- A very entertaining morning spent at Peterborough on the East Coast Mainline where we see services from LNER, Thameslink, Hull Trains, Cross Country, East Midlands Railway, Greater Anglia and freight from Freightliner and GBRF.
This wasn't the original station to be found at Peterborough. In 1845 Peterborough East was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway with their line running from Ely to Peterborough and the line running from Peterborough to Northampton which now forms part of the Nene Valleyn Railway heritage line. The line from Northampton to Peterborough was built by the London and Birmingham Railway. In 1846 there was another line built going from Syston to Peterborough. In 1862 the Eastern Counties Railway became a part of the Great Eastern Railway.
Two years later the Great Northern Railway arrived on the scene when the opened up their portion of the line going from Peterborough, Spalding, Boston and Lincoln, when the line was being constructed their trains from London were using the ECR station at Peterborough East but was decided fairly on that they would need their own station. This was officially opened in 1850, two years before Kings Cross was named as the official terminus of the East Coast Mainline.
Peterborough East was closed in 1966 and Peterborough North was renamed for a second time to Peterborough which is now the current station.
The station went through several stages of modernisation where the line was electrified to having more platforms built to deal with the ever increasing demand in traffic aswell as having holding lines for freight passing through the station.
My next station will be Ely on the Fen Line.
Joining me today was Barrowhomedia, Badger7b4 and Urlocaltrainspotter1.

Great trains at Peterborough. One of my favourites on the ECML for filming!
Another superb video mate 100% agree about the EMR Liverpool-Norwich service don’t know how they get away with a 2 car at peak times it’s a joke the GA 745/755’s are excellent trains
tornado922 lovely see your show thanks
6:07 I have, the air conditioning its on top, and the voice announcement lady sounds so chill and futuristic, and its so smooth without bumps, with perfect sized windows and foot room

LOVED the conversation about the rail garden center. You sure do have a EXCELLENT sense of humor!!! In case you weren't aware, the MSC liveried 66 was one of the cargo ships that lost all power and smashed a bridge in Baltimore, Maryland USA that killed at least six construction workers and many more for it was around 1 am and many people were drowned.
Great video as always the 755 are in my mind a great interior as my last visit there a couple of years ago I went on one to ely and it was a lovely ride and I've already planned 6 night in Peterborough next may
A great video from Peterborough, and am already looking forward to the Ely video
Ive been from Manchester to Norwich on East Midlands trains the 158s are ok but were crammed like sardines for 6 hour's
Peterborough my fav
Speaking out of Germany, the railways here are not in a much better shape in regards to all the weeds growing, at least in most places. I really hope they will invest a little bit more to keep the railway clean in the future, like they have already managed to do in Switzerland or Austria.
You're right, the railways are so untidy!
Especially compared to continental Europe.
You captured me on the Harrogate service which was delayed by over 30mins when I got to Leeds unfortunately missed the Bentham line train so will have to do it another time but thanks for the capture sir
Excellent video. Nice one. Hope you're having a good weekend. 😀
Great film at Peterborough
Sometimes GN does use the Thameslink 700s on their services. I don't know many but that is what I know. Great Videos as always.
I love Peterborough, lots of variety., not many places in the UK have high speed, commuter and freight in one place!
Thank you for an interesting and lively commentary. It really does make a difference to the usual yt train channels, which seem to drag in comparison
Well, Peterborough is definitely the one place to be for all sorts. An epic video Tornado922, fully enjoyable to watch.
If you are planning to ride a class 755, I will recommend tje carriage with the diesel engines in, they are absolute monster engines in them things :-)
There will be 10 brand new 10-coach LNER CAF Azuma trains joint the ranks soon.
Have you seen the new 810`s in purple EMR livery....stunning
nice Video
Wild request but could you do trains at Huncoat
yay back to Peterborough
Great video mate 😊
From personal experience i think the 755,s are good units to travel on. The driver of 700021 sounded whats known as the depot whistle.
Good video, but your audio/microphone seems muffled/unclear 😞👍🏽
