Wild to me that people would give this guy grief about how he did each test with each bar. Hes out there digging holes in his yard to help us make a more informed decision. I for one appreciate the time, money, and resources you put into making these videos. Ill be looking at the Piranha Bar.
Thanks
exactly!!
This is the exact type of tooth bar comparison that I’ve always wanted to see and I really like that you included the factory bucket in your tests! Without owning anything but the stock bucket, I always expected that the Heavy Hitch would be the clear winner based on other reviews I’ve seen, but all of your findings make perfect sense. Thank you for taking the time (and money) to make and share this video for all of us on UA-cam! Also, Happy Father’s Day, Brock!
Thanks
Happy Father’s Day
I have the HeavyHitch. The big reason I got it over the others was ease of installation and removal as in my size (48") it is a clamp on solution. It really goes on and off quick and easy. I primarily use it for braking up ground in the wooded areas around my home and large rock removal. It works well for those jobs. Moving loose stone like trap rock or smoothing a surface, I go with the plain bucket.
Thanks Brock for taking one for the team in that heat. I bought the Heavy Hitch for my 1025r’s 49” bucket and have never used it. Sitting brand new in the corner. Now after watching your video I’m never going to use it. Posting it for sale today. Thank you!
Yeah, not as big of cutting boost as I would’ve thought and kind of awkward getting used to the geometry of the teeth when pushing
Thanks for watching
It looks like we have a clear winner! I'm a bit surprised, but due to your diligence we now know the answer. Thanks for all of your hard work, and I hope you have a great Father's Day!
I was kind of surprised myself.
Thanks
Thanks for the time and effort to bring us this video Brock! Before watching this video I figured the Piranha bar would win. It is what I would choose! Anyone ever sharpened a shovel and felt the difference? It makes sense!
Exactly.
Brock,
Thanks for doing these tests, I know the time and effort that went into that was extensive. Not to mention all the diesel fuel used for this….. I was eyeballing the piranha tooth bar for a while now. I hadn’t even considered the other ones. This video pretty much affirms my suspicion of it being the right choice for me. Keep up the good work!
Thanks
I have the piranha. You can’t expect it to make a lot of difference. But it depends what you’re using it for, as shown in the video. It’s easier to skim off sod with it than without it. And if that were the only benefit, I’d say that doesn’t justify the cost. But…
I leave mine on most of the time. One thing it does that wasn’t mentioned is protect your factory edge. Helps prevent bending. Helps prevent wear. I’m very happy with it after managing my expectations. I did have to change my back-dragging technique with it on.
Dude! Your work with this comparison was more than worth it…as you mentioned between 22:00-22:30. Kiddos for going out of your way to bring us this information. You personally saved me a bunch of time and money making the RIGHT decision on a blade.
Thanks
I have a HH toothbar and I agree with your assessment from your testing. One thing that I appreciate about it over the stock edge (or other toothbar solutions on the market) is that the length of the teeth makes it like a set of mini-forks which are very useful for utilizing the bucket for picking up and moving large irregular-shaped objects like stumps. The HH toothbar plus bucket hooks plus chains = I can easily move pretty much anything that the loader can lift regardless of weird shapes or oversized dimensions that normally wouldn't actually fit in the bucket itself. I have "real" forks as well, but not having to swap out between the bucket and the fork frame etc for 99% of that kind of stuff is a major win for my weekend warrior projects.
You’re not the only one who has mentioned that advantage from them sticking out further.
Thanks for watching
Great video! I agree that The Piranha was the winner. The Heavy Hitch sucks at back dragging. If I was looking at doing a lot of finish work I wouldn't own one. However, I live in the NE Ozarks and the soil here is very rocky and full of roots and stumps. I'm always pulling rocks out of the ground that I can't move by hand. My stock bucket had all sorts of trouble breaking through it to dig. Those teeth and the weird geometry really made a difference. The distinct points that break up the smooth cutting edge allow me to dig into the rocks with narrow points of contact. The stock bucket made digging around here sort of like trying to break through concrete. I suspect that the other teeth might have the same problem the stock bucket had, though without doing a comparison like you've done I can't say for sure. The Heavy Hitch has also been far more effective at getting under stumps than the stock bucket, too. Maybe that's where the Heavy Hitch is best; really rough brute force and ignorance jobs. For any sort of other I think that my stock bucket did better. I do like that Heavy Hitch, though. For the rocky ground I live on it works very well.
