      I actually made my own for about 50$ worth of material not counting the 15 cutting discs used. I used a 1/2 plate the length of my bucket by 6 inches wide. I liked it so much that I made myself one for the backhoe. On my 16 inch digging bucket, I added again, a 1/2 plate that is 24 inches, and 6 inches wide with a bevel. Very useful to grade a ditch or smooth it out. On that 24 inch plate, I made a bolt on mini seesaw tooth patterned rake. Very useful again for anything.

      I too bought the BXpanded toothbar right away after getting my 1025R going on 6 years now. It was a gamechanger for the bucket. I have removed rows of old bushes around our porch like a cheese cutter, literally in minutes. Awesome accessory well worth the price! Thanks for sharing!

      12jeeplover No problem. I see a lot of other companies out there claiming the Piranha is made of an inferior steel because they don’t say what they use. I felt it was important to set the record straight that whatever steel they are using is 100% adequate for the job.

    I have a Piranha tooth bar on my B2601. I have to admit I am surprised by it. I can dig in dry clay-ish soil and get a 1/2 bucket full with little effort. They did a nice job with this tooth bar. Easy on, Easy off if needed. I also like taking small garbage trees out along the edge of my forest with it.

  • @turdferguson5300

    SOLD ! I bought a B2601 w/ loader and a Land Pride grapple bucket four days ago to work in the wooded areas of the farm. I have a Ratchet Rake on a M6800 but the tractor doesn't fit in the woods. The Ratchet Rake does a good job clearing brush around the edges of the fields but it isn't designed for digging. The Piranha seems more versatile and yours is holding up well. This should be perfect for a B2601. Thanks

    This was a great evaluation of the toothbar. I looked at a video from 5 years ago, and didn't like a thing about the piranha - it just looked sloppy. It does look like they have improved it quite a bit over 5 years.

    I have used piranha teeth on 2680 for almost two years. The Mindful Homestead I agree with you 100%.

    I have a L4600 and Ive had my Piranha for ~5 years, love it. It digs better than a smooth bucket (obviously) especially since my land is mostly packed sand and gravel; and it completely obliterates brush and scrub which is mostly what I got it for. Havent even looked to see how sharp it is lately, may have to check next time I use it.
    My only complaint is that if you want to use clamp-on bucket accessories, like hitch receiver or pallet forks, you have to remove the Piranha.
    If you have a Kubota BX series, while you're chatting with BXpanded (with the plastic radiator fan in the middle) you should grab one of their "under armor" steel plates to prevent sticks from poking up into the fan and breaking it.

    • @o2boutdoors
      @o2boutdoors 2 роки тому

      "...it completely obliterates brush and scrub which is mostly what I got it for." Good to hear this, as it's why I am considering one. Figure I'll just remove it for the projects where I want to back drag, something I do from time to time.

    I have this tooth bar on order. Can hardly wait to put it to use on my 1960 Oliver OC46. I have a couple acres of ground that had been in CRP for 22 years and I had to mow it every year to keep the hundreds of Mulberry trees in check. I'm hoping this tooth bar will help me clean that ground up, since it hasn't been mowed off it 2.5 years.

    Just ordered one. I got frustrated clearing out a grove of Chinese Sumac (Tree of Heaven) down my road. My big issue was that I couldn't "grab" anything with the normal bucket, seemed weak. I'd get out and dig stuff up with my Pulaski axe, then hop back in the seat and go. Only to get bogged down by like a 2" root. Hoping this thing helps with that.

    Very good review. I have an L2501 that you may consider for an upgrade from your current tractor. I will be purchasing a Piranha tooth bar for my bucket in the near future. I live in Kentucky with a lot of clay and rock and am sure the tooth bar will help me a great deal. I am in the process of waiting on a grapple and just had a 3rd function valve put on the tractor so you can see why I am still waiting on purchasing the tooth bar. The high ticket items were higher on the list. I also have an land plane, wood chipper, rotary cutter, and forks for the tractor. I do see in the height of the garage door why you may have went with a BX and perhaps the mower option as well. I have a barn at the farm and a little larger tractor was not a problem with 14 foot doors. Again nice video you do a good job on them.

