The level crossing located on the very busy A605 to the west of Whittlesey near Peterborough, operated from the small on-site signal box which also monitors and operates nearby Funthams Lane Level Crossing via CCTV. All four barriers here are rather long, rather rusty, and each has a supporter arm.
A construction scheme to build a bypass to the east of this level crossing commenced in the Summer of 2020, and this will permanently close and remove the need the level crossing - a scheme mainly driven by the long and frequent closures at this level crossing causing very long tail-backs of traffic and delays on a regular basis around this area on the A605. This bypass was completed and officially opened on the 11th of July 2022, SIX months earlier than planned. In 2010, a stolen vehicle ploughed through and completely destroyed the lowered barriers here whilst on the run from police, which completely took out the four previous barriers at this level crossing.
All footage in this video dates back to June 2020, just before the bypass bridge's construction began.

@@SouthEastLevelCrossings Do you know if there is going to be a new crossing built or if the lines through it are going to be closed if it is closing?

@@inkysquid4 I'm pretty sure it'll be gone for good as it won't be needed any more with the new bypass becoming the A605. The crossing plant will most likely be taken up, but the line will remain fully operational.

It is a shame about it going, as well as the fact of how busy it is putting you off, that's a shame too. I always love visiting the Ely-Peterborough whenever I get the opportunity!