Sounds right. I thought about taking it up on the hill where my property gets rocky but would be hard to compare apples to apples on digging out different size rocks and squeeze it into a video
I wouldn’t be surprised if it excels there
Thanks Brock. This the best and broadest comparison I’ve seen. I have the piranha bar and leave in on all the time on my Kioti CK3510. It offers a lot of bang for the buck. Thanks for all of your time and effort in your videos!
Thanks
I think you saved me a couple hundred bucks. I've been looking at the toothbars for a bit and have been going back and forth. I think you are spot on with the placebo effect. Some of the videos I watched they were showing before and after and to me they almost seemed the same. One review I saw of the piranha bar, it did seem to do better when cutting trails. Which for that application, does seem like a good fit with the sharpened edge. However, one thing you did not address was the wife factor. How are you going to explain that the device you just paid a significant amount for is nearly useless. 😀 Thank you again!
Sounds right
Thanks for watching
About the placebo effect, you have to remember that a toothbar is a tool and not a magical upgrade that makes a bucket better in all tasks. I bought a Piranha after trying to expand a ditch with a lot of small roots running through it. The stock edge often refused to cut through them. With the toothbar on, it cut through like they weren't there. But for unloading gravel or backdragging the stock bucket is going to be better. That's why easy removal is important.
Sounds right
Thanks for watching
I was changing out the tooth bar too much and just wound up buying a separate stock bucket. So now I have a stock bucket and a bucket with a tooth bar. So much easier.
Have a 72" Wicked on a light material bucket. Wanted to add strength and get through my solid clay that was just stalling the tractor before (Mx5200). It does great ripping brush as well. I have never compared anything other than factory, but a definite upgrade in my rocky clay. Good review
Seems like a fair review to me. I have a 1025R which is lighter and less powerful. I feel like a comparison video for the 1025 would find the stock bucket performing worse. That said I do have a bit of buyers remorse after buying the heavy hitch tooth bar. While it does perform much better for some of my bucket tasks, it still has the same drawbacks you mention. I wish this video had been made before I bought mine.
Thanks for sharing. My goal is not to bash any product but just to give perspective
I did kind of wonder if the result would be different on a smaller or larger tractor.
After getting my 1960 OC46 track loader back working( see Watch Wes Work videos) I found digging to be near impossible in sod, or hard packed dirt, even though the original cutting edge was in decent shape.
I did some internet searching and ended up buying a B Expanded Piranha tooth bar. It's worked great, and won't come off till I have to shovel snow from my driveway this winter.
I cleared an acre of mulberry and ash saplings, that were so thick you couldn't walk threw them. Some that had very large roots, were just cut off at ground level, while many of the younger saplings were pulled out, root and all.
Since then, I have leveled off a pad, removed some big rocks and old concrete, and pushed some dirt around for a neighbors camper site.
I can say, it was well worth the money and works GREAT.
Thank you for the video. I have a Pirahna bar, but we did not get it for the digging as much as we got it for how ridge it looked. I did not want to bend the stock buck in the middle, and I felt that that bar would be the best. Yes, we have dug with it, and it works great for that also. Keep up the great work, thanks again
Thanks for sharing
You did a great job with this review, thank you.
A big reason I bought the Heavy Hitch Toothbar several years ago, was to help pry out the multitude of rocks on my property. I know, bad for the loader. It does do better than the factory bucket. But the best tool for rocks is, a 6ft, hand-powered pry bar! The pry bar has tremendous leverage, and can dig out deeply burried slab rocks - that the tractor can't touch.
I do like the HH Toothbar better than stock bucket, for moving logs and brush. And, my bolt-on pallet forks fit right over the HH bar - very convenient. But, I constantly stuggle to keep the HH bar from loosening - and literally falling off. Now, my HH bar - sits in the barn unused...
Thanks for sharing
I too have the Piranha toothbar. I purchased mine for two reasons. The first was to protect the factor edge on my bucket. I didn't want to tear up/wear down my factor bucket and have to replace it. I figured a toothbar would help reduce the damage especially when digging and hitting those unforeseen rocks.
The second reason i purchased the Piranha was I wanted something that would cut into brush roots and also push through clay soil. The toothbar has accomplished both of those for me.
So for me, the Piranha has proven itself worth the money and matches the results of your test although I have only the original factory edge to compare it to.
I will say, my EA 55" Grapple has taken over must of the brush removal jobs and the bucket and toothbar is now basically for digging/dirt moving/rock work, which it does well with.
Thanks for another great video.
Yeah, I haven’t used one but I’ve never heard a negative word about those EA Grapples.
I’m digging the testing! It would be interesting to see how they do in brush clearing where they need to cut through roots and such.
