder than passenger side because the angle.
Yeah, why always show the passenger side. What about the driver's side???!!!
The drivers side is much more difficult to fit your hand into. Wouldn't make for such an easy video.
You guys come on youtube to make easy videos. How about showing us how to REPLACE THE DRIVER SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS?
This is a nightmare to do - And he’s doing the easy side, the driver side is basically impossible without cutting up your hand - VW idiotic light placement
Totally agree with you. Funnily enough, the first time I did this, it wasn't too had, the second time though I damn near lost my hand
