Hi, it's Nathan Cole from natesviolin.com. If you think that trills are just decoration or ornament, then I have exciting news for you! You're about to build a much stronger left-hand foundation on the violin through daily trill work.
For Part 2 of my trill series, click • Violin Trill Drill 2/3...
and for Part 3, click • Violin Trill Drill 3/3...
It only takes a few minutes a day to build this foundation, and in this video I lay out my daily routine. It's kind of like preparing a field for planting, and your hand feels great afterward.
Thanks for the excellent and methodical help, and patience in explaining it all so well, Nathan 🙏
Wonderful! The up,up,up almost immediately cured my trill problem. Still some work to do but thanks to you, I found the right impulse.
Thank you so much. Thinking about "UP, UP" really helps me immediately.
This is a fantastic left hand warm up! I don't think my left hand has ever felt this loose in such a short amount of time.
same here!
This is TRILLING stuff.
Your lessons are helping me to go past limitations that have been solidifying for several years!
Thank you for devoting the time to put your videos up. I would never have the opportunity to sit with a master player otherwise. What a pleasure!
Please make a video of how to play without a shoulder rest detailing the posture of the left hand, shoulder and head, showing photos of violinists who follow this style in different ways according to their anatomy and etc. Thank you!
Kiukojih Yes, this would be an amazing help. I am getting horrible pains no matter how much I switch my chinrest or shoulder rest. I’m thinking going without a shoulder rest could help.
You realy have to take care if you have a long neck and you play without it, you can hurts your spine.
@@elianmiguelgonzalez7134 the biggest step is learning that with proper left hand technique (MVP, Vibrato and Shifting technique) you don't really need to be holding the violin at all on the bottom side.
Hello Nate. Loving your videos and your podcasts. Would love a video about your morning warm up exercises that you mention from time to time. Vibrato, trills and ......? Life must be super busy for you, but if you did have time at some point it would be great. Thank you for all you put up and for your worksheets too.
Hello Mr Nathan! I hope you also tackle the other ornaments or embellishment to put in a music.. I dont know where to put, and will there be a overusing of ornaments too? Please use a pop music to demonstrate, thank you so much!!!
Thank you for putting in this work, Mr. Cole! Summer is a great time to focus on these topics and freshen up technique, I look forward to diving deep into these exercises.
That was a trilling video :)
Oh Hi Haha My name is Nathan Cole too
What a weird coincidence
Tough legacy you got in your hands, that guy is a master!
Thanks for the trills trilogy video, some great exercises and explanations! Also, loving the CBSO t-shirt; I'm currently studying at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the UK so it's nice to see the logo over in the States too!
Great to see you here Mark! 😊
Thank you for the videos. I know it takes time and effort on your part, and it is appreciated.
Thanks for the great video and the PDF! Definitely going to be trying out these exercises! :)
Wow nice to see you are back Nathan!
Absolutely great, Nathan. Thank you.
Yes please, talk about play without shoulder rest and the techniques useful to do it, thank you!
Came here to improve my Klezmer trills - stayed to improve my left hand setup!
Thank you so much!
Very helpful!
Super interesting video Nathan! Bravo can be applied to all instruments in many ways! Thanks!
the background looks like germany! :) Great video and exercises as always!!
Hi Nathan!
Is it possible to show a video on playing without a shoulder rest? I can play most pieces without it, but those with fast and rapid shifts really force me to use a shoulder rest.
thank you for sharing Nathan ¡
Hi Nathan! Are you using gut strings or just don't using microtuners anymore?
Hidden Lesson:
Good acoustics in a field!
Curtis should take notes!
Hey Nathan, I was wondering if you can make a video on the TMEA Orchestra Violin Etudes for 2018-2019? The titles of them are Rode 24 Caprices for the Violin 22 and Fiorillo 36 Etudes or Caprices for Violin 13. Please do, I would be greatful if you do. Wish Me luck in All state/Region😅😁
Is this worksheet really for free?!
I cant open anything til i would do an Abonnement of 200$per mounth.
Should one keep the lower fingers down when practicing the first exercise (the Piano-style trill) with 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th fingers etc? Thank you for your videos, they are so clear and informative :)
i want to know too
I have the same question, actually!
Hi, and great question (all of you)! I would always keep 1 down. As for 2 and 3, let them rest on the string if convenient, but if they start to compromise the freedom of the hand, then let them up. In general, any finger not in use should be at least close to the string, if not resting there.
I can trill just fine with my 2nd finger. how do i trill with 3rd and 4th?
thank you! amazing content and insgiths!
Thanks Alberto!
Nathan how tall are you? That violin looks so small on you. I look like a viola player in comparison.
Why am i watching this im a drummer
because drummers uses somewhat trill when blast beating :v
I watch other instrumentalist lessons too from high level people. Something about the process I think pervades through to every instrument.
Do you use Polynome? As a violinist I use this app, which many drummers use.
Thank you!
5:22 nice bow
thx!!
thank you :o)
I have slow fingers. I can only tap 4 times a second. Can I get faster?
Did you?
@@deadmanswife3625 No I wish I knew how.
@@legamature well speed is not everything. And you're way ahead of me. I am still trying to learn my basics in between living a rather full life. Thank you for your answer one of the things I'm trying to form the habit of is using a darn metronome. It's very important to use one but I just I don't know
@@deadmanswife3625 Metronome not necessary. You can become a great violinist without ever using one.
@@legamature 🤔❤
why the fuck is he in front of a field
hey nathan you have beeb very lost....
Greetings from colombia
Do you think the seven people who didn’t like this were living with Snow White?
lol I didn't get the hora staccato joke... :P
He never tested the bow on the staccato section
probably because it was difficult haha