Agreed
Thanks for watching
Wow Brock, I know how much time that must have taken! And I salute your willingness to open yourself up to the flak that will likely come from ardent fans of each blade. Great comparison. Also, love the final version of the thumbnail! 👍😎
Thanks
This is a great video Brock and should save tractor owners a lot of money and heartbreak. 👍 I've run a stock bucket for years and will probably continue to do that, but that the Bxpanded Piranha tool bar looked great in all your tests....especially for skimming grass. G
Definitely excels at peeling sod, but you can accomplish about anything you need to just a bucket. Especially if you have other tools for specific task, like a backhoe, stump bucket or grapple
Thanks for this video! My Piranha tooth bar came yesterday and I am excited to put it on today. Your video helped me to decide which one to buy! Again, thanks!
You have saved a lot of people a ton of money with these bar/ bucket comparison vids.. Me included, thanks a bunch guy! Be cool, freezerburn'
Man you go to big lengths to test and show the differences in products. Thanks. Takes a lot of time. You and Tractor Time with Tim is where it’s @. 💐👍
Thanks
Great video. This is no doubt the best as far as how they function in common scenarios that many compact tractor owners would use them for. I have a 3046R deluxe cab and use my bucket to, move compost around frequently, and as my compost is on a large concrete slab, a smooth bucket is actually preferable. However, I also use it to move dirt given to me by road crews back to a hole I’m filling in the back of our property, and when scooping dirt that is not on concrete, it seems like a tooth bar would help, though after watching your video, I’m not sure now, though te Pirhana seems like the winner.
3046 with a cab is a sweet machine.
Thinking about scraping off concrete you definitely would not want the heavy hitch or you would just need to be prepared to take it on and off
Thanks for watching
I have owned a Kubota B21 for 13 years and finally bought a Piranha tooth bar for it a few years ago. I can't believe the difference it made. I felt like I had a completely different more powerful tractor for loading work. The physics behind the design makes total sense why it was the best. It's all about sharpness and angle of attack. The Piranha has sharp edges throughout coupled with an angled approach of those edges appearing to be about 45 degrees. Imagine trying to cut a chunk of cheese with a knife by forcing the knife edge squarely through the cheese. It would require far more power to do this rather than pushing the knife through at a 45 degree angle. The other tooth bars tested have too much flat leading edges approaching the soil 90 degrees from the tractor's approach direction. The Wicked bar does have jagged edges, but they are very small and too close together such that they undermine their potential to deliver optimal cutting. I think the Piranha bar has the best balanced and simple design. I just purchased a Kubota L47 for larger work and ordered another Piranha of course.
Thanks for the comparison test. After 1 year with the paronia bar it's the best digging and brush cutter
Ever for my cx2510 koiti it makes my tractor a working machine!!
Really good comparison video. I purchased a Heavy Hitch a couple of years ago and completely I agree with you. It digs a little better than the factor edge but it doesn't backdrag well and as you say tends to dig in when you don't want it to. After taking it on and off a few times I decided it wasn't worth the hassle.
Thanks for sharing. Thought maybe it was just me
@@RockhillfarmYT Just order a Piranha for my 2038
Sweet
I have the Piranah tooth bar on my L2501 Kubota and I move a lot of gravel. Sometimes it’s hardened after a rain or frozen. The Piranah breaks it up easy. Also works really good for popping small saplings up by the root.
I have the Piranha bar for my Kubota B3350, and one of the main reasons i bought was just to strengthen the bucket so i don’t do something thing stupid and bend it up. I also put a medium sized piece of angle along the the top of the bucket to support my square hitch and chain hooks. No worries about bending the bucket now. I also love the performance of the tooth bar, it never fails to impress. Good job on the comparison
Thanks for sharing. I did the same thing on top of my bucket before adding the grapple on the top
Thanks for watching
Pretty decent test. One thing that I like about my Heavy Hitch Toothbar….over the others….that you didn’t test…would be stump or tree removal. It rips up roots extremely well. If you’re clearing brush or a bunch of saplings, it’s much better than a dedicated stump bucket. The factory edge doesn’t do very well in this application. I would like to see this type of test with the HHTB and the piranha.
Thanks for sharing
That’s why I got the heavy hitch one for and does great on roots. Everything else he showed was correct.
Forgot to mention that then, after you rip the roots, you can use HH tooth bar as a rake, dragging it backwards vertically.
