A VERY busy afternoon at Mortlake, White Hart Lane, and North Sheen Level Crossings, Greater London
Date filmed: Saturday the 2nd of November 2024
Videos filmed between 12:10pm and 2:19pm
Route: London Waterloo to Reading Line
- Between Barnes (BNS) Richmond (RMD) Stations
Crossing type(s): Manually Controlled Barrier crossing with CCTV (MCB-CCTV)
- All three are the same type.
Filming location(s):
1) B351 Sheen Lane, Mortlake (SW14 8LN)
2) White Hart Lane, Mortlake (SW13 0JL)
3) B353 Manor Road, North Sheen (TW9 1TF)

New Years Day 2025's viewing should be sorted nicely by this 28-minute-long compilation from the Mortlake area in West London on the London Waterloo to Reading Line, and from three of the four level crossings between Barnes and Richmond. On the day of filming, an England Rugby match was being played at Twickenham, which resulted in nastily-crowded trains out of London in the early afternoon, and to combat this as much as possible, a significant amount of extra trains were brought out to ferry the fans out to Twickenham. This meant that the line through here almost became busier than it would on a day where it would take South West Mainline diversions, and there was only one period of rest all afternoon which was longer than about 5 minutes or so. Indeed, there was very little opportunity to get the barriers up - Mortlake was lowered for at least eight or nine trains in a single lowering when we arrived! Throughout the entire video, you've a total of 33 trains passing by, amongst which are a seasonal track-cleaning train seen twice and a brand-new Class 701 'Arterio'. I hope you enjoy this video!
Unfortunately, as you can see in bits throughout, a handful of people made the silly choice of darting through the barriers rather than use the footbridge or wait; instances of particular note (both at Mortlake) include a motorcycle overtaking a misusing van (illegal in more than one way), and even a postwoman darting between the trailing barriers as they were lowered! A very quick and commendable reaction from the signaller meant they weren't trapped, but they thrusted their postal wagon through the barriers (thinking they would get trapped) causing it to nearly hit a waiting vehicle off camera. This was one of the worst misuses I'd filmed all year in 2024.

Great bunch of closures!
Lots of Brilliant Videos! How was it when it was busy at Mortlake?
That postman 😂 nice videos! That was a very consecutive closure at white heart lane aswell
43:16 naughty finger
Add the level crossing names as chapters where the level crossings are to make it 10x better
Thanks for the reminder. I was going to get onto that but got carried away
happy new year
yay
I did another video of this level crossing this time with 3 closures on the 31st of December 2024
Ignore my crappy spelling in the chat lol Great compialtion btw:)
It's alright. Thanks for joining :)
Nice compilation!
Sorry that I wasn't in the chat for this I was here but it was cause I seen someone who I didn't like so I didn't talk incase we would've had a argument on the premiere and I didn't want that so I just didn't say anything. Great Compilation though New year sure has flew in 👍
That's understandable. Good choice remaining quiet in that case. Happy new year!
Excellent compilation 👌
Nice!
A brilliant compilation! I can tell you that you have a very enjoyable year! And happy new year! and let's see where we end up next year!
Thanks for another great years worth of videography! Glad i was able to be a part of it, even if it is a minor segment!
Glad to have met you!
A Brilliant Compilation! I can tell you have had a very enjoyable year! Happy New Year! Let’s see where we end up next year!
Indeed! Bring on 2025!
Nice premier! Very enjoyable
Thanks for watching! 😁
Hi, was there Battle lc?
Yes, at the start
There wasn't. There's Battle Road, in Mountfield, but not the crossing on Marley Lane, in Battle
This comment is older than the video
how the hell
I premiered this and a few commented before that started
That barrier is literally falling apart!
Great video my friend
Grind. Bonk.
Excellent video and crossing 👍
Reminds me of numerous crossing of this level crossing to collect the caravan from the storage site, delayed a few time with the barriers refusing to work.
Those alarms sound nice! Great video!
Nice video at Huish level crossing in Somerset by the way
Brilliant Videos and Catches! I can see there is some new fencing installed so renewal can’t be far.
@NWLevelCrossings that was installed a little while ago, a bit before christmas
@ Yeah, I know.
God... nice video! Those barriers lol
These barriers sure have gotten tatty 😶
Exelllant chanal do u know jp level crossings chanal ❤❤❤???
Excellent video and crossing 👍
I thought it was level crossing.
That was the same month I came here. They have made room for a new REB with the fencing aswell. You may have already mentioned that in the description, which I haven't read.😂
I didn't cover that in this description.
Great videos
Brilliant Videos! Kinda surprised that they haven’t replaced the barriers yet. Nice to see you’ve filmed in this area again!
Nice videos at Puxton and Worle level crossing in Somerset and nice alarm sounds though
Nice! Did you go to huish aswell? I hope to go there soon
I sure did. Nice to revisit.
@@SouthEastLevelCrossings do the barriers still slam the floor? And is the shock absorber still missing?
They both do, and yes, both shock absorbers are missing as they were taken earlier this year after coming off the barriers.
@SouthEastLevelCrossings mhm yes by theo. NR only have to slow down the barriers a bit and the barriers likely would have lasted longer, and wouldn't have to keep coming back and repairing it
Nice
Woah all the crossings with NRS Barriers in my area (Pembrey and Burry Port and Kidwelly) have alarms! That’s very rare!
