The intro made me laugh😂 Thank you - ricochet always felt like a gamble for me but you helped me understand how it works - also, never noticed how the sound point affects speed!!
I love your videos, always great teaching! I use your MVP a lot for myself and my students. I found your site years ago and it has helped me understand missing elements of my technique. Thank you for all of this content and all the best for 2021! The way of the fist. Love Cobra Kai!
I'd have the same advice as far as finding the on-string cleanliness first... make sure the arm is exactly synced up with the string levels while you slur those ricochet groups!
Thank you so much, great video! Can you recommend an etude that focuses on ricochet alone? Also, can you consider making a video about ricochet with string crossing and tips on switching between normal detache and ricochet please?
Thank you for this video maestro Cole. I'd ask you about some other things that you may include in another video - how much bow hair is to be used in order to make the sound we want to achieve? should the bow have a specific tightness so it bounces in a better way? what differences are there between the strings since each string creates a different resistance to the bow hair, perhaps have a lighter touch and more speed on the E string, and a more aggressive touch and less speed on the G string? and because you talked about the fist grip, I wonder if the attack (down motion) comes from the elbow, the shoulder or the wrist? Thank you again!
3:48 Do it with the fist: YES, because why? Because the *bow* is doing it. Trust the stick. Speaking of which, what stick are you using? 6:04 "Unless you wanna get nerdier, let's face it, if you are here you probably do...." lol You lost me with the fox, the chicken, and the corn, but I totally "get" the variables when it comes to violin, hah, after all these years of messing with those. Question: Why do you start with describing things in terms of how some notes would be executed if played on the string? Does it have to do with pressure, "feel"? And finally, you don't discuss what part of the bow to use. (Possibly the 5th variable?) I've figured it out over the years - like you, experimenting - but it seems to me thatI have to get higher in the bow for the faster stuff. Best wishes, Nathan. Your world tour with Bach last spring, and the summer Violympics were major bright spots in my covid year. Thank you so very much.
On the string can better expose unevenness for right hand up and down bow sound. Also, the way the bow is held off the string is the same as on (the only thing changes is how the hand feels and changes for each different part of the bow).

Thanks Inna, glad this helped!

The way of the fist! 😍
clarity is too good
Excellent video! Love this!
No mercy! Lol Love your videos! Thanks. String crossings (Paganini 9) are difficult for me.

Excellent
Thank you Nathan! I love your content man!!

Lol the fox, chicken, and corn thing made me laugh. "Something about a farmer, and they have to cross a river." 😂 Also...hi I'm in MN too!
What about in Vivaldi winter where it needs to be kind of slow? Can you control the speed?
Time to practice ricochet for 40 hrs y'all. Ling Ling is watchin'
A video about ricochet without Paganini 5 original bowing is “slightly” disappointing 😂😅
Wait for an "advanced ricochet" video coming soon!
@@natesviolin is it up yet?
Which violin do you play? It sounds so free and full
The "Jack Benny" strad with passione strings
Came here after literally seeing season 3 finale 😂
Perfect, I love it!