I have the piranha bar and the heavy hitch bar. The piranha bar is awesome for pealing grass up to save. The heavy hitch is great for moving septic tank lids and concrete. It also adds a few inches to your bucket and it helps if you pick up logs.
which would you recommend for moving dirt and breaking ground
Thanks for the video! It was helpful for me. From what your testing shows, the biggest difference between them all is price. Marginal pluses and minuses. For myself, clearing small trees and brush, digging in hard, compacted soil, protecting my bucket, and price I would go with the Bxpanded. 👍🏼
Thanks for watching
To me, the piranha toothbar is the best digging toothbar. The piranha toothbar will keep your bucket lip from bowing therefore, your bucket won't look as if it's attempting to smile when actually it shoud appear to be "mean and lean"🥴. I used my stock bucket for years without any toothbar then noticed my bucket strarting to get a slight bow. After 5 years of bare bucket use, I purchased the piranha toothbar and it's all hisorty from there. I like your comparison. Tractor owners/operators will make their decision after they do some heavy bucket work in rocky dirt and their bare, raw-faced bucket starts to smile b/c it's bowed-up. I considered the "Heavy Hitch" toothbar when I watched TTWT demonstrate use several years ago. Great video; your video is a great demo and well worthwhile, Rockhillfarm. Only b/c I now own the BXpanded toothbar and have used it for numerous dirt, rock, and root projects do I lean towards the BXpanded Piranha toothbar. Thank you for this video. Sorry, you're catching grief from skeptics but I think you did an excellent job showing comparisons. 👍🏽🤠 9/12/23
Thanks for posting this comparison. I've been wondering about getting a tooth bar. But now think I should just keep the stock bucket on my 1023.
I think the tooth bar can help but it’s not as dramatic as you might think
Great comparison video. I've watched a bunch of TTWT lately and he promotes the heavy hitch, glad to see it's not the "end all be all" I'm going piranha! Plus it has a fun name.
Thanks
Thank you for making this video! I am going to attempt to do some grading with my stock bucket, but if I decide I need a tooth bar, I will definitely be buying the prana bar after watching this video. Again, thank you so much!
Thanks. I still use the piranha bar on my bucket
Awesome review, your review just saved me some money, and that’s what I wish all reviews would do. But some reviews get to the end and say they all work ok, it’s like they are worried about making some supplier mad!
I completely agree. I have done the regular tooth bar similar to heavy hitch and Piranha bar. Heavy hitch has its application. Piranha digs and does everything well. It excels with dirt work. Nice job Brock. Maybe your best vid. Thanks.
Thanks
First, thank you for all of the work you did. I just purchased a new tractor and was looking at these bars. Your test is excellent. When I just take visual input as data, I also came up with your first and second picks. When I add your comments and real world “feel”, It validated the 1 and 2 ratings……so I was quite pleased that when you gave us your ratings, I had 1 and 2 correct. After the first test, I really wasn’t impressed with numbers 3 and 4.
So the question becomes (for my use) do I pay the extra for the Piranha? I think your statement of “protecting the edge” of the original bucket is a strong point to consider.
I wonder if you feel the bar adds any structural strength to the front edge of the loader?
Again, thanks for running this test. You did a great job and it is very very helpful.
I like it. I don’t have 4 wheel drive so I appreciated that you forgot and I got to see how the 2 wheel drive digging works.
Great video and I really appreciate your time and efforts in making this video. I was previously convinced that the Wicked Edge was the way to go and very close to purchasing one from Everything Attachments. I watched other videos and EA Wicked Edge performed well and I was convinced that was the way to go. Your video was a great unbiased comparison and I learned how each tooth bar performed compared to the others. Thank you again and I look forward to watching your other videos.
Thanks for watching
Nice video Brock. I’ve had a piranha in the past and was happy with it. Was wondering is there something “much” better out there. You saved me time and money today. Good video keep it up.
Thanks for watching
I am very impressed by your video and test methodology. Your experiments, data, and categories of comparison would make it a Research paper (one of the better ones) in a peer review journal for this stuff! Thank you. Thank you. I am a new owner of a JD 1025R and was about to help a neighbor clear some over grown brush. I could not have asked for a better review. I will look at your other videos. Congratulations on this work.
Thanks
I thought you did a great job on the pros and cons of each tooth bar. I looked long and hard for a video like this back 2016 and never really found one. So thank you for doing this video.
I bought the piranha tooth bar in 2016 for a JD 1025r and have had zero complaints. I would buy another one when the time comes to buy another tractor.
It’s a great product
Thanks for watching
I researched thoroughly before buying my Piranha and have been very happy with it. Nice comparison.
Thanks
I have been happy with it
I feel like on these compact tractors, the loader limitations as far as curlback/breakout force really narrow the gap in these products. All of them cut in soil decently well, but when you went to pull the load up, that’s when you needed to back up and reapproach.