      @The Mindful Homestead what are the glaring issues? I'm trying to compare the 2 but most reviews say one is junk while the other is amazing.

    • @TheMindfulHomestead
      @TheMindfulHomestead  2 роки тому +1

      @@jondevos7535 If you look carefully at the way the front of the bar is cut, you'll see the Piranha is angled to a bevel the entire way across the bar, including in the inside corners of the teeth. If you look at the Wicked, they put a jagged "step" design in there, which looks cool, but means you are going to be pushing an unsharpened edge into dirt. Think of it like a serrated knife where only the tips of the points are sharp and you can't saw. If something were to land in the notch between teeth, it's a flat edge you're trying to push cut with. Not an issue with a huge, powerful tractor, but on a small unit where every bit of advantage helps, the Piranha is a better design.
      They might use a fancy, branded steel, but that means nothing with a sub par design.

      @DRT Hunt Club I feel like it's sort of a personal opinion/use thing. If that small flat edge stops you from digging in I'd think you need a bigger tractor for what you're doing. Both look like good options to me.

    Looking at buying this tractor for my application and you answered many of my questions. One of the main reason I do not like a back hoe attach is because it makes the tractor much more cumbersome when trying to get around anything that is not a perfect level surface and much easier to get the tractor stuck. My experience with using a loader to dig and haul is that it can make the tractor very unstable with a full load if you do not have some counter weight ie a implement on the back. Does this tractor get tipsy when the bucket is full without anything on the back say like a box scraper?

    • @TheMindfulHomestead
      @TheMindfulHomestead  4 роки тому +1

    Greetings from the NH seacoast. Excellent review made especially credible since you’ve worked with the product for over a year. I’ve been thinking about some sort of tooth bar for some time. I live on a hilly property and need to cut down the crest of a trail I cautiously navigate most every day. While I’m sure renting a Bobcat or small dozer would be faster the cost of a one day rental would be substantially more than an investment in this product. I’ll just take it slow and see what happens. If it doesn’t work out I can always rent a different machine but there will be plenty of other chores I can do with the Piranha. BTW, if you have any suggestions for managing trails with the BX I’d be interested to hear. Many thanks and I’m going to subscribe to your channel!

    • @TheMindfulHomestead
      @TheMindfulHomestead  4 роки тому

      Thanks Bern! Love having local viewers. You should be fine with the Piranha provided you don’t get into any super gnarly roots. The main limitation is going to be the tractor size and power itself. Worst case is like you said, you need to rent a machine, and you have the toothbar anyway. Just go slow and I bet you’ll be fine! Good luck!

      If you look carefully, you can see the “arms” of the Piranha have slotted holes for the mounting bolts. Any wear on the original edge is fine as the Piranha will simply slide a little further back on the worn edge, and is still able to be secured. It’s a pretty ingenious feature. It’s not too heavy. Maybe 40lbs?

    Do you put the bolt threads and nut on the inside of the bucket or on the outside?

      you are standing on flat,desolate earth - with only horizon visible in every direction. You put up a 20' long / 8' high wall with a double hung window in the center. Now open the window. Are you looking in or out the window?

      @@wiggybends3632 I see what you’re saying. Some say a bucket only has two sides: an inside and an outside.
      My question was really: which side of the box to you expect to bang up the most that will do most damage to bolt threads that pass through nut?
      For my usage, the inside would.

    I have a bx23s. What I'm worried about is when I go back to the factory leading edge I will be stuck with two holes on the side. Where lets say you would get spillage from fine materials? Thanks Mate

      You could always just toss a plug in there, or put the bolts and washers back in when you don’t have the edge on. Truthfully, I haven’t taken it off in 3 years now. You can backdrag just fine with it.

      Just buy a set of forks on a frame. You will be using them much more than you realize and they work better than the clamp ons.