Really appreciate your work this comparison. Definitely helped me decide on the piranha for my property. Objective as anyone could be and answered most of my questions - someone pay the man! You may be dirt bias though ;) Depending on the time of year mine's snot and rock or cement and rock. Stay blessed and thanks again!
Like your video, I have the heavy hitch for my 2028R, got a good deal on it, the tooth bars are all in the way you're going to used it ,the heavy hitch is good when digging out roots or brush, keep the great videos.
I have a Piranha and am using it on a 3038e JD to remove topsoil for a driveway. I had tried the bucket and it worked, but poorly. The Piranha handles the soil and roots quite well and I am pleased with it. I've also tried it on brush and it does a pretty good job there too. But the winner for brush removal, in my view, is the Ratchet Rake. I've had one for years and it is fantastic for pushing multiflora and other brush out of the ground and stacking it. The Ratchet Rake is also great for light grading of my mile-long existing gravel driveway. It's not a typical toothbar, but it does protect the bucket edge and stayed on my bucket - except for snow removal - until I got the Piranha. If you haven't taken a look at the Ratchet Rake, you may wish to check it out.
I wrote up my comment before watching the whole video and somehow the UA-cam app lost them...
Basically we had a huge pile of topsoil in our back field that had been there for more than 20 years and was covered in tough, tall grasses.
When we bought our 1025R, one of the things we wanted to do was use those ~500 cubic yards of topsoil - but I found I simply couldn't get the stock bucket to cut through the tall grasses. My best, time consuming, option was to use the backhoe to break it up and then turn around and use the bucket.
After lots of research I bought the BXPanded Piranha Toothbar and Wow! What a difference.
With the Piranha I was able to slice right through the grasses and roots and gain access to the topsoil.
I did months later try testing digging with the Piranha removed and confirmed again that it couldn't dig.
Since then I've also dug and moved many 100's of tons of rock and gravel, smashed and pryed the Piranha into lots of big rocks, etc and it has held up very well. It isn't quite as sharp, but close enough to still work great.
The only task I find it doesn't work great for is backdragging snow on the paved section of our driveway.
For backdragging dirt and rocks, it works great, but with snow you want to clean right down to the pavement.
If you tilt the bucket down, the teeth leave stripes of snow behind. If you tilt it more level, it leaves packed snow behind.
For everything to do with dirt, rocks, topsoil, gravel (including backdragging dirt, rocks, topsoil, gravel), and cutting through roots, tall grasses, etc, it does a fantastic job and I would highly recommend it for anyone with a subcompact or compact tractor.
Thanx for making this video. Great work. You saved me a lot of money and frustration. I had the Heavy Hitch tooth bar on my wish list. I saw the Piranha and wondered if it would be just as good at the lower price. Thanks to you I don't have to find out the expensive way.
This video is a couple of years old and I’m still using the piranha. Definitely happy with it.
Great video. I have the heavy hitch and agree with what you said about it. I really got mine for digging trees and getting those roots. It did work better than the stock bucket. The taking off and on is a pain and not something I care to do. I also have problems of the screws backing off.
Great video.
Thanks for sharing your experience with it
@@RockhillfarmYT this how we grow. Your video took much time and effort, thanks for doing it.
Hey Rock (don't know your name yet!). I know this is an older video for you, but thank you very much. I'm having 300-400 yards of rock and loam delivered to reshape my front yard and running stock. Came into figure out IF and which tooth bar would best to get...thank you for confirming: the stock bucket ain't bad! I may go with you and get piranha, but the project won't wait 2 weeks for their build and delivery times.
A little late on commenting but having used the stock bucket and the Piranha tooth bar for about a year and a half not it is a game changer for some of what I do. Digging it beats my factory edge bucket like going from butter knife to a great steak knife for cutting a tough steak. I have cleared quite a bit of brush with the tractor and bucket with the Piranha bar, the teeth grip saplings very well allowing you to push it over then grab the root ball and push it out of the way. 3 to 4 inch diameter privet hedges in the swamp and very easy to remove, one that was about 13 inches at the base took a little more work but got moved from what is now a food plot for deer.
Awesome video! I’ve been wondering whether I even want a toothbar. Some friends were all “it cuts through anything like crazy!” and I figured a lot of that had to be the placebo effect you mentioned. I may get the BXpanded just to protect my stock bucket edge, but definitely not in a rush to spend money on it
They can help but also still limited to your tractors ability to push throughout
Brock, This is the best Tooth Bar video i have seen to date. I bought a piranha Edge and love it. I did a lot of research before buying and came to the same conclusions you did. Thanks for another Great Learning Video>
Thanks
Nice job on the comparison! With those tasks my heavy hitch tooth bar should get beat. I learned over the months what it’s good for and what it’s not. I learned it’s a specialized tool, when you’re dealing with vines and roots or want extra horizontal capacity for brush or rounds it’s great. When I’m doing any kind of level work or anything like that I stick with the stock edge. I go months at a time without putting it on.
Thank you for sharing the info on how you use it
Either tooth bar is better than stock flat edge,I would have to choose between the piranha and heavy hitch, good job!
Thanks for a nice comparison. Happy Father’s Day!
Happy Father’s Day
I have a Piranha tooth bar on my Kubota L4701, it’s now a Kubota Monster lol, seriously, I’m happy with what the bar does. Perhaps you can do the same work with more effort without a bar , but extra work equates to wear, time and fuel consumption. I am satisfied with the Piranha and it’s quite easily removed and reattached. With only 2 large bolts. Your Vlog was excellent as I learned some things Tractor guys wanna know and it’s great when I can feel good about a purchase because we all have at some point regretted a choice. Again great Vlog.
Nice comparison Brock! I've got a Skid Steer bucket on my tractor, a Deere C66 and I'm planning to order the serrated edge for that. It looks pretty similar to the BXpanded toothbar, so I'm pretty hopeful. I haven't done much (intentional) digging so far, I've accidentally cut right through the sod in a few places, so maybe the heavier bucket makes a difference.
My skid steer has a flat edge like that on the bucket. Not quite as sharp as the bxpanded but same idea
Great Video Brock, as a heavy hitch customer I have to agree with you as well BX is the clear winner. I don't dig that much as you do but if I did Id sell mine too and get the BX Expanded.
I thought heavy hitch was going to be the winner but in the testing I did that wasn’t what I saw.
Thanks for watching
I really appreciate the information! I was wondering if I needed one. No chance of me trying those options and you have done the work for me. Subscribed.
Thanks
Thank you for this.
I expect to have my first tractor in 2 or 3 weeks. One of my tasks is to salvage the stone off a short gravel driveway, rip out any residual sod, put down that fabric stuff and then respread the gravel (and also an extra couple yards). What are your top three choices of implements be for stripping the existing gravel off?
I wanted an edge protector so got a piranha, which is probably an expensive edge protector. I agree it's no better that a straight bucket for digging in dirt.
Where it does help is 1) ripping through sod, 2) digging through the rock/sand/clay pile left over from ram-hoe dug pond. Basically jam the edge in and "wiggle" it to work it through.
I think your tractor is lacking power for the tooth bar. It struggled with it more and this is because it extends the edge/geometry as you stated. For best "smoothing' results, you need to backdrag using rear of bucket, not front cutting lip (you can do this to backdrag + cut if that's what's required). All that said, I've use both tooth bar and bolt on cutting edge. My preference is a bolt on sharp cutting edge. When it wears, it cuts worse, but you can replace it or sharpen it. It helps cut back dragging or digging in. Either way, the weight of the tractor is what's the most important. Also I don't think a the front bucket is designed for digging...it is for moving material. Digging is best done by an excavator or backhoe. With that in mind, it's more important to consider what wins getting material from a pile and then dropping and smoothing it at the destination, which again IMO, a flat bolt on edge. Another thing I don't like about tooth bars (aside from inability to cut + backdrag), is when you use your bucket for other things, it's in the way...you can bump into it when loading firewood for example. Long story short, what you want is a sharp bolt on replaceable/serviceable edge.
Either way, this is a good video for someone to watch when considering this topic.
Thanks
I was looking for the cheapest tooth bar but I needed 53 inch. I wanted to rake up pine straw and dig through roots. I could have bought a 60" and cut it down but I could save $50 by buying the parts from Amazon ($230 total) and welding them myself. Works great, my JD 1023E is not that powerful so no danger of ripping it off.
Would have love to seen a comparison pushing brush back on a tree line. That's what I bought my Wicked tooth bar for. Works well for that .
Great job as usual! Your content is very educational . Keep up the good work Brock!
Thanks for the encouragement
This was a great shootout, thanks much! The only test missing was ripping out brush, although more than likely Wicked would be best at that coz of the jagged but dull teeth...so it could grab it and yank it out. In that regard, it would function more like how the Ratchet Rake does (that thing works awesome for that purpose). Yeh, this a great test, and actually I just ordered the piranha bar for clearing out a spot for a new shed.
Great comparison! I just happened to find the BXpanded piranha bar and looked like a better setup than HH's and its also considerably cheaper $$
Which of the bars would you guess be the best for removing small, standing brush and or bushes? Thanks for the great video.
The tested are not exact but you definitely get the point. The video is excellent. It helped me 👍
I own and use a 2018 2025R... Main reason I picked it up used for about $4000 under market, I t had a couple of issues from prior owner abuses. Easily repairable, but a deal breaker for most folks, long story short prior owner appeared to have attempted a few You Tube 'modifications' they did not apparently have the understanding and skills to do! Anyhow, on to the buckets... I own 2, the original 54" stock bucket and the complete wicked tooth bucket. I have fabricated some attachments for the original bucket for handling logs & brush which is the majority of work I do with it, The wicked tooth bucket is used for ground clearing of heavy brush, small trees, and bushes. An associate/friend has the BX tooth bar on his Kabota of similar spec to the 2025R, the BX bar is OK for the brush clearing, but seems to 'slip over the top' and taking more passes to clear the same densities of heavy overgrowth and brush as does the wicked tooth does in one pass, which was my primary reason for choosing the Wicked tooth in the first place, what I researched on it seemed to point it out as the better brush buster.
As for digging, I do some light surface de-sodding surface prep here and there plus the finish grading of de-brushed areas which are then usually disc out with a serrated disc, disk harrow. Again possibly due to some root structure and such still present the wicked tooth seems to do a little better job of prep, but marginally at best. As for picking up moving loose stone of all sizes and shapes from 2-0 all the way down to 52 the stock bucket does a better job for me hands down... Packed gravel/rock though = wicked tooth! Doing all but the log and felling brush removal is a fairly rare gig for me, If I did the other stuff more often I'd likely have gone with a skid steer, But I needed something light with a lower footprint profile left behind. I'm officially retired now and do not go out seeking a mass of jobs... Usually I get a call from someone who has heard from a friend.
At any rate nice job of running the compassions, always nice to see some willing to put in the time and efforts to help others make the right choices for their particular needs!!
I know how much time these videos take, so thank you for putting in the time to help all us noobies out. I'm deciding on my first tractor, so the toothbar is of interest.
Good luck with the tractor purchase
Thanks for watching
💥 That was the result I would have predicted. The EA toothbar has too many serrations to be effective and like you said you don't cut a steak by stabbing it with a fork. Another toothbar available only to the Kubota BX series is the Ai2 toothbar and it's the only one I know of that is reversible. Its cutting pattern is very similar to the BXpanded and it works excellent for me. Great video!
*Keep on tractoring!* 😁👍

Just goes to show you don’t always get what you pay for. Great test and I know it took a lot of time and effort to complete!
Thank you for a very thorough review. It confirmed my choice with the BX.
Awesome video. I will eventually get a tooth bar and your video is exactly what I needed to help my decision. Surprisingly, my stock bucket cutting edge is doing a pretty good job at digging.
Thanks
No fair! The paint on the buckets is different so that invalidates the test! Seriously though, Thank you for doing this comparison. I for one appreciate the information.
Absolutely a great video. Outstanding presentation. And Happy Father's Day to you and all fathers that may read this comment.
Thanks
I pretty much took the day off today. Hope you had a great weekend
I feel like this was a fair comparison. If I do get a tooth bar, it will only be to extend the life of the factory bucket on my Tym T454
Thanks for watching
Have you been happy with that TYM.
@@RockhillfarmYT Very much so! Have had zero problems with it and recently bought a BY85 backhoe which is a beast. Couldn't ask for more (well maybe, except for lots more money lol)
Glad I found you! Another UA-camr agreed with your finding and that led me to investigate further. I didn’t know about BxExpanded until recently, I will be placing an order with them next week when I get my new Yanmar SA424. Thank you for all you did!
Thanks for watching
I bought a piranha bar for my JD 1025R a few years ago. Put 300 hours on it. It's not as sharp as it came but it hits a point where it doesn't get any more dull. It takes a scoop like a champ still and I've put it through some abuse pulling boulders uo from my property. I'm glad i got it over the rest.
Thank you for all the effort you put into this comparison video. Very good information, honest assessment and interesting to watch.
Thanks for watching
Great comparison. I too was surprised by the heay hitch not digging any better. To be fair on the EA blade. I am thinking that both the bucket and blade might be miss matches on a 2R and would perform better on a 3 series and above as well as other brand equivalents to the 3 series.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it
I agree with you on the one that was the best the heavy hitch would work good cleaning up brush and broken concrete moving if u don't have a grapple
I asked BXpanded if their Pirahna bar would hold up to a 75 hp 11,000 pound tracked skid steer. They said they could build me one that would, so I bought one for my JCB 250T loader. It is amazing. I can get it against a 4 inch tree at the base and just push and cut it off. The sharp edge will cut right through green wood. It digs extremely well. I've tried it out pretty good, and it has never flexed or bent. I can put it up at a medium height and push and lift on a larger tree and push it over, then back up and get the bar under the root ball and push the whole tree out. I'm very impressed with the Pirahna bar.
That is awesome. I have a skid loader the same size
Interesting. My piranha was wussy and didn’t last long. Was going to use EA this time but will try asking them for a heavy duty one first.
Great vid... wish they made short sections of the Pirhana bar, as to attach on my AV20 grapple.
That would be cool. Thanks for watching
Thanks for this video. I bought two Piranha bars. Keep up the good work.
I bought an Everything Attachments Wicked bar that i haven't gotten to try yet. I felt like the heavy hitch style sticks too far out and saps too much leverage from the machine. I bought the Wicked for the sharp serrations ripping through roots and tearing out thorn bushes and brush.
Great video comparison. I have been on the fence between buying the piranha bar or keeping using the stock bucket. After watching this I may just stick with the stock bucket. My only concern is wearing out the edge as I backdrag a lot of stone on my driveway to keep it in good shape. But stock buckets are not that expensive so it may not be that big of a deal. Idk. Thanks again for the great comparison.
Thanks for watching
Great video, and thanks for doing these tests. I still think I may get one for mine however as the soil up here in NH is very rocky and gravely, so a tooth bar may give it that break up where the stock cutting edge cannot get full contact to cut down.
Thanks for watching
Thanks for doing this test, not perfect, but you came up with the same choice as I did the BXanded. A few things you needed to say is when the Expanded is on it also "expands" the bucket size...so you are able to put a lot more dirt, stone etc in each trip & it actually helps keep the material in the bucket while moving. You gave the last 3 buckets in the first test 1 minute more than the BXpanded, if you had dug another 1 min that hole would have been at least another 6" deeper beatng them all by a wide margin. You should have also mentioned that BXpanded has a straight blade that uses the same 2 side holes so one could, within minutes, change out the 2 blades. I've been using my factory edge to clear my tar paved driveway for 5 yrs with an add on plastic edge, I'm tired of the fact the snow doesn't all fall out due to the large screws that hold the edge to the bucket, so I'm going to be buying the Expanded straight bar soon for snow.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Can you put pallet clamp over your piranha? Curious. Ty
@@KP-vf5cg I never tried it as I have a set of real forks which I recommend that you get over the clamp on type. Folks that have the clamp on type have said they mess up the bucket too much & that the weight of the bucket it self & how far away from the pin the forks are adds to how much less you can lift...
If I planed do dig a hole get a dozer. But I do appreciate you showing different buckets. Like the Parona
Thank you for doing this! This is exactly the information I am looking for.
Question: I live in Missouri and have several acres of brush-honeysuckle I need to remove. Do you think the Pirahanna bar would work well for removing this stuff?
I've already had some success with the factory bucket, but for some of the larger bushes I had to use my forks to dig/pop it out of the ground.
I feel like a tooth bar might give me just a little more leverage and help rip these invasive plants out
I do think it would help. I have done a little bit of that and the edge is sharp
I grew up in Missouri, and we are on the Missouri Kansas line
try looking at the tractor rake. I live in missouri also and it works great.
I live in KY and have a lot of bush honeysuckle I've removed using my EA grapple. It's worked great at popping out the entire root ball, which is key. I know it's a lot more than a tooth bar, but a grapple is a great attachment!
Thanks for sharing your experience
I’ve got a couple of different Grapples. I run an add a grapple with the tooth bar
@@MattN03 how did you go about getting them out with your grapple? I have the Pirrhana tooth bar installed (haven’t used it yet). Just got my grapple as well. Trying to figure out which one to use first
If it was mentioned I missed it but the stock buckets that come with John Deere tractors are very week. Our stock bucket bent across the top just from hauling the trash can to the road. That's one thing I wish I knew to upgrade during this purchase. I'm not sure but I think the John Deere heavy duty bucket has a replaceable cutting edge. To upgrade wasn't much more money but I thought it wasn't necessary. My salesman offered it.
Great video Brock. Really appreciate your videos. 🚜🇺🇲🦌😎
Thanks for sharing your experience. Right after I got my bucket I bolted a plate across the top of it with hooks on it and I haven’t had any problem
@@RockhillfarmYT good idea. I'll have to find something to fit it. 🙂🚜🇺🇲🦌
I don’t own a tractor and have no need for a toothbar, but this was interesting to watch.
Thanks For following along
